Editing multi-camera in CS6

Looking for this page:
http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/editing-multi-camera-sequences.html
But for CS6, not CS5.5 and earlier. This stuff has changed for CS6, but I can't seem to find the help documents that talk about it, and we don't yet have the PDFs to look stuff up in. Anyone show me where to find it?

There is a pretty simple way to sync multiple tracks of video on the timeline using unnumbered clip markers.  Basically you find the frame in each track you want the all the tracks to sync to and in each track add an unnumber marker at that point.  Then there is a command that will move the tracks to line up those unnumbered markers and, shazam, you are synced!  Here is an excerpt from a help discussion from Adobe:
Synchronize clips with markers
Make sure that you’ve marked the sync points for each camera’s footage before you attempt to synchronize them. You can mark the sync points by setting similarly numbered markers for each clip or by reassigning each clip’s timecode. (See Add markers and Set timecode manually for a clip.)
Note:  Premiere Pro uses an overwrite edit when synchronizing clips. Take care not to overwrite adjacent clips if you have multiple clips on the same track.
Select the clips you want to synchronize.
Target a track (by clicking its track header) to align the other clips to it. For example, if you synchronize clips on their Out point, the end of each clip aligns with the Out point of the targeted track. A clip will be trimmed if synchronization causes its In point to fall before the sequence zero point.
Note:  If one track of a linked audio/video pair is unselected, the pair will become out of sync. Out-of-sync indicators will appear on the clips.
Choose Clip > Synchronize, and then choose one of the following options:
Clip Start
Synchronizes clips at their In points.
Clip End
Synchronizes clips at their Out points.
Timecode
Synchronizes clips to the specified timecode. If you use the hours value in source timecode as a camera designator, select the Ignore Hours option to use only minutes, seconds, and frames to synchronize clips.
Numbered Clip Marker
Synchronizes clips to the specified numbered clip marker. Choose the marker number to use from the Marker menu.
You can also use the Synchronize command to sync several video clips on separate tracks or unlinked audio and video tracks when you are not editing a multi-camera sequence.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Editing multi‑camera sequences (CS6)

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/editing-multi-camera-sequences1.html

According to the tutorial at http://www.video2brain.com/en/videos-13067.htm audio now defaults not to Track 1 of the source sequence as it used to, but to the video first selected when choosing between the multiple cameras.
I understand TimB was wishing to mix audio in the audio mixer in the source sequences and apply that to the multicam sequence without export audio and re-importing.
According to my notes to self in June 2012 when I used CS6 to do a multicam project, I wrote:
“To enable audio for all cameras, right click on the Source Sequence and ‘Open in Timeline’
Enable all the audio tracks you want.”
    And that was all.
However the PremPro instructions for CS6 says:
Enabling audio in the multi-camera source sequence
By default, Premiere Pro only enables audio channel one in the multi-camera source sequence. For multi-camera editing workflow, enable each audio track manually before editing the target sequence. To enable audio tracks for the multi-camera source sequence, do the following:
    1. Open the multi-camera source sequence by selecting the multi-camera source sequence icon in the Project panel, right-click
(Win) or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) the icon, and then choose Open In Timeline.
    2. The Timeline opens. Select the audio tracks, and then enable the other audio tracks by clicking the Toggle Track Output
    button for each audio track.
    3. Now that all audio tracks are enabled, you can close the sequence
This is how I remember it but it doesn’t gel with TimB’s post. There are two sections in the Help pdf, one for CS5.5 (and I think CS5) and a separate one for CS6 as quoted above.

  • Editing multi‑camera sequences (tutorial)

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSC29F4BF4-C2EA-4ad5-879E-778C2740A768.ht ml

Pete Bauer of Contrail Media explains the basic procedures for working within the multi-cam editing environment, and then guides you through a sample sequence involving four source video clips as they are mixed into one in this video tutorial on DVInfo.net.

  • I'm editing multi cam with 4 cameras and my program keeps freezing up.

