Embedding JDBC?

Hi,
I'm having trouble trying to execute my JAR build file on a basic Java VM installation. I know that happens because I've used Connector/J to have database connectivity...
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
how can I include that driver in my java program to avoid driver installation in every machine?
Thanks

I've already read Connector/J documentation...No. Read the documentation of the JAR tool. It will tell you how to set the classpath of an executable jar.

    <p>Hi, </p><p>      Unfortunately there currently is no way to pass a JDBC connection to the report at runtime (this would be a great idea to track under the enhancement requests forum section). That being said there are other options you can do to get connection pooling functionality within your application. Probably the easiest way is to use JNDI. This will allow the application server to handle the Connection Pool. There is an optional property of the database connection of a report which allows the report designer to specify a JNDI lookup name. At runtime the report will look for this lookup name first prior to attempting to make the JDBC connection.</p><p>You can look at this comment on another question for instructions on how to set the JNDI optional name:</p><p><u><strong><a href="/node/483#comment-79">http://diamond.businessobjects.com/node/483#comment-79</a></strong></u>  </p><p>Another option is for you to pass in a java.sql.ResultSet at runtime to the report. It sounds like you are already making a JDBC connection at runtime so it shouldn&#39;t be too difficult for you to add the SQL query statement to populate a ResultSet. Once you have the ResultSet populated you can pass it into the report. In fact the wizard which is outlined on the comment listed above has a screenshot of the wizard which will generate the code at runtime to view a report. If you select the option in the wizard to "<strong>Populate the report with a java.sql.ResultSet"</strong> it will generate the necessary code stub to demonstrate how this will work.</p><p>The only downside to passing in the resultset at runtime is that it requires the entire dataset to be populated prior to passing it to the report. If the dataset is relatively small the performance impact will likely be acceptable, however if you start getting in to the tens of thousands of records then you may start seeing some performance implications. </p><p>Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions. </p><p>Regards,<br />Sean Johnson (CR4E Product Manager) </p>

    I don't know if the bug is related to the embedded JDBC driver or with SQLDevelopper. But the update command works well when using it directly with the SQL editor.
    Do you have any hint ?
    Thanks

    This bug becomes annoying because it occurs randomly.
    I found a way to reproduce it every time :
    1. First use the script below:
    DROP TABLE TABLE1;
    CREATE TABLE TABLE1
    (     "ID" NVARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "TYPE" NVARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "VALEUR" NVARCHAR2(255),
         "ORDRE" NUMBER(38,0),
         "PACKAGE" NVARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "LABEL" NVARCHAR2(100),
         "INTERN" CHAR(1 BYTE) DEFAULT 'Y' NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "CRITIC" CHAR(1 BYTE) DEFAULT 'N',
         CONSTRAINT "PK_TABLE1" PRIMARY KEY ("ID") ENABLE
    INSERT INTO TABLE1 (ID, TYPE, VALEUR, ORDRE, PACKAGE, LABEL, INTERN, CRITIC) VALUES ('1', '2', '3', '4', '5', '6', 'Y', 'Y');
    INSERT INTO TABLE1 (ID, TYPE, VALEUR, ORDRE, PACKAGE, LABEL, INTERN, CRITIC) VALUES ('9', '10', '11', '12', '13', '14', 'Y', 'Y');
    INSERT INTO TABLE1 (ID, TYPE, VALEUR, ORDRE, PACKAGE, LABEL, INTERN, CRITIC) VALUES ('17', '18', '19', '20', '21', '22', 'Y', 'Y');
    2. Then try to change the 11 value in the grid editor and commit. There is an ArrayOutOfBoundsException : 2 in the stdout and the 'Data Editor Log' say :
    "One error saving changes to table "TEST"."TABLE1":"
    This bug occurs in every computer (Linux / Windows).
    Can you help me ?
    Thanks,

