Editing large amounts of object properties

So I'll start with the issue. I have about 3000 buttons in my project and need each one to link to another object (caption for the button) right above it so it shows it on mouse over and hides it on mouse off.
Going through each individual dot is taking quite some time and driving me crazy. I wanted to see if anyone knew of a better way.
Ideally I would love if there was some excel-type solution. Is there such a thing as a quickly editable spreadsheet with each object? I have all the buttons and objects named correctly to their corresponding captions. Is there a way to get beneath the file and just type in which object to hide and unhide?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like you need a custom InDesign script!

  • How to include a large amount of objects in a package interface

    Hi guys,
    I would like to include a large amount of objects (programs, classes, etc.) in a package interface in the package builder (SE21).
    I would like to avoid inserting them one by one. Is anyone have a solution? It is not possible to use such characters has " * ". There is no documentation or help provided for this issue.
    Thank you in advance for your answers.
    Best regards,
    Sylvain

    Hello,
    I do not wish to change the package assignment of all my objects.
    I created a new package in which I created an interface to include various objects from others packages (standard and customer specific). I want to make these objects visible into my new package.
    Since I have a high quantity of objects to include in my interface, I would have like to know if there was a simple way to do this task rather than entering the name one by one in SE21.
    I hope the context is clearer now.
    Best regards,

  • How can I edit large amount of data using Acrobat X Pro

    Hello all,
    I need to edit a catalog that contains large amount of data - mainly the product price. Currently I can only export the document into excel file and then paste the new price onto the catalog using Acrobat X Pro one by one, which is extremely time-consuming. I am sure there's a better way to make this faster while keeping the accuracy of the data. Thanks a lot in advance if any one's able to help!

    Hi Chauhan,
    Yes I am able to edit text/image via tool box, but the thing is the catalog contains more than 20,000 price data and all I can do is deleteing the orginal price info from catalog and replace it with the revised data from excel. Repeating this process over 20,000 times would be a waste of time and manpower... Not sure if I make my situation clear enough? Pls just ask away, I really hope to sort it out, Thanks!

  • Editing large amounts of data

    Hi -
    I am helping to design a new application at my company. We're currently using JBoss 5 & JSF 1.2 and we happen to be using Richfaces 3.3.2. The application is to implement a web based solution to replace a very large spreadsheet that my users have been using to manage their work. The spreadsheet has a large number of columns, about 90. For better or worse, they have gotten used to working with their data in Excel, they love Excel and are all really good using it.
    I am trying to provide them with an efficient interface that allows them to quickly navigate through their data and view and update multiple rows & columns on one screen. I have too many columns to display on one screen. I can try to group them into tabs and create a series of editable datatables, but I think this seems like a klunky interface; they would need to navigate from page to page and from tab to tab - I think this will drive them crazy. I can also export their data to Excel, let them manipulate the data in Excel and import it back in. They would be able to quickly update their data, but this seems like a bit of a hack and a possible validation nightmare when I read the data back in.
    I've seen some ajax based spreadsheet type jsf components, but I don't have any experience with them.
    Has anyone had a similar situation with their JSF app? What was your approach? I'm basically trying to provide them with a JSF solution that's as close to Excel as possible. This may be impractical, I'm not sure.
    Any thoughts or feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Speaking out of experience: trying to move users that are used to one very specific system to a web interface is a big risk and possibly a dead end.
    I had the same problem when I had to create a replacement application for an old system built for Dos; the replacement was a web application with web forms and whatever - all very simple and it functioned. The end-users couldn't work with it however because they were used to moving between fields with the cursor keys and such; using the mouse and the tab key was too confusing (it didn't help that all these people were seniors...). I could get close with some insane javascript hacking, but the entire project was basically a big cash drain because the user interface was exactly the opposite of what the users were used to.
    Now my story takes place before Ajax was even known, so perhaps with some Ajax magic and prebuilt rich components you could hack something together that works for the users. But I see only one way to get there: mock ups. Don't start creating the full system until you have something mocked up that the users feel they can comfortably work with.
    I know I didn't answer your question directly because you still don't know WHAT to put in your first mock up, but I hope my previous experiences can guard you from some future troubles.

  • Can't edit object properties (Acrobat X, Acrobat 8.x)

    I'm trying to tag a PDF for accessibility. I would like to be able to tag the images in the document as 'background'.
    Unfortunately, I'm not able to edit any of the object properties for images.
    Here's what I do:
    Expose the Content tools.
    Click Edit Object.
    Click to select an image.
    Right-click and select Properties.
    At this point, a multi-tab dialog pops up, in which all fields are disabled.
    I thought to work around the problem by going back to Acrobat 8.x, but I'm seeing the same behavior there.
    What step am I missing, here?