I think that the only way to stop this from happening is to increase my RAM but I wanted to find out, what is the recommended solution? I'm using Premier Pro CC 2015. on Windows 8.1.

First, that video controller seems to be a board-mounted one ... not "bad" as far as those go, but without it's own supporting cast so to speak. It doesn't seem to have any v-RAM, I'm assuming just uses the RAM of the computer itself. And at 8Gb, that's ... very minimal for the CPU. It's got more guts to the video capability than my laptop does, but not enough to really carry the video weight.
Second, with only your system drive and one USB3.0 external, your drive capabilities are very low. If that external has a faster-than-normal cache-read/write performance, and the only thing on it was your footage (media), at least the media could get read into the process decently though with multi-cam sequences that's a harder workload than single-clip work. With that setup, however you've got your various parts of the process laid out, you simply don't have the capability to pass data back and forth at playback speeds. Not even close.
Even a second internal SSD that you could put project files, cache, database, & previews on would improve your performance. It would still be low, but not as way low. That's one of the frustrating things ... these video programs are huge suckers of computer hardware capability. My laptop runs Lightroom & even Photoshop just fine. It's worse than yours for trying to do video on, however. But ... when I got it, I hadn't yet started down the video processing trail. All of 2-1/2 years ago.
As we can afford it, that will go to my wife ... also a professional portrait photog. I'll get something vastly more potent for the ability to do some video work on it.

  • Can't nudge my edited Multi-Cam sequence forward with the Track Select Tool

Hello, Good People of this forum,
I can't move it forward using the Track Select Tool. I checks to make sure the mother tracks weren't locked and I can move that timeline fine.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am having a similar issue. My system and FCP are latest updates.
I have a set of clips shot with one tripod camera for the full length, and what looks like one or two other "roving" cameras getting closeups and other angles, but start and top points (not runnign the entire interview). Effectively these are B roll with matching audio.
If I run Sync Clips, it makes a huge mess piling them all one atop another. The audio souds like a party, not a conversation with two people.
When I make a Multicam clip, FCP does a "pretty good job" but some short clips are WAY out of sync...
Then it becomes a puzzle to find where they go.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for monitoring the video of the track on which I have just clicked the clip it's on? the one Multiclip when I am done?

  • Audio limitation in CS6 multi-cam?

I'm trying to use stereo audio from my source files when I create a multi-cam clip (I've confirmed the source files are indeed stereo as there is different content on the left and right sides and when I bring that into a new sequence on it's own the source will use 2 audio tracks).
However, if I create a multicam clip in the media browser and bring that into a new sequence, the audio becomes mono and only refers to the left side of the source files and pans that center, making the right side unusable.
    Is this a bug?

If the right channel is on A1, and the left channel is on A2, then you must open the multi-camera source sequence in a Timeline and enable A2.
Here's the part of Help I wanted you to note:
By default, Premiere Pro CS6 only enables audio channel one in the multi-camera source sequence. For multi-camera editing workflow, enable other audio tracks manually before editing the target sequence. To enable audio tracks for the multi-camera source sequence, do the following:
Open the multi-camera source sequence by selecting the multi-camera source sequence icon in the Project panel, right-click (Win) or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) the icon, and then choose Open In Timeline.
The Timeline opens. Select the audio tracks, and then enable the other audio tracks by clicking the Toggle Track Output button for each audio track you would like to monitor.
Now that your chosen audio tracks are enabled, you can close the sequence.
You should now be able to monitor both channels as you cut your multicamera source sequence.
Let us know if that worked for you.

