Embedding many resources

Hi,
I am new to this foum, i hope i didnt double post or anything.
I am searching for 2 days on forums and google, but i havent found a solution yet.
I am creating a stand alone flash application (flash cs4) with a load of png images.
Our customer wants the (external) images to be embedded in the application for protecting them from copying, otherwise i could load them in runtime.
The principle of embedding with the "[Embed(source="../../file..png")]" works perfectly with 10 files.
This way i wont have to name and define all my images in the library for later usage.
But when i try to embed for example 100 files, my compiler will not give any errors, but it just wont load any of the images.
Actually, the generated swf is not working. I guess the compiler has problems with loading in the rather large png files.
Has anyone found a similar problem, or maybe have a solution or workaround?
Solving this would be a great help, so thanks in advance.

don't use flex code. just import the images to your fla's library.

Embedding externals resources in SWF

Here what I’m tying to do. I have an SWF files exported from Indesign CS5 with animation and some videos/sounds. Their is no options inside InDesign to automatically embedding theses resources when creating the SFW. So when I import the SWF in Catalyst and play it either as SWF or AIR all the video is missing and the sound also. I have read one FAQ ( http://bit.ly/a7Sk8H ) about that in the forum but the solutions is outdated (was written for the beta in 2009) and does not works.
So, how can we make FC to recognize the externals resources and be able to play them when exported to SWF or AIR?

Hi Ian...
Ok, that works fine when copying the folders created by InDesign that is called ([Whatever] Resources) at the same level of the main.swf in the bin-ebug folder. This work fine when using Run Project to preview the swf from Catalyst itself. But When Publishing, none of the assets is copied to the "run-local" or "deploy-to-web" folder. So we need to manually copy the resources again.
What I was interested in was to build an AIR app out of Catalyst, but the video/sounds does not seems to be included in the AIr application. At least they do not play in the application.
If I do a right click on the AIR application, and take a look inside the package, in the Contents > Resources folder, I can see the video and sound file in two places (1) Floating at inside the Resources folder and also (2) Inside the assets > medias folder
So a few question remain.
(1) Why does I have a duplicate of the files inside the air app?
(2) Why it is not working (even if I manually place them manually?

mdworker is part of Spotlight indexing. Spotlight as in Commnad-Space or the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your menu bar.
You can control Spotlight via System Preferences -> Spotlight

Too many resources error

When I tried to open my iPad a message flashed on the screen which said something about "too many resources". I didn't have time to read the entire message before the machine shut down. I haven't been able to open it since. I assume I need to delete some things but how do I do this when it won't stay on.

Do you have a back up? PUt your ipad in recovery mode By pressing the power button and home key simultenously until you see connect to itunes. Do this while your ipad is connected to your computer. Once itunes detected your device, it will ask you if you want to restore the ipad and follow the instruction on your screen

Post subject: How many resource is occupying (CPU) when submit a request

Hi all,
Suppose I am submitting a request the request must have a request number. I just want to MONITOR how many resource is occupying (CPU) by particular that request id. Is there any code or any document id in metalink. I think if I can MONITOR the CPU use happening by the particular REQUEST ID, then I can tunin the database very easily.

Embedded License Resource Kit for Oracle Application Server 10g

Hi,
I work for a company and we are an Oracle partner. We would like to deliver our flagship product with Oracle Database and Application Server (10g) embedded.
According to an Oracle press release back in october 2003, Embedded License Resource Kits for Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server are available through the Oracle Partner Network (http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/2484668.html)
I found a kit for Oracle Database through OPN but was not able to find one for Oracle Application Server 10g.
Does such a kit still exist for Oracle Application Server, and if yes where can I download it?

Go to MyOracleSupport/Metalink.
Click patches and Updates on the top left bar. Download the patches.
Each patch comes with its readme.txt. Do read it. It shows you how to install the patch. it also gives syntax with example for various scenarios of how to install it, or remove a patch either. In most of the patches, Installing a patch again does not hurt your system.
It's a good practice to keep db inventory clean before attempting to install the patch because otherwise the patch installation will fail.

Is there a limit of how many resources can be shared via a single Resource Pool in Project 2010 Professional standalone?

We have a single master project resource pool of over 150 resources that are shared across let's say 10-15 sub projects or sharer files.
We are using Microsoft Project Professional (standalone no project server)
Are you aware of any limitations outside of project server with resource pool and sharing, or should we be using Project server (as I have read a lot of articles about resource pool sharing working better in project server)
I'd like to get clarification on:
1. I read that the calendars for resources (of which there could be many shift patterns etc.) should always be created in the master project only, not in the sharer files. In my testing I see that a shared resource also brings the additional calendars from
the Master Project file - and can be chosen in the calendar column from Resource sheet.
2. Each sharer file can have it's own specific project calendar, but the resource calendar (used by the assigned resources from the pool) will drive the scheduling (as per normal), unless;
3. A specific task has a 'Task Calendar' applied to it AND "scheduling ignores resource calendars" is ticked.
I am trying to find an article that addresses, in detail, the limitations or 'look out fors' in this area. I have found plenty about how to create and share resources, but this is more troubleshooting.
Any advice or direction that can be given would be appreciated. Thanks.

