Embed SWF in Firefox & Safari is Tiny

I am using some swf files as buttons in flex as follows, and
they look fine in Firefox when testing from Flex Builder, and in
IE(6&7) when run, but in Firefox & Safari the embedded swf
are tiny, 1px high and a few wide when I view them from a web
server. I can click them and they work, but I have no idea what is
causing them to be so miniscule just in Firefox.
[Embed(source="../assets/MostRecent.swf")]
[Bindable]
public var btnMostRecentSWF:Class;
<mx:Image id="most_recent_btn"
source="{btnMostRecentSWF}" width="95" y="20" x="0"
useHandCursor="true" buttonMode="true"
click="onNavClick('mostrecent')"/>
Any ideas would be appreciated. I've tried loading with and
without SWFObject, getting rid of various attributes, etc. I almost
want to say that Flex thinks the buttons are sitting in a stage
800x630 (the app size) or something and is then scaling them down
to fit in the space provided.
Using Flex Builder 3 M2 (tried with 2.01 hotfix as well).
Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem with a Flex app in Firefox when
running from a remote server. The page opens, but the swf file is
just a strip across the top of the page. I know there's a problem
with Firefox when the app is sized to width=100% and height=100%,
but I want the app to be able to re-size. I also discovered there
is a DOCTYPE issue with Firefox and Flex. If you add a doctype to
your html wrapper, things will look fine in IE, but not work in
Firefox. I haven't found (yet) a good solution, other than to have
the page without a DOCTYPE (works fine then) and I want to be
standards compliant.
If I find an answer, I'll let you know.

  • Generated html does not open in firefox/safari when embed in an iframe

    Hello,
       I have been meddling with robohelp for a few weeks now. I can generate a html site from a Framemaker book fine. This is embed in an <iframe> to integrate it into our website. It works correctly on chrome. However on firefox/safari all I get is ' '. On viewing the source, it becomes apparent that this wierd bunch of characters appears before the <html>. I looked into the actual html generated and I see this tag <feff> prefixed before <html> in every file. Naturally, I went ahead and removed it and the page now loads correctly on firefox/safari. However, the bullets are all messed up. I read a post somewhere which said <feff> contains some information about css classes.
    I use Technical Comm Suite-3.5(full version). The webhelp html is generated using the publish functionality from framemaker using a saved *.isf settings file.
    So how do I fix this? Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks

    The "weird bunch of characters" is known as the BOM (Byte Order Mark). The problem is on the server.
    I saw the same thing when first using RoboHelp 8 and this is what I was advised by the company hosting my site.
    "I would therefore conclude that the solution to this problem (on Linux systems running Apache) is to add the AddDefaultCharset utf-8 directive to either the Apache config or the site .htaccess file. The advantage of the latter is that it only affects individual sites. The default Apache character set is taken from the locale file on Linux and defaults to iso-8859-1. It is the conflict between the Apache header with iso-8859-1 and the page character set of utf-8 that obviously causes Firefox a problem."
    In a forum post Chrissy_Tissy added
    My machine is Windows, but this fix still worked  - some notes about making the fix visible:
    1. Do the fix itself (httpd.conf: AddDefaultCharset utf-8).
    2. Restart the box to apply the fix.
    3. Once the box is restarted, clear your cache in FireFox to make sure you don't continue to see the cached file.
    Once all this is done you will see the output content as expected.

  • Sessions not working in Firefox, Safari and Chrome, but working in iexplore

    Hi,
    I have been running Tomcat 5.0.18 jdk 1.4. and have just upgraded to Tomcat 6.0.24 jdk 1.6..
    I have an app that you need to log on to in a jsp page. When succesfully logged in it redirects to a framed page with 3 pages in it.
    All elements of that framed page check for a valid session, if there is one, it displays itself, if not, it redirects back to the log on screen.
    This has worked fine for years in all browsers. But since upgrading, in Firefox, Safari and Chrome, when the parent framed page jsp checks for a session, its fine, it passes, but when the other sub-frame pages check for a session, it comes back as a new session, i.e. its not picking up the session that has just been validated and redirects to the login page. Iexplore still works fine. i.e. all 3 pages validate ok.
    Any ideas why these browsers are not pickng up the session?

    As a test, try putting an empty JSP in front of it that triggers the session to be created, and then redirects (with a HTTP meta refresh for example) to the frameset jsp to see if that fixes anything.
    If that fixes it, then I guess the pages load too quickly.

  • How to embed swf in fla?

    can anyone help me how to embed swf to an fla?

    If the swf has actionscript in it, then you cannot embed it and still have it work (it will lose its code), so you need to load the file dynamically instead.

