Editing Clips from ITUNES

So i have a presentation in which I'd like to include video clips. I downloaded episodes of a TV show from ITUNES and downloaded Quicktime Pro. I was hoping to cut clips from the TV episodes and save them as a separate files so i have a few small files. I am able to cut the clips but then when i click on "save" or "save as" nothing happens. Is this happening because ITUNES files are "protected" (and what i want to do is impossible?) or am i just doing something wrong?
Many thanks to anyone that can answer

Purchased iTunes files are protected. I believe you can share them to a limited number of other computers but not copy/paste parts into other movies.
You may want to visit the iTunes for Windows groups to obtain more information about the sharing of such files:

I just want to edit songs from itunes into a soundtrack for a slideshow but GB won't let me save it as an archive so the end result is very tinny. Help!

to Itunes as a compressed file
Try to save to iTunes uncompressed - if you uncheck the "compress" option, the file will be exported in aiff-format, CD quality. The file size will be larger, but your slideshow will have a better soundtrack.

  • Taking clips from itunes movies and putting them into imovie

I'm doing a school project and making a movie trailer and i need to take clips from a movie on my itunes and put it onto imovie so i can take clips from the movie. HELP PLEASE!!!

How did the movie get into iTunes? Does it have digital rights copy protection? I guess you're not seeing the movie when you look in music in the iMovie media browser, is that right?

  • How do I transfer EDITED clips from one IMovie to another

I have tried to transfer edited clips (with original sound) from one IMovie to another. However, the system transfered the original clips instead of the edited clips.
Does anyone have any tips on how to transfer the edited clips only and not the original clips.
    osx 10.3.9 and Imovie 5.0.2

That will copy the original, imported material, not
the edited version. I.e. if I trim an imported clip,
the .mov file will still be the un-trimmed,
    full-length clip.
Not the movie Lennart means. The movie Lennart refers to — called the Timeline Movie.mov and located in the Cache folder inside the project — plays the edited Timeline of Project A. (It's a reference movie containing pointers to the audio and video files in the Media folder.) When that Timeline Movie is imported to Project B, it delivers all the edited video and audio of Project A as a single clip to Project B. (He's not referring to the video and audio files in the Media folder, which I think you mean.)
taronger, if all you want is a single clip, another way is to select the clip in the iMovie Timeline and export it to a Full Quality movie. Be sure to turn on the checkbox "Share selected clips only" in the export dialog window. Later, import that exported movie to another project.
I did some trials and found out that transfering edited clips (not original clips) can be done by selecting several consecutive clips in the original movie, and using the copy command. It is then possible to go to the new movie and use the paste command to transfer the edited clips.
Yes, that delivers the clips, but it doesn't deliver shortened clips. It delivers the entire source file of the clip. So if Clip 2 is 5 seconds long but its source file is 3 minutes long you get the entire 3 minute source file.
It's sometimes easiest to export the clips you want from Project A back to the camera, then re-import them to Project B. That accomplishes everything you want, delivering the edited material trimmed to the shortest length possible.
Note that the clips must stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the Timeline and the "Share selected clips only" checkbox must be checked. (Some versions of iMovie fail to stop the export to the camera at the end of the last clip. You may have to stop it manually.)

  • Is there a way to edit music from itunes to use in an iphoto slideshow

I would like to use a section of a song for a slideshow I am making, but only want to use part of the song. Is there a way to edit the song? If so, how do I do this?

    Christine:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Not with iTunes or iPhoto. You can edit a track in iTunes to play only a selected portion but that editing does not carry over to use in iPhoto.
You can use a 3rd party audio editor like Amadeus Pro to select the portion of the track you want to use and create a new file with it. Import the new file into iTunes and use in iPhoto. Some users have suggested using Garageband if you've installed it. It takes up too much disk space for me and I prefer using Amadeus Pro.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Error Message when trying to view/edit clips from Flip Cam

I am trying to edit some video from a flip cam on Final Cut Express 3.5.1 and it won't play. I've imported it both from an external HD and also the laptop itself and both times I get 2 error messages. First "General Error" then "Error: Out Of Memory"
I've already tried deleting my preferences but that didn't work.
    Please help

Having owned several flip cams, I can tell you that the raw video clip coming out of the camera itself is a .avi file.  If by chance someone had changed the extension of the raw video clip to mp4, or whatever that FCE (final cut express) likes, that will not change the fact that the clip is unusable without washing it through a conversion process.  Im all in agreement on free.

  • Can't import edited song from iTunes to iPhoto

    Hi,
I've created a slideshow in iPhoto and a playlist in iTunes to go with the slideshow. I shortened one of the songs in the playlist from 4.5 minutes to 1.5 minutes (file-get info-options). Within iTunes the song is shortened but when I import the playlist to iPhoto the song reverts back to its original length. I realise there is a workaround using iDVD (when I import the song into iDVD it stays at 1.5 minutes unlike iPhoto) but it means I have to redo the whole slideshow again which I'd prefer to avoid.
Has anyone any suggestions how to shorten a song for a slideshow within iPhoto?

I don't build slide shows, so not sure how hard it is to do in iDVD, but you can burn a song to CD and then rip it back into iTunes. Then you can edit the song in Garage Band. You might want to do this with a number of songs that you might use in one sitting, as it's pretty tedious.
One other thought: check if Amazon has the mp3 of the same song. The content there is not protected (I think the music producers cut that deal just to stick it to Apple) and is $0.99 per song like on iTunes. Might be worth another buck to avoid all this hassle. iTunes is easier to search and buy from (IMO) and has a better selection, but you might get lucky at Amazon. I've ended up buying the same song again at Amazon just for this reason.

