Emulate mouse scroll with keyboard [solved]

I'd like to be achieve a mouse scroll wheel functionality with keyboard, that is, to be able to scroll n lines by using a keyboard shortcut. Page up/down jumps too much and arrow up/down is quite slow and not so eye-friendly. So I'd like to be able to scroll, say, five lines down when pressing something like Ctrl + arrow down.
I'm using KDE 4.3 at the moment and couldn't find anything related in the settings, so I'm guessing it requires a bit more effort. Would it be possible to map some keys into sending an event similar to the event that is caused by scrolling the scroll wheel? I tried to see what xev says about scrolling the wheel, but that didn't help much.

Maybe xbindkeys with xdotool, but I don't know if this is without lag.
Something like this in .xbindkeysrc
"xdotool key --clearmodifiers Up Up Up Up Up"
   Control + Up

    I think for mousewheel scrolling to work with custom scrolling you need links to:
         a) latest jQuery core library
         b) latest jQuery UI library
         c) custom scrolling script
         d) mousewheel script and
         e) easing script.
    I don't see all of that in your test page.
    This link might work better for you:

  • Can't set up new Magic Mouse scrolling with Lion

    I am running Lion on my MacBook Pro and just got a brand new Magic Mouse. I can pair it with the computer and move the pointer, right and left click, but no scrolling or middle button clicking. When I go into System Preferences and select Mouse, I only have the options to "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling," Tracking Speed, Double-Click Speed, Scrolling Speed, Primary mouse button and Zoom using scroll wheel while holding ^Control.
    Nowhere do I see the little video and gestures window like I see for my trackpad preferences. I thought maybe I had to install the Wireless Mouse Software, but all I can find is a version for Snow Leopard and my computer will not open the file because it says it's incompatible.
    Is scrolling (just up, down, left or right like in a browser) not possible in Lion with a Magic Mouse? What am I missing?

    Your missing the Magic Mouse Preference pane.  Sometimes 3rd party drivers interfere with this.  USB overdrive has been reported the most.  Your Magic Mouse Preferences should look like this:
    If you can find the culprit and uninstall it, this pane should return.

  • Simulate mouse clicks with keyboard

    Hello,
    I'd like to create a little tool in JAVA that would simulate a mouseclick when I pressed a key on the keyboard.
    But that should be valid even when I have any other program as active (selected).
    Can that be done in Java or Java can only listen to events generated when the java application is active?
    If you have working code that would be very appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Nuno Vidal

    Ok... have never done anythong with JNI before, can
    you give me an insight?The way I would do it would be to write a system wide keyboard hook, (which you can't do in Java and should do in C++)into a JNI dll as smg123 said. Then you will have that method notify your java program on a key press and from your Java program you can use the Robot class to send a mouse click or since your already using a native code you could write a C++ function to do it and invoke that from your Java app.

  • JScrollPane:: scrolling with keyboard

    Hello all,
    I am having problem with right scroll ; all others up,down left work fine
    below is the code I used
    if(e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_RIGHT) {
    horizontal.setValue(horizontal.getValue() + horizontal.getUnitIncrement(1));
    The problem is that the right scroll does not go on till the longest line in the view, but just resets back once it came to the end of one the lines in scrllpane view.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kiran

    The maximum is defined by content's size. You have to reset size of content to move far right.
    Try to use something like this:
    Dimension d=scrollPaneContent.getPreferredSize();
    d.width+=someAdditionalSize;
    scrollPaneContent.setPreferedSize(d);
    scrollPaneContent.invalidate();
    scrollPaneContent.validate();
    scrollPaneContent.repaint();.
    After that increase value of scroll bar.
    regards,
    Stas

  • Scroll block panel with keyboard

    Hello,
    how can I scroll in the block panel with the keyboard?
    When there is the need to move far, a block or a diagram in the block panel, it takes much time to scroll with the mouse when something is selected.
    Is there any way to use the keyboard to scroll when the mouse has selected something and it cannot use the scrollbars?
    Thank you.
    Solved!

    No. You can probably write some special code which will allow you to do this, but I don't know how nicely that will play with the selection either. If you want, you can look up LabVIEW scripting, but be aware that this is relatively advanced material. It's not hard, but it does require knowledge of how LV works.
    More generally, if your code is so big that you need to move in such big jumps, it probably means that you have a problem. Breaking up code into smaller modules will prevent this problem and will also come with some additional advantages. You can try looking up some online courses and style guides to learn more about this.

  • 870A Fuzion Power has problem with keyboard and mouse movement only in games.

