Hi. It's because the server's environment doesn't have ORACLE_HOME
set to point to the directory where the Oracle client is installed.

  • Emergency questions exporting for dvd studio pro (ntsc and pal)

    Hi,
I'm under a tight timeline and would appreciate any help possible. I'm experimenting with outputs/burning today so the real thing can happen tomorrow.
I have an hour long project that was shot on two different kinds of cams -- a sony hdv V1U and pan dvx100b. The first shot mostly in 16:9, the second squeeze 24p. We imported all footage as non-hd though, because the V1u has had problems syncing properly with hd settings with final cut. The issue/question now is this-
I don't know what file format (I'm assuming mpeg-4 for DVD studio pro, but using compressor or no?) or settings to use -- I'm used to mpeg-4, but for some reason it is coming out all grainy/pixelated and I'm not sure if I need to adjust the settings. Also, once exported into a usable/high quality format, I need to burn a ntsc dvd but also a pal dvd -- I've burned pal dvds on dvd studio pro before and know adjusting the settings is just in preferences, but I'm assuming the video will need to be converted into a different kind of file. Or no?
My sequence settings are 1440x1080 (16:9), quicktime video settings compressor hdv 1080i60. When I export as a quicktime file the conversion is great and no problems, but that isn't workable in dvd studio pro.
I would appreciate any advice you could offer,
    Thank you,
    Tenzin

Thank you, I'm trying that -- someone else just mentioned it needing to be an mpeg 2 file as well. The trouble I'm having now in compressor is it isn't converting when I press submit -- nothing is showing up in the batch monitor. I've tried this directly exporting from fcp using compressor, as well exporting quicktime from fcp and then using the quicktime file in compressor.
I'm not used to using compressor so I'm thinking I am not doing something properly in this process? Thank you for the suggestions, they are reassuring. Do you know if the same file produced by compressor can be used for the pal dvd?

  • Emergency Question Re: Aspect Ratio

I'm shooting for the first time today with an HD Camera. I'm going to shoot in SD, but which aspect ratio? 16:9 or 4:3? I don't know what type of TV the video will ultimately be viewed on, but I'd like the flexibility for it to look great on both widescreen and standard TVs (letterboxed).
    Thanks.

