Enter key not working in Safari

I tried aqsking this question on the Safari board but no helpful answers.
The enter key on the full size keyboard is no longer functioning in Safari. The return key is working.
I am using Safari 5.1.7. OS 10.6.8.
Any suggestions on how this can be corrected. Thank you in advance.

Very odd. Do you have another keyboard you can test with? We should isolate this to either that keyboard or the computer.

    I have to use the return key for searches-the enter key is not working.
    I use Safari 5.1.7

    Is there I way to correct this.
    Thank you

    Obviously you are using a full wired keyboard. I am using a wireless Apple keyboard where the "Return" and "Enter" key are the same. Your keyboard is working properly as designed. You might want to take that giant chip off your shoulder if you want help in this forum.

  • Enter key not working in forms 10g

    Hi guys,
    Enter key to select a form is not working
    on my application.
    I have to double click the form to open it using the mouse.
    Then if we try to exit we have to press exit that many number of times as we have pressed enter key.
    So it seems to be storing the key processes.
    We are using forms 10g.
    Please help.
    Thanks and Regards,

    However, this is still strange as the old KB was working fine in other applications.

  • Enter Key - not working in URL bar

    Since the last update to FF 31 (Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit), the ENTER key has stoped working -> when typing web adress in URL bar. Hitting ENter does nothing, as well as the GO arrow (nothing as well).
    All other applications are fine, only FF is not registering the input.
    I did not install new addons, so plese don't tell me to reset.
    It was fine yesterday, is wrong today after update.
    Don't blame addons for something that is not related to this.
    Thanks.

  • Keyboard letters mixed up, enter key not working - early '11 MacBook Pro

    I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro. The keyboard randomly stopped functioning correctly, some keys didn't work at all and others would type in different symbols that I've never seen before. I reset the language it seems to have fixed most of the problems (5 keys weren't working but now they all are). The Enter key inserts a hyphen instead of its normal function and certain keys will still type in random letters. If I press shift and the ENTER key it now puts an underscore instead of a hyphen. The question mark slash button also puts a hyphen or an underscore, as does the original hyphen button. The  plus sign and equal sign button now puts a square bracket, etc. You get the idea. I have already reset the PRAM, but the problem still persists. Approximately how much would somethin© like this cost to ©ix (© replaced the f and ©©©© keys now). f and ©©© keys now.

    Try using a usb or wireless keyboard to verify that your built-in keyboard needs repair/replacement.
    I don't see how anyone here could give you a price for that, these are user/user help forums.  Take it to an Apple service facility.

  • Keyboard & enter key not working

    My Apple keyboard started giving my problems yesterday, out of the blue. The "enter" key doesn't work and some numbers don't work.
    I'm using a Power Mac OS X 10.4.9
    The only changes I made was to recently update I Tunes software. Is there something I need to reset?

    Anyone have any clues??
    As the day goes on, I'm having less and less access to keys. Now my arrow keys (up, down, left & right) aren't working. It's spreading!!
    Please someone help. I'm a graphic designer running on a tight deadline.

  • Enter Key Not Working When Using Text Tool

    For some reason, my enter key has stopped working when using the text tool.  Instead of making a soft return to a new line, it simply commits the type. What is going on here?
    I'm using a desktop and CS3.

    there are 2 enter keys in key board
    if u enter main key board enter, sentence will go to next line
    In case u enter the key  available in  rightside of the key board , in the cluster of numericals, the type tool is committed.

  • Enter key not working, in various ways

    Mac OS 10.6.8
    Indesign 7.5.2
    With the CS5.5 upgrade I cannot:
    1. When in a dialog box, neither RETURN nor ENTER works for 'OK' to accept and close the box.
    2. I cannot assign shift-command-return as a Keybaord Command for Forced Line Break. When I try I get the error "conten contains characters which cannot be encoded."

