Egress queueing - priority-queues and queue-sets

If I use the priority-queue out command on an interface 3750 does this treat queue1 as the priority queue?
How can I tell which traffic is sent to each queue by default? Or do I have to specifically define it such as
mls qos srr-queue output dscp-map queue 1 threshold 3 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47
I really want dscp 40-47 to go priority and the rest to be spread evenly across the other 3 queues as the vast majority of the rest of the traffic will be 0. Is there a command that lets the other 3 queues be best effort?
Also, is this an OK config to use with priority-queueing? I don't actually want a large amount of bandwidth for the priority traffic, just for it to be expidited.
Queueset: 2
Queue : 1 2 3 4
buffers : 10 30 30 30
threshold1: 100 200 100 100
threshold2: 100 200 100 100
reserved : 50 50 50 50
maximum : 400 400 400 400
Any help very gratefully received.
Thanks, J

  • C2960: ingress priority-queue and CoS/DSCP mapping

I have read the C2960 manuals for a few times, but I don't seem to find an answer.
You can enable the priority queue on the ingress interface which has two available input queues for QoS-services.
What seems to be missing from the manuals is that how can I map/direct the traffic (CoS & DSCP values) to the priority queue?
I can map traffic to two other WRR (SRR) queues with command: "mls qos srr-queue input cos-map queue queue-id threshold threshold-id cos1...cos8", but there is nothing about the priority queue.
So is the CoS/DSCP values for the priority queue fixed or how/what traffic is directed to it?
    Thanks,
    Miska

What seems to be missing from the manuals is that how can I map/direct the traffic (CoS & DSCP values) to the priority queue?
A: By default, the priority queue is queue 2, and 10 percent of the bandwidth is allocated to it.
?For queue-id, the range is 1 to 2.
Map DSCP or CoS values to an ingress queue and to a threshold ID.
By default, DSCP values 0-39 and 48-63 are mapped to queue 1 and threshold 1. DSCP values 40-47 are mapped to queue 2 and threshold 1.
By default, CoS values 0-4, 6, and 7 are mapped to queue 1 and threshold 1. CoS value 5 is mapped to queue 2 and threshold 1.
?For queue-id, the range is 1 to 2.
?For threshold-id, the range is 1 to 3. The drop-threshold percentage for threshold 3 is predefined. It is set to the queue-full state.
?For dscp1...dscp8, enter up to eight values, and separate each value with a space. The range is 0 to 63.
?For cos1...cos8, enter up to eight values, and separate each value with a space. The range is 0 to 7.
What above is saying is queue 2 is priority queue, you can use the CoS/DSCP mapping to queue to move certain CoS?DSCP to either queue 1 or queue 2.
    A; See above.

  • Set up MQ interconnect log queue and MQ sequence/transaction id  queues?

Does the log queue and sequence queue get set up in standard MQ server install?
Can the log and sequence queue also point to the actual queue?
It looks like a standard MQ client only needs the channel and send queue (the actual queue that is the destination for inbound (to the MQ server) messages).
Whereas the oracle mq adapter requires 3 inbound queues; actual, log, and transaction id.
Any help/more documentation/additional install guides/tips would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

Yes you do. The log queue must be created on the MQ side and you specify it in your link set tup. Oracle requires that to guarantee "deliver once and only once" in case of errors. If you don't specify that, Oracle will warn you. It's easy for the MQ admin to create. Just ask them.

  • Adapter queues and thread allocation

I have browsed through the forums for Adapter threads and message queue related issues but still dont have complete clarity on this topic.
    Scenario-
Say i have only one file adapter interface in my XI box, an that file adapter is reading a 500 mb file and it has a pollling interval of 5mins, the file is not completely read within the first 5 mins.
    Question-
Now will the thread allocated to this adapter be alive and keep reading this file or will it be released when the next polling interval starts?
So what happens when the polling interval is exceeded?
(Assume there is no parallel processing)
will a new thread be allocated to the adapter ?
If yes will it start processing the file or will it wait until the completion of the first thread ?
According to the New Queueing Scheme in XI 3.0 SP19 / 7.0 SP11
a sender file adaper in sync mode has one queue assigned to it and Send.maxConsumers=5, say.
Consider a situation where i have 6 file adapters all reading 50mb files,
Will one of the file adapter threads will be blocked because all the 5 threads would be in use simultaneously?
If a large file is being read and is being written in the message queue all the other threads would have to wait till the file is fully read and will be in the blocked state right?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanx
    Siva

