EJB Timer problem

Hi all, I'm trying to run the J2EE Tutorial EJB Timer sample, but I keep getting an exception:
Errors while obtaining information about the database. Got the following exception:
java.sql.SQLException: Error in allocating a connection. Cause:
Connection could not be allocated because: Connection does not exist.
com.sun.jdo.api.persistence.support.JDOFatalInternalException:
JDO76519: Failed to identify vendor type for the data store.
NestedException: java.sql.SQLException: Error in allocating a connection.
Cause: Connection could not be allocated because: Connection does not exist. .The tutorial says that I should start the PointBase database first, and I did; but there seems to be something missing, like the server is trying to lookup some datasource and it can't find it.
Any ideas?

Hi ,,

  • "Singleton" EJB Timer in GlassFish 2.1 cluster?

    Hi,
    suppose on a GlassFish 2.1 cluster (two instances on one machine) you deploy an ejb app which contains an ejb timer. The ejb timer executes every 60 seconds.
    Following questions come to my mind:
    1. After deployment do you have (the same) ejb timer on each instance (both using the same connection pool) ?
    2. If so, how it is guaranteed that every 60 seconds only one timer is executed?
    3. Is it possible to have a "singleton" timer for all instances in a cluster?
    Thx for your help.

    EJB 3.0 only supports programmatic timer creation. The app can contain an enterprise bean component that supports timer callbacks (a "timed object" in spec parlance) , but the actual timers can only be created by calling TimerService.createTimer(). Given that :
    1. There is no automatic timer creation as a result of deployment. Some developers approximate automatic timer creation
    by calling a stateless session bean method from a web application initialization callback, but from the ejb container's perspective
    that's just a normal run-time timer creation. In all cases you'll have as many timers as the number of times TimerService.createTimer() was called.
    2. In a cluster, for each unique timer, each timer timeout callback will happen in only one server instance in the cluster. We do that
    by using the underlying timer database and an ownership semantic that assigns each timer to a particular server instance. During
    failover, ownership of timers owned by the failed server instance is reassigned to a healthy server instance. Note that this only applies
    to timeout callbacks. All timers created by a bean are always visible to any instances of that bean in any server instance in the cluster.
    In other words, getTimers() always returns the total number of timers associated with the bean component, even if the callbacks
    happen in a different server instance in the cluster.
    3. Each call to TimerService.createTimer() is unique across the cluster. However, the burden of ensuring that createTimer() is only
    called once is on the application. EJB 3.1 will address this problem by adding "automatic timers". These are timers that are
    specified via metadata (annotation or ejb-jar.xml) and are created automatically as a result of deployment.

  • Stateless Bean - scope of instance variable in EJB Timer call back function

    Hi,
    I would like to know on the scope of an instance variable of a Stateless Bean object,
    when used in a EJB Timer call back.Let me explain this in more detail below.
    I have a requirement to use a EJB Timer.
    For this, I have created a stateless object since Timer creation needs to be done
    from a stateless bean. I have a member variable "count" of the stateless bean class.
    In the timer call back(ejbTimeout), I am able to use this count variable during
    each time of the call back, and the value of this variable is also updated properly.
    I have a few queries with respect to the above behaviour:
    1) Does stateless bean object not get destroyed once the Timer is created from the Bean?
    2) If the Bean object is not destroyed, then when does the bean object get destroyed?
    3) If both (1) and (2) are not true, then can anyone explain on how the above behaviour is possible?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ulrich

    Hi Ulrich,
    The ejb timer is associated with the stateless session bean component, not with a particular bean instance. There is no formal relationship between the bean instance that called createTimer() and the bean instance on which the timer callback happens. If they're the same in your test run that's just a coincidence and not something your application should be depending on.
    In the stateless session bean model, the container can create and destroy stateless session bean instances at any time. The container is free to pick any stateless session bean instance to service any client invocation or timer callback. If you need to pass context into a timer callback, one way to do it is via the timer "info" object. However, the info object is immutable so it wouldn't be a good match for a counter. You could of course always just use a database for any necessary coordinated state.

