Enterprise Manager on Physical Standby
Hi,
I have switched over from my production database to the physical standby database as the production failed. When I try to use the Enterprise Manager on the new production database (previous standby) I get problems.
Basically when I try to click on any of the links such as 'performance' etc EM attempts to log me into the old production database. I get the login screen to login to the previous production database. Seems that this information (connection string / ip address to the database) is somehow in the config. Is there anyway to reset EM to say - yes this physical standby in now in charge - please use this connection! or do I have to uninstall and re-install EM??
Anyone ever try this.
thx.
S.
Solved!
The problem is that the standby server has a different IP address from that of the production. EM writes the IP address to some config tables so when the IP address changes you cannot use EM again until you change these values. Not documented anywhere.
Once I changed these values everything was working as normal.

Creating physical standby databases with DG Broker & OEM
Hi guys,
I manage 8i, 9i & 10g databases through OEM 10.2.0.2.
Today, I would like to create physical standby db for the most important applications. Because I'm a lazy guy, I'd like to do it the easiest way, with GUI and wizzards provided by OEM.
1. Do you know any tutorial on the Internet that would help to do it easily ? My only source up to now is the official DB broker documentation (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14230/toc.htm), which is 300 pages long like every Oracle doc. I'd appreciate any tutorial that could lead me straight to the essential. I've heard that is not so tricky to create a physical standby db
2. Is the procedure really different to create (and then manage) a physical standby database on Oracle 8i, 9i and 10g ? Is it possible to do it through DB Broker and OEM for every version ?
thank you for your help
AntoineAntionio,
Oracle Documentation is the best source of configuring any Oracle component.
But, If you do not want to read the entire doc, and want to configure Dataguard Broker (without OEM), then here is the Link.

Hello everybody i use Oracle Database EE 11.2.0.4 with DG.
In those cases i need to get Enterprise Manager Database Control running against DB with no RAC and no DG i perform the following steps:
I Logon SQLPLUS as user SYS or SYSTEM, and drop the sysman account and management objects:
DECLARE
CURSOR c1 IS
SELECT owner, synonym_name name
FROM dba_synonyms
WHERE table_owner = 'SYSMAN';
BEGIN
FOR r1 IN c1 LOOP
IF r1.owner = 'PUBLIC' THEN
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM '||r1.name;
ELSE
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP SYNONYM '||r1.owner||'.'||r1.name;
END IF;
END LOOP;
END;
DROP USER mgmt_view CASCADE;
DROP ROLE mgmt_user;
DROP USER sysman CASCADE;
After that i run
emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate
But what should i do in cases i have 2 servers working (primary and standby) under DG rules?Hi ,
It is not possible to monitor/administer a Logical or Physical Standby database, i.e Data Guard, using Enterprise Manager Database Control. This is primarily due to the fact that Database Control is designed to monitor 1 database and a Data Guard environment, by definition, includes more than 1 database.
If you attempt to run emca against a standby Database, you will get an error like (i.e. ORA-01219: database not open).
Database Control, can, of course, be used to monitor the current Primary database (with no ability to administer or monitor Data Guard related functionality). In such a case, when failover occurs Database Control must be reconfigured to run on the new Primary database using the commands detailed in Note 278100.1 How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database, section C. Recreate/ReConfig DB Control, Option 2. Recreate the DB Control Configuration Files and Repository.
Enterprise Manager Grid Control or Cloud Control provides the functionality for viewing, monitoring, and administering primary and standby databases in a Data Guard configuration.
Reference: Is it Possible to Configure Database Control for a Logical or Physical Standby Database? (Doc ID 315116.1)
You can use EM 12c cloud control to monitor and manager Standby DB effectively

Oracle Configuration Manager 10.2.7 on physical standby database
Hi
Did anybody succeed to install and get running OCM on physical standby-database? When starting collection configuration script, i get
an known error ORA-01219.
Any help any tipps?
FeliceHi Tom
Thank you for the information. I think it is the right place to install OCM - not standalone installation - software installed with Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. The problem is only that installCCRSQL.sh can't handle Mounted Database (Standby-Database).
We got similar problems with Grid Control Management Agents, when doing health checks.
Mayby there is as workaround/patch (Opatch).