    Hi,
For each adapter there are four queues..
    File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/SystemCall
    File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/SystemRecv
    File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/SystemRqst
    File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/SystemSend
and each of the above queues will have threads assigned.(5 by default)
If these queue threads  are all busy at atime then the message status will be set in Waiting Status...
Once a message is read via Call queue ,data will be sent to Adapter engine Messaging System via Recv queue...
Similarly in recieving side data will be received from IE via Rqst and send to adapter via Send queue..if target system is busy i.e adapter thread is keep running and there are 6 instances of the same type then message status will be Waiting/To Be Delivered while the message status of processing messages will be Delivering.
So in your case data will be read via Call queue and passed on the Recv queue..which result in availability of queue ..even if set interval elapses..
Hope this gives you an insight

  • Tuxedo - Ave. Len and #Queued in psadmin for PeopleSoft

    Hi,
We set LDBAL = Y in psapsrv.ubx file and since then we started noticing queuing at Ave. Len and #Queued (see below).
    >
    pq
Prog Name Queue Name # Serve Wk Queued # Queued Ave. Len Machine
    PSSAMSRV SAMQ 1 0 0 0.0 uqa031
    JSL 00095.00200 1 0 0 0.0 uqa031

    JREPSVR 00094.00250 1 0 0 0.0 uqa031
    PSQCKSRV QCKQ 1 0 0 0.0 uqa031
If we set LDBAL to 'N', we would n't see any queqing at both Ave. Len and #Queued.
we had a look at PeopleSoft servrices using 'psr' and there are number of application server processes which are in 'IDLE' status and this confirms that there is n't actually any queing.
The following Oracle PeopleSoft support document (831594.1) does not recommend enabling LDBAL in PeopleSoft domains as it is not supported.
The reason that we enabled LDBAL is that to monitor queqing at Ave. Len and #Queued as we have reduced number of application server processes from 20 to 15, as at any given time only around 10 PSAPPSRV processes are actively being used (from psr). Hence we reduced number of processes to free up some system resources (memory and swap) as the additonal resouces that we freed up can be used by the remaining 15 PSAPPSRV processes.
The #Queued and Ave. Len does not show up any values if we do not set LDBAL to 'Y. FYI, we are PeopleTools 8.50.07.
Any ideas and clarification would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Raj

Can't tell much about the PeopleSoft configuration without the UBBCONFIG file. The tmunloadcf command should give one. What operating system is this for?
With reguards to queueing, the "ipcs -qa" command should give you an excellent snapshot of all of the IPC message queues and whether there are any messages on the queues. I prefer to use this approach with scripts to monitoring queueing.
With LDBAL=N, the "psr" command will show how many messages each server in the MSSQ set processed. The number of messages processes for each server in the MSSQ set is not equal but rather significantly unequal. The server with the fewest number of messages processed should have a significantly fewer number of messages processed than the other servers in the MSSQ set.

  • Backghround process queuing - and delays

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone could spare a little time to explain a couple of things to me please.
Each of our servers has a number of work processes, including, for example, 5 BKD sessions.
When a user submits a job to the background it sometimes sits there for ages in the queue with the delay (sec) amount steadily increasing - sometimes up to 4000 - 5000 seconds, even though there are completely free BKD sessions. The users often ask me what is happening to their job and I can't explain it.
As far as I know the submitted jobs are independent of any of the other runing jobs.
So I have 3 main questions please.
    1. Can you see if a particular job is submitted to a particular work process - and if you can , can you change this to a free one?
    2. Why do these delays happen? As far as I know there is no coding or planned scheduling like this.
    3. Why do some jobs get immediately set to a BKD work processes whereas others just sit there with the time delay building up?
I've tried using SAP Help to understand and I can't find any detailed explanation of how this works.
    Any help/explanation, much appreciated!!!
    Many thanks
    Mark Jeffery

