EJBs with .ejb extension

Please let me know when/how/where can i have EJBs with .ejb extension?

It's a Weblogic thing. The tool mentioned in the linked post, EJBgen, is similar to XDoclet in that you use special annotations in a single file that is parsed to generate all of the EJB interfaces. The .ejb suffix is commonly used for these files.

  • Bean-managed transaction with EJB 3.0

    Hi,
    I try to get a bean-managed transaction example running with EJB 3.0 under GlassFish v2ur2.
    In order to demarcate the scenario I have to get me the UserTransaction which I get from the SessionContext. I would like to use it then like: UserTransaction ut = context.getUserTransaction();
    I tried to get the SessionContext with the help of the EJB method setSessionContext which should be called by the container after instance creation.
    However, setting a log output into that method does not show any call of this method.
    So, how can I get this method called or is there another way to get the SessionContext for the UserTransaction to work ?
    Are there any good and fully implemented examples for bean-managed transactions ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards

    I found the solution for that my SessionContext was NULL and I could not use the UserTransaction.
    The reason for it is that I injected the EJB with @EJB into my servlet and did a MyBean mybean = new MyBean();
    That leads to a SessionContext which is NULL within my EJB.
    If I use it without instantiating it it works fine.
    Again, thanks for your help. At least it pointed me into the right direction.
    Regards

  • Files with .ejb extension

    Hi,
    I am using the <javadoc> task in an Ant build file. I have several EJB files with th extension .ejb that I want to have included in my javadocs.
    I have the following code:
    <target name="javadoc" description="Build Java Documentation">
            <javadoc destdir="${doc.dir}">
                    <fileset dir="src">
                            <include name="**/*.ejb" />
                    </fileset>
            </javadoc>
    </target>However, when I run this I get the following error:
    [javadoc] javadoc: Illegal package name: "C:\src\com\test\ejb\CommandInputEJB.ejb"I do need the .ejb file extension for another tool to work (Ejbgen). Is there a way to get this working?
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi Arjun
    I'm still learning all of this myself with Ant, but looking at your script, it does not appear to be complete. I understand that you need to have certain tags included. The Ant task documentation gives good information, but in brief, in the list of parameters, the required options are indicated. Your script as a minimum, must include either '<b>sourcepath</b>', '<b>sourcepatheref</b>', or '<b>sourcefiles</b>' and you then must include '<d>destdir</b>' (which you already use).
    You can find the documentation here:
    http://ant.apache.org/manual/CoreTasks/javadoc.html
    I have never included external files such as the EJB ones you are using, but I have written my own script for generating JavaDoc HTML output. Feel free to use it if it helps.
    It uses an external file for the package list (sourcepath), called from the property:
    <i> <property name="JDOCSOURCELIST" value="JDOCSourceList.properties" /> </i>
    This is the same as the -sourcepath option of the standard JavaDoc docelt. It is formatted:
    <code>
    com.supersaus.server
    com.supersaus.server.factories
    \\\\S5\\Documentation\\com\\supersaus\\common\\Association.java
    \\\\S5\\Documentation\\com\\supersaus\\common\\CData.java
    </code>
    Other properties used in the script are:
    <code>
    <property name="JDOCDIRECTORY" value="JavaDocOutput" />
    <property name="SOURCECODEROOT" value="\\\\S5\\Documentation" />
    <property name="STYLESHEET" value="./stylesheet.css" />
    <property name="BOTTOM" value="Supersaus 2004" />
    <property name="DOCTITLE" value="Supersaus Common Files" />
    <property name="LINK" value="http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api" />
    <property name="OVERVIEW" value="doc-files\\Saus_Overview.htm" />
    </code>
    The main ant target is built up as follows:
    <code>
    <!-- Generate the JavaDoc HTML. -->
    <target name="BuildJavaDoc">
    <splash/> <!-- Add Ant progress bar -->
    <echo message="Please wait whilst the document is generated into the folder ${JDOCDIRECTORY}" />
         <!-- call javadoc -->
         <javadoc destdir="${JDOCDIRECTORY}"
         sourcePath="${SOURCECODEROOT}"
              packageList="${JDOCSOURCELIST}"
              maxmemory="180M"
              stylesheetfile="${STYLESHEET}"
              bottom="${BOTTOM}"
              Doctitle="${DOCTITLE}"
              Windowtitle="${DOCTITLE}"
              Overview="${OVERVIEW}" >
              <Link href="${LINK}"/>
         </javadoc>
    </target>
    </code>
    Hope all this helps?
    Best wishes and good luck