  • Help Improve Premiere! FR: Separate, maximizable Multi-camera view

Do you ever use Premiere CC's Multi-Camera tools?  Then this FR is for you!
Please copy/paste as your own and send to https://www.adobe.com/go/wish/.  Every voice counts!
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature: Separate windows for Multi-camera view and Program Monitor, with ability to tilde toggle to full screen either or both.
How would you like the feature to work?
The Multi-camera view and the Program Monitor should occupy separate, individually resizable and maximizable windows.
Why is this feature important to you?
The way these interface elements are currently squeezed into the same window is extremely limiting as far a viewing options.  When the Multi-camera view is displayed, users can no longer do a full-screen preview of their edit, nor can they do a full screen preview of their multi-camera angles.  This is unnecessarily restrictive.  By putting the Multi-camera view in it's own window, and allowing it to be tilde maximized to full screen, users would have so much more flexibility for viewing their camera angles and their final edit while editing multi-camera sequences.

    Hi Kevin,
I'm not sure how sticking the Multi-Camera View together with the Program Monitor does anything to clean up the interface.  But supposing it does somehow, how can the person responsible for this change justify 'cleaning' the interface at the tremendous expense of functionally?
The current design simply isn't functional as already stated:
Full screen preview can't be used for the Program Monitor and/or the Camera Angles.
The Camera Angles can't be positioned and resized independently on their own monitor.  Ditto for the Program Monitor.
How could the PP team miss this?  Sorry to be brash, but it just baffles me how an entire team of  adults can commit such an obvious gaffe.    Perhaps they need to screen their ideas past real users, users like me that think outside the box and speak up when things don't work.  For sure Adobe already does this, but it clearly isn't working, either because they're consulting the wrong people and/or they're getting the right feedback but aren't listening to it.
When I have to multicam edit on my laptop, I would LOVE to be able to display ONLY my camera angles in Full Screen.  This would make each camera angle a usable size on a 17" laptop, and leave out any and all distracting interface elements (something helpful on any size monitor).   After my initial edit is finished, I could then scale down my Multi-camera View and place it next to my Program Monitor above my Timeline to refine the edit.  The current design makes this logical approach impossible.
I was REALLY hoping to see this fixed in 7.2.  The problems with the current design are so painfully obvious to me, every single time I do multicamera editing.  IMHO, it should also be obvious to anyone that trully understand video editing.
You wrote "this appeals to some and not to others.", but for the life of me, I can't see how this change could possible appeal to anyone (other than a sadist that gets pleasure out of seeing an editor's workflow getting screwed).

  • Multi-cam sequences not working right

Ok so I am working on this ballet and I have created multiple multi-camera edited sequences. I placed the edited multi-cam sequences all in a new sequence together and only one camera angle shows up. What am I doing wrong? And is there a limit on the number of sequences you should make that contain other sequences?

Personally, I like the workflow of taking each segment into Encore as its own timeline (as long as it was a logical unit to begin with - scene, musical number, etc.).  Use playlist to do a play all, and the "scenes" are already set.
Did you do the test I suggested with one sequence?  I just don't see how you could have the problem you had.  I just did a quick test; edited multicam sequence brought into a new sequence: I see the edited version.
Are you sure you are bringing in the edited sequence and not the original (multi-video track) version?

  • Multi cam play problem

what i want to do is edit multi-cam on the fly. my footage is dvcpro hd 720p 59.94 that i captured through kona. i have set up a raid 0 for my my 3 internal 1tb hard drives. i have 4 cams that i have multiclipped. for the most part, the multiclip plays fine in the viewer. however after i edit it into the sequence, select multiclip in the button bar and set the playback head to open, it tells me it's unrendered in both the viewer and canvas and won't play the picture. also i frequently get the dropped frame error warning. when i deselect multiclip playback on the timeline, the sequence does play, but the quad split only advances when i pause which isn't all that useful. on avid with this particular footage format i could step down the playback quality (from green to yellow) and the quad split would play fine though blurry. in any case, does anyone have any ideas. thanks.

Did you try what the Unlimited RT setting?
The multiclip threshold is dependent upon your system. Based on your OP, it seems as if you have the drives for it, but what about your computer?
I was able to use 7 clips of 1080i Pro Res content in a multiclip before I got an orange (unlimited RT) line above my footage.

