Editing imported CSV contact information?

Hello, I have been searching everywhere and cannot find an answer, my guess is that Skype isn't smart enough to do this but figured I would ask...
I am able to edit contacts that were added from Facebook and those that I have found through Skype, that is not my issue. My issue is that I have imported my contacts as a CSV file from my address book and those contacts, I cannot edit. When I right click on a name of a facebook contact it give me the option to View Profile and then Add Phone Number. If I right click a CSV added contact I can View Profile but CANNOT ADD PHONE NUMBER.
I am using the latest version 7.4.0.102, just checked the update. Any suggestions? All I want to do is edit/add  numbers to contacts. It would also be nice to delete some of the contacts as well (I can delete those that are facebook contacts)...

I have tried that, however, as it is not a song that I downloaded with iTunes (I had it in my music folder on my C: drive), the area is blocked out in grey so does not allow me to edit the information.
Any other ideas I could try?

Which CSV format did you export them in?  Google, Outlook or vCard?
Which of those 3 formats does Backup Assistant support? Not sure that is really relevant as a file is a file and presumably you save the file after exporting
Can you open the exported file?  double clicking it should automatically open it in Excel.
What errore message do you get from Backup Assistant?

  • Mav Contacts does not import csv file

Trying to import my Outlook exchange contacts to Mavericks Contacts.  Exported from outlook to excel. Saved excel file to csv format.  Tried to import csv file to Mavericks Contacts:  Error message says the csv file is not compatible.  Also imported the csv file to Numbers and saved again as another csv file.  Same error message.  Suggestions?

The following was copied from the Contacts Help.
Import contact information saved or exported from other apps. The files can be in LDAP Interchange Format (LDIF) or text format (tab-delimited or comma-separated value (CSV)).
If you’re importing a tab-delimited or CSV file, make sure it’s formatted correctly using a text editor such as TextEdit.
Remove any line breaks within a contact’s information.
Make sure that fields in a tab-delimited file are separated by a tab, instead of by another character. Don’t include spaces before or after tabs.
Make sure that fields in a CSV file are separated by a comma, instead of by another character. Don’t include spaces before or after commas.
Make sure all addresses have the same number of fields. Add empty fields as needed.
In Contacts, choose File > Import, select the file, change the encoding if necessary, then click Open.
If you’re importing a text file, review the field labels.
If the first card contains headers, make sure the headers are correctly labeled or marked “Do not import.” Any changes you make to this card are made to all cards in the file. To not import the headers card, select “Ignore first card.”
To change a label, click the arrows next to the label and choose a new label. If you don’t want to import a field, choose “Do not import.”

  • Import Contact Information

I am trying to import my contacts from either my MSN email account, or my Outlook contacts.
When I try to import from my MSN account, I get the following message:
Authentication Failure...Invalid username or password. Please try again.
I have tried this several times, always with the same result.
I also tried creating a CSV file in Outlook and importing it. When I do this, I simply get a message that the import failed.
My preference is to use the MSN contacts - is there any reason why this is not working?

Thanks for verifying that performing the import is possible from within the app itself - any recommendations as to how to complete the process i.e..sample code or other successful implementations that you can refer me to for support or additional information.

My iphone 4s is importing contact information from FB and my e-mail account.  When I try to look at my contact list it is showing everyone I have on those lists and it only shows their email addresses.  The phone numbers for my contacts have disappeared and I don't know how to get them back.

Hi macmac57. I don't memorize my numbers anymore, so I know how important it is to have all your contacts on your phone at all times. Did an update occur or a new application download when your contacts disappeared? Have you been backing up your device with your computer? You can try to restore your contacts from your last backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Are you syncing your iPhone between multiple computers? This can sometimes create issues with your contacts. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1474

  • Import CSV, Edit Data, Export CSV

    Hello,
I am a powershell novice and have been given a task to complete. I need to scan through AD, find all of the servers that are supposed to be active, "ping" them and, if active, get their IP address and verify that a number of services are running.
Once all of the data is collected, I need to write all of this out to a .CSV file. So far, what I have is this:
Using Import-Module ActiveDirectory, I am able to get the full list of servers with appropriate information and export that to a CSV
I import the CSV file above back in and create new headers (columns) for more information
The full list of servers are pinged individually. If pingable, I get the IP address and service information needed
Where I am stuck is writing all of this back out to a .CSV file. Right now, I am just writing the information back out to the screen for verification. I'm sure it's something small, but being a novice I'm not sure where to go. Any help?

