Elements 11 - endless MAC pinwheel on loading a file
Any solution to the endless pinwheel in 11 Editor (updates installed)?
I load a previously created PSD file, move a few layers around and the endless pinwheel appears.
Have to Force Quit.
MAC OSX 10.8.3
1. Close Elements.
2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down CMD + Alt + Shift as you click Editor.
3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.

Elements 6 for Mac doesn't recognize NEF files
When I try to open a Nikon RAW image (NEF) in Elements 6 for Mac I get the following message, "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." To work with RAW is the whole reason I bought the Mac and also bought Elements! I also bought Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac the Missing Manual and followed the instructions on page 41 to set the File Associations. The Association for Nikon was already set to Elements. I also tried to follow the Tip on page 43 to change the application which opens a particular type of file and the "Change All" option is not an option as it's light gray. My equipment is brand new, the software is brand new (no upgrade) and I can't do something that seems like it should be straight forward. I've tried everything I can think of, can anyone help me .... please?
I shut everything down and when I tried again it worked!! Thanks!

Photoshop Elements Editor 11 Mac doesn't remember open files
I just installed PSE 11 on my Mac (OS X 10.8.2). My previous version (PSE 6) would re-open all files that had been open when I quit the app last time, but this version always opens with a blank screen. I can't find any preference in PSE to affect this, and the overall Mac setting is set properly. How can I get PSE to remember what files I was working on?
The File->Open Recent files show recent files list. If you are talking about files automatically reopens in PSE then there is an option on Mac under Settings->general which says "Restore..."

Elements 12 for MAC won't open new files or save to any format
After using for a few weeks, I have had a few crashes, but this morning, I could not save a photo "Due to program Error" (no codes etc). Closing out that file and losing the edits, but now I cannot open any new file?!? Again "due to program Error". Working on Christmas cards and gifts...so this is not cool! Any help out there would be GREATLY appreciated! Running Macbook Pro with ample disk space and hard drive availibitly.
First try going to the editor preferences>general, clicking this button and restarting PSE.

Loading .gif animations into Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac
For years I used Photoshop Elements 2 for Windows to make .gif animations with great success.
Then I switched to a Mac and bought Elements 8 for Mac. Now, I am finding out that I can not load any
of the animations I made using Elements 2 into 8. (And yet I can load animations I made using 8 into 2.)
In fact, I can not load any .gif animations into 8, other than if I make one and save it
as .psd. 8 allows me to make them, but not load them as .gifs.
My question: Is there an easy way to load .gif animations into PS Elements 8 so a
person can work on the individual frames? Am I going to have to convert any .gif animation I
want to import into 8 first into .psd? All I seem to get when I try to load a .gif is the message
"This is an animated gif. You can only view one frame." I have searched manuals and the
Net looking for a specific method of using PSE8 to load gif animations intact (not just one frame).

I followed the directions detailed in your blog entitled "Moving a Catalog from Windows to Mac" as well as your description of the process on page 58 of your book "Photoshop Elements 9 - the missing manual."
I installed PE9 for Windows and converted my catalog. I then backed up that catalog to an external hard drive. I then connected the hard drive to my MAC on which I also installed Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC. I opened the Organizer and tried to restore that converted catalog. However, for each file in the converted catalog, a dialog box opened that said "Could not restore file: /Volumes/Name of External Hard Drive/Filename.JPG."
I then made a second backup of the converted catalog using Photoshop Elements 9 for Windows and then tried to restore that catalog again on the MAC using Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC, again to no avail.
Do you have any idea what the problem may be?

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe Premier 10 loaded on a Dell PC. Do I need to uninstall from the Dell before I install on a recently purchased Apple Mac Pro? There are separate disks for Mac and PC in the package.
Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.
BTW, this is the forum for Adobe Contribute. -
I friend has given me his original copy of Photoshop Elements 11. It will not load on to my computer. Mac. mini. I keep getting will not initialize.
I own the businesses, so there are no restrictions. Even my personal page has the same problem. I've been working on FB for years with no access problems. Ironically, the problem started the day the FB IPO went public. At first, the "freeze" happened when I tried to view a photo. Now it happens virtually every time I try to do anything: view a friend's page, try to use "chat."
I'm at a loss. I would view it as a blessing, except that too many of my "friends" and family only use FB to communicate. I'm afraid that's how the world is today, and we can't turn back the clock. -
Photoshop Elements 10 on Mac Missing Creat & Share Functionality after installation
Running Mac Leopard 10.6.3. Installed Photoshop Elements 10 but am missing Create and Share functionality.
Tried upgrading from OS X 10.5 to 10.6.3, Uninstalling, Re-installing and rebooting but problem still exists (see attached screenshot with blank Create section).
Also tried looking at installation log file and saw two warnings (see below).
Am I missing something or is this an installation bug?

Photoshop Elements 10 Edit Screen won't load
Photoshop Elements 10 Edit Screen won't load. It was working fine, then I responded to an Adobe Update. It stopped working. I re-installed Photoshop Elements 10 for MAC from the purchased Disc. The organizer works but not the editor. The organizer is not able to call the Editor either. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I cannot get the editor to load it's editing screen or any images.
I'm really stuck.Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:

repair permissions and try again.

Sorry if this is a double-post; had problem finding correct forum (and don't even know if THIS is the correct one). I've just wasted 45 minutes digging through "help" searches for Photoshop Elements 10. I have a very simple question, for which I can find NO answer: since I upgraded my Mac OS to Lion, I can no longer grab an image -- or, most importantly, several images from several locations on my several drives -- then drag and drop them on the PS Elements 10 icon in my Dock, or on the PS Elements 10 icon in my Applications folder, and have PS Elements 10 automatically boot open, and load these images into the Editor workspace. I try it, and PS Elements 10 just sits there and refuses to open. I could do this in Snow Leopard, and I can do this in Lion with EVERY other app I have (providing I'm dragging and dropping files that the apps recognize). As I have many images in many files, this is, obviously, a huge PITA. How do I fix this?

Bart BrownAnd THAT, of course, WAS the problem. Thank you very much for figuring it out. It's pretty remiss of Adobe to NOT make this extremely NON-intuitive-to-Mac-users fact clear. This is, in fact, the first time since the Dock was created that I've come across an app that WASN'T obviously in the Applications folder, the REAL app instead skulking -- with no explanation of the fact from the company that produced the app -- in a support files folder. I would have assumed that, considering their long association with Apple, Adobe knows the App-to-Dock drill by now; this failure on the part of Adobe to clearly state that the file named "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor," hidden inside the Support Files folder, and NOT the obvious choice, "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10," sitting right there naked to the world inside the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" Application folder, is the one that needs to be put in the Dock, is extremely poor communication of absolutely essential information. Since, during a normal installation of PSE 10, you end up with an "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" folder, which is inside the "Applications folder," and the "Support Files" folder, which is inside the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" folder (like one of those nesting Russian dolls), and the "Support Files" folder, in just about any "View" mode you select, is normally closed,... well, how many people have enough time on their hands or idle curiosity, to open an app's "Support Files" folder? Even if they should be so inquisitive, what would they surmise about the item named "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor" in that ""Support Files" folder? Maybe I'm just dense, but if I found an item in a "Support Files" folder, placed there by the installer, I would assume that item to be a Support file. That's just crazy talk, I know, but that's pretty much the way every Mac application I've ever installed works (and I've installed, literally, thousands): support files are actually support files, and the visible icon inside the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" folder IS THE APP. What Barbara B. said is spot on:

So, Mac boys and girls, what is the obvious file in the PSE 10 folder as shown below that, if you didn't know better (and how would you?), you would be habitually inclined to think was the actual Application, and which you would then drag to the Dock?
Maybe I'm just terminally stupid, but that "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" application icon inside the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" folder, which is inside the "Applications folder," looks like an App to me. If Adobe's going to change the rules, they need to make it plain during the installation process:
I cannot think of a single App whose folder inside the System's Applications folder is set up as misleadingly as PSE 10's App folder is set up. I think Adobe should, at the very least, include a "READ THIS FIRST" doc in the install, explaining that the little gem you want in your dock is NOT the obvious one inside the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" App folder, but the darling little gem coyly hidden inside the normally closed "Support Files" folder. ADOBE NEEDS TO CHANGE THIS. I'm an old retired Graphic Designer and photgrapher, and, of course, my time doesn't count for much in Adobe's eyes, but I did not appreciate wasting essentially an entire day trying to figure out this PSE 10 problem myself, first with Adobe's truly miserable online troubleshooting resources, and then on this forum. My time may not mean anything to Adobe, but it means everything to me, as time is all I have left, and at my age, you know you don't have another 25 years of productive life ahead of you.

Well, the "reveal hidden system files," while a mildly interesting, but pointless, exercise in learning three ways to "reveal hidden system files" -- all three methods of which I performed, restarting after each of the 3 methods -- was a red herring, and took MORE of my time, leading to MORE consequent frustration.

And this brings me to the peroration in my pronunciamento of my pet peeve topic, and please, 99jon, this is no rebuke to you: it happens in every forum, and, most disastrously, in Apple's so-called "Discussion" groups.
In most forums, members are ranked by the number of their posts, and/or the number of their posts voted "helpful" by other members. Again, ,99jon, please don't misunderstand me: I'm not picking on you, nor do I include you in the class of people I'm about to describe -- I know you made an honest effort to help, and I thank you for it -- I'm simply using your post as a clear (and convenient) literary example; I certainly don't put you in the class of people I'm about to describe)
There's a certain mindset among some members of most forums -- and Apple Discussions is the worst of the lot, so I'll use that as an example -- where certain members try to rack up "posting points," as if they were vying for a "letter" for their high-school sweater in some interscholastic competition. No matter what their expertise -- or, most typically, utter lack of same -- regarding a question you may ask on Apple Discussions, they have their email notifications set so they can try to be the first to answer. Their object -- unlike 99jon's and Barbara B.s -- is NOT to help someone; it's simply to rack up more points. Since Apple Discussions rates "Discussion" members by the number of posts they make, NOT the quality or efficacy of those posts, these "remora fish" answer as many posts as they can. Well, they're having their simple-minded fun, and no harm, right? WRONG. When another Discussions member, who actually knows what he's talking about, sees that a "high-number" member has posted to your question, they automatically assume -- quite erroneously, in most cases -- "Well, this poor sap is being helped by someone who has high numbers, and therefore must know his/her stuff; no sense sticking MY nose in. And there the thread dies. Thinking, because of their "numbers," that some "Genius" (and is that not the stupidest term for a soldier in the Apple Store ranks who's maybe had a week's training?) is helping you out, no one else -- any one or several of whom may be able to help you out of your difficulty -- jumps into the discussion. It has happened to me, and many people I know, countless times. Apple doesn't care: they make no money off "Discussions," if you want putatively reliable technical help, buy Apple Care.
That's why it's important, in a forum like this, to always click your answer to the "Was this helpful" voting button at the bottom of the message.

How can I get Elements 12 to load raw files from my Nikon D5300. I have installed DNG Conv. 8.7.1
I cannot get Elements 12 to recognise and load NEF files from my Nikon D5300. I have downloaded and installed the latest DNG coverter software 8.7.1 but Elements still refuses to load any NEF files.

You shouldn't need to use the DNG converter unless you are using the MAC app version. The D5300 should be supported by Camera Raw 8.3 which should be compatible with Photoshop Elements 12.
In the editor go to Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw to see which version you have loaded. The latest for Photoshop Elements 12 is 8.5. If you have an older one then go to the Help menu and select Updates.
If you are up to date, then you may have use old Nikon software to access the NEF files and that is known to corrupt them so that Photoshop Elements can't read them.

