Encrypted attachments

Hello,
Thanks in advance for your help.
I am attempting to allow users of Adobe Reader to attach their own documents to a PDF such that their documents get encrypted during the attachment.  I know that I can do this in Adobe Acrobat (via Security Envelopes).  I can also attach files to a PDF in Reader (via comments, provided they've been enabled).  Is it possible to do what I'm asking (basically create something similar to a Security Envelope in Reader)?
I know that I could encrypt the files prior to attaching them to the PDF, but we're hoping to avoid the extra step.
Thanks again for your time and your help.

I still suggest you to add open password  of the PDF file using Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Reader could do nothing for you.

  • Opening encrypted attachments

I am not able to open encrypted attachments although I try to put my finger on the PDF attachment and then try to open it in Adobe.
Is there a version discrepancy or is there another suggestion?

    Version 11.2.3
When I get an email that has an encrypted attachment (PDF), I press the PDF attachment with my finger, then there is a pop up for which I select Adobe to open the attachment in. After putting in the code, the original email pops up without the attachment.

  • How can I encrypt attachments send by Filelink like normal attachments?

In the help of the Filelink functionallity I could not find any instruction how to encrypt attachments send by Filelink in the same way as by the normal e-mail attachment (SSL).
Is there no possibility to do this or is it just not described. If it is, please send me a link.
    Thanks.

    Hello Guys,
thanks for some further insight. @Zenos pointed out, that some e-mail providers only encrypt the Login data by SSL/TLS and not the message and attachment. Therefore I checked this on the website of my provider GMX and luckily they encrypt the Login, message and attachement of every e-mail. As far as the recipient also uses such a provider, then all the data are encrypted on the ways between me and my provider, my provider and his provider, his provider and him. Since this year, all the big providers in Germany introduced this full SSL encryption for all data send by e-mail (http://www.e-mail-made-in-germany.de/Verschluesselung.html).
I understand that additional encryption by programmes like S/MIME or GPG does this too but has the additional advantage that the data are encrypted while being on the servers. The bad side of this methods seems to be some additional effort to exchange keys between recipient and sender - although it is not clear to me whether this is done over the internet or phoning or paper mail is necessary.
Thanks to @christ1 for pointing out that Filelink uses HTTPS, which means that it has the same security level as my normal e-mails with standard attachment, since they are send by SSL/TLS, but not encrypted on the servers. This seems to be identical when using Filelink. This answers my question. Thanks to both. :-)
Actually I found that the problem, why I didn't get this from the mozilla help page is that I read the German mozilla help page which has a translation error. The English help page is clearly saying "Note that standard attachment functionality is also not encrypted." (Which can be easily overcome, if you switch SSL/TLS on in Thunderbird settings. This should be added to the help page here, i suggest !!!)
However, on the German help page it says " Wir weisen Sie darauf hin, dass die Standard-Funktionalität von Filelink keine Verschlüsselung von Anhängen vorsieht." Which means, that the standard funcionallity of Filelink uses no encryption for the attachments. So while the English help refers to the standard e-mail with standard attachment, the German page refers to Filelink. I think this error was introduced in the translation.
However, I see clearly that the help page does not make clear the distinction between encryption during sending and encryption during the storage on the servers. Thats why the confusion comes from.
As a summary I would put it like this: (do you agree?)
Standard e-mails (including login data, e-mail text, standard attachment) are not encrypted by Thunderbird during sending to your e-mail provider unless in the settings "SSL/TLS" is chosen. Then at least the login data are encrypted during sending, but whether the e-mail text and standard attachments are also encrypted during sending depends on your e-mail provider. On the server of the e-mail providers all the data are not encrypted again, unless you use additional programmes to encrypt the e-mail text and standard attachments prior to sending. Filelink attachments always use HTTPS connections, which means that the attachments are encrypted by SSL/TLS during sending to the Filelink provider. On his server, the data are not encrypted any more unless you have encrypted the data with an additional programme before sending it. Which in the end means that Filelink is as secure or unsecure as standard Thunderbird e-mails with standard attachments when using the SSL/TLS option in the Thunderbird settings.
    Ok. Thanks for clarification.
What I still don't understand is, why the encryption, which can be done by S/MIME or GPG is not included in Thunderbird, so that everyone can encrypt his e-mail easily without additional programmes before sending?