  • `~`* Multi-Cam = DSLR sending me to LOONEY BIN!!

    First off, my system properties...
quad core, 16GB RAM, GTX550Ti graphics card
    Premiere CS5.5
    I'm editing multi-cam....
Two camera's with diff properties -
    Cam #1) 29.97fps + 1.33 PAR + 1440X1080
    Cam #2) 23.97 fps + 1.0 PAR + 1920X1080 = (DSLR)
The main problem I'm having has to do with the DSLR - cam #2...seems to be making premiere go a little haywire.
    The two big issues =
    A) When opening project, sometimes DSLR footage shows up in the project panel....sometimes it doesn't. It just says media pending. A couple times it's said "media offline".
I have to quit premiere and start it back up and usually it pops back up...sometimes further opening/closing is required.
Initially when I imported the files into the various projects (about 13 total proj's for the series I'm producing)....the DSLR footage did not import. It just froze premiere and had to open/close...try until it worked. Some proj's the footage imported right away. Same project settings.
    B) Currently, I'm rendering the video's and about 12 diff times so far, the exports either don't start when I start queue....or they do start but freeze at a given point (5%, 15%, 40% complete).
I would think this has to do with the DSLR #2 cam but that's what I want your insight on. I then close the proj out + encoder, and reopen and repeat until it works. It's worked for all with exception of one video.
Why is the DSLR giving such trouble - as listed above?
    Any solutions for this?
The DSLR plays choppy as well, even when I match sequence exactly to video. But, my computer isn't taxed at all = low CPU/RAM.
    Don't understand it...
All I know is it's a massive pain in the tush!
    Other details...
I tried editing via the multicam monitor but the playback was so choppy I decided to just created a nested sequence and edit via timeline.
The sequence that worked best = specs matching Cam #1 (listed above)...so I went with that.
Is there a better way to setup the sequence for two diff camera's with diff properties?
Maybe...right clicking the DSLR footage - interpreting footage - assume frame rate...and maybe other settings?
Other issues that you may be able to help out with...
When you create a nested sequence and enable multi-cam - the audio waveform disappears. I tried a few things and searched around for a way to get audio waveform to reappear. Ultimately, I rendered the audio and audio wave pops back up.
    But...
If I have to close project, switch to another project or the proj crashes, etc.....the rendered audio waveform disappears and I need to re-render again. Is there a way to remedy this? I just need to see the waveform without having to re-render or render at all. I only need one audio track for the two camera's.
Thanks for your help - really appreciate it.
P.S. - don't know why it's highlighting my text w/white box...tried fixing but no dice.

    Thanks Fuzzy and Dave...
    Dave - disk setup...
Everything is on C drive when it comes to adobe files, media cache, etc...
All the elements/media (video, images, etc..) for the project are on an external 500GB HDD.
There's def. a reason why I'm running into all these problems namely, what's below, but just need to obviously pinpoint what the source of the problem actually is...asap...
    A) When opening project, sometimes DSLR footage shows up in the project panel....sometimes it doesn't. It just says media pending. A couple times it's said "media offline".
I have to quit premiere and start it back up and usually it pops back up...sometimes further opening/closing is required.

I would think this has to do with the DSLR #2 cam but that's what I want your insight on. I then close the proj out + encoder, and reopen and repeat until it works. It's worked for all with exception of one video.
Another thing I forgot to add to the above...
I'm not able to add these video's the render queue. I need to render each one by one because of the same trouble - the next video in queue after previous is finished, usually doesn't even load to begin rendering. The encoder just gets stuck.
Regarding what you said Dave =
I agree with Fuzzy - if your system can't cope with the dynamic matching, transcode your DV camera #1 clip into regular 1080p and use a matching sequence for the multicam. Beyond that, you could render proxies for everything.
My system does seem to be able to handle it b/c as I said, I have low CPU/RAM usage and I'm GPU accelerated.
In terms of playback, I get the same amount of "drag" with mixed footage in a sequence matching Cam #1 than when I match seq. to Cam #2 (DSLR). So more strangenosity! Again, my comp isn't taxed = low CPU/RAM.
You guys rec transcoding. Interpreting footage and matching to DSLR wouldn't be effective?
You think a mismatch in footage is causing all the problems I've listed? Doesn't seem to be the case.
Maybe it's the disk setup as you suggested but I wouldn't think so. Seems to be just a standard setup I've got.
    Thank you - talk soon

