Enhancement from EHP3 to EHP4

Hi All,
We are currently on Enhancment Package 3 and doing full implementation of Travel Management Module with Language Support.
To maintain the translations the changes are made to SAP Standard objects like -
OTR Packages - PTRM_WEB_UI , PTRM_WEB_POWL
Classes - CL_FITV_TEXT
Data Elements etc..
I want to know whether the changed translations will remain when the EHP4 will be applied.
Please provide valuable pointers.

Thanks for the reply.
The point that i got from your reply is that if SAP enhances those objects for which we have done some customizations or changes then applying the package will overwrite those changes. Am i correct ?
Is there any program that we can run to avoid overwriting of objects ? I have heard about transaction spdd. Is this of any help.
I am actually more concerned about future since the system will surely be upgraded and then there will be chance to lose all the changes done for translations.

General experiences from ehp3 to ehp4

We are considering the move from ehp3 to ehp4 pending some input and consent from our business units.
Our issue is that applying ehp3 was very "painful". It took a long time and was technically very challenging. We have since had turnover in our SAP system administration team and have a very thin team both in numbers and experience.
Consequently, we were wondering in general terms what we might expect based on others experience. Both in terms of time to prepare and implement.
We have been doing some preliminary investigation into this issue and are aware of then necessity to completely understand the EHP installer and Solution manager integration, but are also interested in any other practical "lessons learned".
We have read many "official" claims of reduced effort and downtime, but have also heard of actual implentations that aren't exactly in line with these expectations.
So again, any general review would be a great help!

We also had a lot of problems with EHP3, especially with very long elapse times to implement all the patches via SPAM/SAINT.
EHP4 however went very smoothly, EHP4 uses the EHP installer which limits the downtime significantly (downtime only 5 hours in our case).
What I always recommend is the following link :

Especially the document "Must Know", explains very well the lifecycle of the EHP installation, from preparation phase to implementation phase.
The document also contains very interesting SAP Notes and also explains how the Solution Manager MOPZ should be used and configured.
Preparation is the key factor in a successfull EHP implementation, this document is a good starting point.

Going from EHP3 to EHP4

Experts,
We already have ECC6.0Ehp3. After installing EHp3, we activated 2 business function sets in SFW5 and followed the normal processes to get this moved into the other clients. No problem!
That was many months ago. now, we are ready to do Ehp4 and that is my question.
Knowing that we are already on EhP3 and have already activated business function sets, eg ISU_UTIL_1 / ISU_UTIL_WASTE, etc.
So once we finished the install of EhP4 via the Enhancement Pack installer, will we need to go back to SFW5 and activate business function sets again? We already have all the functionality we need from when we did the SFW5 after EHP3 install, I don't want to activate anything new, but I wonder if that is a requirement when going from one EHP to a new one? If so, how do we keep from overwriting the config we already have?
I have fully read the following guides:

Thanks again for following up, but I have seen this and fully read the note. Let me be more specific:
Is there any one out there who has applied a previous ECC Enhancement Pack (like EHP3, then activated a business function set in SFW5 (like IS-util), then copied the customization to all clients....and THEN at a later date applied EHP4 ???
If so, after applying EHP4, did you AGAIN have to go into SFW5? If not SFW5, did you have to use SCU0 to find additional features from existing business sets in client 000 and again copy that into the productive clients?
I know what the ambiguous documentation says, but when it comes down to REALLY doing this, I am still not clear. Please don't bother cutting/pasting sections from the tech guide and SAP note I have already referenced in a previous post. I have ready them....
Maybe I'm over-thinking this.....
Also, what if I wanted to activate a complely new business function set? After activating in SFW5, has anyone done this in a way that copies the new functionality in 000 but does not stomp on the previous customization from other activations?