I'd like the flexibility for it to look great on both widescreen and standard TVs (letterboxed).
Agreed. It's a subjective thing, but widescreens conforms more closely to the area of vision of the human eye. Here is how I achieve that. (see the punch line at the end):
HOW TO MAINTAIN 16:9 ASPECT FROM IMPORT TO BURN
This is the way I do it. There is no compulsion on you to do it my way, but this works (for me). I started this method before iMovie and iDVD were upgraded to 6.0.3, and because not all elements of the various iDVD themes (particularly the pre-iDVD 6 ones) are consistent in keeping to 16:9 throughout the process.
The widescreen preview works just fine when you check your finished project within iDVD. The problem only happens when you either burn a project or save it to an image.
The reason this bug is present is because iDVD incorrectly sets a single binary value to 1 instead of 0 in the .IFO and .BUP files that correspond to widescreen .VOB titles. If this value is set to 1, it instructs a DVD player to prohibit shifting to widescreen mode, even though another binary value that specifies the 16:9 format instead of 4:3 is properly set.
The simple translation of how to fix it is to open the .IFO and .BUP files, change the value (you do it in hexadecimal, which means it changes from 4F to 4E), save, then burn to DVD.
The reality is, it’s a bit trickier because you have to first copy iDVD’s disk image to your hard drive, change the read-only permissions on both the files and the VIDEO_TS folder to permit writing, save the changes, then run the whole folder through DVD Imager which saves a new disk image to burn that will be recognizable by DVD players.
That was one way to do it (and applies particularly to iDVD 5) but if, like me, you don’t fancy mucking about with hexadecimal, then here is an alternative.
A bug in iDVD 6, particularly when working with PAL, and which has been reported to Apple, is that the sub-menus in many of the themes (the chapter settings) default to 4:3 aspect, NTSC and mpeg 1, instead of the desired 16:9 in mpeg 2 in PAL. This may be partly a leftover from iDVD 5 or even a newer ‘feature’ of iDVD 6. Either way, it is annoying when it happens, and we must hope Apple cure it in iDVD 7. In the meantime here is my failsafe workaround, which sounds a lot more complicated when reading about it, that it is in practise.
Living in the UK, I use PAL (25 fps). Wherever you see a reference to PAL (25 fps) in the following you may substitute NTSC (30 fps) in the various settings mentioned (if you don’t live in Europe), the basic idea is the same. I still use this method, and take these steps, regardless of whether it is always necessary. Worst case scenario: it would have worked anyway. Best case scenario: it works perfectly where it otherwise wouldn’t!
The object of the exercise is therefore to ‘fix’ all constituent parts of the project (video, titles, theme, effects, even audio!) in the desired 16:9 aspect to avoid producing a DVD where the movie is in 16:9 and the menu is in 4:3 or where other irritating surprises lurk in your project, which you only discover after burning a coaster!
First go to http://www.mydvdedit.com/index.php?lang=english and download myDVDedit. This is shareware although the download is free. Send the guy a few dollars/euros, he deserves it. While you are there, read all about it. Now install it in your Applications Folder. You will need it later.
You have finished your iMovie project with music, transitions and so on, and saved it to you Movies Folder. Before you started the project you naturally set it to DV Widescreen.
Open iDVD. Give the project a name, and save it as Widescreen if it didn’t default to the same aspect as your iMovie project. Now import the iMovie project into iDVD, choose a theme (any theme you like, even if it prefers to stay at 4:3) and save the project. Do what you would normally do to the theme and its drop zones. Save the project.
Now save as Disk Image on your desktop. Leave it there for the moment when it has finished/appeared.
Open your Movies Folder. Create a new folder. Name it PROJECTNAME – TS FILES (where ‘projectname’ is the name of your project!). Close the folder. You can of course call it anything you like, but this aids identification.
Now double-click the disk image on your desktop. It contains two folders: AUDIO_TS (which is empty, but please pretend that it isn’t) and VIDEO_TS. Drag and drop these to the folder you created in your Movies Folder. (This takes a moment).
Click on the AUDIO_TS folder and go to Get Info in the file menu. Right down the bottom is where you have to change the permissions. Under ‘Ownership & Permissions’ change this from Read Only to Read & Write. Click the small triangle next to Details, scroll down and click on ‘Apply to enclosed items’. You will be asked for your root password. Close the get info window, and now click on the VIDEO_TS folder and do the same. Close the Projectname-TS Files folder. You have now allowed yourself to change the properties of the contents of those folders, which leads us to the next all-important step.
Open myDVDedit. Go to File and open the projectname TS Files folder. By all means stare at it shock and awe, but don’t bother finding out what it can do, except for the following:
Top left you fill see a list of files. Lower centre you have a large window. On the vertical menu to the left of that, click IFO.
In the window at the top left, ignore ‘First Play’ (if there was anything to correct in that, myDVDedit will have done so and told you).
Click on VMG Menu en (English). Now the whole thing springs to life.
Set Coding Mode to MPEG-2 (if it isn’t already)
Set Standard to PAL (or NTSC if that is what you want)
Set Aspect to 16:9 (not any of the other options)
    Now save the file.
Click on VTS Menu 1 en (English) and repeat as above.
Click on VTS Menu 2 and repeat as above.
You have now permanently ‘fixed’ the entire contents of the TS folder (the disk image) in 16:9 aspect. Close myDVDedit – you won’t need it again until the next project!
If you have Toast 7 Titanium, open it. ‘Select DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS’. Choose Select from the main Toast window and select your projectname-TS Files folder. You are now ready to burn! You can set the burn speed (2x recommended) before the burn commences. Allow Toast to verify the burn before you eject the DVD-R disk.
If you don’t have Toast 7, then I assume you can burn the projectname-TS Files folder (disk image) via Disk Utility. I say ‘assume’ only because I have never tried it that way.
Either way, you now have a DVD which will play as 16:9 widescreen on any TV set, even the old ones where you can’t ask it to letter-box.