No limit to resources, but linked master and resource pools are at high risk of file corruption if you rename, over-write or move a linked file without removing it from the master and pool first. Files will corrupt, its when not if.
Master files should never have any resources or tasks in them, only inserted projects.
I much prefer creating master files with the Link option deselected. This copies all data and consolidates resource info (so no pool needed). I record a macro to create new masters each week. This method has no corruption risk.
Your alternative now is to experiment with Project Server. By far the best way to prototype a system is to get Project Online through Microsoft, ProjectHosts or Bemo. It will give you access to a vanilla project server very quickly and cost for a few months
testing is trivial for a few users.
If you go ahead with a full implementation I strongly recommend getting a qualified Project Server partner to help you implement the full system.

Kernel task is using many resources on my mac

Hi
I was working on my Mac but is coming very slow sometimes so I found the problem is the kernel task.
Lex I already use the Clean My Mac and since the first time I delete a lot of things I don't even remember how many. Should I format my drive?
About the iCleanMemory so the system will clear the RAM by it self or should I do something different or use another program?

"CleanMyMac" is trash capable of corrupting a Mac to the point that erasing it completely is the only practicable means of recovery.
There is no way to reverse the effects of having used CleanMyMac2, and the developer's uninstallation instructions are ineffective. Only MacPaw, its developer, can know the reason for that, but I can think of two possibilities: either they are purposefully leaving components behind for reasons known only to them, or they simply don't know what they're doing. Neither one of those possibilities is particularly comforting for the user.
Reinstalling OS X alone will have no effect on either removing CleanMyMac or reversing the damage it is capable of inflicting upon a system.
Follow the applicable recovery procedure below:
If you have a backup that you created prior to using CleanMyMac, now is the time to use it. For Time Machine, boot OS X Recovery, and at the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose Restore from Time Machine Backup. Choose a date preceding the installation of CleanMyMac.
If you do not have a backup that predates the use of CleanMyMac, create one now. To do that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
The recovery procedure will require that you erase the Mac using OS X Recovery, and then create a new user whose contents will be empty. You will then be able to use Setup Assistant to migrate your essential documents including photos, music, work products and other essential files.
When doing so, select only your previous User account and do not select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". De-select those choices.
Subsequent to using Setup Assistant, you will need to reinstall the essential software you may require, once again remembering to install software only from their original sources, and omitting all non-essential software.
To erase and install Mavericks read: OS X Mavericks: Erase and reinstall OS X
To migrate your essential documents read: OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks and follow the procedure under Time Machine or other disk migration.
Other problems may exist but those concerns will be rendered moot by erasing your system, which must be accomplished.

Too many resources used under Linux

I have tested sun jvm under linux red-dat 6.2
and 7.1 (listed by Sun as official platform supported)
The JVM I test was from 1.3.0 to the 1.4.1
I have written a simple application server that
runs java application starting a new JVM.
When the java application runs (with the -server or
-hotspot option) I see that 10 java process are
istantiated. (10 JVM)
This is a real problem because for 4 users that runs 4
applications there are 40 JVM running
(each one allocates about 20 Mb of memory)
and the system became very slow.
With the -classic option the situation is better: only 1 JVM
for application is started, (the application is the same, I
have change only the -server option with -classic)
but JVM seems to be less stable: I have a lot of segmentation
fault errors. (with core dump)
With the new distribution of Sun JVM (1.4.1) the -classic option
is no longer supported.
Does anyone knows if is there a way to have only one JVM
for application? (-classic does not works well)
Is there others JVM for linux more stable instead of the Sun one?
PS: I have tested the same code under win/2000 using JVM 1.3.1_03
and the -classic option. All goes well (the same application):
I haver only 1 thread for application without jvm runtime error.
Now my doubt is: does Sun belive in the Linux Word?
JVM for Windows is much more stable!!!

I am assuming that you believe that there are 10 processes because that is what ps shows. However on Linux, each thread in a java program shows up in ps as a separate process. The memory for each "ps process" corresponding to a java thread is shared among all the threads of the JVM. Therefore if you see 10 processes with 20MB each you are not using 200MB, just 20.
If you are running 4 JVMs then you would be using 40MB not 800 as shown in ps.
I think Sun's JVM for linux is quite good (as I use it every day). If you need to run so many JVMs you should invest in more memory.
BTW, How much memory is installed in your system?