  • Adobe Premiere CC, Trying to Sync 2 camera for Multi cam edit.

    Hi,
I am at present trying out Premeire CC, my workflow is usually a minimum of a 2 camera shoot for weddings, what I am trying todo in CC is to try and sync all the clips together for a multi cam sequence ready to edit.
I have followed various options fropm Adobe TV and some you tube videos with no luck.
I have 2 folders imported one folder for cam 1 and second folder for cam 2. I  select all the clips and select the new multi cam option, and choose audio for syncing. CC status bar come up and looks like it is syncing, however at the end a error comes up saying one or more clips could not be synced.
at present with CS6 I put both camera footage on one timeline video 1 video 2, I then export as an xml, and use red giant plural eyes for syncing, I then import xml back into premiere, and all files are synced pretty good. I would say 90 to 100% of time without to many issues.
can some one advise if this is possble is CC, if so whats the best method. thank you

Premiere Pro cannot do this automatically.  You will need to create a multicam sequence for each pair of clips, cut those, and then add them to the main edit as needed.
Little tip: knowing that each segment will need it's own multicam sequence, let the cameras run until that segment is over.

  • Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence Options Box Problem in CS6

Hello there; it seems in my CS6 i dont the complete box as the below:-
i only have in points, Out points and Time codes ( I dont have the Audio and the remain box) as the above.
Is anyone able to en-light me? as i have to do Multicam project as as possible
    Regards & Thanks

that seems to be exclusive to the CC version. so you would either have to upgrade or find a work around.  you can manually sync the footage using markers or in points, or if doing this alot and you dont want to upgrade might look at pluraleyes.

  • CS6 Multi-camera greenscreen & multicam monitor?

Does anyone know if there's a way to do Multi-Camera Monitor editing, when the source footage uses multiple cameras against a greenscreen, when the greenscreen replacement layer is to be unique for each of the 3 angles?
I recently shot a few instructional videos in a greenscreen studio.  My setup was such that I had 3 cameras, for three different angles, and remotely-recorded audio.
Now in the process of editing, I've hit a bit of a wall, and was hoping for some help.
I'm using Premiere Pro CS6, and I've set up the project as such:
The sequence in the timeline has 6 video layers: 1 layer for each of 3 camera angles, and 1 unique background replacement layer for each camera angle.
Now I want to use Multi-Camera Monitor to do my angle cuts. The problem is that Multi-Camera Monitor sees the 6 different video layers as unique camera layers.
I want to know if there's a way to do multicamera editing such that I can lock each camera and background replacement layer - such that Multi-Camera Monitor sees them as one.
My first attempted workaround was to create individual sequences for each of the 3 angles give them the background replacement treatment, then nest each of these into a new sequence, and go from there. The problem I've found in doing this is that the audio waveform display for each of the individual sequence layers disappears (once they are nested in the big sequence) - so I didn't see a way to sync things up without an audio source.@
I *could* always create and export each of the angles and replace the greenscreen for each as it should be, export each of them, and drag these to the Project panel to use as my new "original layers".  Just seems like a lot of extra work, and that there would be an easier way to do all this.
Also thinking I could create a master source sequence (every angle, background replacement, audio, synced up), duplicate it three times and delete 2 of the camera angles in each, then combine each in a nested sequence with the audio, then make my cuts in yet another sqeuence with Multi-Camera Monitor.  Again, seems like this should be easier somehow.
Any advice would be very helpful.  I couldn't seem to find any answers elsewhere. Thank you in advance.