If I buy developer version, which version  is the fastest for transfering from Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008  to CrystalReport Developer version?
    thanks!!!!

    Hi Jeff,
[This|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/Available%20Export%20Formats%2C%20Crystal%20Reports%209.1%20to%20Crystal%20Reports%202008] has a listing of product version and export capabilities.
If you go with the designer you will need to get Crystal Reports 2008 as it is the only version compatible with VS.NET 2008.  There is no developer/standard/professional editions any longer.  It is just a single product now.

  • My MacBook was stolen and I need to know the MAC address

An emergency question to Apple support. My MacBook was stolen and I need to know the MAC address of its network card. I have a receipt with the serial number of my MacBook. Can you assist?
    My serial: W8***66D
    Thank you
p.s Any ideas how I can find it?

Report the theft to your local authorities.
Apple has no means of tracking thefts, as thieves themselves may claim the machine is theres just by looking up the information on the computer, and unless you registered the machine, it is really their word against yours, unless you also have receipt or other information that they can track to your receipt against your serial number.
Your homeowners insurance may be able to recoup the cost.
In the future, consider getting Lapcop, or Lojack for notebooks.
    Good luck!

  • Best practice export PDFs for Pad viewing?

    Have an emergency question here:
A client has asked us to find out what export settings our former graphic designer used when he took copies of the client's InDesign files and exported PDF files that were higher quality than those exported by the client's in-house designer. Our designer has since moved to another state.
So, I'm asking here for advice we can relay to the client. His large job is due tomorrow. Although we'll take the PDFs and output them for Web use, this is not the usual stripped-down to basics situation. The results will have to look good on an iPad first of all (also on on Web pages), which means the PDFs we start from need to be higher quality than those usually destined for Web use. The entire publication is photo-intensive with many people pictures where clean appearance is important. Of course the pages also contain text, so that has to be crisp as well.
As I said, we lost our InDesign guru, and the client's designer is being faced with a new challenge. The client is calling me and asking How soon? How soon?
    Help? Thanks in advance.

Steve: If these are bitmaps inside a PDF that's going to be viewed on the iPad, you cannot rely on its "native resolution". Think about this: What if the original page size of this PDF is 5.5" x 8"? What if it is 20" x 32"? Which one will show the images "at their native resolution"?

  • Will DropBox and iCloud conflict?

Once I clear my MB harddrive enough to make room for Lion, I intend to download it in order to switch from MobileMe to iCloud. However, I'm using an app called 2Do on my iPhone and iPad, which is having sync'ing problems. The tech support for 2Do says that iCloud doesn't sync properly with many non-Apple apps, including 2Do. Rather, they recommend I use DropBox to sync 2Do on the devices. Is it possible to use both iCloud and DropBox for distinct purposes, so that they presumably will not interfere with each other syncing the same data?

    Thanks much.
    Emerging question:
Do we know whether Mountain Lion will be released before MobileMe expires? If so, I may wait for Mountain Lion. With Mountain Lion coming soon (within a year?) after Lion, it appears Lion is a more transitional OS, and I wonder if it's better to wait for Mountain Lion to be released to work with iCloud. After searching Apple support for further discussions re iCloud and some of the problems with this major shift toward cloud computing, I wonder if the switch to Lion (in order to use iCloud) is premature.

  • How do I get started using my new 3GS for apps?

Help. I am on a family plan and am 1 of 4 lines.
I am the only one with iphone 3. How do I download
aps? and which "passwords" etc. do I use to get
started? I am all new at this.