  • Page looks funny in IE, looks fine in Chrome, Firefox, Safari

    Hi Everyone,
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This page looks fine in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, but the formatting gets screwed up in Internet Exploder. Since I'm on a mac, checking is rather difficult for me. Aside from fixes to the code to get this to display properly, does anyone have any advice as to how to check stuff in IE from a mac, aside from 1) buying a PC or 2) asking PC friends to take screen shots? Here's the link:
    http://www.sarahegeller.com/suggested.html
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Ok, that is weird.  It seems to only be altering IE 8.  I did a screenshot test of IE 7 and looked at it in 9 and it doesn't seem to be affected.
    I had run your page through the validator before and only came up with unnecessary code for tracing and missing alt tags.  Here is the block of code that first seems to be affected:
    <td valign="top" class="style9"><span class="style12">Astor Piazzolla (Arg.)<br />
    Alberto Ginastera (Arg.)<br />
    Camargo Guarnieri (Brazil)<br />
    Juan Orrego-Salas (Chile)<br />
    Paquito D’Rivera (Cuba)<br />
    Joaquín Nin (Cuba)<br />
    Carlos Chavez (Mex.)<br />
    <br />
    Manuel Ponce (Mex.)<br />
    <br />
    Silvestre Revueltas (Mex.) <br />
    Ricardo Lorenz (Venezuela)<br />
    Manuel de Falla (Spain)/ Arr. Kochanski<br />
    Xavier Montsalvatge (Spain)</span></td>
    I then look at "class='style9'" and "class="style12" right after that:
    .style12 {     font-size: 8pt;
         font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
         line-height: 12pt;
         background-color: #FFFFFF;
         color: #000000;
         font-weight: normal;
    .style9 {font-size: 9pt;
         font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
         font-weight: bolder;
         color: #0099FF;
         text-align: right;
    This tells me that you are not very familiar with code because DW created 2 classes named "style#".  As you can see, both classes are defined, and both want different things, one is 9pt the other 8, one is normal font-weight, the other is bold, but both are defined on the same element.  I see a pattern of this throughout your page which leads to apdivs that don't seem to have a purpose and a long line of <br /> tags to insert line breaks and create spacing instead of using margins and padding.  Most here will argue that while DW is a great tool, a knowledge of HTML & CSS will always be better.  Overall, I don't see any need for anything more complex than 3 styles; one for blue header, one for bold header and one for body text.  Then insert your header 1, header 2, body text, and then put the following content inside table and repeat.
    Based on what is there, in order to solve the problem efficiently, I would recommend starting at your template file (assuming you are using one, if not you should look at it for this type of layout).  Then re-layout the body content on the page with the template in tact using the suggestions above.  I would also recommend giving the below tutorial a quick read through in case some of the CSS comments I made did not make sense.

  • Spry displaying in Firefox & Safari, but not in IE

    Ok, so I was trying to replicate one of the demos: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/rssreader/index.html
    Except that we're running on a LAMP platform which meant I had to rerwite the ColdFusion into PHP. I'm hoping the PHP isn't the issue, seeing as this wouldn't be the forum for correcting that problem.
    Here's the page I'm working on: http://www.darton.edu/ol-or/new.php
    It works just fine in Firefox & Safari, but when I get to IE, I get the "Failed to load feed items!" error.
    I can read the feeds in IE, but for some reason it won't display them.
    The core of the feeds.php I wrote:
    $xmlstr = trim(file_get_contents('LiveFeeds.xml'));
    $mydoc = new SimpleXMLElement($xmlstr);
    foreach($mydoc->feed as $feed)
      if($feed['id'] == $id)
       $url = $feed['url'];
       $curl_handle=curl_init();
       curl_setopt($curl_handle, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
       curl_setopt($curl_handle, CURLOPT_HTTPGET, TRUE);
       curl_setopt($curl_handle, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, array ("Content-type: text/xml; charset=utf-8"));
       /*$buffer = */ return curl_exec($curl_handle);
       curl_close($curl_handle);
       //return $buffer;
    Firefox and Safari aren't having a problem at all, everything is processing correctly. I thought, after reading some in the forum that the Headers were the issue, but as far as I can tell, the cURL HTTP Header feature is working as it's supposed to.
    I feel like I'm beating my head against a brick wall at this point.
    I just need guidence at this point, at least a shove in the right direction would be helpful.
    Many thanks in advance.

    The XML file seems to be in order.
    I do notice that IE has a problem with SpryData.js which points to interference from other JS. For a start, place xpath.js after SpryData.js.
    If this does not solve the problem, try placing both of the above files before any other JS files.