    Thanks for the note.
I thought about the first option - the problem is perspective (The background is slightly different for each angle, not uniform). And dragging the backgrounds to a BG layer later would be somewhat time intensive.
Nesting is interesting, but I've got so many of these videos, the Multicam Monitor way of editing together angles seems like it would be less work in the end.
Here's the workflow I think I'm going to go with:
Create a 'Master Source Sequence', and align everything. (Angle 1, Background for angle 1, Angle 2, Background for angle 2, Angle 3, Background for angle 3, Audio tracks).
Duplicate this sequence 3 times.  Delete all elements from each copy except for one of the cam angles, and rename each to 'Cam 1 Sequence', 'Cam 2 Sequence', 'Cam 3 Sequence'.
Drag each of these 3 to a new sequence, called 'Prep for Multicam Sequence'.
Drag this to 'Mutlicam Cut Sequence', drag in external audio tracks from 'Master Source Sequence', cut with Multicam as normal.
Again, thanks for the follow up!

  • CS6 Premier Pro - Create Multi-Camera Source greyed out

    CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9
I have been following the Adobe tutorial about how to do Multi-Camera editing. Following all the steps. Somehow what my Premiere offers me is not the same the guy does in the tutorial:
    1) Put all the video & audio files in a bin in the Project tab. Tutorial says: right click the bin and you get contextual menu that offers "Create Multi-Camera Source". Nope - not getting that.
    2) Selecting ALL files in that bin gives me the "Create Multi-Camera Source" option; but only if there isn't .wav or aif audio file in the list. The tutorial implies that audio files DO work.
    3) When I finally found the set of video files that gave me the "Create Multi-Camera Source" option I got a dialog that was considerably smaller than the one in the tutorial. While the tutorial shows options for Timecode syncing and syncing via audio I only see Synchronize Point. To synchronize using audio would have been most useful.
It must be something I am doing wrong or something incorrect with my source files (mp4 at the same format and audio). But what?
    Thanks
    Peter

You can see a good tutorial on the entire process here - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cc/multicamera-workflows-with-premiere-pro/
The help page also gives step by step - Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Multi-camera editing workflow.  I was talking about step 4. Create a multi-camera target sequence.

  • Multi Camera editing & stuff

I'm hoping to try something new if it is possible.
I want to edit a recorded multi camera sequance as though it was a live transmission i.e. have 'monitors' showing the various synced video sources. I'm not sure if this is possible with Adobe (I have the master collection).
If it isn't possible could someone advise on the best way to edit from 4-5 camera set-up (the cameras are set-up and are unmaned during meetings/ events).
Whilst I am posting I slip in a cople of simple questions. How do I clean my hard drive of old files (my C: drive is rapidly running out of space although all projects etc should be stored on by D: drive)? Is it possible to export back to a similar encoded file as originally captured from DV tape. Un compressed DV yields a data rate too big to handle easily (300mbps) and MS DV is much smaller (3mbps) - the original capture was just under 40mbps.
Thanks for any help you can offer

    Hi chaps, thanks for responses.
Just to clarify my hardware is a home built PC with a i7-950 processor corsair SSD 256gb system drive and 2 raptors running raid 0 as by data (D:) drive.
I have read the help files about multicam view but unless I'm missing something you can only view one feed at a time. What I want to do is show all four syncronized feed running in real time so that I can choose which source I want.
All captures except 1 are from DV cameras (import via firewire - no problems) the other is a digital camera which uses the MP4 format (not so easy - problems encoding).
It would appear that if I tried to save the produced 1 hour video in uncompressed DV format the file would be just over 135gb!! (300mbps x 60 x 60 /8).
The captured files are about 13gb/hour.
Is there a better way to save the media for possible further editing i.e. a different encoder?
    Thanks for your help