    Hello Mark,
Most of the questions have been very well answered already however here are a few inputs from my side:
    1. Can you see if a particular job is submitted to a particular work process - and if you can , can you change this to a free one?
A job or a program will be assigned to a particular work process only when it gets started not when it is in delayed status. However there is a catch to it. Suppose you create a job will class B or C and it is going in delay and there are  processes available for class A jobs then you can change the priority of the job and then when back ground job scheduler runs next time it will consider this job with the new job class and and if at that point of time there are free processes reserved for class A jobs then it will start the job immediately  without any further delays.
    2. Why do these delays happen? As far as I know there is no coding or planned scheduling like this.
The reasons for the delay have been explained already by Kunal. But there is plan to the scheduling. You see there is some thing called background job scheduler that runs every minute (depends on profile parameter rdisp/btctime) which scans all the jobs waiting in the queue and then triggers the job on various parameters like available background work processes, job class, planned job run time etc.
    3. Why do some jobs get immediately set to a BKD work processes whereas others just sit there with the time delay building up?
As explained already scheduler works on certain paramerters.Basically delays will happen when the queue is very long.
To solve this you can either temporarily increase the number off BG work processes or reduce number of class A processes. it depends on situation at hand. From my personal experience I can say the best approach for avoiding these delays can be based on finding out what is causing the delays. Look at at entire queue of released and activve jobs in Sm37 and figure out what is causing the issue.
Additionally if you want to optimize back ground processing I would recommend implementing the suggestions of OSS note 923228. I had done it last year and it really helped us somewhat in achieving better performance. Actually delays can happen even if all the back ground processes are free since next lot of jobs won't get triggered unless batch scheduler does not run again. This OSS note will help you in averting such situations. very handy if you a long list of jobs which have a run time of few seconds.
    With Regards.

  • Jobs stay in queue and keep printing until you cancel them--then stops the print spooler...why?

    My Printer: HP Photosmart C309a
    My  Laptop: HP G71 series
Operating System: Windows 7 (64 bit) but runs a lot of stuff on 32 bit
Problem: I print ONE copy of a multiple page document in Adobe Reader 9. I select even pages only (after which I would reinsert the pages and tell it to print odd pages only, to get the other side). The printer makes a sound indicating the job is finished, I remove my pages to collate them, and then the printer continues to print the job again without so much as a keystroke.
Naturally, you find the printer in the devices on the control panel, click "see what's printing" and highlight the job and cancel it.
Then somehow it turns off my print spooler.
I have tried everything suggested on other forums, like
    restart the laptop/restart the printer
going to c\windows\system32\spool\printers and deleting whatever is hung up in there (usually a shockwave file).
Going to Services\print spooler \properties and making sure the settings are set to automatic
    Uninstall\reinstall latest driver and software
Switching from Adobe Reader 10 to Adobe Reader 9
Use System Restore to try to reset the system to a previous state.
Run Trend Micro to check for viruses and spyware--nothing shows up.
I am positive the pdf doc is NOT the problem, because I can print it on my husband's laptop multiple times over with no problems.
Does anyone have this problem as well? Has anyone found a genuine solution other than manually canceling print jobs in queue and constantly restarting the print spooler?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,
I believe your printer is wirelessly connected to your computer, right?!
What's the current printer software version installed in your laptop computer?!
to see: click start>control panel>uninstall a program under Programs then it will tell you the software version like HP Photosmart c309a v13 or v14.
If the software version is v13, click here to download and install the current software.
IF all things still fail, try to use the workaround provided by HP in this link. It says:
    Workaround
Your HP printing product can operate sufficiently using an alternate print driver, although there might be some limitations. For instance, some buttons on the product control panel might not function, but the product prints normally from the computer. If the solutions in this document do not solve the issue, download and install an alternate print driver.
Follow these steps to install the HP Deskjet 990C print driver.
NOTE:  These steps install the new print driver using the same port that the product already uses. The product functions normally with multiple drivers on the same port.
Find the port that the product already uses.
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel opens in a new window.
    Click Hardware and Sounds .
Click Printers . The Printers folder opens.
Right-click the product icon ( ), and then click Properties . The Propertieswindow opens.
Click the Ports tab. A window opens with a list of ports. The port for the product has a checkmark or a highlight.
Note the name of the port indicated for the product.
Close the Properties window, and then continue with the next steps.
Click Add a Printer in the menu bar at the top of the Printers window. The Windows Add Printer Wizard opens.
Click Add a local printer .
Select Use an existing Port .
Click the drop-down menu next to Use an existing Port , and then select the port that you noted earlier in these steps.
    Click Next .
In the Manufacturer pane, click HP .
In the Printers pane, click HP Deskjet 990c , and then click Next . (IF YOU CANT FIND DESKJET 990C, JUST CLICK WINDOWS UPDATE WITHIN THIS WINDOW. THEN FIND DESKJET 990C and then click next)
Type a name for the new printer in the Printer name box, or keep the default name.
Select Set as the default printer , and then click Next . A window opens with a progress bar as the printer installs. Then a new window opens.
Click Do not share this printer , and then click Next .
If you want to print a test page, click the Print test page button.
Click Finish to complete the driver installation.
Try printing again, but select HP Deskjet 990c from the Print dialog box.
If this solves the issue, follow these steps to use the HP Deskjet 990c print driver whenever you send print jobs to the product.
In the program you are using, select the option to print. The Print dialog box opens.
Click the Name drop-down menu, and then select HP Deskjet 990c .
Change print settings as desired in the Paper size , Quality , and Paper type drop-down menus.
Select the Print range and Copies options as desired.
Click OK . The product prints the file.

