Elitebook 8530w docking station options

When I search for docking stations online, I find lots of options, but one that specifically mention compatibility with my Elitebook 8530w.  That one is $300.  Any less expensive options?

$50 on ebay:

  • Elitebook 8530w Docking Station Compatibility

I'm trying to find out from an 8530w owner how well their machine fits in a 2008 dock (preferably the 2008 advanced dock).
I find that my laptop pulls off easily from the right hand side without pressing the release button. I've tried the same machine on a few other docks at work (all 2008 advanced docks) with the same result. The left hand clip seems to engage well (I can't pull the laptop off the dock even with moderate force), but a very mild tug on the right side of the machine causes it to come free.
There are no obvious obstructions I can see on the base of the laptop so I'm at a loss as to why this happens.
Given that I expect to be able to lock my laptop in my dock, this is obviously a security issue.

No problem. It is an older monitor. But being a small business, we can't afford to discard a working monitor that costs $1500 to replace.
The annoying part is that we tried to do a lot of research prior to purchase to find out exactly what resolutions the Lenovo docking solutions supported. We asked our rep to check because of the total lack of Lenovo documenation on this. We would not have wasted all this time trying to get it to work if we had known.
Even now, no one from Lenovo has come right out and stated that their docking stations don't support Dual Link. I think that they actually have no idea.
We've been bounced around and around between the same Lenovo sales, support and customer service numbers so many times in the past three days that they are now just dropping our calls in the hope that we will go away. No one at Lenovo has offered a solution of any kind.
FYI, we've even been told that because we ordered the W540 through CDW that there is 'nothing Lenovo can do.'

  • No Audio comes from my Elitebook 6930p when i connect it to the USB Docking Station

When ever i connect my Elitebook 6930p to the USB Docking Station, the Audio from my Laptop does not come.
The Audio works very well, without the USB Connected.
Looks like the Docking station is bringing the Audio out through its own ports, to be connected to the external speakers.
However i dont have any external speakers and would like the Audio to come out from the Laptop only.
The USB Docking station is : HPK HSTNN-S01X(B)
And my Elitebook is running on Windows XP.
Please suggest a way to do it.
    Cheers
    Ameet

Well, it sounds like your windows sets your audio output to your docking device?
Perhaps you should look from Sound options (in control panel) what playback device is being used when audio comes out right. Then dock it and see if it changes? if it changes, set default device back to what it was when it worked.
With this info i have i can't help you more. Hope it works.

  • Not Getting "Undock" Option in Windows 7 with W520 in Docking Station

I just bought a W520 which is my 5th ThinkPad in about 10 years.  This one is different in that I don't get the option to "Undock" in the Windows 7 "Shutdown" option list.  I also noticed the W520 doesn't seat as securely into the docking station as my prior ThinkPads, but the docking station ports all work correctly.
Is there something wrong with my hardware or Windows 7 settings?

    Hi all
I guess, this article would help
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/94468d2b-4ae8-4228-90a6-2c5ae...
If the undock option is not available, you could just put your laptop into sleep mode (or simply close the lid by default) and just undock the docking station from it. Resuming from sleep mode does not take much time either.
    Have a nice day!

  • EN488AA docking station compatible with Elitebook 6930p?

I have an Elitebook 6930p laptop at work that uses a KP080AA docking station.
I bought another 6930p laptop for home and I have an EN488AA docking station that looks idential to the KP080AA docking station but my 6930p laptop is not listed as being compatible with the EN488AA docking station (although it does plug into it ok).  Perhaps the EN488AA doking station is just an older version of the KP080AA docking station?
Can anyone tell me ifthe 6930p will work in the EN488AA docking station?  I don't want to harmmy new laptop by just rying it out..
    Thanks!

I actually found the answer myself in the small business HW forum of this HP website.
In that post, it said that the EN488AA docking station IS compatibale with the Elitebook 6930p laptop.
I have since plugged my 6930p laptop into the EN488AA docking station with no damage done that I noticed.
The only issue I have is that when I swap the laptop into the docking staion, the display resolution seems to get screwed up on the external monitor.  The desktop is bigger than the physical screen so some icons can't be seen. I haven't had time to investigate that yet.  I am sure there is a setting I need to adjust somewhere for that.

  • Differences between docking stations EN488AA and KP080AA?

OK... So first of all... If I'm posting on the wrong board please bear with me as I try to make sense of the labyrinthine forum organization!!!
I am looking at acquiring a docking station for my HP Elitebook 8730w. I see many options in the manual, but no explanation of the differences in functionality.
Could someone please describe the differences between these two supposedly compatible options (EN488AA and KP080AA), excluding the power supply, unless they have different connectors. (I already have a both a 150W and a 180W power supply)?
    Thank You!

My express would not work with 7.3.1...at all. It would not reset after configuring it.
To change the FW version, in Airport Utility go to manual setup and then click on the version tab. That will give you the version options to upload.
I had to have the express connected to my macbook via ethernet for this to work. It would not do it over wireless.

