Editing in iPhoto going wrong

when i edit picture in iphoto they start being distorted or go completely black. i have tried the plist file, rebuilding from command option boot, and creating a whole new library and i am still having the same problem.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How did you get the files for uploading to Costco? The correct process is to first crop the photos to the desired size ratio. Next export them to a folder on the Desktop via File->Export->File Export with the following criteria:
Type = jpeg
JPEG Quality= Maximum
File Size = Full Size
Now upload those files to Costco.
Happy New Year

  • Upgrading to iPhoto '08 - what's going wrong with my iphoto Library

    Hi,
I would appreciate your advice/knowledge on this problem.
==> Short Description of my problem:
I can't recover the keywords associated with my pictures. I am asked to import my pictures although I choose to open my previous iPhoto Library after converting to iPhoto 08.
    ==> What I did:
    1. I recently upgraded my mac to Leopard, and then to iPhoto'08. When opening for the 1st time iPhoto '08, I selected my iPhoto Library (as I held the option key while opening iPhoto).
    2. I then get the message: “The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.” I clicked on the "Upgrade" button
    3. My Mac then loaded/created ALL my previous albums and smart albums (including the most recent ones). It loaded pictures up to April 2005. BUT then, it prompted me with the following message : "5584 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that are not a part of this photo library. Would you like to import them?". I was surprised to get this message, as I read that the upgrade should run smoothly.
    4. I made two tests, following this prompt. First, I answered "YES". I ended with a 24.5 GB iPhoto Library (instead of my previous 12.64 GB library). Then, while repeating steps 2&3, I answered No. I then decided to import manually my missing pictures, and ended up with a 14,4 GB (surprisingly, I got events called originals that contained same pictures than other created events). I have repeated the steps 2 to 4 from a new user account, but got the same results.
    5. None of these solutions are satisfactory as I had assigned keywords to my 5000+ photo. What is going wrong? Here is the content of my iPhoto Library (before conversion), if this is of any help:
In my iPhoto Library Oct 23, 2007:
    folder 2000 Oct 18, 2007
    folder 2004 Feb 13, 2005
    folder 2005 Jan 29, 2006
    folder 2006 Jan 7, 2007
    folder 2007 Oct 23, 2007
    AlbumData.xml Apr 17, 2005
    folder Album Nov 11, 2007
    Dir.data Apr 9, 2005
iPod Photo cache Nov 11, 2006
    iPhoto.db Apr 17, 2005
    Library.iPhoto Apr 9, 2005
    Thumb32.data Apr 9, 2005
    Thumb64.data Apr 9, 2005
    ThumbJPG Apr 9, 2005
This library is an external-drive backup copy of my HD photo library (that no longer exists).
    ==> What to do next?
    1. How to check if my keywords information is still present in my original iPhoto library? Is there any solution to get back my photo with their keywords?
    2. Manage my iPhoto library with a smaller quantity of pictures, to ease backup and conversion. I have understood that iPhoto Libray Manager is a convenient free software to merge/de-merge libraries. Is that correct?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nicolas

This sounds to me like your v5 library is corrupted.
Try using the rebuild command from iPhoto Library Manager to recreate the library - it won't get everything, but should get albums and keywords. Read the iPhoto Library Manager Help for more details.

  • When i double click a photo in iphoto to edit, the screen goes black

when i double click a photo in iphoto to edit, the screen goes black.  I'm using 10.7.5 with iPhoto 9.4.2.  Can anyone help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Out-of-place upgrade going wrong

Trying to work through an upgrade from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3 on a dev box, prefereably without major downtime, 64-bit Linux. Since I cannot shutdown existing listeners or database, the approach is perhaps a bit non-standard
    <li>I've got the 11.2.0.3 software unzipped</li>
    <li>I've created directories for a new ORACLE_BASE</li>
    <li>I've exported ORACLE_BASE=/new/directory/structure</li>
<li>I've then launched database/runInstaller from the unzipped location and performed a painless software-only installation</li>
I'm now slightly confused about the next bit, bearing in mind I'm trying to do this without any downtime on the existing 11.2.0.1 database.
What I'd like to do is to get a copy of the existing database opened and running from the 11.2.0.3 home, whilst the existing 11.2.0.1 db continues on as it is.
    <li>So I've set a new ORACLE_SID</li>
<li>I've copied across the orapw and init.ora from the old O_H to the new, renaming them appropriately</li>
<li>I've edited the init.ora so that path-specific parameters all now take the new O_H directory structure</li>
<li>I've then put the entire existing database into hot backup mode and copied it to the new O_H structure</li>
Because so little is being done on the original database I appear to have got away with copying online redo logs, because I was able to startup mount; issue lots of 'alter database rename file...' commands so the new file locations are picked up; recover database; alter database open upgrade.
What I am now struggling with is how to actually upgrade the freshly-opened new database. If I run dbua, it says 'database isn't mounted', whether the new db copy is in mount or open upgrade mode. If I run @catupgrd.sql, it seems to complete without a problem, leaving STATUS of V$INSTANCE at OPEN MIGRATE. But when I run the @utlu112s.sql command, I get this:

(I am following http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/upgrade.htm#i1011372 and have checked Upgrade from 10203 to 10204 among others)

I think that (partially, as it turns out) de-installing unlicensed components on the original database may have caused this problem.
I tried doing a data pump export of the original database, and it failed with an error I tracked down in Metalink (I'm sorry, I didn't record the specifics). Turned out there were four tables left behind from OWB and a broken package related to Spatial. I dropped those, and the export worked.
But instead of using that export, I tried my hot copy technique again.. and this time it worked.
So I guess the moral of the story is to ensure your source database is 100% functional before you try messing around with any of this stuff.
Edited by: Catfive Lander on Jan 24, 2013 10:01 PM
Have remembered one of the specifics: Metalink 1328829.1 (OLAP removal leaves behind DBMS_CUBE_EXP in an invalid state). There was one other similar issue, but I still don't remember the details on that.

  • Edit in iPhoto when in photobook mode when have external editor

I have not figured out a way to edit in iPhoto when in photobook mode. No matter what, it jumps me to the external editor. Sometimes I just want to crop my photo into a portrait orientation from landscape or vice versa so the photobook treats it that way for layout purposes. Especially with the copying issue going on now with an external editor, this is becoming annoying. It takes a little while for my external editor to load the photo anyways.... and all that malarky for cropping it?
    Please help!!!
Maybe I could turn off external editor for my default, but would that mean I wouldn't be given the option to edit in an external editor????

I did try that and that seems to work.... but still it seems that in photobook mode, you are limited to only one editor.... whatever you have made as your default editor in your preferences. So, I suppose each time you want to do an edit in the external editor (if set up like as discussed above), you need to go into your preferences and switch it around, then back again once the edit is done.

  • Major Quality loss when editing in Iphoto 09

    Hi,
I am a new user to Imac and Iphoto and I saw that when I edit an Image in Iphoto, I loose a lot of my original data.
I have found that I can return to the original picture, but I wish to edit (especially using the CROP function) then print the Image on 20x30 cm size and therefore I need all the quality I can get.
When I Crop either JPEG or .RAW formatted images (for example 10 MBytes in size) even if I select the COMPLETE image, I am left with only 4 or 5 Mbytes of data.
It gets much worse when I really Crop a part of the picture.
A 12 Mega pixel photo should supply sufficient data to cover a complete wall, but for some reason a lot of quality is lost when I use any of the editing features.
Am I doing something wrong ?
Should I change any of the settings ?
    Thanks for your advice

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
the only difference is that Iphoto took my quality !!
Are you basing the "quality" loss on visual appearance of the photo or on the resulting size of the jpeg file? If it's the latter that is really not an accurate method. True, some information is lost with a jpeg edit and save (only the first edit in iPhoto results in additional jpeg compression) but, in my experience, you would have to print a VERY large print before seeing any noticeable image degradation. I've compressed jpegs as high as 60%, i.e. a quality setting of 40, and for most all uses up to 5x7 prints haven't seen noticeable image degradation. However, I realize image quality is subjective and open to individual interpretation.
So unless you are visibly seeing image degradation I wouldn't worry about the file size reduction, especially in iPhoto as it's compressed only once no matter how many edits are made and saved. Apple uses a compression algorithm that gives the best image quality for the amount of compression it uses.
The following is from the Usernet FAQ site article "JPEG image compression FAQ, part 1/2':
Subject: [4] How well does JPEG compress images?
Very well indeed, when working with its intended type of image (photographs and suchlike). For full-color images, the uncompressed data is normally 24 bits/pixel. The best known lossless compression methods can compress such data about 2:1 on average. JPEG can typically achieve 10:1 to 20:1 compression without visible loss, bringing the effective storage requirement down to 1 to 2 bits/pixel. 30:1 to 50:1 compression is possible with small to moderate defects, while for very-low-quality purposes such as previews or archive indexes, 100:1 compression is quite feasible. An image compressed 100:1 with JPEG takes up the same space as a full-color one-tenth-scale thumbnail image, yet it retains much more detail than such a thumbnail.

  • How do I know whatu0092s going wrong in XI

I’m developing a XI DEMO which extracts information from a DB using JDBC and sends it to a system using a File Adapter. I have finished with the configuration in the SLD, IR and ID; but nothing if happening: No messages on the ABAP Pipeline and neither in the RWB, JPR in green but there is a red message in the Adapter Engine with text “Is a user defined for component AF?”.
How am I supposed to start checking what’s going wrong?