Problems while creating a physical Standby
Hi,
I am trying to setup a physical standby database with oracle 10g.
I configured a specific log archive destination:
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3 = 'SERVICE=ORAMPSEC REOPEN=60 MAX_FAILURE=3 LGWR SYNC
VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=ORAMPSEC'
The service is reachable via network.
To establish the standby database I copied all datafiles from the primary database using scp. I also created a standby controlfile and a modified pfile. In addition I added a standby redo logfile which has the same size as the online redo log files on the primary database.
After starting the standby database in open read only mode I receive the following error message:
Database mounted.
ORA-16004: backup database requires recovery
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/system01.dbf'
I tried to recover using "recover standby database" I receive the following message:
ORA-00279: change 884348 generated at 07/18/2006 17:08:07 needed for thread 1
ORA-00289: suggestion : /oradata/ORAMPPRD/archive/1_30_595767954.dbf
ORA-00280: change 884348 for thread 1 is in sequence #30
Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
Although I transmitted all archived log files from the primary database the archived log file mentioned above is not available. After hitting RETURN I get this message:
ORA-00308: cannot open archived log
'/oradata/ORAMPPRD/archive/1_30_595767954.dbf'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status

ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/system01.dbf'
Here is a listing of all archived logfiles from the primary database:

Nothing known about the *30*dbf file.
Although there still seems to be something wrong, the archived log file transmission seems to work since there is no error reported on the log archive destination:
SQL> select status, error from v$archive_dest where dest_id = 3;
STATUS ERROR
VALID
And after I manually force a log switch I see that archived redo logs were applied on the standby database:
select sequence#, applied from v$archived_log order by sequence#;
SEQUENCE# APPLIED
27 YES
28 NO
28 YES
29 NO
29 YES
Unfortunately because of the recovering problem I cannot open the database to see if the changes were applied. So my first question is, how can I get the standby database completely recovered ??
In addition to this I was expecting that the changes to the standby database were made immediately since I choosed LGWR sync but I have to manually force the logfile switch. As I already mentioned a standby redo log file is available as well.
Thanks for your help,
Philipp.Hi,
since it does not seem to work with just copying the datafiles I switched to RMAN. I created a full database backup from Enterprise Manager. Similiar to http://dizwell.com/main/content/view/81/122/1/1/ I tried to duplicate the database to the standby instance (running on a different server). But unfortunately I receive error messages that the files, previously created, cannot be found:
channel d1: starting datafile backupset restore channel d1: specifying datafile(s) to restore from backup set restoring datafile 00001 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/1.dbf restoring datafile 00002 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/2.dbf restoring datafile 00003 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/3.dbf restoring datafile 00004 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/4.dbf channel d1: reading from backup piece /opt/oracle/ora10/product/10.2.0.1.0/dbs/0bhoiq60_1_1

ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory Additional information: 3 failover to previous backup
But when I crosscheck my backup inside RMAN it clearly shows the backup files:
RMAN> crosscheck backup;
backup piece
handle=/opt/oracle/ora10/product/10.2.0.1.0/dbs/0bhoiq60_1_1 recid=7
stamp=596207811
crosschecked backup piece: found to be 'AVAILABLE'
I already checked the file permissions, everybody on the system is able to access this file.
Do you know what is going wrong here ??
Cheers,

SQL exception during creation of a physical standby database with EM

I try to create a physical standby database with the enterprise manager and each time the process is aborted with a SQL exception during the preparation of the job by the EM. I have added a part of the OMs log containing the error at the end of the excerpt.

Local logical standby and remote physical standby
Dear All,
My database version is 10.2.0.1.0(production) and Operating System Linux x86-64 OS Version Red Hat Enterprise 4
Below is my configuration details:
Rprimary Database:Two Nodes RAC
StandBy Database LOCAL:Standalone database
Standby Database Remote:Two Node RAC
So,my question is, i want my local physical DR to convert into logical standby and
Remote DR will operate as physical standby as it IS.
sql>EXECUTE DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD
After executing the above statement in my production primary database will there be any performance HIT.
And another important is that my above statement shouldn't affect my remote physical DR database.
Just the local DR should get converted into logical standby database
Thanks and Regards