Here is the full code. The Write-Host statements are just for me during the testing to see if the information is correct. The last statement was what I tried to write the information out, but it came up empty and I really haven't found a way to get it to

  • Address Book -- Importing CSV File created by Numbers

I'm trying to import a csv file generated from MS outlook into address book. When I attempt to import the csv file that Outlook created, Address Book is able to recognize the file. However, I need to modify the file before importing. To do that, I opened in Numbers, deleted some columns and renamed some columns. Then, I exported from Numbers as a .CSV file. However, when I try to import the .CSV file created by numbers, I get the error that I have modified with Numbers, I get the error "Text file import failure".
Does anybody know why address book can't import a CSV file created by Numbers?

Many people have run into this problem, including myself. I had worked many hours on a spreadsheet in Numbers, exported to CSV, and received the error message when trying to import into Address Book. The answers to this dilemma are out there, but tidbits of the whole answer are spread around discussion boards. So I hope to consolidate those answers here.
The main problem for me -- and it's reasonable to assume that others receive the "Text File import error" for the same reason -- is that 1) I had commas in my spreadsheet, and 2) I had hidden RETURNs in the spreadsheet. Once I got rid of those two things, I had no problem importing into Address Book.
    Deleting Commas>
The problem with commas in your spreadsheet is that the CSV format uses commas to distinguish when a new cell is formed. So having other commas will inevitably confuse Address Book during the attempted import. I didn't have too many commas in my spreadsheet, so I was able to quickly remove them. Yet, if you have dozens or hundreds of cells with commas in them, you'll need an easier solution. I imagine opening Number's Inspector>Cell Inspector>Format will have the solution of removing commas from, say, currency amounts or something else. Yet, how many commas arise in contact information? Perhaps the easiest way is to use the same method of removing those hidden RETURNs. Read on...
    Deleting Hidden RETURNs>
You can't see them, and I couldn't find a "show invisibles" option in Numbers. So you need to search and find them. Yet, how do you search for something hidden? Do the Command-F thing to bring up the search field. The search bar should automatically be ready to search what you type. Hitting the Return key will do nothing for you, but hitting Shift-Option-Return will (you'll likely need to hit Return again to actually perform the search). Numbers will point out how many times these hidden returns are in your spreadsheet, which cells contain them, and give you the option to automatically replace them with something else (a space is a safe option). You can do the same search and replace with commas too.
Save your spreadsheet, export it as CSV, and -- as long as the only errors stemmed from commas and hidden RETURNs -- you shouldn't have a problem having Address Book import it. Good luck!
PS- After importing my spreadsheet, I noticed that some of my Smart Groups in Address Book were not showing some people who should have automatically been in there. The problem was that the Smart Group search had straight apostrophes in it, but the imported contact had curved apostrophes. The computer saw these as two unrelated characters. After some copying and pasting, the problem was solved.

  • Having problems importing .pst contacts into TB

I have outlook 2013 and I'm moving to TB. I have successfully imported the .pst email message to TB. However, I have not been able to import the contacts folder/file.
    Suggestions?

    Make Outlook default email client.
    In Thunderbird
    * Tools > Import
    * select 'Address books' click on next
    * select 'Outlook' click on next
    * you may need to map the columns.
    If this is not working:
Use Outlook to export the contacts as a comma separated .csv file.
    Then import the .csv file.
    In Thunderbird
    * Tools > Import
    * select 'Address books' click on next
    * select 'Text file(LDIF, .tab, .csv, .txt)' and click on Next.
    * you may need to map the columns.
AS an aid the link below tells you what column headers are used, so you can save the .csv file and edit using eg: Excel.
This is not absolutely necesary, but can make importing a bit easier if you have the same column headers with correct info.