    Resetting the preferences doesn't work either. I'll try deleteing the shortcut files now and then resetting. Who knows, I may have to reinstall the ******** package again.
    Excuse me while I rant:
    I just plunked down over $500 to upgrade from CS 4 to CS5.5. I have owned it for something like a month and am still not using 5.5 because it has been so much of a production drain. Since none of my preferences were inherited from CS4. I have spent several hours in vain googling for ways to to fix without rebuilding by hand. I followed threads that said I could move my keyboard shortcuts, and eventually found in another thread, where they are stored, and then discovered by trial and error that 7.5 is really 6 and 6 is really 4 (if you know what I mean). So, this morning, thinking I was FINALLY in a place where I could use CS5.5 I discover that the return key no longer lets you say "okay" -- that is select the highlighted button in dialogue boxes. Excuse me? Isn't that keyboard action part of the Mac OS since something like the OS 1?
    Thank you Peter Spier for so clearly stating the truth: You can't migrate your keyboard shortcuts. Period. I will now enter some text so other users may find this answer with their search tools:
    Keyboard shortcuts from CS4 cannot be migrated to CS5
    CS4 to CS5 keyboard shortcuts no migration path
    CS5.5 CS5 keyboard shortcuts must be built from scratch
    Adobe this situation is really lame.

  • Text entry boxes in CP6 - Enter key to validate input does not work in Safari?

    I'm using Captivate 6 to create a step by step walkthrough of some different processes that are commonly completed in my workplace. Some of the example processes have portions where text is entered to simulate a process the end user might need.  I have text entry boxes in these slides that require validation of the input to move along, with Enter used as a shortcut key. This works great in Firefox, Chrome and IE all the way down to 8....but if the course is run in Safari, the enter key does nothing.  Is this a known issue?
    Additional info: For many of these text entry boxes, the point is that it is a search field that has a little binoculars icon next to it that executes the search in the actual software we are simulating. For these slides I actually have the submit button associated with the text box made invisible (no fill, no stroke) and placed on top of the binoculars icon. This is an acceptable method of doing the task we're demonstrating, and just so happens to be a workaround for the enter key not working in Safari. However, a few places we have text entry that doesn't have the search/binocular icon next to it because there is a different goal on that section of the software we're visualizing. In those cases, there is no place for me to put an invisible submit button, and I can't make the submit button visible because that's not how the software we're demonstrating would work (thus defeating the purpose of the training).

    Sorry, this is a known bug with no fix available yet, but the makers of SwiftKey are aware of it and we will work with them to fix it: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=617298
    For now, the only solution is to use a different keyboard when using Firefox.

  • How can i make a soft return with pages shift enter does not work!

    how can i make a soft return with pages shift plus enter does not work!!

    On full keyboards with a numeric keypad, the key above the right shift is "return" & the one on the numeric section is "enter." On a Mac (or Apple IIgs ) they do have separate functions. On the "mini" keyboards, both names are on the same key, but "enter" is written in smaller letters. I'll have to check to see how that works on another Mac later today.

  • Af:panelTabbed not working in safari 4 & 5

    Hi,
    af:panelTabbed is not working in safari 4 and 5 .
    On click of each tab it calls a javascript method.
    the javascript method do the functionality of watermark.
    The code i use for watermark is
    function adf$noValueText$intialize(event) {
    var component = event.getSource();
    component.visitChildren(adf$noValueText$replaceEmptyWithText, null, false);
    function adf$noValueText$onFocus(event) {
    adf$noValueText$replaceTextWithEmpty(event.getSource());
    function adf$noValueText$onBlur(event) {
    adf$noValueText$replaceEmptyWithText(event.getSource());
    function adf$noValueText$replaceTextWithEmpty(component) {
    var noValueText = component.getProperty("noValueText");
    if (typeof noValueText != 'undefined') {
    var domNode = document.getElementById(component.getClientId() + "::content");
    if (domNode.value == component.getProperty("noValueText")) {
    domNode.value = "";
    function adf$noValueText$replaceEmptyWithText(component) {
    var noValueText = component.getProperty("noValueText");
    if (typeof noValueText != 'undefined') {
    var domNode = document.getElementById(component.getClientId() + "::content");
    if (domNode.value == "") {
    domNode.value = component.getProperty("noValueText");
    function refresh() {
    location.reload();
    Can somebody tell me whether this javascript is correct and the reason why af:paneltabbed not working in safari 4 & 5 browser.
    Pls reply asap.