Monoj DasIn any Data Guard environment, you can have either physical or logical or even mixed[physical + logical]
There will be no performance issue if you run the package for logical standby DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD , This package provides you to manage even logical standby database. -
Starting Physically Standby Database in Mount Mode
Hi All
I have configured Data Guard using Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4.0 (64 bits) on Windows 2008 Server (64 bits) Release 2 Enterprise.
Data guard configuration was OK as the message from "Enable Configuration DG1" was "SUCCESS" for both
Primary and Standby Database. I have also set both Databases and TNS to start Automatically whenever Windows Starts.
The Problem is as long as the Standby Server is running, there is No issue.
But when we Restarts the Backup Server, Physically Standby Database is Started and TNS is also Started,
but Archives are not received until I physically do the following steps so that it can received the Archives.
SQL> startup nomount;
SQL> alter database mount standby database;
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
Is there a way to start Physically Standby Database in Mount mode when windows started.

Physical standby database Version 11g Creation over grid control 10g
We are useing oracale 11g enterprise edition and want to create a physical standby database on another machine:
On primary host we've installed "standard database" and turned on archive log mode over em.
On the standby host we've installed only oracle without a database and without a listener.
On a third machine we've installed grid control and registered the primary and standby hosts. Using EM with Data Grid I'm attempting to create a Physical Standby on standby host. Everything is working except for the last part as noted here:

What mean's in this case:
"ORA-01152 file string was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
Cause: An incomplete recovery session was started, but an insufficient number of redo logs were applied to make the database consistent. This file is still in the future of the last redo log applied. The most likely cause of this message is forgetting to restore the file from backup before doing incomplete recovery.
Action: Apply additional redo log files until the database is consistent or restore the datafiles from an older backup and repeat recovery."Thanks for your immediate reply,
but there's a problem: We don't create the standby database manually. The creation is done by data guard over grid control. And the "automatic" creation stopps at this point.
Unfortunatly we don't know, wich steps of a manuall standby database creation are done and wich steps are not done at this point.
The oracle documentation (for release 11g) to create a manuall standby database is "B28294-02". But there's no step 5 "alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session". Do you mean step 4 of chapter 3.2.6?
Is there no way, to create a standby database automatically over grid control? Or do we have to do something else before creating the physical standby database? Perhaps we have to create a full backup after switching to archive log mode? -
OEM for physical standby database
Hello All,
I am using Oracle 11.2.0.3. My enterprise manager is db console 11.2
I have Oracle Enterprise manager dbcnsole for my RAC primary database and I have created through sqlplus command line a physical standby database.
My questions
Can I use the RAC primary dbconsole to monitor my physical standby database? if yes what the steps?
Is it mandatory to use grid control in that case? if yes, what steps are needed to implement grid control ?
Regards,Hi,
It is not possible to monitor/administer a Logical or Physical Standby database, i.e Data Guard, using Enterprise Manager Database Control.
Using EM cloud control 12c is best available option to monitor your standby databases

i tested with my local database ,that below:
1.backup with controlfile from standby (rman>backup current controlfile)
2.manual deleted my test db controlfile,tried to restore from backup taken from standby(rman>restore controlfile from '*****************';)
3.rman>restore database
3.but it shows error (datafile already exists) ,controlfile tried to create datafiles on standby location.
my conclusion:above my cmds used to create datafiles on standby becoz i restored with standby controlfile.
my question:what is wrong with my steps? and how to restore my (prod) controlfile from standby.and bring backup my prod db.

EM: Creation process for a physical standby DB failed with SQL Exception
Version: EM Oracle 10.2.5 (agents running, repository running, primary db running, all targets visible and reachable with EM)
I try to create a physical standby database with the enterprise manager and each time the process is aborted with a SQL exception during the preparation of the job by the EM. I have added a part of the OMs log containing the error at the end of the excerpt.

I have set the agent perl script tracing to DEBUG, but can't find any reason, why the job preparation failed.
Has anyone an idea why the job cannot be prepared? Thanks in advance for investigation :-)gromit wrote:
Is there a difference if:
I install EM Version 10.2.0.1/10.2.0.2 -> upgrade it to 10.2.0.3 -> upgrade it to 10.2.0.5
OR
I install EM Version 10.2.0.1/10.2.0.2 and directly upgrade it to 10.2.0.5 ???Hi,
Both are same. Result will be same. Finally you are reaching 10.2.0.5 version..
But I would suggest to choose 2nd option.. i.e. install EM Version 10.2.0.1/10.2.0.2 and directly upgrade it to 10.2.0.5.
Because it will save your time..
