[SOLVED] xorg/arch mouse scroll

Hi, I am stuck with this and could not find an answer in the Forum (sorry if I missed...)
I installed both archbang and archlinux (arch+xorg+openbox, nothing else) in virtualbox. In archbang the mouse wheel works perfectly, in arhclinux it does not work at all. The config files are the same in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
Can some tell me what I need to do in archlinux to enable mouse scroll? Thanks in advance!

Unbelieveable... yes that was the problem! I simply skip that becasue everything "seemed" working fine. Thanks again!
After installing virtualbox I was hoping that would solve my other problem, that is I cannot install .bzr  packages from AUR as the process stops at " Connecting to Bazaar server" with server timeout message. Until this point everything is fine. Can you probably help in that too?

The Rapoo M765 mouse can not work properly under normal mouse configuration.
The mouse goes beyond controll when config as below:
    hacksign@XSign [14:13:13] : ~
    >> cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-mouse-acceleration.conf
    #Section "InputClass"
    # Identifier "Mouse2"

    # Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
    # Option "Buttons" "7"
    # Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7"
    #EndSection
When there is no any configuration, the mouse can work abnormally. Movement and right/left click work fine, but I can not use scroll wheel, and the "go forward"&"go backward" mouse key can not work too.
(I know Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" is the configuration of scroll wheel emulation.)
The real problem is 'mouse beyond controll',the cursor goes crazyly on screen ....
I guess it is something wrong of ButtonMapping option. But when I tried to get button number from command xev, when scroll wheel scrolles, I get something below(the scroll wheel movement is identified as a key event~):

    Thanks for reply !
change Driver 'mouse' to Driver 'evdev',solved cursor goes beyond controll problem.
but I still can not use scroll button and 'go forward'&'go backward' button.
(BTW:evdev_drv.so is from local/xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint, and local/xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint package is from AUR)
I think, maybe something wrong with my button number mapping, but I still can not get scroll button number with 'xev' command....

You should not use the mouse driver (old deprecated driver) but evdev. Try to remove xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard (same as before, this is deprecated and handled by evdev) and remove also a "joystick" driver if you have it (I have had problem with it conflicting with the evdev driver).

  • [SOLVED] Xorg and mouse with HAL doesn't work

    Hi
I recently reinstalled Arch Linux and I have some problems... My mouse isn't working - at all! I'm using an HP Compaq 6510b.
    I've installed the following packages:
    * xf86-input-evdev
    * hal
    * dbus
I don't have an xorg.conf file at all, as I heard that hal should solve everything automagically for me. This seems to not be the case?
    Any ideas? Thanks

  • The mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with Xorg

I recently installed Solaris 10 on my x86 box. One issue is that the mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with Xorg. Hmmm... Okay, it sometimes did work, and most of the time went on strike, and recovered at random. This pattern continued.
My mouse is an ordinary PS/2 one with two buttons and a scroll wheel. I want to promise that there's absolutely nothing wrong with it per se. Here is some info:

  • Emulate mouse scroll with keyboard [solved]

I'd like to be achieve a mouse scroll wheel functionality with keyboard, that is, to be able to scroll n lines by using a keyboard shortcut. Page up/down jumps too much and arrow up/down is quite slow and not so eye-friendly. So I'd like to be able to scroll, say, five lines down when pressing something like Ctrl + arrow down.
I'm using KDE 4.3 at the moment and couldn't find anything related in the settings, so I'm guessing it requires a bit more effort. Would it be possible to map some keys into sending an event similar to the event that is caused by scrolling the scroll wheel? I tried to see what xev says about scrolling the wheel, but that didn't help much.

Maybe xbindkeys with xdotool, but I don't know if this is without lag.
    Something like this in .xbindkeysrc
"xdotool key --clearmodifiers Up Up Up Up Up"
       Control + Up

lspci -k | grep -A -2 -i "VGA" shows two graphic cards (see below). I guess the I am using the NVIDIA.
    I installed nvidia-utils-337.12-1 , nvidia-337.12-1, nvidia-libgl-337.12-1
    After that I ran nvidia-xconfig
    startx gives the above error.
    What can I try next?
    Best,
    Sjoerd