    These are the steps I've been told to use to edit the tags on an image:
    Open the Content section in Tools.
    Click 'Edit Object'.
    Click image to select it.
    Right-click image and select 'Properties'.
    Change to Tags tab.
    Set tag to 'Artifact.'
    These steps are impossible to complete, because all fields in the Properties (a.k.a. "TouchUp properties" [sic]) dialog are disabled.
    If in fact this has "nothing to do with tagging an image", then I shouldn't even be able to access the dialog, much less be able to access it and discover that all settings it exposes are disabled.
    In fact, every means that I've found so far that gives me access to the "TouchUp proerties" dialog for an image or a path, gives it to me with all fields except color disabled. (Please note: this is not just paths, it's also images. Even if it were just paths, that would be a serious problem, since any brochure or magazine layout is liable to contain a huge number of paths that need to be tagged as background images.)
    The ONLY ways so far that I've found that it's possible to edit the tags on an image are:
    Use 'Find...' as described above to bring the image/path/etc. into the reading order, and then use the TouchUp Reading Order dialog or right-click in the Reading Order pane to set it as background. This is inexact and time-consuming, especially for things like graphic-intensive brochures or magazine layouts.
    Use a marquee-selection in the TouchUp Reading Order tool to select objects and set them as background. This is inadequate because in many of the cases that I deal with, you'll still be left with a lot of objects you can't select in this manner. (Try using this method to select an image that has the same vertical or horizontal dimension as the page it resides on, for example.)
    If you are aware of another way, I wisth you'd tell me what it is.
    It sounds to me like you're thinking I'm using the Select Object tool. I'm not. It's pretty obvious that's not going to work, because it doesn't even afford access to the "TouchUp properties" dialog.

  • Best strategy to retrieve large amount of data with EJB ?

    Hi all
    I have an EJB 3 which is fronted by a Web Service. The EJB retrieves a large amount of objects (TaskList) and returns it to the client.
    @Stateless
    public List <TaskList> findByRole(String role){
    List <TaskList> tasklist = em.createNamedQuery("findByRole")
    .setParameter("Role", role)
    .getResultList();
    return tasklist;
    }The problem is the query is rather slow but especially returning lots of objects in the SOAP envelopes takes a lot of time.
    So I'd like to retrieve only a "slot" of the data. Is there any EJB3/Hibernate object which could help ?
    By myself the only solution that I found is to turn the SLSB into SFSB , add a parameter to the method and return only a slot, not the whole TaskList.
    @Stateful
    List <TaskList> tasklist;
    public List <TaskList> findByRole(String role, int slot){
    tasklist = em.createNamedQuery("findByRole")
    .setParameter("Role", role)
    .getResultList();
    // Take a piece of the TaskList
    return tasklist;
    }What do you think ? any idea on how to improve this ?
    Thanks

  • Large amounts of video data 2TB+

    Over the next several months the University of Michigan will be videotaping elementary school classes. We hope to tape at least 40 classrooms with two cameras in each classroom for about 90min each. Im estimating I will have 2-3 TB of video files I need to safely store and edit. Im considering buying External 1TB Firewire Hard drives for this. In the past using multiple external HDDs was not the best solution. When I have more than 1 or 2 Firewire devices hooked up I start losing connections.
    Can someone help me locate information on best practices for storing and editing large amounts of video files with PPro?

    I'd recommend looking at solutions offered by one of these companies. If you contact them and describe what you are trying to accomplish, they can offer suggestions...

  • Is the only way to import large amount of data and database objects into a primary database is to shutdown the standby, turn off archive log mode, do the import, then rebuild the standby?

    I have a primary database that need to import large amount of data and database objects. 1.) Do I shutdown the standby? 2.) Turn off archive log mode? 3.) Perform the import? 4.) Rebuild the standby? or is there a better way or best practice?

    Instead of rebuilding the (whole) standby, you take an incremental (from SCN) backup from the Primary and restore it on the Standby.  That way, if, for example
    a. Only two out of 12 tablespaces are affected by the import, the incremental backup would effectively be only the blocks changed in those two tablespaces (and some other changes in system and undo) {provided that there are no other changes in the other ten tablespaces}
    b. if the size of the import is only 15% of the database, the incremental backup to restore to the standby is small

  • Converting large amounts of points - 76 million lat/lon's to spatial object...

    Hello, I need help.
    Platform - Oracle 11g 64bit on Windows Enterprise server 2008 64bit.  64 GB of ram with 2 CPUs totalling 24 cores
    Does any one know of a fast way to convert large amounts of points to a spatial object?  I need to convert 76 million lat/lon's to ESRI st_geometry or Oracle sdo_geometry.
    Currently, I have setup code using pipelined parallel functions and multiple jobs that run concurrently.  It still takes over 2.5 hours to process all of the points.
    Any pointers would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks
    John

    Hi,
    Where is the lat/lon data at the moment?  In an external text file or in an existing database table as number attributes?
    If they're in an external text file, then I'd probably use an external table to load them in as quickly as possible.
    If they're in an existing database table, then you can just update the sdo_geometry column using:
    update <table> set <geometry column> = sdo_geometry(2001, <your srid>, sdo_point_type(<lon column>, <lat column>, null), null, null)
    where <lon column> is not null
    and <lat column> is not null;
    That should run very quick for you.  If you want to avoid the overhead of creating redo, you could use "create table .... as select...".  This example of creating 1,000,000 points runs in 9 seconds for me.
    create table sample_points (geometry) nologging as
      (select sdo_geometry(2001, null,
      sdo_point_type(
      trunc(100000 * dbms_random.value()),
      trunc(100000 * dbms_random.value()),
      null), null, null)
      from dual connect by level <= 1000000);
    I have setup code using pipelined parallel functions and multiple jobs that run concurrently
    You shouldn't need to use pl/sql for this task.  If you find you do, then provide some sample code and we'll take a look.

