Efficiency ios 7 security apple id

Hi,
I just got my iphone 5S stolen.
I wonder about ios 7 security. I know it has been really improved but I would like to know if the Apple ID request is really secure and if the robber has any chance to success in reinitialization of the iPhone.
For example, if they reboot it on FDU mode, is the Apple ID will be asked ?
And will they be able to modify the EMEI number. In that case, I can consider it as completely lost.
I don't want to know how to do it ... and even less give them a way to do it.
For info, the 4 digit code was configured, siri and control center were not accessible on locked screen and I know that they turned it off because i was tracking them with my iPad.
I think remembering it asked me my code before i was able to use the Touch ID, so I guess my finger prints on the screen will be useless.
Thanks if you can give me some hope...
Eric
PS: Sorry for my english ... it's not my mother tongue

Thanks Tim..
Yes I did. It's all set on my phone and others devices.
I now hope the police services will find it soon...
Thanks
Eric

  • ITunes no longer syncs to iPhone or iPad after iOS security update

I did the iOS security update on my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air.  Now, iTunes will not sync with either device - neither one.  In both cases, I get the error message "iPhone5 (or iPad) can not be synced.  An unknown error occured (1140)."
I then did the iTunes update that just came out - still the same problem.
The Mac is a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 7 running OSX 10.7.5.  Everything worked fine before the iOS security update.
What is going on?  What to do?

Finally, I had time to do a on-line support session with the Apple Care help people (excellent).  We went through and verified a lot of things.  Finally, he had me run the disk utility and run "repair disk permissions".  That resolved things and it works now.
Also related is that the iOS 7.1 update installed a lot of stuff on the iPhone - including iMovie, Numbers, Pages, Keynotes - stuff that I will use on the iPad but not on the iPhone.  The result of automatically installing all these things on the iPhone was to but it way over the limit on memory.  I deselected thos apps (and a few others) plus some movies and am now below the memory limit on the iPhone.
Things are now working well with both the iPhone and iPad - both syncing correctly.  So, with that, I will close out this case.

  • Mail security Apple ID

I get a message (17 lines) of gibberish titled "IOS 7.0.6-security-Apple ID".  It appears to be sent from my address. I've called Apple on this and don't get any help but mentioning I should change my apple id p/w. I've done this but still get messages regarding the above .  Anyone experienced this or know if it's a security issue?

On your computer or safari on your iOS device navigate to:
              For Canada - https://appleid.apple.com/ca.
              For United States - https://appleid.apple.com/us/.
Click the "Manage your Apple ID" button, and sign in to your iCloud account.  Once in, on the left side select "Password and Security", and this will populate our options on the right side.  You should see an option to reset your security questions.
Also see this article - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312.
If for any reason you can not reset these security questions, or get an error, then you may need to contact Apple directly at 1 800 692 7753.  Explain the issue, and they can get your to a "Account Security" agent, who will be able to verify your identity, and assist in resetting the security questions.

  • Best Practices For Household IOS's/Apple IDs

    Greetings:
I've been searching support for best practices for sharing primarily apps, music and video among multple iOS's/Apple IDs.  If there is a specific article please point me to it.
    Here is my situation:
We currently have 3 iPads (2-kids, 1-dad) in the household and one iTunes account on a win computer.  I previously had all iPads on single Apple ID/credit card and controlled the kids' downloads thru the Apple ID password that I kept secret.  As the kids have grown older, I found myself constantly entering my password as the kids increased there interest in music/apps/video.  I like this approach because all content was shared...I dislike because I was constantly asked to input password for all downloads.
So, I recently set up an individual account for them with the allowance feature at iTunes that allows them to download content on their own (I set restrictions on their iPads).  Now I have 3 Apple IDs under one household.
    My questions:
With the 3 Apple IDs, what is the best way to share apps, music, videos among myself and the kids?  Is it multiple accounts on the computer and some sort of sharing?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Bonesaw1962,
We've had our staff and students run iOS updates OTA via Settings -> Software Update. In the past, we put a DNS block on Apple's update servers to prevent users from updating iOS (like last fall when iOS 7 was first released). By blocking mesu.apple com, the iPads weren't able to check for or install any iOS software updates. We waited until iOS 7.0.3 was released before we removed the block to mesu.apple.com at which point we told users if they wanted to update to iOS 7 they could do so OTA. We used our MDM to run reports periodically to see how many people updated to iOS 7 and how many stayed on iOS 6. As time went on, just about everyone updated on their own.
If you go this route (depending on the number of devices you have), you may want to take a look at Caching Server 2 to help with the network load https://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#caching-server . From Apple's website, "When a user on your network downloads new software from Apple, a copy is automatically stored on your server. So the next time other users on your network update or download that same software, they actually access it from inside the network."
I wish there was a way for MDMs to manage iOS updates, but unfortunately Apple hasn't made this feature available to MDM providers. I've given this feedback to our Apple SE, but haven't heard if it is being considered or not. Keeping fingers crossed.
Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide on and keep us posted on the progress. Good luck!!

  • Branch office setup with L3 switch and router with IOS security

    Hello,
I am in the process of putting together a small branch office network and I am in need of some design advise. The network will support about 10-15 workstations/phones, 3-4 printers, and 4-5 servers. In addition we will eventually have up to 25-30 remote users connecting to the servers via remote access VPN, and there will also be 2-3 site-to-site IPSec tunnels to reach other branches.
I have a 2911 (security bundle) router and 3560 IP Base L3 switch to work with. I have attached a basic diagram of my topology. My initial design plan for the network was to setup separate VLANs for workstation, phone, printer, and server traffic. The 3560 would then be setup with SVIs to perform routing between VLANs. The port between the router and switch would be setup as a routed port, and static routes would be applied on the switch and router as necessary. The thought behind this was that I'd be utilizing the switch backplane for VLAN routing instead instead of doing router-on-a-stick.
Since there is no firewall between the switch and router my plan was to setup IOS firewalling on the router. From what I am reading ZBF is my best option for this. What I was hoping for was a way to set custom policies for each VLAN, but it seems that zones are applied per interface. Since the interface between the router and switch is a routed interface, not a trunk/subinterface(s), it doesn't seem like there would be a way for me to use ZBF to control traffic on different VLANs. From what I am gathering I would have to group all of my internal network into one zone, or I would have to scrap L3 switching all together and do router-on-a-stick if I want to be able to set separate policies for each VLAN. Am I correct in my thinking here?
I guess what I am getting at is that I really don't want to do router-on-a-stick if I have a nice switch backplane to do all of the internal routing. At the same time I obviously need some kind of firewalling done on the router, and since different VLANs have different security requirements the firewalling needs to be fairly granular.
If I am indeed correct in the above thinking what would be the best solution for my scenario? That is, how can I setup this network so that I am utilizing the switch to do L3 routing while also leveraging the firewall capabilities of IOS security?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Austin

    Thanks for the input.
    1. I agree, since I have only three to four printers, they need not be in a separate VLAN. I simply was compartmentalizing VLANs by function when I initially came up with the design.
    2. Here's a little more info on the phone situation. The phones are VoIP. The IP PBX is on premise, but they are currently on a completely separate ISP/network. The goal in the future is to converge the data and voice networks and setup PBR/route maps to route voice traffic out the voice ISP and data traffic out the other ISP. This leads up to #3.
    3. The reason a router was purchased over a firewall was that ASA's cannot handle routing and dual ISPs very well. PBR is not supported at all on an ASA, and dual ISPs can only be setup in an active/standby state. Also, an ASA Sec+ does not have near the VPN capabilities that the 2911 security does. The ASA Sec+ would support only 25 concurrent IPSec connections while the 2911 security is capable of doing an upwards of 200 IPSec connections.
Your point about moving the SVI's to a firewall to perform filtering between VLANs makes sense, however, wouldn't this be the same thing as creating subinterfaces on a router? In both cases you are moving routing from the switch backplane to the firewall/routing device, which is what I am trying to avoid.

  • I have had trim enabled but it seems for better security Apple want it turned off in Yosemite

Hi I have a Macbook pro Early 2011 with 8gb of ram and a 126gb ssd and I have just upgraded to Yosemite. The first login to Yosemite I got a message saying Tim enabler was not active & then I realised that my version did not run on the latest version of OSX. • IOS 7 Apple camera app - image size vs other camera app's image size

Is there a way to change the image size on the IOS 7 Apple camera app.  On the iPhone 5s the image is 2448x3264, correct, and the image size was 1.96Mb.  The Camera+ is 3.63Mb and CameraAwesome was 1.57Mb.  I can adjust the image size with Camera+ and did so.  If the Apple Camera app is not adjustable then it looks like there is significant reduction in the resolution of images, at least compared to C+.

You probably want to post this in the Developer Forums. This is the general user forum.
    Best of luck.

  • Ios security - encryption - where is it?

    hi all,
I read reports and apple's statements saying ios 8 is so secure and encrypted that law enforcement find it difficult to crack it. I used my iphone 6 with ios 8.1.1 on ubuntu linux and also windows 7 with ifunbox.
It doesn't matter if the phone is locked prior to this or not. The entire filesystem is accessible. I can see pictures, apps, ebooks, podcasts, safari data, itunes purchases, voice recordings, icloud sharing data directly. The files can be opened and viewed, there's no encryption for any of the things I mentioned, even if the phone was locked.
This works even for ios 6 - 8, with iphone 4s, iphone 5 and iphone 5s and iphone 6. I can't located emails, imessages and contacts as yet, but maybe by digging more into the filesystem, you could find those.
So my question is - what exactly are people who are against ios encryption complaining about? But more importantly, what does apple mean when it says that it's implemented a high level of security with system wide encryption?
This is apple's official link which talks about it: https://www.apple.com/privacy/privacy-built-in/
It mentions icloud data (including photos), health app, imessage, mail and other stuff.
I am attaching these images: Could someone shed more light on this?

sure, but how is it relevant that its "my computer"? Maybe in windows, but there's no itunes trust in linux. the phone is locked and I didn't click "trust this computer" when I connected using linux.
    so effectively its anyone's computer.

  • Please help - multiple IOS devices, Apple ID's and synching

I have an iPhone and an iPad Mini that belong to me.  Two of my kids have iPod Touch and soon a third will have one.  So there are multiple iOS devices in the family, two of which are used only by me.  Up to this point I've been managing them on one laptop running one iTunes library.  I've made various playlists for the kids music, and I gave them each the specific games they wanted, and I put the games I wanted on my devices....certain games for the iPhone and larger, more involved games for the iPad Mini.  I don't put music on the iPad because I only use music on my iPhone.  So all 4 devices have a different selection of games, apps, and music on them.  I've purchased everything with one apple ID....mine, and set each device up with it. Only I know the password so if one of the kids wants something, they still have to bring their device to me so I can put the password in for that purchase.
What I'd like to do is separate my kids apple ID's from mine.  This way, they can use their apple ID's to sign up for other services, have their own saved game data in the cloud, etc.  I'm running into situations where my son and I play the same game, but we keep overwriting each other's game progress because it's stored to my apple ID.  But I still want to be able to control their purchasing, so I figured I'd have to attach my credit card to their new ID's as well, but just not give them the password, so they still will have to come to me to punch in the password to download something.  But hopefully with this new setup, they'll have their own saved game progress that won't interfere with mine, even if we play some of the same games.
But how will this work if we synch them off my laptop?  I don't want to get into creating separate libraries or anything like that, and I'd still like to be able to download some apps using iTunes and put them on the devices manually if I need to.
What is your recommendation on how to handle this???  How will it work exactly?

You can do anything you want with one iTunes, but:
    Devices names must be different.
Don't sync anything under "Info" tab like Contacts Calendars etc. These info must be synced over iCloud. (Use a different Apple ID for each device)
Use the Same Apple ID for iTunes and App Stores settings in all iOS devices.

  • ITunes Home Sharing - iOS Devices & Apple TV

    Greetings All
For the first time since iOS 5 (yes... iOS 5), I have successfully conquered the conundrum with using home sharing from my iTunes library to my iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.2. It has been YEARS since I've been able to successfully share my library to my iPhone.
First might I add that I have a fairly "large" iTunes library, consisting of close to 30,000 songs of which 25k are encoded using Apple Lossless, resulting in songs with a larger file size than ordinary by comparison to a library with songs encoded with the default iTunes Plus format. I also have my iTunes library on an external hard drive which is connected via USB. I do believe that the size of the library.
As you can imagine, I've seen the many, many updates of iTunes along the way as well as the iOS updates to match. I have not successfully been able to connect to my library since I had my iPhone 4 using the first update introducing Home Sharing until around the iOS 5 mark. The issues I've endured prohibiting me from using this feature include:
    - Shared library appears in 'Shared' on the Music app however it doesn't connect successfully; i.e. loads only a half circle, fails to load at all, unable to load home sharing.
    - Unable to see the shared library at all, which is usually due to a minor omission such as failing to ensure the device is on the same network as the shared library, incorrect password etc.
Many have suggested that this feature fails to work due to network settings, however I have tried home sharing on completely different networks, routers and even COUNTRIES. Yes, once in Australia and now in the United States, all of which failed.
Here are some steps for my workaround:
    1. I renamed my computer: System Preferences > Sharing and then restarted my computer (Mac Pro mid-2010). This problems seems to help with Apple TVs.
    2. I reset my network settings on my iDevice: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. I also (at some stage) logged in and out of Home Sharing in iTunes: File > Home Sharing
I'm not sure if any of these steps were able to clear the issue, however the following steps were what solved my issue:
    1. I turned 'Auto-Lock' to 'Never' on my iDevice
    2. I then attempted to connect to my shared library in the Music app: More (bottom right) > Shared > Shared Library
    3. I patiently allowed the circle to load which took around 30 minutes (yes slow... like watching paint dry) and completely avoided touching my iPhone to exit the app. Turning off the Auto-Lock feature also prohibited the iPhone from locking while this was loading.
    4. The trick here is to be PATIENT. Once it showed that it was connected to my shared library, I went to send and gently scrolled down to allow all the artwork to populate to my phone.
Avoid playing any songs until this has been done. Again it takes a very long time but the trick is to allow your iPhone to successfully load your iTunes library as it tends to take a while to gather all the necessary information. Attempting to play a song will most likely mean that the song will just skip to the next, and the next, and the next... and the next.
With some patience and if you're still alive by this point, you'll find that you're able to scroll through playlists and songs without a glitch.
Again, it does take a very long time but it ultimately does end up working.
    Good luck!

After playing around one more time i was able to restart homesharing and get the apple tv to see my movies and music from the itunes on the imac (where itunes reads from the media server and manages the libary).  The question now is ...
does the media get routed over the router over multiple hops from media server --> router --> imac/itunes --> router --> appletv or is home sharing intelligent enough to read the file from the media server?

  • IPhone 4S wifi greyed out on iOS 7 - Apple's in-store response

    I was in the Apple Store on London two days ago to complain about my new IPhone 5s having wifi outages and a battery life of about 5 hours (of standby) when a woman came in and asked why her iPhone 4S has a greyed out wifi icon since the upgrade to iOS7. She was told her hardware had failed and that she should buy a new phone, or spend hundreds of pounds having it repaired by Apple. If only I was aware then as I am now that Apple are destroying iPhone 4 phones with their new software;
    http://www.nextiphonenews.com/2013/11/why-is-apple-inc-aapls-ios-7-update-destro ying-old-iphones/
I presume this is Apple's company policy to sell more units. Sadly I didn't intervene but I wish I knew now that it's a common problem and that Apple are deleting posts on here about it to cover up. This elderly woman's phone was 18months old, so even out of warranty it's with the scope of consumer law for a free replacement.
I hope posting this helps others out there who might be being told similar things.
...my 5s? Refund for me. It doesn't work at all. Worse than the iPhone 4 it replaces in every way.

Is there a technical support question in that conspiracy theory somewhere?

I'm trying to deploy Adobe Reader in my organization, but am wondering if the Reader for iOS app takes advantage of Apple's FIPS 140-2 compliant encryption module? I am aware that PDF doucments themselves can be encrypted upon completion, but am more curious as to whther the app itself is FIPS compliant.
    Thanks!

You'd want to ask in the Reader for iOS forum where there are people who use iOS and would better know.