  • Using EJB with Hibernate on Weblogic Server ADF platform

    Hi all,
    We use Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 and WLS 10.3
    I tried to use Hibernate on my project according to this link well, EJB with Hibernate On Weblogic
    I wanto use Hibernate tool because toplink and eclipselink can not achieve the issue about generating update* ddl on schema, they can just only re-create the tables -not real update.
    Firstly i got the related jars from internet: http://www.2hotfile.com/di-LSBU.png
    cglib-2.2
    antlr-2.7.6
    commons-collections-3.1
    dom4j-1.6.1
    hibernate3
    hibernate-validator-4.1.0.Final
    javassist-3.9.0.GA
    jta-1.1
    slf4j-api-1.5.11
    slf4j-nop-1.5.11
    Then i added to model project as library dependencies: http://www.2hotfile.com/di-GMSZ.png
    configured persistence.xml as below:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?>
    <persistence xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_2_0.xsd"
    version="1.0">
    <persistence-unit name="VakkoEJBModel" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL">
    <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider>
    <jta-data-source>jdbc/VakkoDS</jta-data-source>
    <properties>
    <property name="hibernate.jndi.url" value="t3://127.0.0.1:7001" />
    <property name="hibernate.connection.datasource" value="jdbc/VakkoDS" />
    <property name="hibernate.transaction.manager_lookup_class" value="org.hibernate.transaction.WeblogicTransactionManagerLookup" />
    <property name="hibernate.dialect" value="org.hibernate.dialect.Oracle10gDialect" />
    <property name="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto" value="update" />
    <property name="hibernate.current_session_context_class" value="jta" />
    </properties>
    </persistence-unit>
    </persistence>

    </weblogic-ejb-jar>
    ejb-jar.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?>
    <ejb-jar/>
    And i added to setDomainEnv.cmd that line:
    set EXT_PRE_CLASSPATH=C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\antlr-2.7.6.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\commons-collections-3.1.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\dom4j-1.6.1.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\hibernate3.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\javassist-3.9.0.GA.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\jta-1.1.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\slf4j-api-1.5.11.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\slf4j-nop-1.5.11.jar;C:\jarlar\hibernate-3.3.2\bytecode\cglib\cglib-2.2.jar;C:\Oracle\Middleware_11.1.1.4\modules\ejb3-persistence-3.3.1.jar;hibernate-validator-4.1.0.Final.jar;

    @REM WARNING: This file is created by the Configuration Wizard.
    @REM Any changes to this script may be lost when adding extensions to this configuration.
    @REM *************************************************************************
    @REM This script is used to setup the needed environment to be able to start Weblogic Server in this domain.
    @REM
    @REM This script initializes the following variables before calling commEnv to set other variables:
    @REM
    @REM WL_HOME - The BEA home directory of your WebLogic installation.
    @REM JAVA_VM - The desired Java VM to use. You can set this environment variable before calling
    @REM this script to switch between Sun or BEA or just have the default be set.
    @REM JAVA_HOME - Location of the version of Java used to start WebLogic
    @REM Server. Depends directly on which JAVA_VM value is set by default or by the environment.
    @REM USER_MEM_ARGS - The variable to override the standard memory arguments
    @REM passed to java.
    @REM PRODUCTION_MODE - The variable that determines whether Weblogic Server is started in production mode.
    @REM DOMAIN_PRODUCTION_MODE
    @REM - The variable that determines whether the workshop related settings like the debugger,
    @REM testconsole or iterativedev should be enabled. ONLY settable using the
    @REM command-line parameter named production
    @REM NOTE: Specifying the production command-line param will force
    @REM the server to start in production mode.
    @REM
    @REM Other variables used in this script include:
    @REM SERVER_NAME - Name of the weblogic server.
    @REM JAVA_OPTIONS - Java command-line options for running the server. (These
    @REM will be tagged on to the end of the JAVA_VM and
    @REM MEM_ARGS)
    @REM

    =JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException, msg=MySessionEJB not found
    Seems like the jndi properties is ignored during the Context creation for lookup.
    Please advice where I'm missing the configuration.

  • Desgin issue, Servlets with EJBs in real life?

    When designing a web application with WLS and has anyone made extensive use
    of EJBs with Servlets/JSP.
    Servlets and JSPs are pretty much a must for the web-app, but are EJBs
    really so?. Correct me if I am wrong, the reason that we would wanna use
    EJBs (especially I am talking about session EJBs), within servlets
    is the fact that they are transactional (so you don't implement transaction
    logic in your code), or their being clusterable, thus higher availability by
    failovers, etc, ,
    They are not faster than standard Java, actually.
    by using EJBs in our design we're not gonna gain that much of a speed and
    our development time is gonna be longer (well, if designed well, EJBs might
    be good candidates for reusability),
    instead they are gonna give us higher reliability and availability, along
    with a cost of rather slower
    responses.
    I'll post an explanation of the simle load tests that I have done on the WLS
    with two different architectures,
    namely Servlet + Std. Java & Servlet + Stateless EJB, shortly
    Any comments appreciated,
    thanks,
    ali.

    EJBs are a tool in your arsenal. Just like Servlets -- you don't hear
    developers suggesting that you avoid Servlets/JSPs and just handle port 80
    directly in your own code!
    Yes, they are transactional objects for Java. Half the time they are a pain
    in the a** but they are better than everyone making up their own standard.
    They are not faster than standard Java, actually.They are standard Java, so they are not faster. Since the container either
    gens code or uses reflection or both to run them, they are typically a bit
    slower than doing direct JDBC (for example) in your servlets. Also, it is
    easy to get very bad performance if you don't realize how many database
    operations a set of ejb invokes can be.
    All in all, once you know EJBs you will probably want to use them, because
    they get the job done and are pretty efficient when built correctly. Until
    then, they will seem like a pain, largely because they are ;-)

    When designing a web application with WLS and has anyone made extensiveuse
    of EJBs with Servlets/JSP.
    Servlets and JSPs are pretty much a must for the web-app, but are EJBs
    really so?. Correct me if I am wrong, the reason that we would wanna use
    EJBs (especially I am talking about session EJBs), within servlets
    is the fact that they are transactional (so you don't implementtransaction
    logic in your code), or their being clusterable, thus higher availabilityby
    failovers, etc, ,
    They are not faster than standard Java, actually.
    by using EJBs in our design we're not gonna gain that much of a speed and
    our development time is gonna be longer (well, if designed well, EJBsmight
    be good candidates for reusability),
    instead they are gonna give us higher reliability and availability, along
    with a cost of rather slower
    responses.
    I'll post an explanation of the simle load tests that I have done on theWLS
    with two different architectures,
    namely Servlet + Std. Java & Servlet + Stateless EJB, shortly
    Any comments appreciated,
    thanks,
    ali.

    Regards,

    Unfortunately there's not really enough information for anyone to help you much. I can tell you've hit an EOF Exception, but that's about it.
    What exactly do you mean by a heavyweight object parameter? Do you mean a large (in memory size) object?
    Without any knowledge of your application, I'd probably start by changing your ejb method to do nothing. That should tell you at least whether it's the serialization of the parameter that's the issue or not. Narrow it down from there.
    If you need more help, printing the entire stack trace of the EOFException and posting it here would be helpful.

  • Problems using JAAS with EJB 3.0 on JBoss 4.0.4-GA

    Hello all,
    I am trying to build a very simple JavaEE application with JAAS, but I getting mad.
    I have an EAR packed with a WAR module an EJB JAR module and a JAR with other classes. Struts is the MVC framework and EJB 3.0 is been used.
    First of all, I configured the "login-config.xml" file within /conf directory in JBoss, like this:
    <application-policy name="exemplo1">
         <authentication>
              <login-module code="org.jboss.security.auth.spi.DatabaseServerLoginModule" flag="required">
                   <module-option name="dsJndiName">java:jdbc/Infra_Seguranca</module-option>
                   <module-option name="principalsQuery">SELECT COD_USUARIO AS Password FROM USUARIO WHERE COD_USUARIO=?</module-option>
                   <module-option name="rolesQuery">SELECT NOME_ROLE AS Roles, 'Roles' AS RoleGroups FROM ROLE_USUARIO WHERE COD_USUARIO=?</module-option>
              </login-module>
         </authentication>
    </application-policy>Next I configured the "web.xml" file like this:
    <security-constraint>
         <web-resource-collection>
              <web-resource-name>Restricted</web-resource-name>
              <description>Declarative security tests</description>
              <url-pattern>*.do</url-pattern>
         </web-resource-collection>
         <auth-constraint>
              <role-name>xxx</role-name>
         </auth-constraint>
         <user-data-constraint>
              <description>no description</description>
              <transport-guarantee>NONE</transport-guarantee>
         </user-data-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
         <auth-method>FORM</auth-method>
         <realm-name>exemplo1</realm-name>
         <form-login-config>
              <form-login-page>/login.jsp</form-login-page>
              <form-error-page>/loginErro.jsp</form-error-page>
         </form-login-config>
    </login-config>
    <security-role>
         <description>Role xxx</description>
         <role-name>xxx</role-name>
    </security-role>Notice that I am using the "xxx" role to protect the "*.do" URL pattern.
    The "jboss-web.xml" is like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <jboss-web>
         <security-domain>java:/jaas/exemplo1</security-domain>
    </jboss-web>As it is, it works perfectly, which means, every time I try to access a "*.do" URL it verifies whether I am authenticated and have authroization or not. If not, the login page shows up.
    Now I wanna to be able to also protect my EJBs.
    My Stateless Session Bean is implemented as follow:
    @RolesAllowed("yyy")
    @Stateless(name="UserManagement")
    public class UserManagementBean implements UserManagement {
         public void add(User user) {
    }When I run all this, the container simply igoners the @RolesAllowed("yyy") annotation and allow the EJB execution.
    If I add the "jboss.xml" file, like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <jboss>
         <security-domain>java:/jaas/exemplo1</security-domain>
    </jboss>I start getting this stack trace:
    ERROR [UsersRolesLoginModule] Failed to load users/passwords/role files
    java.io.IOException: No properties file: users.properties or defaults: defaultUsers.properties found

    at org.jboss.security.auth.spi.UsersRolesLoginModule.initialize(UsersRolesLoginModule.java:127)
    at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method)
    ... Am I missing something? What do I have to do to get JAAS working fine with my EJBs? Do I have to also configure and/or provide "ejb-jar.xml" ???
    Thanks
    Daniel

    Using @SecurityDomain("exemplo1") in my EJB and NOT providing jboss.xml, it works.
    @SecurityDomain("exemplo1")
    @RolesAllowed("yyy")
    @Stateless(name="UserManagement")
    public class UserManagementBean implements UserManagement {
      public void add(User user) {
    }Damn! This is some serious shit... I dont want to configure this in every single EJB.
    EJB 3.0 is nice, but some small trivial details like this and others, that was forgotten by Sun, piss me off!

  • How to use ADF Query search with EJB 3.0

    Hi,
    In ADF guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/b31974/web_search_bc.htm#CIHIJABA
    The steps to create query search with ADF Business Components says:
    "+From the Data Controls panel, select the data collection and expand the Named Criteria node to display a list of named view criteria.+"
    But with EJB, I'm not able to find Named Criteria node. Can we use ADF query search component with EJB? If yes, can you please show me some example, tutorial etc.?
    Thanks
    BJ

    For EJBs you'll need to implement the query model on your own.
    An example of how the model should look like is in the ADF Faces components demo.
    http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/query.jspx
    Code here:

  • Invoking Session EJB (with WSIF binding) from a BPEL process

    Hi,
    I am invoking a stateless session bean from a bpel process. The bpel process is throwing:
    Failed to lookup EJB home using JNDI name 'ejb/visilient/BPELHelper'; nested exception is:
         java.lang.NullPointerException
    I can see the ejb jndi name under 'default' app.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

    It is a lovely sample... However, it doesn't cover Complex Types and Exception handling. It would be nice if each example was thorough. Would be a great help.
    What I was hoping to achieve is this:
    1) Have an EJB deployed
    2) Use WSIF for BPEL Processes.
    3) Use Web Service interface for AJAX calls etc.
    I was hoping that this would be the exact code base and that only a single EJB would be deployed.
    So far, it looks like JDeveloper will only support Java WSIF bindings. No EJB Bindings. It also looks like JAXRPC is the best supported WS interface. With that in mind, it deploys a seperate subset of the EJB. Thus causing two seperate deployments. I am working on trying all this out over the next couple days. See where I get.
    Anyways, do you have any recommendation for accomplishing what I am wanting to do? 1 deployed EJB, with a WS interface and allowing WSIF bindings. Any other references for me to look at? Should I not be thinking about using JDeveloper for any of the WSDL generation and do all this manually for now?
    Thanks,

  • EJB with JAVA 2 and 8i 8.1.5

    Hello,
    we have a problem with EJB , JDeveloper 3 and 8i (8.1.5). The FAQ states, that the client JDK must be 1.16 and the with the ORALCE 8i classes are only runnable under this JDK. When we want to use JDK 2 we need to use 8i Version 8.1.6.
    How can we get the ORACLE 8i 8.1.6 client classes, without downloading the whole 8i 8.1.6 ORACLE Server? Is there any ftp server with only the client classes on it? Can anybody help?
    Thankx in advance
    Sven

    mtomlins: No - why should it not make sense to have JDK 1.2 only on the client?! The JServer FAQ says this works, if you have the 8.1.6 client classes. On the 8.1.5 server you can use only JDK 1.1, of course.

  • Deploying EJB with Local Interfaces.

    HI everybody
    I am trying example on EJB with LocalInterfaces with BMP.
    My bean without Local interface is deployed and working fine.
    Then i have changed Home & Remote interface code. Again i have deployed it . It is deployed but i am unable to Look Up.
    I am using J2SDKEE1.3 server & JDK1.3.
    I have changed both interface files as follow:-
    I have made my Home interface as :
    public interface RetrieveConditionHome extends javax.ejb.EJBLocalHome {
         public RetrieveCondition create(String SQL_WHERE_ID, String SQL_WHERE_NAME,
              String FROM_TABLE , String WHERE_CLAUSE , String LAST_UPD_USER_ID ,
              Date LAST_UPD_TMSTMP, int ROW_VERSION)
              throws CreateException;
    I have made my Remote interface as :
    public interface RetrieveCondition extends javax.ejb.EJBLocalObject {
         public String getSQLWHERENAME() ;
    -Viren

    In JMS tutorial : They have stated ejbCreateLocal method.
    I am not using this method in my Bean class. I am using general ejbCreate method as we normally do .
    I am really confused about these methods : ejbCreate & ejbCreateLocal.

  • Oracle10g Jdbc Drivers issue with EJB on Weblogic 7

    Hi there,
    We are facing a critical issue on production environment related to Oracle jdbc drivers.
    We have a J2EE application with swing client. We are using MVC framework where client calls go to stateless session bean which redirect it to specific POJO which then uses Entity Beans for persistence.
    We have following environment.
    JDK1.4.2, Weblogic 7 with SP5, Oracle10g on AIX 5.2
    Now the problem is that we were using Oracle 8 jdbc driver classes12.zip for our application. Everything was working smoothly. Recently we moved our weblogic and oracle Servers machines locations, after that movement we started to get an exception when weblogic initializing connection pool that makes connection to a different oracle10g database. Oracle supports ask us to upgrade the jdbc driver. So we moved to 10g driver ojdbc14.jar but during testing one functionality is failing with a exception where rest of application seems to be working fine. The exception occurs when we try to post a record and during the creation of a child entity bean the transactions rollback for some unknown reasons. Using the old oracle8 classes12.zip driver the same code working fine again. We have also tried the classes12.zip driver of Oracle10g but error persist. I have checked the code and deployment descriptors but they seems fine. If i comment the creation of that particular entity bean the parent bean get created successfully and transaction commit successfully. Please also note that we have not created any relation b/w both entity beans not even in the database. They both are sort of independent.
    Can any one having any idea why Oracle10g driver not working or what might be the problem with our configuration. Any help will be highly appreciated. Please see the Exception below.

    can't tell based on what you've posted, and I fear that the stuff you'll have to post to get an answer here will be too much. this isn't a good place to come for an answer.
