EMU1616M PCIe - Power Supply died

Good afternoon,
Sorry if this is the wrong place for putting this. Since a couple of days the power supply is dead. I am in the process of purchasing a replacement. What exactly is powered by the PSU? Can I test the new PSU without the connection with the EDI cable? Are any lights lit? Suppose there is some shortage in the desktop unit, it may influence my PCIe card and MOBO and I don't have the money for another computer.
Greetings from a sunny Holland,
Raymond Robijns

Edit 2: Just looked at this on my other computer and it looks fine... Ill take a picture with my phone but I assume if the screen shot captured doesn't have the display malfunction that I am seeing, it means the video card is dead? Or the logic board? Arggg.

  • 320GB Hard drive power supply died - where to find replacement?

    Hi,
The power supply for my external 320Gb hard drive (PX1223E-1G32) which I bought about a year ago has died. I am a bit annoyed as the drive has hardly been used and only just come out of storage after a house move!
Can anyone help track down a replacement in the UK? It is branded Dura Micro Inc AC Adapter 100-240V 1.2A +12V 1.2A +5V 2A and the DC power lead looks like a 4 pin 'DIN' type connector.
Does anyone have a contact email address for Customer service/retruns UK as it may be possible to replace it under warranty.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Hi,
Thnaks for the reply. Yes - the dealer is the obvious first stop but I am not sure if the warranty is still valid or not as I am yet to find the invoice! I was just wondering if there was a cheap source of power supplies if needed as so far I have only be able to find very expensive suppliers. In fact it may well be cheaper for me to buy a new drive enclosure and to transfer the drive over than to buy an actual new power supply.
    Thanks,

  • K8N NEO4 new old power supply died new power supply installed will not boot

This is an old build. The K8N NEO4 powers up and is followed by a long beep. The lights on the back of the USB card (4 lights( indicate 3 greens and one red in the upper right corner. According to the instruction manual, this means that Initializing Floppy Drive Controller
This will initialize Floppy Drive and controller. This makes no sense.
I flashed the CMOS both using the red button and removing the motherboard battery to confirm the power supply was bad. In hindsight, I wish I had not.
I switched from a 500W power suppply that died to a 430W thermaltake power supply. I've disconnected a hard drive and a burner to see if power was an issue, it was not the cause.
I'm pulling my hair out here, please help!

"Is it possible the power supply took the CPU with it when it died?"
Yes it's possible that it did that. It's also possible that other components were killed also, that's why changing and trying different parts are required until you find everything that may have been damaged. We can only suggest what might be bad and you or someone else will need to do the actual work, there is no getting around that. We can give the serious advice, you need to do the serious labor.
"...don't want to take the Tuniq tower 120 off if another processor will not work"
Anybody that repairs PC's would need to swap parts to be 100% sure of what's wrong.
Pin #20 is where -5V would be if newer PSU's still had -5V. The only the reason you would need the -5V is if you had an older K8N MB that had Creative sound on it instead of Realtek.

  • Has my G4 sawtooth power supply died?

My Power Mac G4 AGP "Sawtooth" will not start. It was in sleep mode when we had a two-hour power outage yesterday. Now the startup button does not light, even when pressed, and the machine makes no response.
I’ve checked the power cord and outlet, and both are good. The monitor, which is plugged into the outlet on the back of the G4, is getting power. The battery checks as okay, and I’ve tried a PMU reset with no response.
After reading over the discussion boards, it sounds like the power supply, but would a power outage cause that to fail? (It was plugged into a fairly good Curtis surge suppressor, but in sleep mode).
    Many thanks for any help.
    Gene

    Eugene,
Both your website and Tom Bryant’s response (above) point to a definitive power supply voltage test, but I’m a bit intimidated by the red-print warnings of death for non-techies.
Dangerous line power is only present inside the metal case of the PSU. All wires going to the motherboard connector are less than 30 Volts DC. There is more danger the computer could be damaged by careless handling than to you.
    1. leave the connector in it's seat on the motherboard.
    2. Make your own probes for the VM with small insulated devices that can clip to thin wires -Radio Shack (NOT alligator clips).
....Get some sturdy decoration pins that will be pushed inside the wire holes of the connector to which the clips will be hooked.
    3. be careful to not drop any metal object on the motherboard.
    4. Unpower the mac while changing position of the pins.
It's still your responsibility deciding to try yourself.

  • Power supply died

I wasn't doing much on my computer, when all of a sudden I heard a pop and the computer shut off, followed by an electric burning smell coming from the power supply. There was no catalyst; it sits behind a battery, and my other computer running on a parallel UPS didn't feel any surge. Its serial number is just before the recall numbers. Does anyone know if Apple will sell me a new supply? Its far out of warranty and I've always done DIY repairs on my system, and ifxit doesn't carry desktop parts.