    Hey guys,
    recently built a new system and chose to go with the 870A Fuzion Power mainboard, everything has gone very smoothly execpt for one problem, only when I play games like Crysis 2 ect the mouse seems to jolt around now and again and the keyboard decides to stop responding if I hold down the movement keys, and this is only in game not surfing the web for example. Now, I am using a wireless mouse and keyboard but I plugged in a PS/2 keyboard and the exact same thing happened. I've installed all of the drivers that came with this board and the drivers for the mouse and keyboard. Any of you guys ever had this sort of problem or know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    I bought a new Macbook pro in june 2010, I didn't have any keyboard or mouse issues prior to upgrading to 10.6.4 supposedly this update was made to fix some issues with keyboard and mouse becoming unresponsive. For me the opposite happened. after the upgrade, my keyboard and mouse (trackpad) becomes sometimes partially unresponsive or totally unresponsive. the only way to solve the problem is by completely turning of the computer and turning back on.. granted it doesn't happen very often.. generally once every about 2-3 weeks but it is still annoying though..
    I didn't have a chance to use the computer too much on the previous version (10.6.3) so I don't know if it is software related or hardware related.. any thoughts?

  • Major Preview App annoyance - no way to scroll with mouse

    Apple apparently thinks everyone uses their trackpad. Not.
    There's now no way to scroll down with a mouse as with ML.  I have to take my hand off it and use the trackpad to scroll down.  And since Logitech hasn't released new software, and the old doesn't play well with Mavericks (I had to uninstall it and use the default drivers in OS X), I'm stuck at least for now.
    Hopefully, I can revert to the old version from a backup.

    have you tried https://bugreport.apple.com
    This was posted on macrumours and is incredibly accurate to my case:
    Running Mavericks, if I open a single-page PDF document in Preview and size the window to 822+ pixels tall (800+ viewable document area) then the vertical scroll bar disappears (I have it set to “always” show) and the normal two-finger scrolling does not work in the up-and-down direction.
    I can still “flick” two fingers to scroll, and if I scroll at a diagonal angle it will work, but it won’t scroll normally up and down. Resizing the window to less than 822 pixels tall solves the problem, making the scroll bar reappear and the trackpad scroll gesture works properly.
    Multi-page PDFs, as well as non-PDF files, scroll just fine. It is only single-page PDFs, and only when the window shows at least 800 vertical pixels of the document, that Preview stops vertical scrolling.

  • The cursor on my iMac freezes, and I cannot do anything unless I unplug the computer. It is NOT a problem with the mouse or the keyboard ... it is internal. How do I fix this??

    The cursor on my iMac (Panther 10.3.9) freezes to where I cannot do anything unless I unplug the computer. It is NOT a problem with the mouse or the keyboard. How do I solve this problem?

    The cost to get this repaired is more than what you could find another used imac for.
    I would suggest you get some details before you rush to make a diagnosis. You have absolutely no information to base this on. I see you're hitting up on numerous threads all over the place. Quality, meaning several good posts with reliable advice, is much more worthwhile than quantity.

  • How to zoom in even steps (50%, 66,7%, 100% etc) with mouse scroll on a Mac?

    I just switched to a mac from PC and I was used to zoom with my mouse scroll and hold shift to zoom in even increments to keep the image as crisp as possible. Now on a mac I still haven't found a way to do this. When the zoom with mouse scroll is enabled (I use Apple's Magic Mouse), I'm only able to zoom in and out getting uneven values such as 88,7%, 97,6% etc - the same action as in Photoshop WITHOUT shift pressed. But on a mac pressing shift doesn't help. I've also tried plenty of different keys with mouse scroll zoom but none of them seem to help.
    Is there any way to zoom in even steps with Magic Mouse on a mac? This is driving me crazy, as now I have to select the zoom tool and use it to zoom in and out, which significantly slows down my work flow.

    While Magic Mouse is really cool, it is not really the best bet for a Photoshop user. Read here: http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MB829LL/A?pqid=QXF99PAC4UX2C4PDCFTTP4XP YXH2YTDFC
    Other than that, you can press 'Option' key on your Mac keyboard and use the 2 finger zoom on Magic Mouse to zoom in. But, I doubt if this will give you even step zoom.
    The other keyboard combination you could use (I'm sure you're probably already aware) is Cmd + & Cmd - key combination which will give you equal step zoom.
    You can also take a look at this article: http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/11-ways-to-zoom-in-photoshop-cs4/
    Even though it is for CS4, it works across all versions of Photoshop (so far).

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    volume controls issues are windows, not firefox.

  • [SOLVED] xorg/arch mouse scroll

    Hi, I am stuck with this and could not find an answer in the Forum (sorry if I missed...)
    I installed both archbang and archlinux (arch+xorg+openbox, nothing else) in virtualbox. In archbang the mouse wheel works perfectly, in arhclinux it does not work at all. The config files are the same in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
    Can some tell me what I need to do in archlinux to enable mouse scroll? Thanks in advance!

    Unbelieveable... yes that was the problem! I simply skip that becasue everything "seemed" working fine. Thanks again!
    After installing virtualbox I was hoping that would solve my other problem, that is I cannot install .bzr  packages from AUR as the process stops at " Connecting to Bazaar server" with server timeout message. Until this point everything is fine. Can you probably help in that too?