    Hi Karol,
Thank you for the suggestion. I read the wiki Nvidia#No_screens_found_on_a_laptop.2FNVIDIA_Optimus .
It says "On a laptop, if the NVIDIA driver cannot find any screens, you may have an NVIDIA Optimus setup : an Intel chipset connected to the screen and the video outputs, and a NVIDIA". This seems to be the case for my latop.
The wiki suggests three options to get around the problem:
    1) NVIDIA drivers now offer Optimus support since 319.12 Beta [[3]] with kernels above and including 3.9.
    2) Another solution is to install the Intel driver to handle the screens
    3) Enter the BIOS and changed the default graphics setting from 'Optimus' to 'Discrete' and the install NVIDIA drivers
    I tried them all:
    1) I had NVIDIA driver version 337 installed, but I don't know how to turn on Optimus support
    3) I check my bios settings, but there is no such option
    2) I removed the nvidia drivers and then installed intel drivers. I removed /etc/x11/xorg.conf
startx now find screens. I guess there is no 2d or 3d acceleration, but it works
    Thank you

  • Spice on KVM, mouse scrolling no longer works

    Hi,
Using a redhat workstation, I have installed archlinux on KVM using virt-manager, set the display to spice and video to qxl. On the guest arch linux, I have installed from AUR xf86-video-qxl and spice-vdagent.  So far so good.  However,  scrolling using the wheel mouse does not work anymore when the spice-vdagentd is running.  If I stop spice-vdagent, scrolling works again.
Anybody have a workaround with spice-vdagent and mouse scrolling?
    Thanks in advance.

It probably needs a clean the instructions are at
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417
I clean the scroll ball about every 4 weeks or so
    chris

    Some other info:
You  know that you can control Photoshop input fields http://screencast.com/t/ApVseKYRxz with the mouse scroll wheel. Pretty handy indeed. You just have to click on the field and spin the wheel and values changing.
    The problem:
My mouse wheel cannot control the input fields in this way. I select the field, spin the wheel and nothing happen. When I spin it faster a couple of times, than the values get changing - pretty strange ha? Scrolling normally - do not change, scrolling fast change. But to scroll fast is not an option because I cannot change the values slightly with small increments... There is a bug really...
What I tried and didn't work:
    1. Restarted Photoshop
    2. Plug/Unplug and change different USB slots for both receivers.
    3. Reintalling latest SetPoint Drivers (after uninstall I run ccleaner)
    4. Put all SetPoint settings to defaults (because I programmed some mouse keys to Photoshop specifically).
    5. Install earlier versions of SetPoint drivers.
    6. Set my UEFI BIOS to defaults.
    7. Restarted the BIOS to load all the drivers again, but still no luck
(the last think I didn't do is to reinstall Photoshop)
What I have investigated so far:
    1. When I restart the computer and run Photoshop it works perfect HA! , but after a seconds it do not words again ...
    2. When I stop SetPoint software, when I shut down it, it words perfect.
    3. When I unplug keyboard receiver it words perfect, but I do not have keyboard:)
    4. Everything works perfect in Illustrator and After effects.
    5. Also I noticed that when I scroll images in CameraRaw - http://screencast.com/t/xKnn6cY9 the I have to scroll harder and spin the wheel harder to scroll - the same problem.
    6. Also in photoshop and bridge scrolling here - is pretty smooth and works perfect - http://screencast.com/t/75IXMG6Zria
Maybe the most important part - When I start experiencing the problem:
I had same configuration , same everything and everything worked fine.
I installed SSD disk, reinstalled Windows (same like before), updated my BIOS to UEFI. Installed Photoshop and SetPoint and problem started.
Posted same request to Logitech, but want to ask you for help too.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
    I found a solution.
    1. Uninstall your current Setpoint Driver.
    2. Run CCleaner - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
    3. Download an older version of SetPoint - http://www.oldapps.com/setpoint.php
    (I used SetPoint 6.15 (x64), I tried 6.20, 6.32, 6.50 , but no luck)
    4. Now everything is all right!
    Thanks!
Can somebody mark this as solved? Thanks!

  • System Settings will not save my desired mouse scroll direction

I understand the Apple genius of wanting the Settings: Mouse: Scroll direction: Natural box to be checked.  But **** it, this is MY iMac and I want the scroll direction to remain Unchecked, so the screen scrolls in the direction I’ve been used to for YEARS.
The problem is the System Settings will not save the unchecked scroll box.  I have to return to the System Settings every time I log on to UN check the Scroll Direction: Natural box.
Will Apple ever fix this so that I, and others, can operate the scrolling as THEIR LONG-TIME USER sees fit?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Magic Mouse (Scrolling and Swiping)

I know this has been asked several times, but I have gone through most of the posts to try and find a solution, and nothing has helped.
I initially lost scroll and swipe about 6 months ago, and ended up downloading MagicDriver (which has now expired and will not be developed any further). That was a solution for the time being. I've killed off the USBdriver file, I've reset everything I could reset, I've even gone so far as to buy a NEW magic mouse, thinking perhaps my "old" one was having issues.
But, I'm still unable to scroll or swipe.
I've tried turning my mouse on and off, and now it won't even connect to the computer... I'm kind of at a loss for what to do at this point.