ESS Business Packages Migration from Ehp3 to Ehp4 with Custom Changes

We are using ECC 6.0 With Ehp3 and We have the following versions of ESS and MSS Business Packages Installed.
SAP_ESS 603 SP4
SAP_MSS 600 SP15
We have NWDI server also installed in this and made some Customizations in ESS Webdynpro Java based applications.
We have freshly installed a new portal development server with Netweaver 7.0 Ehp1 to cleanup unneccessary stuffs in our existing development portal server and pointed to the upgraded backend ECC 6.0 Ehp4.
The NWDI also installed freshly in the new server.
While upgrading, following Business Packages versions are recommended by SAP.
SAP_ESS 603 SP6
MSS 600 SP17
PCUI_GP 603 Sp 06
Now in the New portal server every applications works fine as delivered Out of the box and we are missing all the Webdynpro Java customizations which we have made as part of the Ehp3 based ESS Implementation.
We are in the process of Creating the New track in the New NW 7.0 Ehp1 server and import the .SCA files.
My Question is how can we get the automatic migration process, so that the Webdynpro Java Customizations which we have done in the Previous track in Ehp3 with different ESS SP level can be carry forwarded to our New NWDI Server.
How can we go ahead?. We are thinking of the following options and your suggestions are highly appreciated.
1. Import the .SCA files related to Ehp4 and do the Webdynpro Java changes manually again in the DCs of Newly created track    in the New NWDI server.
2. Is there a way to migrate a Track from One Server to another NWDI server with the Custom changes carry forwarded.
What are all the possible ways to achieve track migration to the new server with custom changes carry forwarded.

There is a cook book provided by SAP as attachment of note 872892. you can follow the process to have your custom DC's migrated to new Support pack of ESS/MSS.

Deleting a component in an enhancement from SMOD

Hi,
I have deleted a component in an enhancement from SMOD and activated the project in CMOD. Iam getting the expected results in developemnt system .
When I transport the changes to quality , I see that component is deleted , but, the corresponding function is still being called .
Please help on this.

There have been lot of enhancements incorporated in BPC 7.0
1. BPC 5.1 was running either on SQL 2000 or SQL 2005. However, BPC 7.0 works on SQL 2005 or SQL 2008. The preferred one is SQL 2008, since the performance is much better.
2. Because of the change in the SQL version, BPC 5.1 was able to support DTS packages alongwith DTSX. However, BPC 7.0 supports only DTSX packages.
3. The logic debugger is in place to debug the script logics.
4. While processing the dimension, there is an option for validating the dimension logics written.
Hope this gives you some idea on the enhancements.

I was looking through the release notes for EHP3 and EHP4.
But I'm unable to focus on the technical news. It is sorted by functional modules or industries.
Can someone provide me the main tehnical news (printing forms, abap codes, ..) that are included ?
Or do you know how I can find the technical improvements of these packages ?

EHP3 and EHP4 compatibiltiy

Hi All,
In my project, client had asked to work on EHP4, now the requirements have changed to install few reports in EHP3.
but there are some financial reports tht i have installed and loaded data and they are working fine in the BI system w.r.t EHP4.
Now I need to install some EHP3 Financial reports
Please respond if there will be any issues to have both EHP4 and EHP3 reports in the same BI system?

As I understood, EHP3 and EHP4 are two sorcxe system and you want to run the reports in the same BI box w.r.to these two source system. This can be done. There should not be a proble. You will be having two datasource that will corresponds to these two siurce syatem respectively.

Internal error while clicking on Candidate search from Recruiter role-EHP4

We are getting intrnal error while clicking on candidate search or any search option from recruiter log on after upgrading to EHP4.
after doing analysis through SLG1, we found below issues.

We searched in SDN and got one threads with similar kind of errors. As mentioned in the thread, we have activated below items.
1. HCM_ERC_SES_1-activated
2. Customizing table T77RCF_SPT maintained with required information
3. Run report RCF_PERIODICAL_SERVICES to update table T77RCF_INT_PUB.
Still we are getting error as mentioned above. Can anybody help on this?

Dear Purnima,
You should have a look at it in client 000. This is where you can find the table entries how they are shipped with SAP. Problem is that this is the search customizing and if we have other customizing entries in our system they don't suit to your system because I found one different entry in table V77RCF_SMG_NAVI. Please can you check out all tables and compare them with your client 000? (all tables in IMG candidate search > search profile and search templates).

Query to calculate downtime while upgrading from ECC to EHP4

I am having below doubts for calculating downtime phase for ehp4 downtime.
1.Do the end users will be able to work (In Production) in pre-processing phase in EHP4 upgrade u2026? (I think yes)
2.How we will count the downtime like from Preprocessing phase to until System is up ? or we will count from Downtime Phase. (I think from downtime phase)

Yes. Users will be able to work till pre-processing phase.

There is no formula to calculate downtime as it depends upon number of factors like system resources (RAM &CPU), no. of R3load processes, no. of background processes, Parameters tuning etc.
Do a test upgrade on your sandbox system (copy of production system) to get idea of downtime required.

Enhancing from three sources

Hi
i have a situation where i have to enhance FI_AP extractor and the data to that enhanced feild should come from a customized extractor, which is built on a view( based on two tables.)
But the thing is there is no keyfeild in common between them to join and populate data. so i am planning to use a third table which is also customized table. It has one keyfeild in common with fi extractor(suppose fid) and it has three keyfeilds(suppose a,b,c) in common with the customized extractor.
can any one help me with the code.
joining using the third table does it populate the correct data.

