  • Console.app "All messages" view is empty

When I open the Console.app on my new MacBook Air, the "All messages" view is empty. I've tried deleting logs and fixing permissions, but to no avail. Any tips?

Yes, you've found one: it happens to me too. Got a new MacBook Pro today, transferred everything via Time Machine, and now I have a few things that don't work, but the Console is completely blank.
I'm guessing the "all" query tries to access some file I have no rights for. That could very well be, since I don't log in as admin. And sure, when I do log in as admin, I can see the logs. They're quite full, actually.

  • Console keeps repeating message???

I don't have a clue about this stuff but I think I'm suppose correct this? I CAN print stuff but I must of done something wrong because I keep getting the following message in console:

Not sure what other information you need?
Any help will be greatly appreciated (stepbystep please). Thank you for your time & patience.

    Hi Tom,

  • Console logs - All Messages v Console Messages

    Hi,
In Utilities/Console, what is the difference between the Console Messages log and the All Messages log?
    Thanks,
    b.

My understanding is that Console Log is really showing you the current System log from /private/var/log. The All Messages log would also show you things from the Kernel log, crash logs, and any other separate logs that your apps/user may create.

  • Console Log Monitoring

    in Console,
when you click on 'myserver' tab and then 'Monitoring' tab,
    when you monitor for all connections(in General Tab),(i.e mydomain> Servers> myserver>
Connections ) what does the attribute 'Bytes Sent' mean? Does it mean all the bytes
transferred btn client and server? where is 'Bytes Received' attribute?
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Console app "All Messages" goes silent

On my iMac G5 running 10.5.3, the "All Messages" display of the Console application has gone blank. Or rather, it doesn't show history, only messages from the moment I start the app. I can find messages in several of the contributing logs, such as system.log (using the app), but "All Messages" only shows messages logged while the app is up.
Is this the new "how it's supposed to work"? Is there some setting that makes it do this that I can unset?

It might be that your asl.db database is corrupt. That's a database used by the ASL framework, which is Apple's logging infrastructure and includes things like syslogd.
That database is located in /var/log, so you could try to delete it and have the system recreate it. Here are some command line steps that would do that:
    1. sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plist
    2. sudo rm -f /var/log/asl.db
    3. sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.syslogd.plist
    4. Restart your computer
The first command stops syslogd, which is one of the main processes responsible for logging. The second command removes the (possibly) corrupt database. The third command restarts syslogd. Step #4 might not be strictly necessary for things to start working again in your Console app, but upon boot up, your system will recreate the asl.db database.
Please note: always be careful when removing files from system directories, and take what you read in these discussion boards with a grain of salt. If you don't feel comfortable in the Terminal, for example, it's better to ask for alternate solutions than to perform tasks that you are not accustomed to.

  • Console.app - All Messages contains only one day

    Hi everyone,
My problem is the following: When I start Console.app the range of Messages displayed is: 2013-03-13 14:29:10 to 2013-03-13 22:24:07. So there are 4000 Entries from last month from exactly one day. All other logs are working perfectly the way they schuld but this one seems to be messed up.
What can I do to fix this?

Did some more "research": I just ran "syslog" in terminal.
    This is the last message:
    Mar 19 22:24:03 Martins-MacBook-Pro.local iTunes[471] <Notice>: 2013-03-19 10:24:03.917460 PM [AVSystemController] Stopping AirPlay
So it looks like syslog is causing the problem because Cosole.app is taking it's data from there....

  • Console displaying old messages only

My console (console log or "all messages") displays only messages from february 11 to march 6 somehow. This varies a bit, sometimes I open it and it shows up to march 7, sometimes only up to march 3.
    They still are 4000 messages.
I tried to make a new log request showing "messages after june 13th", but nothing is shown.
The system.log works though, it displays messages of today and a couple of days back.
Any idea? I already repaired the permissions.

The full results would be pages long. Here's an excerpt:

    Hello,
While I add the Speed Dial  numbers, I get "database update error" error message. On Cisco website  the solution is disabling the Antivirus. But it still gives me the same  error message although I disabled my antivirus!!!
    I use CUBAC Version 3.1.1.519

    Hi,
Have you tried rebooting the CUBAC server?

  • VMM2012 SP1 console giving error message when trying to assign logical networks

    Hello,
we are encountering the following Situation.
I have a new Hyper-V Cluster (2012) with at that time two nodes.
When I try to configure the Logical Network connectivity on a virtual Switch (Preparing the use of multiple VLANs) it works on one of the nodes but on the other one we are getting the following error message:
    Virtual Machine Manager
VMM is unable to process one of the provided parameters for the cmdlet (Set-SCVMHostNetworkAdapter):
Cannot convert 'System.Object[]' to the type 'Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManager.HostNetworkAdapter' required by parameter 'VMHostNetworkAdapter'. Specified method is not supported.
    ID: 12416
Does anyone has an idea what I am missing here?
    Thank you
    Sascha

Could it be possible that your network adapter does not support VLAN tagging?
I've run into this issue in my lab using consumer oriented NICs and trying to VLAN networking. A good test would be to do the following:
    Go to Hyper-V Manager
Create a Virtual Switch and set it to a VLAN.
Do you get an error message? If so, your NIC (or NIC driver) does not support VLAN tagging. If not, then you are fine and you have a problem with VMM somewhere.
This issue can also occur due to bad drivers on a NIC card as well.  However, for troubleshooting purposes, you will want to go down to the lowest level (Hyper-V Manager) to make sure that this isn't a Hyper-V issue and really is a VMM issue.
    Hope this helps!

  • Visual Studio 2013 Update 4 - VSTest.console Output SDOUT Messages DURING Test Run, NOT After Test Run Completes

I am using vstest.console.exe and running a test from our internal CI build system, our internal CI build system requires console standard out to be updated at least every 30 minutes to
ensure that the process has not hung.
I am executing the following command using a customer logger and test settings files:
    vstest.console.exe /testcasefilter:"TestCategory=LongTest" /settings:"C:\testing\CodedUI.testsettings" /logger:TRX /logger:CodedUITestLogger "C:\AppTests\CodedUITest.dll" /InIsolation
I have copied and modified the following custom logger(see
    here for more info):
    https://github.com/ppiotrowicz/AwesomeLogger
Such that after the test is executed the pass/fail/success information is printed to the standard out console.
    Tests run: 1, Errors: 0, Failures: 0, Inconclusive: 0, Time: 00:00:87.9331298 minutes
    Not run: 0, Invalid: 0, Ignored: 0, Skipped: 0
It's important to be clear that the test run takes 90 minutes, it's a long running test.
    Time: 00:00:87.9331298 minutes
When the test run is executed for 90 minutes I see the following and our CI build system kills the process after 30 minutes of no output, so in the failure log I see:
    vstest.console.exe /testcasefilter:"TestCategory=LongTest" /settings:"C:\testing\CodedUI.testsettings" /logger:TRX /logger:CodedUITestLogger C:\AppTests\CodedUITest.dll
Microsoft (R) Test Execution Command Line Tool Version 12.0.31101.0
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Running tests in C:\testing\bin\debug\TestResults
    Starting test execution, please wait...
However I have a data-driven codedUI test pulling from a csv data source, that successfully executes, however the test takes 90 minutes to run....which means that for 90 minutes the console output displayed is only:
    Running tests in C:\testing\bin\debug\TestResults
    Starting test execution, please wait...
How can I have vstest.console output to standard out DURING the test run to the console?
Is there a way in the .testsettings file to enable more verbose logging
    DURING the test execution?
In MSTest it was possible to use the parameter (/detail:stdout) which would display info while the test was running.
    MSTEST /testcontainer:MyDllToTest.dll /testSettings.local.TestSettings /detail:stdout

    Hi,
The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

  • TS2755 I am trying to find a message from 2012 and when I load previous messages it only goes back so far then the program quits and sends me to the home ( main) screen. How can I find the message and get around this?

I am trying to access a message from early 2012. When I load previous messages It will only go back to oct 2012 and then the program stops and kicks my to the home page. Anyone know how I can get to the message? Thanks.

    Try Spotlight Search
    1. From any Home screen page of iPad, drag your finger down anywhere on the center of Home screen.
    2. Spotlight search will now appear and you can search for apps, texts, or any other content you'd like just as you did on previous versions of iOS.

  • Dragged the line tween message list and preview pane so far up that i can't get the double arrow to drag it back down; now the window is only 10% for mess. list

I like to keep my window about 60% message pane - above the line - and 40% for the open message. To see an entire message, I resized the panes with the double arrow. No more double arrow and it's 80% open message and 20% list of messages.
Also, since I have you, Can Lightning show an event on the monthly grid Without Adding the time in the box, or at least allow something like 7p or 2:30p, e.g. ? Thank you for what you do!
    Susan

Try F8 to get control of the message pane.
As far as the Lightning question, are you wanting to shorten the time so that more of the description is displayed?

  • Apple's "Installer.app" hangs before installing new apps or updates

I can't install any software that uses Apple's proprietary Installer.app. The version I have is Version 3 (276). It always hangs as soon as I click the Install button, resulting in the Spinning Beachball of Death. My only recourse is to Force Quit. Repairing permissions hasn't helped. The VISE installer has no such problem. And hours of digging thru Apple support and other online forums have been fruitless.
Why can't I address this problem directly to an Apple support tech??? I'm not getting any customer service at all!

Take a look in the Console to see if any useful error messages are being thrown (Applications / Utilities / Console -- select "All Messages").
Does it get as far as asking for your Administrator password to do the install? If not, then you may have something screwed up in your Administrator privileges. There are quite a few threads here discussing variations on that theme in Leopard. Are you having any other Administrator privilege issues (e.g., making System Preferences changes)?
The installer uses a number of plug-in bundles. Any chance one off those might be missing (or moved) or corrupted?
In addition to repairing permissions, have you tried the other basic maintenance steps of resetting PRAM and also doing a Verify Disk in Disk Utility?