  • HP Zbook 15, external monitor connected to docking station issue

    Dear all
I have bought a HP Zbook 15 laptop and installed Ubuntu 12.04. It does not show anything on the external monitor when I mount the laptop on the docking station.
After installing the Ubuntu 12.04 and putting it on the docking station for the first time, I got this problem:
"If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver". I have attached the whole log file. Then, I installed the latest Nvidia driver, and restarted the machine. This time, I do not see that error message; however, I cannot see anything on my external monitor which is connected to the docking station. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem?
    Best regards,
    Murtaza

@emeres: Sorry, yes, it's an HP 2013 UltraSlim Docking Station. I figured it was the only one compatible with the notebook model I provided.
Regarding any electrical circuitry or controls... well, sure, I'm assuming there's some circuitry in there
I'll give a whirl at using that two screen setup when I get a chance. I'm not inclined to think I need to hard-code it in a xorg conf file of some sort given that xrandr finds it just fine. I'm just perplexed by why it goes AWOL after one connect/disconnect. Now that you mention it, it could be the docking station internals, as I'm assuming most folks would be using this to plug in their computer, then completely remove it to go elsewhere, and then come back to their desk. Thus, they'd be physically disconnecting it vs. just toggling?
That said, I'm pretty sure I can use Windows Fn+F4 to toggle laptop vs. laptop + "projector" (what Win7 calls any external display) all day with no issues, so I'd think xrandr should be able to do the same?
Thanks for the input and links.

  • Hard Drive not recognized when booting from XP CD on docking station

The hard drive on my X60 failed to the point where I couldn't recover and reinstall the image. I have backups of all my data and a docking station so I didn't sweat it. Bought a new drive and installed it and this is when the trouble began.
I created an XP CD with SP2 slipstreamed in to make sure I have the latest drivers. I boot from XP CD and everything works until I try to install Windows. According to the installation CD there is no drive installed!
I reinstalled the drive to make sure and this time I booted off of Ubuntu Linux which installed flawlessly. That leads me to believe that  there is a driver problem with Windows.
I need help! I would like to install Windows on the machine but nothing I've tried works.

Standard Microsoft XP SP2 does not come with any SATA device drivers.
    You have two options:
Go into the T60 BIOS and switch the SATA controller mode away from AHCI to "IDE" mode (or pehaps its "legacy" or "compatibility" mode - I forget what specific term is used in a ThinkPad BIOS).
Find the SATA device driver for XP (it's probably in the Intel Chipset driver download) on the Lenovo X60 support web site, download it and install it using the additional driver installation option which is offered right at the start of an XP install.
If you chose option 1, remember to switch the SATA controller back to AHCI mode in the BIOS after you have installed the SATA device driver.
    Cheers,
    Bill

  • Are there any MBA "Docking Stations"?

Would like to use my MBA as a desktop system while at home. Looking for a docking station that is made for the MBA. Anyone see any options?
I would like one that holds the closed lid MBA so I can just run off the external display to save the MBA screen some life as I will use it for hours at home. Maybe running closed lid will keep the built in display live longer.
    tj

Like ahostmadsen, when I am working in my home-office I connect my MBA:
    - via USB socket to a powered USB hub which is connected to a Lacie hard drive, Lacie DVD/CD writer, iPhone
    - via the Micro DVI port to a Sony 19" external monitor
    - via bluetooth to a cordless mouse
    - via airport express to my hi-fi and a colour printer
The three cables that connect to the MBA (power lead, USB and VGA) are bound together for convenience. I use a second power cable when travelling.
This arrangement works well for and my desk is relatively uncluttered.

  • Sony Docking station will no longer play audio on Alarm after ios 7 upgrade

I have read through many of the community postings and hate to have to start a new question when there are over 90,000 that have viewed or commented on this same type issue, but I have tried all the suggestions from community users and they work for a test, but then when you set the alarm for the next day, it flashes and no audio. Why is it that Apple is ignoring this huge customer dissatifaction and why is it that they can do this to the users? I read in one stream that they inserted a software to block any "Non-Apple" product from working with their new software. I have 3 phones in this house that have not been upgraded and they work fine. The two that I upgraded will NOT play the audio. The light will flash as if it triggered the alarm, but nothing triggers the iTunes to play. Originally Apple said it was my Sony device. Wrong! So then they said it was iTunes because they iTunes Radio was in the first/primary slot now and I had not signed up or created a Radio station. They did show me how to go into More options and change the priority to place my own music and playlist in the primary and get rid of the iTunes radio and it worked. Next day it didn't. Then I read that if you plug into an Apple peripherial and then a Non-Apple device, it will again shutdown. So I have started doing the Shutdown step every night when placing it on the docking station, never knowing if the Alarm will play/sound at 4:50 or not. Needless to say, I am NOT getting any sleep as I watch the minutes tick towards the waking hour anxiously waiting to see if the phone Will or Will not wake me. I have also seen people mention removing the "SoundCloud" What the heck is that and how do you do it?