    Hi Mathew Medeiros-
I believe that Apple will sell you a supply, but it will be fairly expensive. However, this place sells repair parts for Macs: We Love Macs
A G5 power supply isn't easy to do, but many folks have managed to successfully do the deed.

  • Power supply died, and now video card is malfunctioning

I had the power supply in a 24in iMac (16 months old) replaced yesterday after the computer malfunctioned (Thought it was the hard drive, tech said it was power supply and seemed to have been correct).
The hard drive was formatted prior to sending it off to be repaired so i get it back and go to install Leopard and the resolution looks low. I install OSX anyway thinking it may be a software issue. But that didnt help. All menus have a slight pink tinge to them. Desktop background is pixalted and just ... low resolution looking.
The video card was fine before bringing it in. I can't see why it would suddenly do this. if the video card was messed up, I would expect it to just not display anything.
The monitor is set to 1920 x 1200 and it is correctly displaying at that resolution. It s just that colors are off and images are pixelated. Dont know how else to describe it.
    Any ideas?

  • DA G4 w/GigaDesigns upgrade needs Power Supply... Again... Help!

    Hi!
I installed a GigaDesigns Dual 7455B 1.0-1.2(GIG5D1012Q) in my Digital Audio DP G4 533MHz on 6/22/04. The power supply died within 9 months.
I then bought another power supply on 3/8/05 from DV Warehouse(they assured me it was new - far from it... anyway). This one is slowly dying on me. The internal PSU fan has long stopped working, so for a month or two, the G4's case has been open and the PSU sits on top of the case with a room fan cooling it down from 3 feet away. WHAT(in Lil' Jon voice)...
As you can see, my power supplies last for 7-9 months ever since I installed the GigaDesigns upgrade card.
Should I try the MDD PSU mod? Is there maybe a tech that does that in NY?
Or, should I get another Digital Audio PSU that I know will go in 7-9 months?
Is there another way to extent my power supply's life?
What do you guys think I should do? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
    Merry Christmas to all!

Two internal drives should not be a concern for heat, but the DIGI and video cards could be taxing heatwise and also taxing the power supply just a tad..
I don't have any recommendations for a PCI slot cooling fan - they're pretty generic items. When shopping, look for one with the highest CFM airflow and lowest dB (noise) rating you can find. This is a balancing act, as higher CFM ratings usually mean it's going to make more noise. Here's one from Antec at ZipZoomFly to give you an idea. Cracking the case door open isn't a good idea, as it negates the designed airflow characteristics and unless you provide additional airflow to the components, ad may actually make it run hotter than with the door closed.
WRT to dust - the most vulnerable spots for dust accumulation are the intake port at the front-bottom of the case right below the front drive bays, the PSU exhaust area, and the heatsinks on the processor(s). A quick blowout with canned air periodically is always a good idea to keep air flowing and things cooled as they should be.
Also, I do not see my topic in the topics list - I have to search for it. What did I do wrong? I guess there are different ways of posting. I just wanna post and reply without being asked whether my quetion was answered or not everytime.
I haven't posted a question since the changeover to the new Forum software, so I'm not the person to ask on this. I use the quick link to "My Posts" in the right sidebar to see what I've posted and jump back to it..

  • Use SNMP to monitor the power supply status of stacked switches

Does anybody know how to use SNMP to monitor the status of the internal power supplies of a group of stacked Cisco 3750 switches?
The switch stack has three 3750-48PS-E switches inter-connected by Cisco StackWise cable. IOS ver 12.1(19)EAlc. A single IP address is used to identify the switch stack. Every time I poll the OID chassisPs1Status (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.2.4.0 in CISCO-STACK-MIB), I only got the status for the Master switch of the switch stack. Is there any way to poll the power supply status of other switches in the switch stack?
    Thanks a lot!

Sorry to refresh such an old topic - but I am stuck with exactly this: Monitoring power supplies of a stacked Cisco Catalyst 3750-E.
I'm using the exact same OID's as described, but the problem is, the information shown on the SNMP output is not correct.
This morning, a power supply of the first switch failed and switched to RPS. Here the information I got on SNMP:
    snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.1.50 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.13.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 13

    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.13.1.5.1.4.2060 = INTEGER: 2
As you see, both PS1 (for both switches) are appearing normal. It doesn't even recognize RPS:
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.13.1.5.1.2.1059 = STRING: "Sw1, PS1 Normal, RPS NotExist"
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.13.1.5.1.2.2060 = STRING: "Sw2, PS1 Normal, RPS NotExist"
The first switch's power supply died and now the cable is disconnected. LED's of the power supply are out. And still: The switch happily announces by SNMP it's power supplies are up.
Is this a known bug? If yes, has it been fixed?

  • New power supply has no -5 V?!