I have had all the slow and other cursor problems described and was becoming desperate with withdrawal symptoms having had to use a wired standard WIndows mouse.
PROBLEM SOLVED - I noticed horizontal scrolling had improved whereas vertical was still appalling.
CLEANED THE MOUSE LENSES with spectacle cloth and cleaning fluid - cloth dampened.
Everything now BEAUTIFUL! and I am able to do amazing things having set up variousa options with MagicPrefs

  • Loss of Mouse Scroll Wheel Function

I took a leap and a leap of faith upgrading from Firefox 3.something to 11.0. I'm working through the little annoying differences in the user interface, but I'm having a problem with scrolling.
I can't put my finger on any particular web site or page size, but I find that occasionally my mouse scroll wheel will stop working with Firefox and I must use the scroll bar to move through a document. Once it goes, it's gone. I can move to another tab that previously scrolled with the wheel and it no longer does.
If I close Firefox and restart it, the scroll wheel works again (even with the page on which it previously quit. If I leave Firefox running but switch to another application, the scroll wheel works there, so it's unlikely that the driver has become corrupted.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox 11.0 (downloaded and installed 4/5/2012)

I doubt that I have a PDF open in another tab because I don't use the PDF plug-in to Firefox. When I go to a web site with a PDF and click on it, I get a pop-up that asks if I want to open it (I use Foxit) or save the file. I often have a PDF open when I'm on a web site however. I just opened one and everything's still OK. Then I went to a web site where I clicked on a PDF and told it to open it with Foxit, and things are still OK.
Like I said, I haven't yet found anything that consistently makes it happen.
As for updates, I really want to know if there's anything specific that might cause this problem. I don't like to make updates, not even Windows updates, unless I see that the update either solves a problem or gives me a feature that I really need. I look at the Windows updates and they all seem to be about security, which isn't a problem here. In the case of installing the new Firefox, I was getting tired of web sites telling me that I had an unsupported web browser (though usually I could get what I wanted). I'm NOT going to just let Windows do what it wants with my computer. I depend on it too much to do that.
Could it be that something that Firefox needs is running out of memory after browsing for a while? Is there something I could check for that? I think I have 1 GB of RAM in this Pentium 4.

  • [close]testing xorg, evdev mouse, keyboard problems

    found this thread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=44311
just updated this morning, have testing active. running KDEmod, my mouses movement now seem to be restricted to a verticle movement up and down screen,  keyboard also seems to be exhibiting some strange behaviour. I'm guessing this is something to do with evdev, hal changes mentioned in the upgrade help text. Anybody got any ideas?
    thanks

Does export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 in your .bashrc and restarting X help? Or if that doesn't work does recompiling Xorg with https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13808 help? well i don't think so... I think this is a udev issue where udev changes & creates new devices confusing the X server thus leading to the plethora of problems mentioned here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cg … arch=mouse where the keyboard can sometimes influence the mouse etc.. I know iv'e had a bunch of these errors previously..

  • Mouse Scroll Wheel Broken in Commenting Pane

    Hello,
In Acrobat XI Pro, the mouse scroll wheel does not work for me in the Comments List area of the Comment pane. I've read other posts where users are reporting the same problem. This worked in Acrobat X.
I'm a technical writer and frequently get upwards of 50 comments in a PDF that I need to scroll through. It is a huge time waster to use the arrow keys or move my mouse to click. Adobe, is there a fix for this problem? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I've tried two different mice.
    Thanks!
    Justin

Found the problem.  For years the mouse portion of my xorg.conf said
    protocol    PS/2
... as noted previously, that always worked, including scroll wheel usage.  But a little hunting turned up the advice to change it to IMPS/2 and now it works again.  For the record, the complete entry now says:
    Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier    "Maus"
        Driver        "mouse"
        Option        "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
        Option        "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option        "CorePointer"
        Option        "Buttons"    "5"
        Option        "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    EndSection

  • Adobe Muse - Smooth Scrolling to Anchors Using Mouse Scroll

I am wondering if there is a way to set up smooth scrolling to anchors with the mouse scroll in adobe muse. I can do it using links, but it would be great if the user could just start scrolling and it smoothly jumps to the next section. This looks great and would solve the issues created by variant mouse wheel speeds. Any help would be great, thanks!
    Here is an example: Layers

There is a widget that does this quite well.  I posted it earlier, but it mist have had a mistake... or someone deleted it?  Oh well, if it disappears I wont repost it haha.
