Email Button format

I have created a form with an email button, however it attaches the file in XML and I would like it to be sent as PDF.  Can someone direct me to where I change this.  Using Acrobat Pro 8
Thank you
Gary

OK. Normally I'd send you over to the LiveCycle Designer forum, but it hasn't been working today. What you need to do is use a regular button, as opposed to an email submit button. Then open the Object palette for the button and select the Submit tab. There you'll see where you can enter a URL and select the "Submit As" format. Just choose PDF for the latter. For the URL, use a mailto type URL like:
mailto:[email protected]
making sure to keep "mailto" in lower-case and don't include any spaces.

    hello, firefox 19 has introduced its own integrated pdf viewer - if you want to switch back to the plugin you've used before to view pdfs just go to firefox options > applications & define the default action for the ''portable document format (pdf)''.

  • Submit By Email button not working in FireFox 25.0.1

    If the form is saved to desktop or opened in IE, we are not seeing any issues. However, when clicking on the submit by email button in in FireFox 25.0.1, a pop-up appears to choose the default email program or a web email program. We use Outlook and it is set by default. After checking the Outlook option, the form freezes for about a minute and the email window with the PDF attached never appears.
    I'm using the built-in Submit By Email button in Livecycle Designer 9.
    <event name="event__click" activity="click">

  • Email button in forms

    I have created some forms using Adobe Acrobat 8 , I have added an email button, the problem I am having is that when I send the email is is sent as a xml and not as a PDF? I save the document as a s PDF but something happens when I send it
    Any help would be appreciated.

    E-mail is not recommended for form submission. If you are working with forms in a controlled environment where you can set the properties of the e-mail clients, then it is viable. However, for general use you will likely have trouble due to the variety of e-mail clients and their setup. This is the same problem that HTML forms has with mailto submissions.
    Submitting as a PDF restricts the clients to Acrobat (not Reader) unless you activate live-cycle. This is because the form has to be saved with the data which is not a general property of Reader. This will work with AR8 only I think and is limited to 500 submissions. If you want more, you need to purchase the commercial product that can be many thousands of $$.
    If you are getting XML or FDF feedback, just open those in Acrobat. They will bring up the original form (assuming they can find the form) and fill it in. That saves a lot on needed data transmission and gives the same result. To change the submission, you have to go to the properties of the submission button and change the format.

  • Dynamic Email Button

    Hi Everyone
    I know how to setup a Dynamic Email button which will format the Body of the Email using \n  and some of the others like \t and \r but are there others? Is there a way to control the font size, color, or alignment like centering? Thank you in advance.

    I tried that but it is interesting that if I create a new message in outlook it is in a format of
    html and if I use the email button in the pdf it creates it in plain text which just displays the text in this format.
    <html>/n/n/n<body>/n <p>/n <center>Center</center>/n </p>/n </body>/n </html>/n
    Any suggestions?
    the control used to open outlook and attach is
    this.mailDoc({bUI: true, cTo: cToAddr, cCc: cCCAddr,
                      cSubject: cSubLine, cMsg: cBody});

  • Issues with LiveCycle ES4 - "Distribute Form" greyed out and "email button" not functioning

    Bought this software on 8/1/13.
    Designed my first form, "saved to repository" and proceeded to test. The email function for whatever reason does not work. Went back and examined the properties to the button, I have it set up correctly. In fact the XMS format works perfect, but I want the form to come via PDF when emailed. This feature is not coming through on email.
    I am not sure if the above two issues are related however I did read that in the stand-alone software, the "distribute form" is not offerred which I wonder if this the reason it is greyed out.
    Can anyone help me work through the "email button" issue?

  • Designer8..The Send Email button function gives an Error

    I created a name and address form and a dropdown combo in AA9 then saved and closed it.
    I then opened it in designer 8 and placed a "send by Email" button and closed it.
    I then opened the pdf file in Reader 9 (as a user would) Then filled out the form and clicked the "send by Email" button (sent to myself) it arrived as an .xml attachment and would not open....Just gave this error message
    Adobe Reader could not open 'poolcuetip_data(1).xml' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example. it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
    Is there a Fix for this error (tried it several times)
    OR
    Can I put a send email button on the Acrobat form without having to open in Designer ? If so How ??????
    TIA
    Tony

    There are many restrictions on submit by email and they vary by the code used to perform the submit. If you use the builtin "mailXXXX" method the user must have Windows and and a MAPI enabled email client. And if you use the URI "mailto" format the user with Reader must be viewing the PDF from within a web browser. And then you have the timing problems with slow computers or larger PDF forms. And this does not even start to cover email filters, identity issues and son on.
    If you can use the sumbit to server script.

