Encryption Scheme used by Oracle Database

Dear Experts,
I am doing research on database security. I need some help and guidelines.
1. Which Encryption scheme Oracle use to secure database?
2. How can be keep safe data from database administrator?
3. Is database security depends on Operating System?
Regards,
Shah Jehan

The docs are at http://tahiti.oracle.com.
There are many different things you can secure and many different ways to secure them.
What is missing from your inquiry is a version number.
Here are some links to encryption related technologies:
http://www.morganslibrary.org/library.html
Look up:
Data Pump -- secure your exports
DBMS_CRYPTO -- secure your data
Net Services -- secure network transmission
RMAN -- secure backups
SecureFiles -- encrypt data
Tablespaces -- encrypt data
Transparent Data Encryption -- encrypt data
Not one of them has anything to do with Advanced Compression so why did you post your inquiry here?
Please do not respond in this thread but, instead, post a new thread in "Database - General" where your inquiry belongs.
Thank you.

You can (using database links), but this will generally result in even poorer performance (unless by "another Oracle database" you mean using RAC?)
It sounds more like you either need to upgrade your systems, or refactor your applications to have a smaller performance footprint.

Our organization uses an Oracle database hosted on a Unix platform and one of our data processing outputs is a “stuffer” document that has a barcode, and Unix jobs automatically send the document to a printer.
Is there a way, or does Adobe have a product or solution, to create a PDF version of the document including the barcode, before it’s sent to a printer?

What format is the document that is printed? Or what technology is used to format the printer? There isn't a standard way of doing things in Unix.

• Using the Oracle Database XE Menus on Linux

I've installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition at my Mandriva Linux rel. 2006.0 server. Everything went ok, the database is up and running.
But, the "Getting Started Guide" chapter 6, refers to howto "using the Oracle Database XE Menus" --> "On Linux, click the Application menu (on Gnome) or the K menu (on KDE) and then point to Oracle Database 10g Express Edition". I'm not able find anything like this in my KDE menus ??. Do anyone know which binaryfile i can start, to get the into the XE Menus.
As far as i can see, my only option is to connect to the database through the browser --> http://localhost:8080/apex or from outside --> http://server01:8080/apex (the remote connection is enabled).
Rgds
Lars Myraas

I found the oraclexe*.desktop files here:
/var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/OracleXE
Linked from here: /usr/share/applications
I'm not sure why KDE won't show the OracleXE KDE menu. But as a quick fix I copied all the oraclexe*.desktop files to my $HOME/Desktop
Better that nothing, but I would like to get the menu for OracleXE into my KDE menu?!
I'm running KDE throug vncviewer, maybe thats the problem.

• Can I install two versions of SOA suite using same Oracle database

Condition:
I installed Weblogic server(10.3.5) and SOA Suite(11.1.1.5), and
I used RCU 11.1.1.5 to create the schemas(Oracle DB 11g-111170) for it.
Plan:
Now I plan to install another Weblogic server(10.3.6) and SOA Suite (11.1.1.6)
and I will used RCU 11.1.1.6 to create the schemas for it.
Question:
Can I use same database(Oracle DB 11g-111170) for the two versions of SOA Suite? that is
Can I Run the RCU 11.1.1.6 to create the schemas for SOA Suite (11.1.1.6) on the oracle database server I already used for SOA Suite 11.1.1.5?
If I can use same database for the two versions of SOA Suite, how can I resolve schame name conflict?

Hi
1. YES. You can absolutely use SAME DB to have multiple Versions of SOA Schemas.
2. Any SOA/BPM will need basically 4/5 schemas like SOAINFRA, MDS, ORABAM, ORASDPM etc. based on what you choose. And each of these Schemas can be Prefixed. Default prefix is like DEV, so schemas are like DEV_SOAINFRA, DEV_MDS etc
3. Very Simple. When you Run RCU 11.6 and give the same old db details, in next screen it will automatically show the new Prefix for the schemas it will create. If DEV is used, it will show DEV1 like that. So just choose a Different Prefix and you are good to go.
I have the same thing on my side. Single Database. Multiple RCU for SOA 11.5 and SOA 11.6 with different Prefixes:
SOA 11.5 -> DEV115_SOAINFRA, DEV115_MDS, DEV115_ORABAM etc
SOA 11.6 -> DEV116_SOAINFRA, DEV116_MDS, DEV116_ORABAM etc
I Used the Prefixes like DEV115, DEV116 so that I know exactly which version of RCU schema they refer to.
For QC, UAT, PROD we used prefixes like QC_*, UAT_*, PROD_* etc.
NOTE: When you drop the schemas for some reason, make sure to give the appropriate prefixes so that only they are dropped and not others.
Thanks

• What type of encryption is using in Oracle Application (EBS)?

Dear all,
I am using oracle application version 11.5.8 and the oracle database version is
9.2.0.4. When I am login the oracle application, what type of encryption is?
How can I know?
Best Regards,
Amy

As standard? None.
Are you talking about password encryption in 11.5.8 ? It's a reversible encryption algorithm.
Are you talking about the network layer? Only if you've setup to run https mode.

• How To Pass Oracle Procedure Value using Tidal Oracle Database Job Definition to Tidal Variable

how do i pass the parameter value from an oracle database tidal job to a tidal variable? for example i have this oracle db job that is defined to execute an oracle database procedure and i need to pass the parameter value to the tidal variable.
SQL tab:
begin
procedure_get_user_info(<OracleUserVariable.1>);
end;
thanks,
warren

tesmcmd is a binary that sits in your TIDAL master installation bin directory. It takes options, one of which is varset which let's you set variable values.
So you can run a system level script ( a unix example is given below) which can set values for group variables.
Looking at your example you need to find a way to define OracleUserVariable.1
Where does the value for this variable come from?
Sample variable set script:
GROUP_FILE_VAR=`echo $2 | sed -e 's/\.xml\.pgp/\.xml/'`
tesmcmd varset -i $1 -n GROUP_FILE_XML -v $GROUP_FILE_VAR
XSD_FILE_VAR=`echo $2 | sed -e 's/\.xml\.pgp/\.xsd/'`
tesmcmd varset -i $1 -n GROUP_FILE_XSD -v $XSD_FILE_VAR
And we call the job using
setvar.sh <JobID..p> <Group.REQUEST_FILE>
which are overrides from a file event.

• What kind of storage we should use for oracle database?

Hi
thank you for reading my post
Can some one please explain what kind of hardware storage is common for oracle database, and kindly please provide some explanations about the reason that we can use such storage?

Perhaps you're thinking about RAID, an acronym for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks? That's not specific to Oracle by any means, it's a very common way of setting up multiple disks in a server so that the failure of one or two disks doesn't cause the system to lose any data. If you're dealing with a server of any size or any sort of SAN or NAS device, it is going to use RAID, the question is which form of RAID (there are different sorts of configurations with different levels of cost, performance, and durability).

There are 5 special characters which in xml & < > " ' if the Oracle fields contain any of those characters it will cause invaild xml.
This can be solved at the oracle side be replacing the special characters by it's html encode equivalent, so & becomes & , I think the best way to solve it
is to make a custom pipeline component and translate the special characters there.
There is my Send Port Properties. Do you mean the default biztalk pipeline component ("XML Receive") cannot translate any special characters?

• Automatically complete a word template using the oracle database

I have a Microsoft office word template and I would like to automatically complete some fields using data from my Oracle 10g database. For example where I have the text “Dear Mr.” I want to get the name of that person from a table in the database. Also by pressing a button in Oracle forms I want to open the word document to see the result. Any ideas how to do that? Thank you.