Optimal use of many resource

Hi Folks
My System:
OS: linux OEL 5.2 x86_64
Memory: 112GB
CPU: 4*6Core = 24Cores
Filesystem: ASM 11.1.0.7
RDBMS: Oracle 11.1.0.7 Archivelogmode
We have recently migrated an OLTP Database (~1.3TB) to this server above. It is a Single Instance DB and it is also the only one DB on this server no other apps. I have several question on how to set the parameters. This is the current configuration
memory_max_target                    big integer 95G

sga_max_size                         big integer 65G
sga_target                           big integer 65G
pga_aggregate_target                 big integer 30GI set the sga_target to 65G because I cannot set the db_cache_size to a higher value than ~28G. I also set the log_buffer to 64MB but then I found the following Note on metalink:
The Log_buffer Default Size Cannot Be Reduced In 10g R2 ID: 351857.1
I set it to 64MB because the migration. I created a new empty 11g Instance and import with impdp over network the whole DB, with parallel index creation of huge tables.
Hence my Redo Buffer is ~ 212MB, a bit huge?

I got it now. The target for the backupset is an nfs export (netapp filer) and I used native nfs (knfs) which eats up all resources. Now I switched to direct nfs, this is as fast as knfs and it don't need as much resources as knfs. The time for the backups are also equal with dnfs or knfs :)
but one thing is a bit crazy. on the filer I monitored the I/O: with knfs ~5000I/O and with dnfs ~500I/O --> 10times fewer I/O but same duration... nothing else was running on this filer during the tests...

ActiveProject.Resources return too many resources in macros

Hello everybody.
I've got very annoyed issue.
I'm coding some macros which should add budget resources to project summary task automatically.
If I open single project window, I haven't got issue.
But when I open two different projects with different resources in different windows construct
ActiveProject.Resources
return resources from both openned projects together.
How I can distribute resources from different projects and why they return together?

Are you opening these two projects from project server? if yes, Could you uncheck "Load Resource Summary Assignments" check box you get on login prompt while opening Project Professional and check the issue behavior.
When we have this checkbox selected the resources from both the plans will be visible in resource sheet.

Too many resources message

I have the iPhone 4, ever since the iOS 6 update its been lagging a little and I keep gettig the following message: "your device is running low on resources. Please close any currently running apps that you don't need and try again". But when I check my open apps I only have 2-3 open and running still. How do I fix this? I have a 32gig and should have plenty of space, unless the iOS 6 took up a lot of it.

Are you locking the software tracks? Then may help.
I don't think a Windows partition will hurt performance UNLESS it seriously reduces the amount of free space on your hard drive. As long as you leave enough free space on your Mac partition (at least 10% of the drive) for virtual memory, I think you'll be okay.

Why FW CS5 Mac still uses so many resources?

Working with the CS5 version of FW feels not so "viscously" like the CS4. But why the Activity Monitor shows 25% CPU usage when just one (!) bitmap file is loaded? The bloated Photoshop CS5 with the same file open uses only 1,4% and working with PS still feels more smooth. I really can't understand this behaviour on the Mac...

Yes, there's something else! Don't use (or open) the Align Panel. With only the Layer and the History Panel open, FW uses 4% CPU. When i open the Align Panel, CPU raise to 10%. I'm not doing something! Just open the Panel. Closing the Panel bring back the (normal?) 4% CPU. Depends on the Panels. With Path Panel open FW uses 8.5%, with Optimize Panel only 4.4 % ...
I'm a little bit frustrated ...

Resource Bundles and Embedded fonts - best practice

Hello,
I am in digging into creating a localized app and I would
like to use embedded fonts.
Ideally, I would like to have two locales (for example), each
with a different embedded font and/or unicode range.
For example, how do I set up my localized app so that EN uses
Arial (Latin Range), and JP uses Arial Unicode MS with Japanese
Kanji unicode range ?
Note that I do know how to embed fonts with different ranges,
I just don't know how to properly embed them into resource bundles
and access them easily in style sheets.

This is a very pertinent question, however as many things in life there is no one size fits all here.
We basically recommend, as best practice, to allocate for each specific context only the estimated needed resources. These values should always come from a previous study on the network patterns/load.
To accomodate for growth and scalability it is strongly advised to initially keep as many resources reserved as possible and allocate the unused resources as needed. To accomplish this goal, you should created a reserved resource class, as you did already, with a guarantee of 20 to 40 percent of all ACE resources and configure a virtual context solely with the purpose of ensuring that these resources are reserved.
As you might already know ACE protects resources in use, this means that when decreasing a context's resources, the resources must be unused before then can be reused by other context. Although it is possible to decrease the resource allocations in real time, it typically requires additional overhead to clear any used resources before reducing them.
Based on the traffic patterns, number of connections, throughput, concurrent SSL connections , etc, for each of the sites you will be deploying you will have a better idea on what might be the estimated needed resources and then assign them to each of the contexts. Thus this is something that greatly depends on customer's network environment.