  • No XML file attachment when using Submit by Email button

    Hello all -
    I'm using LiveCycle Designer 8.0 to create a simple form, and am using the Submit by Email button to return the user supplied data. When I save the form and test it with Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.1, the email goes through just fine, but there is no attachment. No XML file, no nothing. Just a blank email with my signature block at the bottom. Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas on what could be wrong? All I want is the XML file.

    You have multiple options to sending whole PDF format.
    1) Set the submit button to submit whole PDF format by using a mailto: [email protected] in the submit button action URL.
    2) Set the submit button to fire a javascript that submits whole PDF format. See Adobe's Javascript reference guide for instructions.
    Note: Methods #1 and #2 require Adobe Acrobat or Extended Reader Rights; because, Adobe Reader users are restricted to submitting just the data formats; such as FDF,XML, XFDF, XDP, and HTML. Beware extending reader rights to a PDF form using Adobe Acrobat places end user EULA restrictions, such as not more than 500 end user submissions for each form.
    My Recommendations:
    #3) Set the submit button to point to a URL of a server-side script; such as ASP.net. Then set the format to a data format; such as FDF, XML, XFDF, or XDP; and use ASP.net and iTextSharp (Free) to merge the data with a blank PDF form; and attach the submission to an outbound SMTP mail message and send without 3rd party email software such as MS OUTLOOK.
    #4) A combination of #1 and #3; where you enable usage rights on the PDF using Adobe Acrobat; and send to a server-side script which bypasses client-side email software.
    Check out the following website for online examples that submit to a server side script:

  • "Send email" button in Captivate 5.5 quiz

    I am trying to get the results of a completed Captivate 5.5 quiz emailed to me from other people's computers, after they complete the quiz. The Send email button does nothing (no error message and no email). The quiz has been published in each of: PDF, Flash and HTML and the email button does not work in any of them.
    After looking at postings on several forums, it appears that the problem may be a bug in Captivate or possibly a setting that needs to be changed in Flash player. The problem is that if it is necessary to change the Flash player settings, I can't do this on another user's computer, so this will never work.
    In another project, I have used the send email button in Acrobat LiveCycle and that works perfectly well (opens an email message and attaches the information from the current Acrobat file as an XML attachment) - what's the problem with Captivate?
    Steve

    The problem isn't Captivate.  It's the whole concept of using email as a 'reliable' reporting mechanism.
    You are correct that this 'feature' will not work if you're trying to use it from published content in a folder on your local drive or a LAN server unless that folder has been added as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings.
    You are also correct that it would be either impossible or impractical to try and change these settings on each end user's PC.  To have any chance of success, your best output format for this would be HTM/SWF/JS and you should be considering delivering the content only from a web server, not a LAN or other type of drive.
    However, even if you do everything right, email reporting (as you found with LiveCycle forms) still has many limitations and should be considered unreliable.  There are too many ways it can fail, and most of those ways are outside your control.  Added to this is the fact that since the solution requires the user to send the email message and not change any data first, it's really NOT all that secure.  You could not hope to use it for courses where serious certification was a must.
    The only times I have used it successfully with Captivate required a custom-coded web page (PHP) on a web server (Apache or IIS) that was used to dynamically send the email after receiving data in an encoded URL.  Basically, the Captivate module would call this web page and the page would add the data from the URL variables to build the email.  However, this is NOT standard Captivate functionality.  I went this route because the client's LMS was only a few weeks away and they needed a very temporary solution.  I would avoid doing something similar again unless there were no other available solution.