  • Auto encrypt attachments

    Hello,
I was wondering if it's somehow possible to encrypt ms word documents or PDF files automatically with a passphrase via exchange online policies ?
Currently, I have a user who is manually password protecting ms word files before they email them and we would like to somehow automate this process.
    Thanks in advance.

There is no such option/setting on an iPhone. Whether you can view the attachment has more to do with your connection, WiFi or cellular, and the size of the attachment or the overall size of all attachments if more than one attachment, than anything else. There will be a paperclip indicating the message includes an attachment regardless if downloaded with the message or not. When connected to the cellular network, if an attachment is below a designated size the attachment will be downloaded automatically. If over a certain size, you must select the attached file icon in the body of the message to download the attachment. The size limit varies by carrier/provider.

  • Additional Encrypted Attachments

    Hello,
Thanks in advance for your help.  I wanted to see if there was any way to allow an Adobe Reader user to add encrypted files (attachments) to an existing security envelope created in Acrobat?  If we send a security envelope to someone without Acrobat, can they respond with their own Adobe encrypted docs.  Buying Acrobat for all of our users is not really an option.  Also, we could encrypt outside of Adobe, but we're hoping to cut out extra steps.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again for your help.

Reader cannot modify pdf files other than comments or filling out form fields and signatures when allowed.

  • Password protected attachments not stripped

    Greetings,
I have setup a rule in our IronPort C360 that is supposed to block "protected attachments" - encrypted and password protected files. I have a content filter setup with the condition under Attachment Protection of "One or more attachments are protected." The action applied to this filter is "Strip Attachment by Content" where the attachment contains .*
This is working on encrypted attachments, but password protected attachments are not being stripped.
Is there some way to make both work?
    Thanks,
    -so

    Thanks for the reply, Staylor.
It turned out the action needed to be changed. Because the files were password protected on read the scanner could not see the contents.
Changing the action to 'Strip Attachment by File Info' and setting the condition to 'File size is greater than: 1 byte' caused the protected file to be stripped.

  • Sophos detecting PDF's as encrypted

    Good morning,
I have a question and I'm hoping that someone here can help me.  We've recently installed a couple of virtual C100V appliances into our environment running AsyncOS 8.0.0.
We have content filters in place to detect encrypted attachments and automatically quarantine them, this process seems to be working fairly well, however we're seeing alot of regular PDF attachments being flagged by Sophos as encrypted.  I can open/read the PDF's that it flags without any problems, so I'm not sure what exactly is 'encrypted' about it?  Is this a known bug in Sophos?
The way we're quaranting them is by setting a custom header in the AV section of the mail policy, then have a content filter to check to see if that header exists, and if it does, quarantine and notify the receipient.  I tried just using the built in "Is attachment protected", but it was missing some items in the tests that I performed, where Sophos seemed rock solid on detecting encrypted attachments.
    Thanks!
    Warren

  • Break up the Virus quarantine into two Encrypted & Unscannable?

Currently Encrypted attachments and Unscannable attachments end up in the same Virus quarantine, is there a way to split them up into two separate quarantines one called Encrypted the other Unscannable for example.

    Hi Greg,
there is no direct way to archive this, but it is possible via content filters. Basically you need to do three things:
    1. Create your quarantines for the enrypted and unscannable verdicts, for that you maybe need to reduce the size of the other system quarantines to make room for the new quarantines.
    2. In the mail policy settings (inbound and/or outbound, wherever you have antivirus enabled), configure the antivirus settings to "Deliver as is" for the Encrypted and Unscannable Messages. Also, under the advanced options for both message types, add a custom header and result, i.e AVRESULT, ENCRYPTED.
    3. Create two content filters matching on each of these headers, with a quarantine action where you select the specific quarantine you have created in step one.
    Submit and commit.
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas

  • Using PGP on a BlackBerry 9790, how-to?