  • X301 post BIOS / Model Number update System Time problems

    Dear community,
      I recently updated my BIOS using the thinkvantage flash BIOS utility for no reason other than it appeared on the update utility. I also updated the model number, once again for no real reason other than update pleasure. Now, everything works perfectly fine on the system, and I have no problems EXCEPT:
    I use New York Times Adobe Air product called "Times Reader". Since the update, when I try to log into the Times Reader I get an error that states "Authentication Error. Check that your system time is set correctly." In the pre-boot set up screen the time seems to be set right, and in the windows utility the time is set correctly. So my questions is,
     after a BIOS flash / Model # update, does the system time function need some re-boot / update?
    Thanks!

    Well I still dunno what the problem was.  It seemed as if the system would have to be running for a day or two before it would start to speed up, as if it was actually gaining a few milliseconds cumulatively every second...
    Anyway, through other testing (OC & such) I flashed to 1.5B5 and it is running pretty good, and seems to have fixed the time problem.
    On a side note, 1.5B5 is the first BIOS that actually makes Cool 'N Quiet work (to underclock to 1GHz at idle & dynamically OC when needed).
    If anyone has experienced this time issue, please post findings!  For now, it's fixed for me, so I'm not going to worry about it

  • EJB Timer Services - timeout overlapping

    Hi,
    I have this question:
    What should happen if the @Timeout method spends more time in working
    something than the timer expiration time?
    For example:
    EJB timer is created with interval (expiration time) every 3 minutes. But for some reason the EJB binded to this timer is spending 4 minutes to process a timer notification. What happens with the next incoming timer notification?
    Is it skipped or blocked? What happens with the method annotated as @Timeout?
    Thanks!

    Hi Fellipe,
    This case isn't explicitly mentioned in the spec since the expectation is that the processing
    time for the timeout would be much shorter than the interval itself. The design center for the
    EJB Timer Service is to handle long-lived business processes so the spec examples for
    timeouts are on the order of hours or days, even though the actual type in the API is
    milliseconds. Many developers have expressed interest in support for finer-grained
    timeouts and even cron-like functionality. The issue you raise would be an important one
    to address in the scope of those EJB Timer Service additions.
    Having said all that, the implementation in the Java EE SDK will not deliver a subsequent
    timeout for the same timer until the previous one has completed.

  • Window 2008 R2 datacentre server time problem

    Hi Team,
    I have one window 2008 R2 data centre server, which having time problem, I have setted IST time zone but time coming 15 minute delay, I have tried to correct time by manual but time goes again 15 minute delay itself.
    Please guide how to solve it and but i don't want to use NTP, as this server is on workgroup.
    Regards
    Inder Singh Rawat

    Hi ,
    I followed following step to build NTP in window server 2008 R2.
    Enabling & Configuring NTP Server
    1. Change the server type to NTP.
    Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\Type
    In the pane on the right, right-click Type, and then click Modify. In Edit Value, type NTP in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    2. Set AnnounceFlags to 5.
    Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config\AnnounceFlags
     In the pane on the right, right-click AnnounceFlags, and then click Modify. In Edit DWORD Value, type 5 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    3. Enable NTPServer.
    Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer
     In the pane on the right, right-click Enabled, and then click Modify .In Edit DWORD Value, type 1 in
    the Value data box, and then click OK
    4. Specify the time sources.
    Open a command prompt and type the command as below: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:peers /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
    peers: time.windows.com or time.nist.gov
    eg: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:time.windows.com /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
    5. At the command prompt, type the following command to restart the Windows Time service, and then press Enter:
    net stop w32time
    net start w32time
    i run following useful command.
    1. To resynchronize time : w32tm /resync  or w32tm /resync /rediscover
    2. To verify the configuartion : w32tm /query /configuration and w32tm /query /status
    3. Display the current time zone settings : w32tm /tz
    Now what problem i am facing , when server goes restart "Window time service stoped" and ntp corrupted.
    Even Window time service is set automatically, when i do configure again then NTP work proper.
    Please help how to resolve this problem, if server restart NTP goes corrupted becuase of window time service stopped.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Occasional time problems?

    i have my iphone set to automatically set the date and time. a few times since i've had it, the time is ahead one full hour...it seems to happen when the phone is shut down then turn back on, but i think one time it had the wrong time after being left on standby. any thoughts? is this an AT&T issue? i can't think of anything that could be wrong with the phone (or phone setting) which could contribute to this, since i'm chosing the automatic option for setting the time. small issue i know...just curious.