In my Sync vehicle, I had to "forget" the SYnc connection in the iPhone Bluetooth settings, then go into the car menu and delete the bluetooth device from the vehicle's system. Once I re-paired from scratch, it has been working fine. Give that a try. If not, try removing the connection from both sides again, then Reset Network Settings from the General Settings before re-pairing.

  • Connecting to a docking station on an LCD tv

    Hi
I recently purchased the Technika Pro LCD19-218 HD digital LCD tv/dvd, with ipod docking station and freeview from Tesco's. The freeview, tv and dvd functions are working perfectly, however the ipod does not. When I slot it in to the base slot the tv screen reads "ipod connecting" yet does not connect. I have tried the troubleshooting (updating ipod) but I have the most up to date software on the ipod that you can get. Is there anything that can be done? The ipod in question is a 2nd gen nano and works in all other docking stations. The troubleshotting guide says to do the following:
    Connect ipod to the computer
Go to start/all programs/ipod/ipod updater 20xx-xx-xx (it'll have the date Apple released it in the title)
    Run ipod updater
I have went onto itunes and ran the updater from there, and it still doesnt work! Please help, I'ma complete technophobe and would appreciate any thing you can tell me to do!!

    Connect ipod to the computer
Go to start/all programs/ipod/ipod updater 20xx-xx-xx (it'll have the date Apple >released it in the title)
    Run ipod updater
Those instructions are way out of date. For a long while now the iPod updater has been an integral part of iTunes and you update it by connecting the iPod, running iTunes and selecting the "summary" tab. There you will see the option to "check for updates" and "restore". Choosing restore will give you several options about updating the software on your iPod.
You can follow the instructions given by your TV manufacturer, but only if you have any of the older iPod updaters still stored on your computer, and using that method will not update the iPod with any newer software versions which may be available.
Does the guide suggest which iPod software version should be installed on the iPod? Does it give a list of compatible iPods? Not all iPods are compatible with all other accessories/docks/TVs etc.

  • My GS30 life with not 1, but 2 docking stations.

Recently I purchased an MS30 with included docking station, plus a spare docking station, plus  GTX 760 + GTX 970 graphics cards.
Reason being, I wanted a superlightweight PC for work with plenty of grunt, that I could use at work and home without having to use 2 seperate machines.
At work I have the unit with the GTX760 with dual screen plus various accessories, and at home the GTX970 single large screen plus accessories.
This system works pretty great, really. There is a slight pause of a few extra seconds on boot when you first connect the main notebook into a dock after it running on the other one, as it has to essentially 'reinstall' the new video card, even though it's been plugged into that dock before. Other than that, everything works flawlessly.
A couple of notes for those considering buying a GS30, from a bit over a month and a half of using it for 8 hours a day at work then 2-4 hours at home :
    - Lots of reviews say the setup is noisy. Out of the box, it is. But you can chop the noise a massive amount by opening the docking station, and looking for a little switch with LOW-MED-HIGH written above it. It's the fan speed controller, and by default it's on HIGH. Switch it to LOW, and in all but the most heavy overclocked load times the unit will be no noisier than any other home desktop machine or even many notebooks.
    - Some complaints in reviews I read mentioned that the inbuilt screen doesn't work when it's docked. This was true, as docking disabled the inbuilt Iris Pro video - however I applied the latest BIOS update v105 which apparently removes that limitation, and it now allows you to use both external monitors and the internal screen when docked. Only complication I've found so far is f.lux doesn't like the dual simultaneous video cards and flickers like mad when it's loaded.
    - Lots of people have said re the GS30 that it's expensive for the performance you get, compared to buying a seperate laptop and desktop. Maybe they're right, but there's something very handy about just having to worry about 1 PC no matter where you are. Plus the boss paid for it
    - MSI - Please add the option to disable the front light strips on both the laptop and the dock! The laptop light pulses in sleep mode, so obviously it's controllable and not hardwired to always be on.
    - Overall, extremely pleased. When I'm at home I can game on a nice 27" screen, I can then undock my notebook and carry on working on the couch  on an ultralight notebook while watching a TV show with my wife, and then plug it in at work and do some extremely intensive calculations - all without the GS30 breaking a sweat.

Looks like I jumped the gun on this one. While the screen worked on the dock for 1 or 2 boots, now it either totally fails to initialise and causes boot issues, or it activates and by doing so disables the video output via the external monitor. Highly annoying. And only problematic since v105.

  • AC Adapter for HP2400 docking station

I have purchased a HP2400 Ultra Light docking station (used) which was sold without an AC adapter.  I want to use it with my HP Elitebook 2530p.
According to HP website, both the 2400 docker and 2530 notebook use the External 65W Smart AC Adapter.  So, for the docking station, can I use the power adapter which belongs to my notebook (it fits)?
If I can't, what is the part number for the AC adapter I need to power the 2400 docking station?
    Thanks.

    Do I need a 12oW or 230W adapter?