    I belive you are having problems your JDBC driver.
    Rerun HspSetupSupport.exe and choose the Hyperion Embedded JDBC driver.
    Cheers...!!!I am interested to understand why you believe this is the issue?
    Anyway my questions would be, did the application work before you went through a migration? Do any of the applications work?
    Can you start planning in the foreground so that any information is logged to the command window and then look out for any errors.
    Cheers

  • Memory leak after upgrading to ColdFusion 10

    We recently upgraded from CF8 to CF10 and we're running into some issues.  We started off getting a lot of OutOfMemory errors with the default heap settings. Chaning them to 768MB/1280MB which has helped, but we're still running into occasional OOM issues.  We took a heapdump as the instance was having problems today with blocked threads and noticed the heap usage was near the max so it was probably going to run out of memory soon too.  Below is what the eclipse memory analyzer tool found as a possible leak suspect.  Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here?  Not sure if it's an issue with CF itself or something in the app.  Thanks

    Hi Sharma,
    Here's the settings summary from the console.  The OOM issue is now happening about 1-2 times weekly after increasing the heap size.  Before that it was almost daily.  It seems we can go about 75-85 hours before we restart due to either OOM or blocked threads.

  • Using a database in Sun's "Open Office"

    hi
    I could think this tip is not suitable for this forum, but I didn't find another
    so I try here to have an answer to a my question that, I think, can be interesting for other people too...
    I would see in DataBase section of Sun's "Open Office" the data that my program register in a Derby database.
    My first question is if this is possible..
    If this is possible, my second question is: how to get the connection to the database?
    *In the wizard , there are two components to put information in order to get the connection:
    -(1) URL to the source data: jdbc: .....
    -(2) Class of the driver:*
    I made several tries to get the connection:
    In the textBox (2) I put the path to the derby.jar that I use in the application
    but when I push the button I got the message:
    ------"The driver JDBC wasn't load".------
    Could I have same help about what information I have to put there ?
    About the second input data, I think that in the box (1) I should put the (absolute) path to database that I would have the access..
    but..., way it begin with jdbc: ?
    Thank you for an explanation about what is the mean of the two components where put the input data....
    regards
    tonyMrsangelo

    thank you jshell to spend time with your explanation..
    I try to explain how I am seeing the problem:
    In the Drby manual I read:
    Derby consists of both the database engine and an embedded JDBC driver.
    Applications use JDBC to interact with a database. Applications running on JDK 1.5 or earlier, must load the driver in order to work with the database.
    In an embedded environment, loading the driver also starts Derby.
    In a Java application, you typically load the driver with the static Class.forName method or with the jdbc.drivers system property.
    For example: Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver");In the java code I get a connection with this statements:
        private Connection getConnection(){ //
                String driver = "org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver";  // name of driver.
                try {
                    Class.forName(driver);      // N.B. Derby.jar have to bein the classpath...
                    System.out.println(driver + " loaded. ");
                } catch(java.lang.ClassNotFoundException e)     {
                    System.err.print("ClassNotFoundException: ");
                    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
                    System.out.println("\n    >>> Please check your CLASSPATH variable   <<<\n");
                String  connectionURL = "jdbc:derby:" + path + dbName;
                Connection dbconn  = null;
                try {
                    dbconn = DriverManager.getConnection(connectionURL);  // V.I. too
                    System.out.println("Connected to database " + dbName);
                } catch (SQLException ex) {
                    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, ex.getMessage());
                } catch ( Exception excp ) {              // process remaining Exceptions here
                    excp.printStackTrace();
            return dbconn;
        } // getConnection()At this point I think that I should give to Sun's Open Office the same intormation that I do in the java code ..
    Of course I have to do it with a different syntax....
    I think I have to put:
    in the (1) the value of the String connectionURL
    in the (2) the value of the String driver .
    And to give the classpath to "Sun's Open Office" I should go in the menu option : [tools --> options --> OpenOffice.orgBase -- connection]
    to activate the link with the driver derby.jar...
    It was good for me talking with you was because now I think to see the problem in a more correct way..
    What do you think about ?
    Regards..