    I have had a weird time problem also. The other night my husband was snoring and I couldn't get to sleep so I decided to get up and go into one of the other bedrooms. There is no alarm there, so I opted to use the alarm function on my iPhone to give me a wake up call. I set the alarm for 5am and sure enough, at 5am the alarm went off as expected. I went to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee and noticed the clock on the coffee maker said 5:11am. I looked at my iPhone and it said 5:01am. I then looked at my atomic clock and also the one on the cable box, both of which should be correct, and they both agreed with the coffee maker - now 5:12 while the iPhone said 5:02. I have the iPhone set to automatically update the time. Being in a rush to get ready for work, I did nothing about setting the time on the iPhone and decided I would reset it later. When I got to work, I remembered the time was off on the iPhone and decided to reset it, but when I looked it was now synced back to the correct time! I don't know if this was an iPhone, ATT issue or what, but I won't be depending soley on the iPhone alarm to get me up on time again. I haven't used the iPhone alarm since then so don't know if it is reproducable. Anyone else run across this problem?

  • EJB 3 Problem: "Collections having FK in secondary table"

    Hi,
    working with EJB 3 first time, i have to develop my entites by a DB scheme. It is very complex and now I have the problem using composite FK / PK in many tables, so that a refenrenced key has as the same time both properties: FK / PK.

    Lxx:={M_ID as PK / FK from Mxx},
    Zxx:={M_ID as PK/FK from Lxx}+

    Thanks, for your reply the problem was with the classpath, even though it appears that the ant script points to it I had to set it in the environment.

  • JSP/EJB sample-problem

    Hi,
    I'm having difficulties to get the Oracle JSP sample to wrok.
    I deployed the JSP App and also the StackDemo app and changed the envrionment variables as requested .
    But each time I try to use the DemoStack bean by submitting a 'create stack' I get the message :
    "The requested access method is not allowed for that object"
    Can anybody help me with this problem?
    Michel.

    Alex,
    I use OAS 4.0.8.1.
    I also reloaded the application after deployment.
    I used a clinet snippet that is compiled in JDevelope 3.0 and I run it from there .
    It finds THE EJB , ic reated and deployed without giving any error messages. The problem rises the moment I try to use one of the functions of the remote interface of the EJB. In these functions I try to use functionality of viewObjects that are provided by a bussines component that I generated using JDeveloper 3.0.
    The wrb log file mentions a 'null pointer exeption'.
    I think that I do something wrong when initializing the application module that wraps the business component, but I can't see what is wrong.
    This is the code I use in my EJB :
    String theAM = "EDMpackage.EDMAppModule";
    ApplicationModule root = null;
    String sessionDefName = ApplicationModule.DEFAULT_DEF_FULL_NAME;
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable(2);
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, JboContext.JBO_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
    env.put(JboContext.DEPLOY_PLATFORM, JboContext.PLATFORM_LOCAL);
    try
    Context ic = new InitialContext(env);
    ApplicationModuleHome home = (ApplicationModuleHome)ic.lookup(sessionDefName);
    root = home.create();
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    localAppMod = root.createApplicationModule( "EDMAppMod",theAM );
    This works fine , but when I try to get a ViewObject through the localAppMod, I get the error. So I think I am wrong somewhere here.
    Michel.