Check the apps on your iPad that you are syncing with your iCloud account.  For example, if you are syncing contacts with iCloud, open Contacts on your iPad to see what contacts are in your iCloud account.  Similarly, the data for calendars, reminders, Safari bookmarks, iWork documents and notes could all be in your iCloud account if you are syncing with iCloud.  In addition to that, if you are backing up to iCloud, your backup is in your iCloud account.  If you enabled photo stream, your photo stream photos for the last 30 days are in your account (although they don't count against your storage).  Finally, if you enabled Mail, your iCloud email is in your iCloud account.
You can also view some of this data by going to icloud.com on your computer and signing into your iCloud account.

  • Trouble with ADS configuration: What is going wrong?

    Hi Experts,
I need some help in configuring the ADS Call on Solution Manager 7.0 (First question: is ADS runable on Solution Manager - maybe that's the error...?). I only need printforms, no interactive forms.
Java and Abap is running on one machine.
This are the notes I've checked:
    944221
    894009
    1016404
    915399
    That's what I configured:
    1. There were no adsuser and ads_agent, so I created them, adsuser as system user, ads_agent as service user, both with the same pw. For ads_agent I assigned the roles SAP_BC_FP_ICF and SAP_BC_FPADS_ICF, for ads_agent the role ADSCALLERS. I had to create the role ADSCALLERS before.
    2. Assigning JAVA Security Roles: Visual Administrator - Cluster - Server - Services - Security Provider - User Management. There I have checked whether the user adsuser is assigned to the group ADSCALLERS and is unlocked. In Policy Configuration (still in Visual Admin) I checked component "com.adobe/AdobeDocumentServices*AdobeDocumentServicesAssembly.jar" and mapped user adsuser and ads_agent to the Security Role ADSCallers.
    3. RFC Connection: HTTP Connection to external Server (was available), Connection Type G, Target: our server, Servicenr 50400 (System Nr is 04), präfix is "/AdobeDocumentServices/Config?style=rpc", user is "ADSUSER", pw the same like in user master data.
Testing the RFC Connection was successfull.
    4. Checking the services (SICF): fp and fpads are active.
    5. Visual Administrator: Creation of the connection from JAVA to ABAP: Visual Administrator - Cluster - Server - Destinations - HTTP. I created a new destination with name FP_ICF_DATA_/sap/bc/fp/form/layout/fp_test_00.xdp with username ADSUser and pw is working fine.
I hope you guys can help. I'm working on this issue now for some days, without any improvement.
What is going wrong and what did I forget to configure?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tan
EDIT: In Visual Administrator the users ADSUSER, ADS_AGENT and SAP* are locked automatically after some time...
Edited by: Tan Yildiz on May 10, 2011 10:51 AM

    Hi again,
maybe you guys can help now.
    Point 6 is fixed partially:
    6. Execution of FP_TEST_00, FP_PDF_TEST_00, FP_CHECK_DESTINATION_SERVICE there comes a popup to enter the username and pw, without any ettect. After I entered the data 3 times the popup is closed and there comes the error
After executing the reports the popup is not prompting any more. There comes the error immediately:
    ERROR CODE : 100.101
ERROR MESSAGE : SOAP Runtime Exception: CSoapExceptionTransport : HTTP send returned with status code
Fehler SOAP Framework: SOAP Runtime Exception: CSoapExceptionTransport : HTTP send returned with status code(100.101).
I figured out the the error lies within the RFC Destination, but I have no idea where.....
The target device is our server name (no http:...stuff, just the name "hanna") the service nr is 50400 (04 is the system nr) and path prefix is "/AdobeDocumentServices/Config?style=rpc"
So long everythings seems to be ok for me.
But by testing the destination there is nothing happening.....no reaction, no error, no warning, no success message.....other RFC connections are working.
If I change the service nr to 50000 (there is another system where ads is working) the test result is a success message......
Any idea whats going wrong? Thanks in advance

I am trying to change the email address on the iPod so a family member can use it but when I do it says it doesn't recognize the email address. Where am I going wrong ? I just want them to be able to iMessage and email without having to use my email address.

The procedure is Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>Add another email address. The email address has to be a valid working email address, obviously. Apple should verify the email address and you have to go to the inbox of that email account, read the verification email from Apple and follow the inductions in the email in order to complete the verification. Then you go back to the settings, uncheck your email address and check the new email address to be used as the contact email address.

The usual cause of that issue is a corrupted or missing font that Firefox replaces by another, in this case a bold, font.
As a test you can try to disable the default font and choose a few different fonts (Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, Times New Roman) to see if you can identify the culprit.<br />
you will have to reinstall that corrupted font.

  • Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • How to edit external iPhoto Library pictures with an external editor?

    That's my question.
I have my iPhoto Library on an external HD and I want to modify my pics with PSE 11. I've set my iPhoto prefs to do this but it just doesn't work. When I click on "edit with an externale editor" PSE 11 opens but doesn't show the picture, why is that?

The file  you want to select is in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 10/Suport Files folder:
It should be the same for the earlier version of PSE as I recall.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