  • Java Exception: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError

    Database: oracle11g
    Peoplesoft: peopletools8.52
    I created jdbc connection java program and build it as a jar.
    Placed that jar in an PS_HOME/class, while invoking that jar from peoplecode i am getting the error like:
    Java Exception: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path: during call of packagename.classname

    I'm not sure this is the best forum, perhaps if there is one for jdbc oracle clients it would be better posted there.
    Try searching your Java Exception: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path: error on google.
    Lots of hits come back.
    My guess is just because App Server processes running via Tuxedo have access to the Oracle libraries they need, does not mean your code in the JVM created by the App Server processes do.
    I would double check your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and ensure any required jar files like maybe $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/ojdbc6.jar are in ClassPath setting in the appserver config or copied to the class directory. Have you tested your program independently outside of PeopleSoft and made it work there first? That should indicated what requirements you've created by embedding jdbc into PeopleSoft. I've never tried what your doing though, so I'm just making an educated guess, and I don't know all that might be required.

  • Configure Database Connection to Weblogic 8.1 Connection Pool

    Hi,
    I've got an ADF BC web application which is working find for an embedded JDBC Oracle Database connection. It's Jdeveloper 10.1.2 deployed to Weblogic 8.1.
    Now I'm trying to change the Database connection so it can point to a weblogic connection pool through its JNDI name. The goal is to make .ear file transportable through different weblogic domains and databases, without recompile application.
    I've been trying to configure an "OracleConnectionPoolDataSource" selecting "third party driver" in Database connection wizard, but Jdeveloper throws error: Java Cast Exception, and don't let continue. What else have to do?
    thanks.

    I did that, but WebLogic ignores whatever I configure in Services->JDB->Connection Pools and Data Sources. Even if I remove them the application keeps on running.
    Because the server only reads the connection defined from JDeveloper, which is configured in the connections.xml file placed inside the deployed .ear file.
    I need to change this behaviour, and configure connections.xml pointing to Weblogic Datasource.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • CR4E 1.0 - need help to setup derby driver

    Hello!
    Im trying to follow Getting Started Guide and on the page 11 I see "Go to Database Explorer". CR4E doesn't have this view.
    I go to the "Window -> Preferences ->Connectivity - Driver Definitions" and add a record for Derby Driver 10.1 (Derby Embedded JDBC Driver), as mentioned in Guide, add two jars as driver files (derby.jar and Xtreme.jar from <CR4E folder>\plugins\com.businessobjects.crystalreports.samples_1.0.4.v1094\SampleDatabases), set connecton URL as "jdbc:derby:classpath:/Xtreme;create=true",  DB name as "classpath:/Xtreme" and user id set as "bobj".
    After that in "Data Source Explorer" I've created a new record for Database with type "Derby Embedded Database". Ping test was successful. But after connection I don't see any schemas. And in Eclipse dir file "dreby.log" has been created with following record:
    2009-03-05 09:20:28.250 GMT:
    Booting Derby version The Apache Software Foundation - Apache Derby - 10.1.1.0 - (208786): instance c013800d-011f-d5ef-102b-000002537450
    on database directory classpath:/Xtreme
    Database Class Loader started - derby.database.classpath=''
    How to setup derby driver properly? Can anybody help me? Is there anybody who successful followed this Guide?
    Help will be appriciated.
    Regards, Lev

    Hey Lev,
    I have not done much with Derby so cant help on that side, but for the Data Source Explorer issue, if you go  Window >> Show View >> you should be able to get to the DS Explorer that way (From the CR perspective)
    Hope that helps abit.
    Does the "Sample Reports" not already come with Derby connections setup, maybe look at their
    settings. But as I said I have not played around with this type of connection, sorry.