  • EJB + CORBA problems

    Hi there,
    I've got some code (EJB) which connect
    me to OLAPService on my 9i Oracle server. I deployed it to Oracle AS which
    is istalled on another machine. Then I wrote client application which has to
    connect to OAS and invoke EJB method to connect to OLAPService.
    The connection to EJB was successfully established (of course through a
    CORBA). But when EJB was trying to connect to Oracle9i I got such error :
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException:
    sess_iiop://<server_ip>:<port>:<sid>/etc/OLAPServer/OLAPServer not found
    I think it something wrong with my OAS enviroment. I have tried to do my best , but still nothing .... ( I am sure that everything else is OK, because I tried to make connection through
    JDBC to relational database and it worked fine).
    When I'm starting EJB's code as client application everything is OK. The
    connection to OLAPService is established every time. When I modyfied code
    for EJB (commenting code responsible for preparing InitailContextEnviroment
    and connecting to OLAPService) everything was OK. So :
    1) I can connect and invoke EJB's method deployed to OAS,
    2) I can connect to Oracle9i OLAPService and use OLAPAPI methods,
    3) I can't do it when I try to connect to OLAPService through the OAS (where
    is EJB)
    client_application (java) ===CORBA===> OAS ( EJB with OLAPAPI) ==CORBA==>
    OLAPService
    This is the EJB's method code ( when it is calling as client application it
    works!!!!):
    import javax.ejb.SessionBean;
    import javax.ejb.SessionContext;
    import org.omg.CORBA.Object;
    import oracle.aurora.jndi.sess_iiop.ServiceCtx;
    import oracle.express.connection.Connection;
    import oracle.express.connection.ConnectionManager;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import java.util.*;
    public String Polaczenie()
    String serviceURL="sess_iiop://<server_ip>:<port>:<sid>";
    String objectName="/etc/OLAPServer/OLAPServer";
    Hashtable env=new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.URL_PKG_PREFIXES,"oracle.aurora.jndi");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL,<user>);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS,<password>);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION,ServiceCtx.NON_SSL_LOGIN);
    try
    Context ic=new InitialContext(env);
    org.omg.CORBA.Object
    ServiceStub=(org.omg.CORBA.Object)(ic.lookup(serviceURL+objectName));
    Properties connParams = new Properties();
    connParams.put("UserID",<user>);
    connParams.put("Password",<password>);
    ConnectionManager cm=ConnectionManager.init();
    Connection conn=
    cm.connect((org.omg.CORBA.Object)ServiceStub,connParams);
    conn.close();
    catch(Exception e)
    return "\nError:" + e + "\n";
    return "\nIt works\n";
    This is client's code:
    public static void main(String[] args)
    try {
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
    "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://sasza/SerwerEjb");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "admin");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "oracle");
    Context context = new
    com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory().getInitialContext(env);
    Object homeObject = context.lookup("<myEJBName>");
    SerwerEjbHome home = (SerwerEjbHome)
    PortableRemoteObject.narrow(homeObject, pakiet.SerwerEjbHome.class);
    SerwerEjb remote = home.create();
    System.out.println(remote.Polaczenie()); <------------------ there is
    error !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------>
    catch(Exception e)
    System.err.println("Error: " + e + ":::" + e.getMessage());
    Any idea ??
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks for your concern !Its my code - I should be concerned :)
    I have successfuly tested the sample program that you attached.
    and I have some more questions.Great!
    Q1) Can I use idl files generated by weblogic.ejbc on the other ORB like as
    orbix, etc..?Yes. But the problem is that Orbix is known to have problems with the
    codeset that we send out. For silversword we are doing a GIOP 1.2
    implementation a by-product of which will be that we have to do some
    form of codeset negotiation, so hopefully these issues will be sorted
    in the near future.
    And I know that the Client.cpp program you sent differs from original source
    code in the respects which is including TradeResultFactory and
    TradeResultImpl classes.
    Q2) If so, Do i have to implement the above classes for all of call by value
    parameters or return type ?You have to write some C++ code for any valuetypes that you use. This
    basically means any non-primitive object that is not a remote
    interface and implements serializable.
    I wanna know for the needed classes how to easily get generated or the other
    solutions.I attach the entity bean example I cooked up which shows you how you
    can use C++ macros to take away some of this pain. Note that you cannot make the finder method work with 6.0SP2. This will be fixed in 6.1

    I got error message following as, when i used "-idlFactories" of
    weblogic.ejbc option to generate Factory definition.
    Usage: java weblogic.rmic [options] <classes>...

    rmic. The attached class file should fix this.