  • Unable to create or edit AD (mail) contacts in address book

    Hi!
I recently imported quite a list of contacts from an old CRM application into Exchange. All entries are nicely created in domain.local\company\location\Contacts. All fields are visible in Outlook under All Address Lists\All Contacts.
As we have a small company, just a few users, I want to give most of them the rights to create and update entries in the All Contacts folder, just as they were used to in the old app.
I started by creating role groups following this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2013/08/07/creating-rbac-role-to-delegate-contact-management.aspx
I created an Admin Role group named Contact Administration, which contains the required Members, and I assigned two role groups to this group: Contact_Management, which is based on the Mail Recipient Creation parent group, and Contact_Management_2,
which is based on the Mail Recipient parent group. The Write Scope is: domain.local\company\location\Contacts.
Because this didn't result in anyone being able to update the contacts, I also created a group in Active Directory and delegated control on the contacts OU to this group, even though I think this doesn't add to the desired result (as it indeed didn't).
What am I missing here? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to create or edit a mail contact in address book, please follow these steps: -
Use the Shell to create a contact
This example creates mail contact for Debra Garcia in Exchange Server 2013
New-MailContact -Name "Debra Garcia" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected] -OrganizationalUnit Users
This example creates a mail contact for Alan Shen in Exchange online.
New-MailContact -Name "Alan Shen" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected]
    3.     This example mail-enables an existing contact named Karen Toh in Exchange Server 2013.
Enable-MailContact -Identity "Karen Toh" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected]
    To add a contact: -
You can use the EAC to change selected properties for multiple mail contacts. When you select two or more mail contacts from the contacts lit in the EAC, the properties that can be bulk edited are displayed in the Details pane. When you change one of these properties, the change applies to all selected recipients.
When you bulk edit mail contacts, you can change the following properties areas: -
    ·        Contact Information: - Change shared properties such as street, postal code, and city name.
    ·        Organization: - Change shared properties such as department name, company name, and the manager that the selected mail contact or mail users report to.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards
    Shweta@G

  • Can I clone contact information to speed up the entry of new contacts?

I go to meetings and get business cards from 8 people at the same company. Once I put one contact in, much of the contact information is the same. Is there a way to clone a contact so that I just have to edit the name, phone, and email address so I don't have to type it all in again?

Drag an existing contact from the contact list of your address book to the desktop.
Drag the resulting .vcf file back into the contact list.
    Choose to review duplicate.
    Choose to keep both.
    Choose to import.
    Edit the new contact.

If you exported all your contacts to a single csv file, you should be able to import the file in a single step, although you may have to edit the csv file before doing so:

  • Excel issues with importing CSV or HTML table data from URL - Sharepoint? Office365?

    Greetings,
We have a client who is having issues importing CSV or HTML table data as one would do using Excel's Web Query import from a reporting application.  As the error message provided by Excel is unhelpful I'm reaching out to anyone who can help us begin to
troubleshoot problems affecting what is normal standard Excel functionality.  I'd attach the error screenshot, but I can't because my account is not verified....needless to say it says "Microsoft Excel cannot access  the file https://www.avantalytics.com/reporting_handler?func=wquery&format=csv&logid=XXXX&key=MD5
Where XXXX is a number and MD5 is an md5 code.  The symptoms stated in the error message are:
    - the file name or path does not exist
-The file is being used by another program
-The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
None of these symptoms are the case, naturally. The user encountered this with Excel2010, she was then upgraded to Excel2013 and is still experiencing the same issue. The output of this URL in a browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox) is CSV data for the affected
user, so it is not a network connectivity issue.  In our testing environment using both Excel2010 or 2013 this file is imported successfully, so we cannot replicate.  The main difference I can determine between our test environment and the end-user
is they have a Sharepoint installation and appear to have Office365 as well.
So,  my question might more appropriately be for Sharepoint or Office365 folks, but I can't be sure they're  a culprit.  Given this - does anyone have any knowledge of issues which might cause this with Sharepoint or Office365 integrated with
Excel and/or have suggestions for getting more information from Excel or Windows other than this error message?  I've added the domain name as a trusted publisher in IE as I thought that might be the issue, but that hasn't solved anything.  As you
can see its already https and there is no authentication or login - the md5 key is the authentication.  The certificate for the application endpoint is valid and registered via GoDaddy CA.
I'm at a loss and would love some suggestions on things to check/try.
    Thanks  -Ross

    Hi Ross,
    >> In our testing environment using both Excel 2010 and 2013 this file is imported successfully, so we cannot replicate.
I suspect it is caused by the difference of web server security settings.
KB: Error message when you use Web query to a secure Web page (HTTPS://) in Excel: "Unable to open"
    Hope it will help.

Moto is ducking the issue and misguiding you, not surprising now that Moto is owned by Google. Apple cannot help you with Motorola's own app.
Moto's information says only that "MOTOTALK automatically imports your contacts to the app" but I can't find anything that says where these contacts will be obtained. If it's not picking up the contacts from your iPhone's Contacts, then I can't guess what they mean. I doubt very much that you'll be able to load contacts from a Mac, but I can't say with certainty.