  • Is it possible to wait on a queue and on a notifier at the same time?

    Hi!
I am trying to implement an event-driven producer/consumer pattern with queues. The problem is that I have some value change events (e.g. coming from a slider) that I do not want to queue up; I want only the latest value change event to be processed by the consumer loop. This is because the consumer may spend longer time in executing (sometimes multiple seconds) and I want to prevent all intermediate slider events to be queued up in the meantime because I will finally write them to hardware. Therefore, a notifier would be better to use here than a queue. My question is if it is possible to make the same consumer loop wait on the queue as well as on the notifier at the same time? I will be wiring the VISA session and some other data through the consumer, so it want to avoid an extra loop that would wait on the notifier only. Or is there any other possible workaround?
    Thanks in advance.

crossrulz, many thanks for the code example and this is probably exactly what Mark suggested. Unfortunately, I do not really understand the logic behind it, i.e. why wait on the queue and then on the notifier?
It isn't really waiting on the notifier.  The wait is set to 0.  So if there is no new data in the notifier, instant timeout and skip the DAQ stuff.
The idea here is to send the set value (from the slider) through the notifier and send the command through the queue.  When the consumer loop gets the command, it will read the notifier for the latest data point and go to work.  Now if the user changes a bunch of stuff while a "long" acquisistion is happening, the notifier will keep being overwritten; it will only keep the last commanded value.  The queue will get multiple commands, but only the last value will be worked on due to the notifier.  The remaining commands will check the notifier, see that there's no new data, and skip to the next command.

  • Get data from a JMS XML queue and save it in a file

    Hi,
Here I come with my issue again.
I'm trying to test a JMS XML implementation with ODI 10.1.3.4.0 and my target is a single delimited file.
I made simple things, my XML contains the following code :
    +<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>+
    +<test><id>456</id><value>789</value></test>+
In the target file, I specified that I wanted a header line, the id and the value, separated by a tab.
I send only one message, before executing the ODI interface or package. The queue is persistant. There's no problem from the queue, I manage to read JMS messages with a little program I made.
The result is also simple : there's no data in the file (not even the header), though it's well created by ODI, and there's no error in the opertor, it's as everything went well.
Here is the settings I did in ODI :
Topology : JMS XML Queue config
    Name : JMSXML_TEST
    Technology : JMS XML Queue
I've a user and password set.
    JNDI Auth : simple
The user and password are the same as above.
    JNDI protocole : not defined
    JNDI Driver : org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
    JNDI URL : jnp://localhost:1099/?re=test&d=<DTD_FILE>&s=JMSXML_TEST_SCH&JMS_DESTINATION=queue/TestQueue1
    The connection test is OK.
    Model
The JMS XML model is reversed from the DTD.
There is only one datastore named TEST with an ID and VALUE columns, and other columns usefull to ODI.
The target is a file represented by a datastore also named TEST with ID and VALUE columns.
    Project
I created an interface with the following configurations :
    - The staging area is the sunopsis engine,
    - The source datastore and target datastore are the two described above,
    - The LKM is JMS XML to SQL, the IKM is SQL to File Append
    - The JMS_COMMIT option is set to yes
    - The SYNCHRO_JMS_TO_XML is set to yes
    - I added manually a NEXTMESSAGETIMEOUT in the options list because it was missing
    - The IKM settings are all set to yes (INSERT, TRUNCATE, GENERATE_HEADER).
I also created a package containing this interface.
Everything is done in the global context.
Everything is installed locally on my computer : the program sending the messages, the JMS provider and ODI.
The problem is I don't know where the problem is and neither ODI.
In the operator, there is 0 insert and the error code is 0.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

    Hi,
Since I still have problems on this subject, I would like to share on how it progresses.
Currently I have a problem of timeout in step "Truncate XML Schema" with the URL that I mentioned above.
The exact error is the following : 7000 : null : com.sunopsis.sql.l: Oracle Data Integrator TimeOut : connection with URL [...]
The connection test is still OK.
I tried to increase the value in the user's pref but there's no change.

    HELP URGENTLY NEEDED!
I'm not sure but I give it a try.Turn your security(WPA/WEP) and Firewall temporarely off. HOST is the IP address of the printer. QUEUE can be YES or a specific amount of prints, like 1,2,3......
If I look at the manual of your printer I see that you can find the IP and MAC addresses in the Network Configuration Report.I don't know what the USER is doing there because if there is a user then there must be a password.

  • Execute queue thread count set back?

I have a script which automatically sets up execute queues (and their thread counts) for either an admin server or two managed servers in a cluster (depending on whether it's a standalone deployment). Upon building a domain, the script connects to a temporary server and sets everything up, at this point it appears all the queues and thread counts are set correctly. However once the build has completed and the generated config.xml is checked, three queues don't have any thread counts associated with them at all; these queues are:
    ThreadQueue (Count)
    wli.internal.ProcessInstanceInfo (15)
    wli.internal.ProcessTracking (15)
    wli.process.event.thread.pool (15)
The other queues have all their thread counts set correctly. Does anybody know how these queues are used and if this will have an impact on the above problem?

No worries about this post, the reason has been solved.
    Reason
The default thread count for execute queues in development mode is 15 threads, therefore if a queue is specified with this value it won't be set in the config.xml (when an execute queue doesn't have a ThreadCount attribute, the default is used instead). The trouble is that when the server is started we enter production mode where the default thread count is 25 threads instead.

  • Can JMS topics and queues be clustered in a WLS 7.0 Cluster?

We are installing a weblogic 7.0 cluster with 1 admin server and 2 managed
node servers. Two nodes have been clustered. We are at the point where we
need to configure JMS. Has any one implemented JMS in WLS 7 clustered
environment? What are the things to watch out when clustering JMS? Can JMS
              topics and queues be clustered?
TIA for any helpful hints and comments.
              Regards

I'm currently working on a project with WLS 7 here at work, involving
the implementation of BEA's JMS Cluster. So far, I really haven't had
              many hiccups.

At least in WLS 7, the biggest thing that stands out is the lack of
automatic failover. Also, Message Paging -- make sure you configure
paging high/low thresholds. Or, if you don't wish for it to occur but
can't stop the server (very common these days with SLAs), set that
byte/message high threshold to a very large number (correct me if I'm
wrong, but I believe BEA recommends 2^63 -1).

              >> Can JMS topics and queues be clustered?
Well, since Topics and Queues are extensions of the
javax.jms.Destination interface, the answer is: Yes!
(SIDE NOTE: most people usually refer to them as a [JMS] "destination"
-- it avoids a lot of conceptual baggage and plus, less typing!)
You'll probably want to see this section of BEA's e-docs:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs70/adminguide/jms.html#config_distributed_destinations