  • Problem with embed swf in fla

    hallo,
    I am trying to embed an SWF into an FLA (My website)
    I want to embed an SWF movie on page 4 of my website along with other content.
    There are a lot of tutorials on the web, but to be honest, I get so confused, a lof of them have errors so I figured i'd ask here if anyone knows of a good, simple tutorial on how to embed SWF in FLA.
    thanks so much.

    The mask would be a separate layer that sits above the layer your animation is in.  So if you right clicked the layer the animation is in and selected mask, then that's not masking it, it turning it into a mask.  What you want to do is create another layer above it and draw a rectangle that would be the same size as the stage of the swf.  Then if you right click that layer it and select mask, the rectangle will be the mask for the anoimation--allowing only what is beneath it to be viewed.

  • "Firefox/Safari unexpectedly quits"

    I have a mac mini, and when ever I run a video clip, or play an internet game whilst I have other things running in the background The error message flashes up:"Firefox/Safari unexpectedly quits", then the browser quits.
    I think this is a ram problem (I have 512mgb of ram) but I wonderd if I could get around the problem without buying a new ram card.
    Please help.
    Lox
    Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    When I see something like that, it's sometimes worth trashing the .plist file. For Firefox, you'd go to library/preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist and send it to the trash. That does erase any preference settings, however, I've seen applications where a .plist gets corrupt and causes problems. (If you have OnyX or preferential treatment, you can have them check your plists to see if any are corrupt, too). If that doesn't fix Firefox, then pull Firefox to the trash, erase the plist if not deleted automatically, and reinstall Firefox version 1.5.0.1.
    Safari's .plist file is com.apple.safari.plist. Erase and see if that helps.
    I'm not saying, however, that RAM may not have something to do with the issue, it's just having applications unexpectedly quit is sometimes a simple plist fix.

  • Firefox/Safari page div issues...

    Hi ,
       I have a “center-align” issue in most browsers – actually – the only one I’m sure it works in so far is IE 8 – but not sure why?
    Within my dev site, The footer is centered with the content on all pages (as it should be) – with the exception of the homepage. In the content area of the homepage is a javascript which has a “slider” feature to scroll through a few images – and for some reason it causes the footer to align to the left side of the page:
    http://www.thecreativeadvantage.com/2011_redesign/
    Secondarily (sorry) on my video pages – the video player was aligned far left – but it seemed to fix when I added a new div above it with a “sub-navigation” set of text links within – the video recentered with that in place. Not sure why, but not complaining. Now I can’t seem to get this sub-navigation to center above the video player in Firefox, Safari, etc…
    http://www.thecreativeadvantage.com/2011_redesign/gallery-vid-corporate.html
    I know the answer is hidden in the css - Any assistance or advice on this would be greatly appeciated!
    Thanks so much,
    Jesse

    Hi John,
       Thanks for taking the time to look - I'm not sure that's it... all of the pages are built from a template, with the header and footer "locked", and only the "main content" area is editable. The bottom of all pages (homepage included) has the closing div for the container outside of the footer, so something else is amiss - I just can't seem to place a finger on it...
    <!-- end #footer --></div>
    <!-- end #container --></div>
    </body>
    I appreciate the suggestion though, and the time spent to check! I've temporarily moved on to the other centering issue as this one is driving me crazy... :{D

  • How do I stop Finder, Firefox, Safari windows "auto-maximizing"

    I have searched the internet, the Apple websites, MacRumors, a bunch of other "Answers" type sites, trolled my settings and still can't find an answer to this or even explain it properly.
    On my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini I am having issues with the finder windows/firefox/safari windows maximizing when I drag them close to the Finder Bar at the top of my screen. I want to know if there is a way to turn this off?
    I have recently wiped and reformatted my MacBook Pro 13" and installed Lion OS X 10.7 on it (Mac Mini is also running this OS) and it doesn't have this feature "enabled". I want to know if there is a setting that I have overlooked or if it is possible to turn this feature off. I have looked in the Finder Preferences as well as every category in the System Preferences and can't seem to locate anywhere that I can select this feature.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Lanny..  I looked through all my third party applications (app store stuff) as well and there doesn't seem to be any third party software or UI that's overlaying on top of Lion.. I have combed my mini and can't find anything that is causing this.. any other ideas?

    every time I try to use internet, the application(firefox/safari/chrome) stop working but when I use the modem on windows it works great. whats the problem?

    I just spoke with Tesco technical support (having been transferred to them by Clubcard support), who told me that the problems people are experiencing when visiting the Tesco site via Safari aren't currently being addressed because "not enough people have called to complain about it".
    I asked what percentage of people he thought might make the effort to call instead of just giving up. He replied that he would be one of those who just gave up.
    So it would seem that if we would like the problem to be resolved, we each need to take a few moments to CALL TESCO and ensure our complaint is logged by the technical support team.
    Every voice helps
