Email Icon on Ipad 2

When using the email icon. i can read and see the email but i cannot reply to it. When i use safari i can do everything. Suggestions?

Check the mail account settings and make sire you have the correct password entered for the account.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Tap on the Mail Account Name>Advanced - check your password and make sure Use SSL is set to On.

So the problem is with the iPhone 4. What can I do to get rid of the number and make my mail operational?

I would start with taking a look at the settings to make sure that you are able to send and receive messages. If everything looks good then the next step would be to remove the accounts and add them back in. I cannot get yahoomail through the email icon on my iPad since this morning. Gmail works and yahoomail works on iphone and if I go through safari and yahoo, works ok on iPad. I changed password, deleted account and restarted account, turned iPad on and off and still no mail

My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.

On the iPhone, tap Settings.

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.

Even though my email accounts seem to be set up when i press the email icon it comes up with Icloud, EOL etc like it is not set up. When you press on icloud and put in details it says the account is already set up.
Email had been set up and receiving and sending email but seems that no longer working. Have i bumped something and how do i fix it.

How can I read an email on my iPad and have it not be marked as read?

I have an Exchange account set up on my iPad for my work email. My email is partly organized such that I look at unread emails (whether or not I've actually read them) for actions required. However, when I tap an email on my iPad, it is automatically marked as read as soon as it comes up in the reading pane. I do realize I can tap a button to have it marked as unread, but I want the default to be that an email is not marked as read. Any feedback?

On the iPad, using the mail app, there is no way to do what you are asking without tapping the flag icon and marking the item as unread. Have you tried the OWA app for the iPad? It may have that functionality, but I haven't tested it as you need an Office 365 subscription with Exchange support to use the app.

Thank you for your reply, sorry for the VERY late late response, but I have just figured out how to control this separate 'panel'. I find it really useful for monitoring Google Analytics in as it can just sit there running. It does have its limitations, as it's a limited size (you can't expand it to full screen view), so you can only ever see a vertical section of a website and need to scroll to look to the right or left, but I have the live view of people accessing my website running on there and if the numbers start racking up at any time, I can scroll to look and see what pages they are accessing, where they've been referred from, etc.
To get it to work, you save a website address in the Bookmarks Toolbar and when you can see it sitting on the toolbar at the top of the screen with its little icon, right click on it then click 'properties', then tick the box 'Load this bookmark in the sidebar'. The next time you click on this bookmark to open the website, it will load in this sidebar, which looks like a separate 'window' but is immovable. You can only have one sidebar application running at a time, but can change it by right clicking on the bookmark you want to load in there and it will then change to that one next time you click on that bookmark.
I hope this might be useful to others, as I asked for help with this on loads of forums and not one person knew that this existed - even really skilled techies!

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

How to edit email residing in iPad Mail Outbox?

I tried to send an email from my iPad, but one of the recipients was invalid, so Mail put the email in my Outbox. When I attempted to correct the invalid address, I could find no way to edit the email from the Outbox, nor could I find a way to move the email to my Drafts box for editing.
I was, however, able to move the email to my Inbox, and then work with it in Mail on my synced MacBook Pro, where I had plenty of options, but surely there must be a way to do it on the iPad?

I tried everything in this thread to no avail. The "Done" button would not appear. This is how I had success: From Home, I swiped the screen to the right to the search screen and searched for "Mail." The "Mail" icon was in the list of items. When I tapped on the mailbox, the attachment showed up again. However, emails in the "mail" also showed up. I tapped on the most recent one and was back into all of my emails. The attachment was circumvented.

Latest update no sound for text, email, plugging in ipad

since the latest update a couple of days ago my iPad sounds will not work. I mean the ones for incoming text messages, emails, plugging the iPad in- ALL STANDARD SOUNDS OFFERED BY APPLE NOT downloaded sounds! This is very frustrating. I think that you have system sounds muted.
If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7 or iOS 8. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

Email icon and issues

When I try to use my IPAD email icon the screen appears and the goes away. I have tried the minus sign solution an reset, still won't work?

Could be many things, we should start with this...

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

If the iPad froze - Try this first - reset the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If mail froze but the iPad is OK. Quit mail and restart. Tap the home button once to go to the home screen. Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar with recent apps at the bottom. Find the mail app. Tap and hold down on the mail icon until it wiggles. Tap the red minus sign to close the mail app. Tap the screen above the task bar to return to the home screen.
Restart the iPad - hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut down. Hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears to power up again. Try Mail again.