  • Error in Generating reports with large amount of data using OBIR

    Hi all,
    we hve integrated OBIR (Oracle BI Reporting) with OIM (Oracle Identity management) to generate the custom reports. Some of the custom reports contain a large amount of data (approx 80-90K rows with 7-8 columns) and the query of these reports basically use the audit tables and resource form tables primarily. Now when we try to generate the report, it is working fine with HTML where report directly generate on console but the same report when we tried to generate and save in pdf or Excel it gave up with the following error.

  • In Object Properties dialog box, modify "tab path"...

    For FrameMaker versions up to and including 8 (and I suspect 9).
    Select a graphic, then click in sequence
    ESC g o to open the
    Object Properties dialog box. By default the dialog box opens with the insertion point in the
    Width text entry area.
    Now press TAB four times: The insertion point moves sequentially to the
    Height,
    Top,
    Left, and then
    Color text entry areas.
    I wish the last movement, to the
    Color text entry area, was replaced with movement to the
    Percent text entry area. This would enable me to use the keyboard to efficiently configure the size, position, and scaling of a graphic.
    As it is, I virtually never need to select the graphic's
    Color text entry area and the movement of the insertion point to that essentially useless tool drives me crazy: It makes me TAB all the way 'round the dialog box or grab the pointing device to get it to the
    Percent text entry area...
    Cheers,
    Riley

    Odd... What does your properties dialog look like? Can you post a screenshot of the dialog box? Also, what version of LabVIEW are you running?

  • Why each time I try to save my day's work,version WITH mark-ups and version w/o, does it say "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to access this? What is clipboard and how can I just save my work in its proper file?

    I don't get this clipboard thing! I have created two files, one for the MS with mark-ups, and one for the unmarred version, each living in their own spot in my "house." It seems to be merging the two versions and I have to go in and re-paste and then it always says "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to be able to access this?" and it prompts me to say no but I am afraid I'll lose my day's work so I just tap cancel. I highlight the day's revision and select "copy" to paste into the unmarked doc. before I save on the marked up or working doc. It is when I try to close that one that the clipboard issue pops up. What can you tell be about saving doc. in two places and how to NOT get it on clipboard? Thanks! I am not super computer savvy so layperson's language much appreciated!

    Are you using Microsoft word?  Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users.  I have seen this message from Microsoft word.  It's annoying.
    As BDaqua points out...
    When you copy information via edit > copy,  command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
    If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information.  Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
    You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes.  command + s does a save.

  • Advice needed on how to keep large amounts of data

    Hi guys,
    Im not sure whats the best way is to make large amounts of data available to my android  app on the local device.
    For example records of food ingredients, in the 100's?
    I have read and successfully created .db's using this tutorial.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7d49. html
    However to populate the database I use flash? So this kind of defeats the purpose of it. No point in me shifting a massive array of data from flash to a sql database, when I could access the data direct from the as3 array?
    So maybe I could create the .db with an external program? but then how would I include that .db in the apk file and then deploy it to users android device.
    Or maybe I create a as3 class with an xml object init and use that as a means of data storage?
    Any advice would be appreciated

    You can use any means you like to populate your SQLite database, including using external programs, (temporarily) embedding a text file with SQL statements, executing some SQL from AS3 code etc etc.
    Once you have populated your db, deploy it with your project:

    Hi cowboyincognito,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    If you don't have the option to play music by genre on your iPhone, try this step to find the Genre option:
    Browse your music library.
    You can browse your music by playlist, artist, or other category. For other browse options, tap More. Tap any song to play it.
    To rearrange the tabs in the Music app, tap More, then tap Edit and drag a button onto the one you want to replace.

  • With journaling, I have found that my computer is saving a large amount of data, logs of all the changes I make to files; how can I clean up these logs?

    With journaling, I have found that my computer is saving a large amount of data, logs of all the changes I make to files; how can I clean up these logs?
    For example, in Notes, I have written three notes; however if I click on 'All On My Mac' on the side bar, I see about 10 different versions of each note I make, it saves a version every time I add or delete a sentence.
    I also noticed, that when I write an email, Mail saves about 10 or more draft versions before the final is sent.
    I understand that all this journaling provides a level of security, and prevents data lost; but I was wondering, is there a function to clean up journal logs once in a while?
    Thanks

    When you copy information via edit > copy,  command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
    If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information.  Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
    You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes.  command + s does a save.