  • JDBC datasoure that works for embedded OC4J server of JDeveloper 10.1.3.4

    Hi all,
    I have this in the Application Module as JDBC datasource: java:comp/env/jdbc/DBCON
    That works fine if I deploy the application on Oracle application- or tomcat-server.
    On the connections tab in JDeveloper I have made a database connection with the name DBCON.
    But when I run the application from Jdeveloper with the embedded OC4J server I get this error:
    Unable to lookup Data Source at context java:comp/env/jdbc/DBCON
    What do I do wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Edit the <application_name>-data-sources.xml file under the root directory of your application, and setup a managed data source and connection pool with the data source having the correct jndi name, eg. jdbc/DBCON
    You can either do this manually (which I find easier), or use the tool within JDev
    Tools - > Embedded OC4J Preferences -> Current Workspace -> Data Sources -> New

  • Setting the CLASSPATH for the derby.jdbc embedded class

    I am new to Java and am trying to connect a simple (hello world simple) terminal app to a javadb embedded database - I am using the classFor to load the jdbc - but when I run my app I get an error saying the class can't be found. I think I just need to add the jdbc to my classpath. I've tried using
    export CLASSPATH=...
    but I still get the same error.

    Thank you SO much for your response! I have tried the following (this is where I found the derby.jar):
    javac -cp /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.07/db/lib/derby.jar test.java
    But I am still getting the same error:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver
    Here is my code - so far it doesn't really do anything, I just want to get it connected, then I'll start adding some simple db code and go from there:
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.Statement;
    class HelloDave
        public static void main(String[] args)
            try
                Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver");
            catch (Exception e)
                e.printStackTrace();
            System.out.println("Hello, Dave");
    }

  • [Oracle JDBC Driver]This driver is locked for use with embedded application

    Hi
    I installed Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8, and am trying to connect to my Oracle database using the attached tutorial code.
    The code compiles fine, but I get the following error whenever I run the file: [Oracle JDBC Driver]This driver is locked for use with embedded application
    I don't understand what is happening.
    Using the Runtime navigation panel on the upper left of the IDE screen, I can right-click and connect to the database, and navigate database files, using the Oracle JDBC Driver that came with JSE8.
    Name: Oracle Driver
    Driver: com.sun.sql.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver
    Database URL: jdbc:sun:oracle://JAZZPUP:1521;SID=REPO
    If the driver is installed, and can be used to connect to a database by right-clicking on the database definition in the Runtime panel, why can't I connect to it just using java code in the IDE. I would expect both methods to work or to fail, not one of each using the same IDE.
    Many thanks and take care,
    Shayne

    To summarize - the DataDirectDriver that is shipped with the IDE seems to be locked to be used inside the IDE only because of some licensing issues etc..
    That's weird, I agree. I will raise a question on reasons for such a behavior.
    The solution would be to use Oracle's own driver, that is distributed at no charge from their web site - http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html

  • Embedded SQL-92 Functions in JDBC

    It appears that the Oracle supplied JDBC drivers do not support embedded SQL-92 functions such as {fn UCASE(column)}. (I got this from the JDBC docs here online.) Does anyone know of a driver for Oracle that does support these features? I know it's not in Oracle's interests to help us be database neutral, but it's still a business requirement in the real world.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    i'd like to use JDBC connection with Mysql which is
    embedded in my application(not client/server
    version).How can i code to connect my application to
    such embedded server.
    This might be possible with a lot of work. And a non-trivial amount of code in C/C++. If you are not experienced with C/C++ then I would not suggest that you try this.
    This implies that MySQL is running in the same process space as the jvm. That means that you will need to write a shell in C/C++ that starts the JVM and starts MySQL. Starting the JVM in C/C++ is detailed in the JNI. It should certainly be possible to start MySQL from your own C/C++ code, but you would have to track down the documentation to do it.
    Starting this up is going to take as much time as starting the JVM and MySQL server together.
    You could still use the same jdbc driver or you could modify it (with a lot of work) to go direct.