  • "Sumbit Email" button, and generating a pdf file

    I would like to use the SUMBIT EMAIL button to send a pdf file of the completed form. I understand that is sends a data file, that has to be imported back into the form template on the other end.
    Is there a way to autmoate this process, or jsut simply send the completed form in pdf format?
    Thanks,

    In order to email the filled-out PDF with the data in it, you need to be able to save the form.
    Reader only allows you to save an empty form...if you try to save a filled-out form you will lose
    all of the data you entered into it. For this reason, you need one of two options...
    1) Purchase Adobe Acrobat for all of the sales people. Acrobat will allow you to save and submit a
    filled-out form. The steps involved would be:
    - Design your form in Designer and save it as a PDF. Set the properties on the submit button so
    it will submit the entire PDF.
    - Deploy the PDF File to your end users.
    - End user opens the form in Acrobat.
    - End user fills out the form and submits it. The filled-out PDF file will be attached to the
    email.
    2) Purchase Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions. With this product, you can reader-enable your
    document so that users can submit the filled-out form with Acrobat Reader. The steps involved in
    this case would be:
    - Design your form in Designer and save it as a PDF. Set the properties on the submit button so
    it will submit the entire PDF.
    - Reader-enable the form by running it through Reader Extensions Server and enabling the rights
    to save form data.
    - Deploy the reader-enabled PDF File to your end users.
    - End user opens the form in Acrobat Reader.
    - End user fills out the form and submits it. The filled-out PDF file will be attached to the
    email.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem with Submit via Email Button

    When I open the PDF on my desktop and click the submit button it gives me the option of internet or desktop email program.  Both of those work fine.  But when I load the pdf onto my website, open the form from there and try to submit it neither option works.
    1.  When I click the Desktop Email Application - nothing at all happens.  (we use groupwise)
    2. When I click the internet email button it asks me to name the file but then when i try to save it i get this error: Acrobat Could not open the file XXXXXXXXX  Detailed Error: A file error has occured.
    Here is a link to the form: http://csa.niu.edu/extprograms/_pdf/arts/CSA%20Live%20Reg%20v3.pdf
    PS - Also it does not work in chrome or firefox which is annoying you have to use IE.  If you have thoughts about how to fix that I would appreciate it!  I tried lowering the adobe version from 9 to 8 which did nothing and when i lowered it to 7 it displayed but nothing worked in the form.
    Any help would be awesome!
    Thank You!

    Here's a link with instructions on how to enable Adobe Reader as the default PDF Reader, and disable each browsers default PDF "Viewers".
    Acrobat Help | Display PDF in browser | Acrobat, Reader XI
    IE doesn't have a built in PDF Viewer, and other browser's PDF Viewers such as Chrome and FF, don't allow submissions.
    Note: Adobe Reader users need to have the form's usage rights extended so Adobe Reader users can submit PDF format. Otherwise, Adobe Reader users are limited to submitting data formats only (FDF, XML, XFDF, XDP), not the whole PDF.
    Also: For compatibility and security reasons you should set the submit button URL to point to a server-side script such as PHP or ASP.net, and bypass client-side email software.

  • Email Button Functionality

    Hi,
    I have written following email script on button(not Email button). The problem is the functionality is not working in Adobe Acrobat Reader version and it is working fine in Adobe Acrobat pro and Adobe Standard
    var mail;
    var saddress = "[email protected]";
    var subj = "Test Subject";
    mail = "mailto: " + saddress + "?Subject=" + subj;
    event.target.submitForm({
    cURL: mail,
    bEmpty: true,
    cSubmitAs: "PDF",
    cCharset: "utf-8"
    Can someone please help where I have done wrong.
    Thank you in advance
    Regards,
    Jayakar

    Jayakar:
    Adobe Reader users can only submit XDP, FDF, XFDF, XML formats unless the form has Usage Rights Enabled in Reader.
    However, if you can only submit XDP, FDF, XFDF, or XML, you can merge the PDF submit response with a blank PDF form on a server by submitting to a server side script, and attach the merged document to an e-mail message and send via SMTP server without Client-Side email software such as Outlook.

  • When I try to forward a PDF file by using the email button on the toolbar, it won't send.

    I cannot always forward a PDF using the email button on the toolbar.  For example, I get a report forwarded to me as a link.  When I open the link, the document opens as a PDF.  I use the email button on the toolbar to forward the document as an attachment.  Outlook pops up as a new message with the attachment.  I finish writing my email and hit the "send" button and I get an error saying the doucment couldn't be sent.  If I close the email and save it as a draft, I can open the draft copy and it will send.  Is there someway to fix this so I can eliminate these extra steps?  This has happened on a computer with Adobe Reader as well as a computer with Adobe Acrobate 9 Standard.

    teresah7680 wrote:

    Is that the exact message that Outlooks gives you?
    Anyway, why don't you just forward the original link to the document, instead of the PDF itself?