Steps to enhance an extractor:
1. Enhance extract structure - select the datasource in RSA6 and click "Enhance Extraction Structure'. Create the append structure containing the extra fields you wish to send to BW.
2. Function enhancement - select the datasource in RSA6 and click "Function Enhancement". Create a project (ZBW). Display the enhancments and assign RSAP0001. Click the "Components" button and modify function exit "EXIT_SAPRLSAP_001" to get your additional data from the business object.
3. Replicate the datasource to BW.
4. Create your own InfoObject Catalog and InfoObjects for the additional data. You may wish to use existing ones.
5.create DSO object and create trsformation and DTP..

LO cockpit enhanced from custom Z table

I have enhanced a character field in VCITM data source by updating it from a custom table.
I know that custom table will be filled every day in the evening at 6PM. And my BI process chain will execute at midnight.
How do I set delta queque to get this field populated along with other data.

You need to write ABAP code to populate this Filed in R/3 under tcode CMOD.
While loading the data to BI this filed will be populated according to the selection condition you give in this code.

SRM 7 SOCO enhancement - from step1 to step2, how to get selected items?

Hi all gurus,
I'm enhancing the WD /SAPSRM/WDC_DO_SOCO_GAF_1, specifically my requirement is to block FPM navigation if certain conditions based on the selection are met.
Example:
An user searches for some PR in sourcing cockpit's step 1, select just a subset from the search result (say, he selects item 1 and item 3, leaving item 2 unselected).
Then press the NEXT STEP button (which is, as far as I understood, an element managed by the COMPONENTCONTROLLER)..
Let's suppose the condition we talked about is that each position of a specific PR should be selected; the example above does not meet that condition (only positions 1 and 3 are selected).
What I'd like to implement is as follows:
- if the user presses the NEXT_STEP, navigation to the newt WD is cancelled (user remains in STEP 1) and an explicative error message is raised in the message area (e.g. "all positions must be selected").
Looking for the best, effective way to do this... In particular, I have to:
-1- identify which positions have been selected when the NEXT_STEP button is pressed;
-2- implement the check based on positions (that's the easy job);
-3- raise a message into the messagearea (easy one) and STOP the process so that the user still remains into STEP 1 view (obviously, until his selection meets the specifics).
I actually overwrote via enhancement the standard PROCESS_EVENT method in the COMPONENTCONTROLLER of that Webdynpro (/SAPSRM/WDC_DO_SOCO_GAF_1), and I'm trying to get the selected lines.

This however returns the SEARCH_RESULTS table which contains ALL the positions in the Search table and not just the selected ones... I basically have to modify the get_selected_items, in order to get the selected lines, but actually don't know how and if it's possible; as far as I've seen in debug, there's no way to get the selection ... maybe it has already been cleared at this point?

Installing just a datasource from Ehp3

Hi,
System is ECC6 with no enhancement packs.
We are looking to develop use of BW for management accounting.
Can I install just the components of the Ehp3 relating to Profit Centre Accounting. I understand that on ECC side this is mainly about the datasource 0FI_GL_14.
Is this a difficult job?
In this situation would much testing be needed of the ordinary transactional functionality of the ECC system?

If you are planing for EHP3 then you need to patch SAP_APPL and EA-APPL. and you need to plan testing as well after upgrade.

EHP3 and EHP4

Hello,
The system's status is SEM-BW 604 SP7 which allows to activate Business function FIN_ACC_GROUPCLOSE_2 and FIN_ACC_GC_TAXRATECHG. I activated only FIN_ACC_GROUPCLOSE.
The client wants to check 2 issues before the activation:
1. The activation is independent in DEV/QA/PROD meaning I have to activate it in each environment independently . If I activate it first in DEV system and not activate in QA and PROD, will I be able to do customizing and transport changes to QA and PROD even for existing functionalities, for example, change in item hierarchy?
2. Is it possible to deactivate the Business functions if there are some problems after the activation?

i'm still wating for SAP's confirmation, but here's what i know now:

Yes, each activation involves running jobs in separate boxes, but QA and not PROD may get a transport from DEV with the A flag.

Our transports are still in DEV and nothing has moved to either QA or PROD, but we have no plans to move anything until activations are actually in place.

Note: don't try doing it yourself, but only with your friendly Basis pro as it involves stopping batch jobs and locking out the users. All of the above is relevant for ECC 6.0 box only.
