Elements Mac processor requirements (revised)

Which versions of Elements will run on Macs with  Intel Core 2 Duo processors?  Requirements thru v 10 only say "multicore processors"; v11 requires 64 bit processors.  I assume all versions thru v10 will run on Core 2 Duo processors, but will v11?  I assume these processors are only 32 bit, but I am not sure.

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor will work with Photoshop Elements 11.  I had it working on a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 ghz processor successfully.  It is the Intel Core Duo processor which is a single core processor.

  • Mac processor required for PSE 8

Simple question for which I haven't found a straight answer:
Will PSE 8 run on a G5 with OSX 10.5.8?

No, sorry. If you look at the system requirements:

    the very first one is:
    Multi-core Intel® processor
PSE 8 will not run on any PPC machine, which what your G5 has. PSE 6 should be fine, though.

  • Processor requirements for Safari?

For my first foray into Apple Discussions, I am going to ask what is probably a very stupid question, but here goes...
After updating the software on my OLD iMac at work (to OS 10.4.7, Safari 2.0.4), Safari will not launch. I get one of those "Safari unexpectedly quit-other applications not affected" error msgs every time. The guys from our IT department took a look and told me that this version of Safari will not run on a computer as old as mine. (I have exactly the same stuff on my iBook G4 at home and it works great.) They downloaded Firefox and told me to use that. Is this for real? Does Safari have processor requirements above and beyond the OS? Everything else seems to be working OK. And if it really is true, can I uninstall the new Safari and install an older version?
    Thanks!

Hi nildem, & welcome to apple discussions

Did you actually mean version 10, as in Illustrator 10 from 2001?
    If so:
    • Your G4 with OS X 10.4 (2005-2007) would probably run it, (using Rosetta if needed / PPC based).
    • OS X 10.9 will definitely not allow install or run it.

  • Help - which FCP can I use with my Mac processor (2 x 2.5Ghz) G5?

I am so utterly confused by this G5. My daughter suggested I buy one as she is a graphic designer and highly recommended a Mac. However, I couldn't afford a new machine, so found a Mac processor G5. It looks like a decent machine, but the bewildering OS versions, specifications and expensive software has me baffled.
I wanted to buy Final Cut Pro to edit video footage but as soon as I started looking, I found that almost every site said that whatever version of FCP I looked at, it would not run on my G5. I bought OS 10.4 Tiger as that seems to be the last OS that can be used on the machine. The spec is: OS 10.4 Tiger (all up to date), 2 x 2.5Ghz Mac (PPC) processors, plus as much RAM as could be crammed into it.
Out of desperation (and a frustrating experience with Adobe Premiere Elements 7) I bought Premiere Elements 9 as it had a PC and Mac licence in the same package. Guess what - I was told the software would be excellent on my G5 but as usual, the advice was incorrect; Premiere Elements 9 will only run on an Intel-equipped Mac. It is fine on my PC though.
Can anyone help? Please be a person who owns or has owned a PPC G5 and preferably with FCP loaded. Or someone who knows the real thing to do - I cannot afford any more duff info.

The last and latest version of final cut to run on PPC (AND intel by the way) was FCP 5.1, which shipped as part of Final Cut Studio1. Good luck trying to find a copy-- This was the universal cross grade that you got by sending your disks to Apple.

  • How to run 32-bit PS plugin on CS5 in 64-bit Mac processor?

    Hi...
I have developed an automation plugin for PS CS 3,4 & 5 using CS4 SDK in 32-bit Mac processor. I wanted to have a single build for all the three versions. I am unable to run my plugin on CS3, it loads, but no dialog comes up on clicking the menu item. I have used ADM suites for the dialog. I am unable to spot a solution, please guide me...
Also, another problem with this is that the plugin works for CS5 in 32-bit mode, but the plugin doesn't load when tried with CS5 on 64-bit mode. I made changes in the PiPL, but still no change. I referred the steps mentioned in the documentation for creating a 64-bit plugin, but in the "Step 3: Fix entry point and PiPL", it says that the entry point needs to be changed. But, the entry point mentioned is different from the Automation plugin entry-point. Can you please suggest a way to overcome this problem?
    Thanks!

Update on the plugin compatibility with CS3.. It looked like an ADM compatibility issue.. I changed some suites versions.. Now, I am able to display the dialog, but now I have spotted a bigger problem.. that is, that the plugin aborts when it encounters an "sSPBasic->AcquireSuite" statement. I can't see why.. The error code is 1394689636 which points to "S!FD", i.e., Suite not found.. How can this be? Please guide... Its urgent..
    Thanks..!

How may I open Pages '08 docs in Pages for Mac?  Requires saving to Pages '09 which I don't have.

If you still have a working copy of Pages ’08, then save the Pages documents out as .doc Word files and open those in Pages v5.5.2. If you do not have a machine to run Pages '08 on, but still have the iWork '08 DVD, you can install that on Yosemite, and then update Pages '08 to version 3.0.3. Then export the Pages documents to Word. Or you can simply avoid using Pages v5.5.2 altogether, as it has a fraction of the capability found in Pages '08.

  • How do I get my mac to require password for shutdown

I have a mac book air running OS X 10.8.5.
I want my mac to require a password when shutting down. Is that possible?
I've googled it but I can't find anything.
I want to be the only one that can shut down my computer on the button, som that others can't shut down by mistake or on purpose.
    Thanks for help in advance.

I would like to know why you want this feature. To me it isn't needed in any way. If you are trying to guard against someone walking by your computer and them shutting it down without saving work you are doing there is a work around. Just put the system to sleep and have it set to ask for a password to gain access.
But that doesn't stop someone from holding down the power button to Force shut it down and even if you had this password to shut down feature that same thing can happen, Power Button held down until the system turns off.
So if I needed to shut down any modern computer, notebook or desktop, no matter if it asked for a password or not to shut down, all I'd have to do is hold down the power button for about 5-10 seconds and the system would power down. Totally defeating the password prompt.

Have you tried installing the Microsoft's codec pack for Windows 7?  If not it is worth a try:

Microsoft releases updates for its codec packs every 6 months so it is a good idea to get them.

  • Processor requirements may be out of date

I am trying to decide what computer to buy so that I can use Creative Cloud, in particular, Premiere Pro.  Looking at the requirements, the processor is specified as "Intel Core2 Duo or AMD Phenom II processor with 64-bit support".  Well Intel is beyond the Core2 Duo.  I'm wondering what the actually processor requirement is. I just can't believe that it is as specific as this, especially since I haven't seen any new computers out there with these processors.
Could someone please update the system requirements so that I buy the correct software.  I have been putting this off because of this.
    Thanks!

The problem is the Adobe video apps (or DVA's) use hardware in very specific ways. You're not just going to go and find an off-the-shelf model that really works well unless you go to some of the high-end Dell or other rigs designed for video editing. Unless you or someone that builds/maintains systems for you knows the stuff to be able to tell which model is a good start but then tacks on the right alternate gear. How much hardware do you need ... and what's your budget? These are all questions none of us other users can tell you.
Those last two short paragraphs of my previous post really do give the info that you, your computer savvy friend, or the dude at the shop or over-the-phone will need to probably get you something decent. I'll just note ... many gamers think just get a good gaming machine, they can really make video fly, right? Um ... maybe. A lot of the better gamer rigs use AMD video cards ... but the Adobe apps are still more comfortable in the nVidia video cards. They're much better about working with AMD cards, but it's often easier to get them working well with nVidia. And the disc read/write in/out problems for video post-production are vastly greater than anything a gamer will encounter, so a lot of gaming machines are not really designed to run a ton of hard-drives.
So, again ... 6 or more cores to the CPU. At least 16Gb RAM, more if possible, but DON'T load up on RAM and skimp on say a motherboard without a lot of disc connections on the motherboard (mobo). A mobo with connections for at least 6 SATA II/III or Thunderbolt hard-drive connections is wise. For external ports, in order of desirability ... Thunderbolt, sSATA II, or USB3, as USB3 is vastly lower sustained throughput (data in/out) than the other two. An nVidia video card with at least 2048MB (2gigabytes) of video RAM, and 1500 or more "CUDA" cores.
For drives ... if possible, 256GB or larger SSD for your system drive (operating system & programs, the "C" drive). Another SSD of 256Gb or bigger for cache files is good. Past that, adding 2 terrabyte or better 7200 rpm drives to fill the machine and your budget.
If you've got four internal drives past the system & cache drives, if someone could set up a 4-drive RAID 0 or RAID 5 "array" for you that would be excellent. Or an external pre-built hardware RAID array over a Thunderbolt connection could work very well.
Use this data to go through specs on machines you'd consider, or to hand to someone you enlist to get a machine chosen/modified for you. I know the "parts" stuff, but wouldn't know much more than you about how it all goes together. I've got a business partner who's a wiz at this ... I give him specs like above, he goes to Newegg for putting together a prospective machine and gives me the cost figures, then orders the parts & builds me a machine.
I'm assuming you'll either look for pre-built computers with the specs given, or have someone do what my builder does. And I wish it was simpler. Perhaps on the Hardware Forum someone would know of a currently available reasonably priced model from a decent computer company that you could just order. You'd have to ask over there.

  • Important: A Mac is required to produce iOS apps for the Apple App Store

Another user asked if a Mac was required.  This is a sufficiently important topic, and I'm repeating my answer here for that reason.
My equipment in this world: a Windows 7 PC and an iPod Touch 4. So, I asked myself the same question.
I read iOS Development With Flash, by Dolce (Visual Blueprint publishing). The book is about a year old, so some screenshots are out-of-date, because Apple changed things since the publishing. The book is excellent, though. It walks you through the entire process of creating an iOS app, especially for Windows users.
    Here's the bottom line:
    - Using Windows, you can do the development using Flash CS5.5.
    - Using Windows, you can generate the certificates, provisioning files, etc. (it's not simple, but it's not hard).
    - You have to have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to test your app on.
    - Using Windows, you can use iTunes to transfer your app file from your PC to your device for testing.
    - Using Windows, you can use iTunesConnect (the website that lets you specify all your app details to Apple for their App Store).
    - YOU CANNOT UPLOAD YOUR APP FILE TO THE APP STORE WITHOUT A MAC!!!
Previously, Apple allowed you to upload your app using iTunesConnect, the website. THEY REMOVED THAT CAPABILITY.
Now, you must use Apple's Application Uploader (or whatever it's called) to upload your app file to the App Store (and, remember that Apple has to approve your app before they put it on their App Store).
The only way to get the Application Uploader, if I understand correctly, is to install the Apple Developer SDK. And, you can only install that SDK on a Mac.
So, this seems to be the last-ditch effort by Apple to force you to have a Mac to send your final app file to them for review and hopeful publishing on the the App Store.
If anyone knows otherwise, please correct this info.

In my previous thread you said
I didn't mean the P12 file that Flash uses. There are developer and distribution certificates that get installed into Keychain Access on the Mac, that the various developer tools can directly read. My suspicion is that Application Loader reads those, as part of the process of seeing if you're entitled to be uploading anything to that account.
Is there any clarification on this? Because in this guide it seems to suggest doing the signing up on the PC, and then using something called openSSL, also at the bottom there is a comment which says...
Just a note that it’s possible that this tutorial needs to be updated to accomodate new requirements from Apple. I was able to gain access to a Mac and I can now install the test app just fine. I followed this tutorial word for word once then again from scratch and was never able to successfully install the app to my iPhone. I did notice that if I pull a certificate generated this way into Apple Keychain the option to export a key is not there. So that’s likely where the problem lies.
So at a very rough (I'm new to AIR and iOS) guess I'm thinking sign up on the Mac, test on the iPhone via itunes again on the mac, and when the game is done, submit via the mac, but I can develop via the Flash CS5.5/AIR/Windows and create the necessary files which I will then have to port across to the Mac for any kind of submission/testing (on an actual device) ??

Except as noted above, you just need to keep Mac OS X up to date and use common sense.