  • Pasting edited clips from SD sequence to HD Sequence

I've been editing in SD NTSC DV 29.97 and now I'm switching to editing in Pro Res HQ 1080p 23.98. I want to cut and paste some edits from the SD sequences to new HD sequences (source footage is ProRes HQ 1080p converted from HDV on capture) the clips paste in ok and re-size to their native size but the volume on some of the clips goes to zero and the timing changes putting gaps between clips, is there anyway to fix this? I guess its the frame rate change? Its a massive pain to go through and correct it all manually.. Any ideas? thx

Yeah, it is the frame rate difference. FCP will not do the conversion well. Best to use Compressor to uprez this footage, and convert the frame rate.

  • Editing songs from iTUnes Music Store

Does anyone know why some MPEG4 protected AAC audio tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store are editable while others aren't?
Since they are in the same format they should behave in the same way, I should think.
    Thanks in advance.

The only protected iTMS purchases that I cannot edit part of the id3 tag is on the TV Shows. Other wise I can edit the tag as I chose. As to why one cannot edit the tag on certain parts I have not idea. I would imagiine that in some cases it is due to DRM.
Not much of an answer. What part of the tag can you not edit? What kind of file is it?

  • How do I copy editted clips from one project file to another?

I am working on a project. At one point, before I finished I "saved as" with another name to give me a backup. After working on it for a while I found that a section of the video had gotten out of place (a lot of clips and layers). I would like to copy this portion from the other project file I had saved. I can't figure it out. Both projects have the same clips in the project bins. I am using Premiere 6.5, with a Pinnacle DV500 DVD capture card. My computer is a duel P3 800, 512RAM, 40Gig Sys. drive and 480 Gig RAID 0. Please Help!

Throw away everything you don't want to copy, save as a new project, import the new project into the other one.

  • Why can't I drag and drop my own songs and clips from itunes into logic express?

I have been on the road for 8 months and now I can't use my own stuff in logic express?
    <Edited by Host>

    Hello Rocksinger99,
Before we go into the why you are not able to copy your iTunes content to an external hard drive, what is the purpose of copying the content there? The reason I ask is because there are different scenarios that may be done differently. So if you just want to move the media off your internal hard drive, then look at the first article to walk you through how to just move the media folder by using iTunes to start the transfer. If you are copying the media to move it to another computer, then check the format of the external hard drive and make sure that it is formatted for Mac. Take a look at the last two for information on finding out the format as well as steps to get it formatted for Mac. Let me know what you find out.

  • Is there a way to "liberate" an edited clip from a multiclip?

As in, to get just that clip, no longer contained in the multiclip.
I ask because it is really convenient and organized to pick takes using a multiclip, but then that convenience starts to break down once you need to say, go into after effects. all the clips import, even if you really only need the one. It can get messy fast. If there is a way to free the clip form the multiclip, that would be great.
Feature request? Or does this already exist?

Of course I do, but re-opening that clip and re-editing it to the specified I/O points is not the kind of solution I'm talking about. way too round about.

  • HELP! Creating MP3 Audio Clip from iTunes to publish in iWeb

I had successfully been able to publish in iWeb MP3 audio clips. Two of 4 MP3 audio clips that I had published and uploaded to the internet and were successfully mounted on the website for a year, suddenly would not function on the internet [I checked it out on both Safari and IE browsers — not a browser issue].
I proceeded to troubleshoot the issue in iWeb to pursue the following considerations:
Was the website requiring more webspace because I tried the MP3 clip on another website I have constructed that is far below its capacity. Same results. The clip would not publish in iWeb.
I reloaded the original song in iTunes, followed the instructions "How to convert a song to a different file format".

    Hello, again, Old Toad,
Here is the webpage weblink that has the MP3 audio clip:
    http://users.xplornet.com/~gayda/Dance_in_Liturgy.html
BUT! AND, IT'S A HUGE BUT! In the iWeb publishing screen, the MP3 player has a '?' under the image.
However, upon uploading the site, the MP3 player is functioning! And, plays perfectly well. Go figure?
I cannot discern how or why this occurred after many attempts prior to my contacting you, the player in iWeb publishing mode was in a 'non-function' state. However, in desperation to have the player functional, I gave it another go round, and VOILA!, it uploaded successfully. It's a mystery to me.
What I am going attempt to do for the other website that originally had the two players, is upload it even though iWeb shows they are not published and see what happens.
It may be a website issue after all rather than the 'MP3 player'. That being the case, I will contact the ISP Domain Host and arrange for more space for this particular site.
The website that successfully uploaded the player is very small. The other one is a huge. It may be a case scenario that the latter is on overload.
Back to you later to see what happens next and verify the status quo for the original site the players were loaded.

  • Import Music Video Clips from iTunes

Doing some creative intro videos using iTunes 6.0.3 music videos. Want to import to iMovie 4.0.1. do some editing & then use it back in iTunes as a music video. But iMovie won't recognize it. Stuck. How do I do it???

    Nail on the head Sue.
I thought the users profile was out of date. Maybe not and they are using QT 6 which doesn't support the new H.264 video codec.
iMovie wouldn't import the file either without QT 7 being installed.