  • Adobe Flash Player does not work with Safari. What can I do?

    Hi,
    I have a MacBook Pro, Retina, 15 inch, late 2013,  2 GHz Intel Core i7, using OS X 10.9.4. I have installed Adobe Flash Player. In my System Preference, in the advanced settings, it is set to install updates also tells me that I have the NPAPI Plug-in (version 14.0.0.145) installed but not the PPAPI Plug-in. Is this the reason why it does not work with Safari (keeps telling me to download the app, which I did but still does not work)? Is there any way I could fix the problem? Please, help.
    Thanks.

    If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
    If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
    You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
    From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
    and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
    and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
    If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
    From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
    Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
    You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
    Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
    If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
    if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Keyboard: some keys not working

    Some keys not working.  Need help/suggestions.  Not great with computers so PLEASE give details/steps re: how to do what you suggest - thanks!
    Details: intel based iMac running snow leopard 10.6.8.  Apple wireless/bluetooth keyboard (came with the iMac).
    Some keys suddenly stopped working:  space, tab, capLock, option key to the right of space bar (one on the left works), down arrow
    The problem happens in various programs (safari, pages, etc)
    The keyboard is fine on another iMac
    A different keyboard is fine on this/the involved iMac
    (nutshell: keyboard works fine - computer works fine, unless they're together)
    Here's what's been tried/checked:
    -checked the settings for universal access ("mouse keys" are off) and checked for any bluetooth keyboard shortcuts.
    -in system preferences "speech" is not set for "speak selected text when the key is pressed" - this is not checked/selected
    -tried creating a new user but had the same issue so it's computer-wide rather than just a user account
    -removed the keyboard and reconnected (using the +/- signs and "disconnect" and putting in a new code of numbers to pair keyboard)
    -language/text is set for english
    -did the keyboard viewer and the keys in question did NOT highlight when pressed (but don't forget the entire keyboard is fine on a different computer so thekeys aren't the issue)
    -"slow keys" is turned off re: keyboard in system preferences.
    Any help is welcomed.  It's frustrating knowing the keyboard works, just not with this computer.  Please help.  Many thanks!

    yes - not sure how this works...if you can see my original post there are a lot of details in there.  If you can't...
    nutshell: the keyboard works on a different iMac
                 a different keyboard works on this/the involved iMac
                 I tried to create a different user and the keyboard still does not work so it is computer-wide
                 I also removed the keyboard from the computer (using the +/- symbols and disconnecting and then repairing it.  The problem remained
    Thanks for any help.  It's crazy that the keyboard is fine and the computer is fine but together, there's the problem.
    Thank you!!!

  • Return & shift keys not working

    My keyboard is unresponsive.  problms started w/ "L" and "9" and "Enter/Return" keys.  Did a s/w update and reboot but still no success.  Now only "Shift" and "Enter/Return" keys are unresponsive.

    I tried the troubleshooting steps listed in the article linked above but ran into the following problems:
    a) the View menu doesn't have a "Speech" item listed (I'm running 10.9.2)
    b) My MacBook Air doesn't have a disk drive; impossible to start up from an Install disk as recommended in step 10.
    None of the other steps helped (sticky keys off, slow keys off, mouse keys off, etc)
    Looking at the forums, looks like several other people have the issue of just the right-side shift and return keys not working, like me. Could we please have some advice that is specific to that particular issue?
    In the meantime I'm using only the left-side shift and have downloaded and installed KeyRemap4MacBook and remapped my backslash key so it issues the "return" command. A clunky work around but it seems to do the trick, at least.