Why does my Premiere Elements 10 for mac freeze?
Why does my Premiere Elements 10 for mac freeze (makes spinning circle loading) and doesn't stop when I am asked to select my country/region? I already had trouble downloading it originally because there was an error downloading, and then the following image happens (note: the screenshot couldn't capture the spinning circle freeze, but just look at the "application not responding" message below):
Why does this happen? I downloaded and opened photoshop elements 10 (that came with the bundle) fine, but I can't open this.
For reference, I am using a mac book pro from 2012 that is 64bit on OS X 10.8.5.
Edit: Also, for the aforementioned error that I was getting earlier when installing, I would try to install and then half way through it said that the download failed. I had to follow the second method to fix in this link:

1. Not sure what you mean by 2 warranty licenses that the CD comes ith in the package.
If you purchased the Premiere Elements 10 Mac in boxed packaging, then you should have an installation disc and a purchased serial number. You cannot lose that. You can install and reinstall the program when you need to do so. There is no limit on uninstalling or reinstalling. The only limit is Adobe allows you to have your purchased serial number on no more than 2 of your computers. We can talk about it some more if necessary but there is a distinction between Deactivate and Uninstall. There has not been a limit on Deactivations in years.
Another approach if you think your installation files or disc is corrupt is to download tryout files from the following web site and then install from them and insert you purchased serial number at installation.

You have to read the Note: Very Important Instructions very carefully otherwise you end up with Access Denied.
If you think that we are now in sync, then I would suggest
a. Delete the preference file (settings file)
or
b. Deactivate, uninstall, ccleaner run through, reinstall as per your instructions that worked for you.
I will be watching for further details in the morning. Hopefully some of the Premiere Elements Mac users will join the thread to give the Mac perspective to the situation.

Elements 8 for Mac. Won't recognize RAW
Hi. I installed Elements 8 on my Mac last night. All of my RAW images in Bridges were just a blank page with a folded corner. When I tried to open my cr2 images it told me Photoshops cannot recognize that file format. I went to the online support and found the Camera Raw version 5.6 download and followed the instructions to load it. As far as I can tell it is where I was told to put it. I now have images in Bridge but Elements still won't recognize that type of file. Raw is also NOT listed as a plugin in the Camera Raw preferences list, although when I look in Finder it is listed there under file formats for CS4... I don't know where to go from here. Any help with be greatly appreciated!

Photoshop Elements 2 Quits Half Way Through Loading ?
I installed PSE 2 on my new iMac but when launched it gets about half-way through and then quits with an error message saying there is some sort of terrible problem.
The actual wording is:-
"An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit".
Is this a known problem with this old application ?
It installed from the CD without a hint of a problem.

PSE4 is nowhere near as fast as PSE6 on our Intel machines. On my 2 GHz machine PSE6 boots up in 11 seconds whereas PSE4 did so in about 25. When loading up multiple pictures at a time PSE4 was pretty sluggish about it (I never actually timed it) whereas when I do that with 6 it does so in a flash. For instance I just now timed the loading of 6 color images and it did so in 3 seconds.
And yes there are a number of new features with it but for me the speed and responsiveness over PSE4 make it well worth while. I do a lot of image editing and retouching and that's the reason I favor the quickness of response of the application. That said there are also some things that one has to get used to about the new interface. Here's a review about that:

It comes with a manual but I got myself a copy of "Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac: the Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundage which is far more comprehensive and much easier to follow. If you get PSE 6 I highly recommend that you get a copy of it also.

I have just downloaded a trial version of Photoshop Elements onto my Mac Book Pro (10.9.4). The installation to my hard drive went fine so I attempted to use Elements on an existing Photoshop file. I did not see the Elements option in my filter menu and am uncertain as to how to "add" the Elemnts to my existing filter choices. Please advise.
I'm sorry but it's very hard to understand what you mean. What filter menu? In which program? Do you mean you're trying to use PSE as an external editor with some other asset management program? Which one?