I love explaining iPhone concepts from scratch. You say you have the iPhone 3GS. If you have purchased this phone after 10/11/11, than that means you are running iOS 5, the latest version of your phone's ability, in simpler tems, you got all the new stuff on your phone that Apple released except for Siri.
Now that we have that settled we can download an app. You start by finding the app titled "App Store" on your phone's homescreen. You lightly tap the app with your finger (not your fingernail). You have now entered into the hub of all apps (consists of games, utilities, business helpers, games, etc.) You should see five buttons on the bottom of your screen. If you want to download an app that is "all the rage" right now, press either the "Top 25" or "Featured" buttons. If you are looking for a certain app genre, tap the "Categories" button. If you know an app you specifically want by name, press the "Search" button, then tap on the white bar on the top of the screen and type in the app's name. Next, no matter what app you chose, when tapping it's name or logo, you are taken to it's description.
You picked out an app you like, good for you. You can read it's description on this download page, look at screenshots of the app, gift the app (if the app is not free), and look at reviews from other people with this app all before you download it onto your phone. To finally proceed dowloadig the app, scroll to the top of the app's page and press the button in the top right corner that should either say "FREE" if the app is free, ".99" if the app costs a dollar, or "INSTALL" if you or someone else sharing your iTunes Store account has purchased this app. No matter what it says, you tap that button twice for confirmation, and then... here comes the password part.
The password is for your Apple ID. Your Apple ID is like your username on a social network. The only difference is that instead of any username, it has to be an Email address. If you honestly do not know which Email address you used to be your Apple ID, you can find it by pressing the "Top 25" button in the App Store and scrolling all the way down. If you are logged in, it should say "Apple ID:[email protected]" or something. If you see your Email address there, you can press it and press the "iForgot" button to get your password Emailed to you on that address. If you don't see this, you are not logged in. this means you must try to log in if someone else in your family knows if you even have an Apple ID. If you now are sure you do not have an Apple ID you must make an Apple ID which will take a while. You will have to choose an Email address you can access to be your ID, a password you can remember, your billing info, and three emergency questions for recovering your account. once that is settled, you log into this account on your phone by tapping the button in the location I stated before (bottom of the Top 25 tab). You type in your password which you hopefully now know, you now revisit the app you wanted to dowload, reach the password imput screen that I had guided you to, and you type in your passowrd one last time after doing so, you will be forced out of the store, and you get to watch your app install. i recommend you be at home under wifi if this is a large app. After doing this, you will shortly be able to download more apps from the store without even nedding to type in your password. I just hope you remeber your password for when it askes you again the next time.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook A1181 Question and Emergency.

Hello. My Uncle gave me his MacBook A1181 three days ago with a problem. I've read some forums online and my problem is that the MacBook had an overheat problem. What happened was my uncle was using it and all of a sudden it shut off completely, and the bottom was very hot, and could only turn on and work fine when plugged into a charger. So what happened was I looked into the logic board and noticed a large amount of dust trapped in the fan and heat sink. I've cleaned it out. Disassembled the fan, cleaned it, vacuumed the rotors, and am reassembling everything back together. And I thought that also it was a problem with the DC board. As I was CAREFULLY getting the DC board out I had to take off the logic board first. And as I was removing it CAREFULLY, I noticed that 1 of the four tiny metal brackets between the Audiojack and Battery adapter plug to the logic board was missing, and I found it laying against the wall of the bar holding all of the side ports. And my emergency is.. DID I JUST KILL THE COMPUTER!? It's 1 out of the billions that are on the board. None of the little connectors on the Battery Plug Adapter are damaged.. So I want to know if I killed the computer? :c and the DC board seemed fine. Battery could charge. Nothing strange. But I need to know. Do I still have to replace the fan? Or do I need the fan and a whole new logic board? :c help would be VERY much appreciated! If anyone thinks it might be a problem with the DC board anyway, I'd be happy to know the reason why. And the charger I had got fried. So before I do anything I want to know what you guys think.

Alright so I have sort of a loop issue, I need to use my security questions to buy things on my new iPhone, but I don't know my security questions, and to reset my security questions I need to use my emergency email address to do so, but that was when my email address was managed by my school , and since has been changed, that was my only other email to use (since then I now have 3 personal ones) and to reset that email you need to know your security questions. Now, how would I go about doing this? Is there a way to contact Apple to change this or should I ask the school's IT guy to create a temporary email address in the previous name?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