So I have an 865PE NEO2 board that is about 3 years old.  I recently had a power supply die, so I purchased a new Antec 480W TruePower 2.0 supply.  I noticed in the BIOS that the voltage reading for the -5V line was missing.  The machine seemed to run ok, and the supply passes all tests I could find, but this worried me.  Sandra reported some different voltage on the -5V line (3.5 V maybe?) so that worried me too.
So I looked at my new supply, and lo and behold there is no -5 V line coming out of the supply.  The pin isn't connected to anything on the motherboard connector.  Apparently the ATX spec was updated to remove this at some point, but I'm concerned that my old NEO2 may have been relying on that line for something.
    Thoughts?
    Bret

I just replaced the power supply in my main box. I took out the old "iBest" 550W 20pin, and put a new Enermax Noise taker 475W w/24pins.
The new 24pin PSU dose not use the -5V. I had to use a 20 to 24pin Adapter to get it to work, only because the 24pin from the PSU would not plug into my mobo. Once I modified the adapter(cut the extra 4pins of the side that plugs into the mobo(now its only a 20 to 20pin adapter  )) and got it to Plug in to my mobo, it worked Great with out the -5V supply.

  • Dead Power Supply and LaCie Portable HD?

    Here's my problem:
I coordinate a lab that has 8 400-MHz G4's. Four of the computers have just died over the past few months; no power at all when trying to start them.
I've already tried changing batteries and pressing the PRAM button, but that hasn't help. So it seems that there may be a problem with the power supply dying.
But here's the catch: It seems that the computers lose power when I connect a LaCie 80 GB portable Firewire hard drive to them. I was running one of the G4's today when said portable hard drive attached. I turned the computer off, then tried to start it up again. No power!
I know this has to be more than a coincidence, since it has happened once before. And now I'm thinking that is probably why the other computers died too.
Has anyone else had this problem occur? Or is this just my imagination?

Is the LaCie drive able to work with any computer for a sufficient period of time?
It sounds like there may be an electrical problem with the external drive that is causing some damage when plugging it into a computer's firewire port.

  • My Power supply Pooped out

My G4 MDD 1.25 Power supply died, "dead as a duck", I shopped about new apple PS is more than the cost of the computer, plus they are not a stock item anyway (in my area).
Question,my PC supplier asked me why can't I use a PS from a later windows box, he says the connector to the mother board appears to have the same ammount of cables and colours, so, he thinks that the voltages may be the same just a matter of a few mins soldering the connectors across.
Has anyone tried this and with what particular windows PS.
    TomK

    Hi Nadav,
Thanks for the advice, No it blows zippo, easy way to tell it's dead is when power plug is inserted no small zappy noise is heard, Local Mac spare parts guy said these are hard to find now and mother boards are also failing.
I even put another fuse inside the PS, it blew that too..it's goosed.
Worst part is that it also took out the System HDD, and to make things even more worse it had all my latest emails were on that, system back up was only to two months ago..
Have decided to completely dump the G4 and Try to remain working on my Macpro for now, (Now No back-up Mac).
Another frustrating thing is that I had new clean power lines installed from the fuse box to the computers with surge protection adapters just late last year at a cost of over $1200.
Looks like sys back ups have to be scheduled every day or even more, I'm thinking that apple knew these total failures would occur and that could be why they introduced time machine..cynical viewpoint I know.
Now I have to also shelve my sonnet card and my AJA KonaLS card, what a costly waste of resources.
    Cheers for the reply

  • How can i change the voltage of my power supply using my pci gpib 488.2 driver?

I need to be able to control the voltage outputed by the power supply. I have a pci gpib 488.2 and I downloaded the correct driver. I also don't no exactly how to use the communicator included in the measurement and automation explorer. When ever I type in the commands I get an error. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
    thank you

First see if you can establish communications with the power suppy using Meas and Automation explorer (MAX for short). If you can find your GPIB card in the directory tree choose it and then use the scan for instruments tool. If it can see your power supply it will give you it's address. Choose it and try the Communicate with my instrument tool. It will send a IDN? command to that address and it might return a string if the instrument understands the command. If not you will need to dig through the power supply manual to find the correct commands.
Using LabVIEW 2010SP1 and TestStand 4.5

  • LaCie power supply brick died

sorry, don't know where else to post this.
i have an external LaCie D2 optical drive and after about 5 years of (more or less) continuous operation, the power supply brick died. obviously no power to the drive and clicking noise from the brick.
i understand nothing lasts forever and already ordered a replacement.
i was just wondering if getting 5 years out of such brick is a decent lifespan.
    thanks

mine died a month ago after just 30 months.
Seems they may be getting less reliable then.
Thankfull for the 3 year warranty as it was covered and they set me a replacement.
Was so worried it was the drive itself.