I want to install the PGP Package on my 9790 to encrypt and decrypt emails from my emailbox to another using the public and private keys; is this possible?

  • How about the next step: Acrobat for iOS?

It's great to have Adobe Reader available. I would love Adobe to also make Acrobat avaliable (probably as a paid application) for the iPad (and optionally the iPhone). In Acrobat for iOS I would like to have at least the following features available:
    - page handling (remove, split, combine, rotate, etc.)
    - annotations
    - encryption
    - attachments
    - bookmarks
Preferably, I would also like to have redaction available.
I look forward to what Adobe is creating for users with a PDF centric workflow who increasingly use their iPad to do more and more of what they used to do on their PC's in the office.
    Thanks, Peter Dubbelman

Acrobat builds on reader I guess or at least for the most part, the problem is that all those above features should be in reader as well however they are either not ready or not released! There is little point in acrobat for iPad! Reader at least must be enhanced beyond any other reader out there as this is adobe doing it and have years of experience and resources and support unlike any other.

  • PGP Support for BlackBerry Update

    Hi,
Are there any plans, dates or details for an update to the PGP Support for Blackberry package?
Also, what is the process for logging & tracking feature requests relating to this package?
The particular feature we desperately want to see is:
To give a user the ability to send an encrypted e-mail with attachments from a BlackBerry device that is operating the PGP Support for BlackBerry package.
Currently the package can receive (decrypt) emails with attachments and only send (encrypt) emails without attachments. There is no workaround for this and it is a mayor limitation of the PGP Support for BlackBerry package. It is holding back the package from being rolled out to a larger market audience, and limiting existing users tremendously.
This feature request has now been logged with Symantec:
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/ideas/pgp-support-blackberry-encrypted-e-mail-attachments
    and emailed to [email protected]
Any advice, comments or thoughts are welcomed.
    Thanks,

I too would love to see this update! I feel most of RIM's resources are probably being put into getting BB 10 and infrastructure ready for launch?
My workaround for this issue is to install the SMIME support package and have users send encrypted attachments via SMIME. PGP support package has been updated to work with the SMIME package (to a degree). It automatically looks up certificates attached to the PGP users keys and encrypts and decrypts based on those public/private certificates.
Unfortunely the SMIME package isnt as user friendly, users contantly have to hit the blackberry button and then more or more all to load the entire message for longer messages and messages with attachments.
So far I can't seem to get AES Encryption working with the SMIME support package, only have managed to get 3DES and a few other inferior encryption algoriths to work with the SMIME package.

  • How do I send/email Documents with high security and password protected

I want to send Documents securely to my clients. What product do I need and how do I send/email with password protection? I recently purchased Adobe Send but not sure this was the right product needed to send my documents securely?

In Acrobat you can create a Portfolio in which your documents (any types) will be placed as attachments and encrypt the whole portfolio. You can also create a small PDF, possibly with explanation what is in it, attach your files to it, and encrypt this PDF. In this case you can encrypt attachments only, so that the user can open the shell PDF but to extract the files would need to know the password.

  • PDF Attachments are the same in a signed/encrypted email

I made a java backend that runs on AIX and sends encrypted/signed emails with S/MIME with 4 different PDF files attached, but the ipad and the iphone show all the attached files all alike, the user sees the first pdf file and then when he tries to see the others, the info of the first one is displayed in the second and the third one and so on, but the macbook pro, android, blackberry, windows clients show the attachments properly

    Hi,
Are the PDF files showing with the PDF icon or other icons in your local disk?
Please start Outlook in sate mode and test again. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook /safe and press Enter.
In addition, you may also try to clean out the Temporary Outlook Files folder to check the result. See:
