12c Physical Standby Creation

EM 12c on Windows 2008
Primary server - OE Linux 5.8 64bit
Standby server - OE Linux 5.8 64 bit
Database - 11.2.0.3
Basically I am trying to setup a physical standby but when i select the standby server I get the following error
The Grid Control database plug-in must be deployed on the Agent monitoring the selected host.
The agent is correctly installed on the standby server as a managed host so not sure what the issue is. Is there something else I need to install?

  • Physical standby creation

    Hi All,
    Environment - Production and Disaster Recovery Centre have a active passive cluster on solaris 10. Oracle version - Oracle 11gR2.
    Want to Set up Physical Standby and configure a DG Broker to manually manage the DG.
    I have gone through the steps as per MOS 1075908.1. Is it similar OR what additional steps needed.
    Please advise

    I have gone through the steps as per MOS 1075908.1. Is it similar OR what additional steps needed.I assume you mean "automatically", not "manually"? The extra steps are to enable the Broker! Start the DMON processes, create your configuration, add your databases, enable the configuration, sit back and relax.
    Have a go, it is pretty straightforward.

  • Creating physical standby through Cloud Control 12C fails

    Hi,
    I have a SR with MOS on physical standby setup through Cloud Control 12C. My setup is two Exadata Quarter RAC X2-2 installations and i'm setting up primary standby/between those two installations. Lets call them exa1db01(primary) and exa2db01(standby).
    I'm using Cloud version 12.1.0.2 and agents on the latest version and patch. We just upgraded before Christmas. When i try to create a physical standby it fails on the transfer stage with below error:
    "Uncaught exception in command fileTransfer: unable to instantive value javax.xml.bind.JAXBE1ement@46dd1e39 for attribute actualException"
    At the moment its sent to developement so i have to wait for a fix. The reason for posting here is that i cant believe that this is not working on Cloud Control 12.1.0.2. This is basic functionality and i'm amazed that this is a bug. Our Exadata installation is running on 11.2.0.3 BP10 so it should be fairly fresh.
    I truly believe the problems needs to be somewhere in our installation or the connectivity between our Exadata environments. Do any of you have any experience with DG through Cloud on that participial version ?
    Cheers

    Hello again;
    Check the solution in this: ( and note the multiple versions of oracle it covers )

  • Physical Standby Database Creation with RMAN

    Hi,
    I'm in 10g on Linux. I want to create a standby database on another Linux server. I did not find a clear procedure to create it in Oracle® Database Backup and Recovery Advanced User's Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) Part Number B14191-02
    and niether in Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration 10g Release 2 (10.2) B14239-04
    In the last one chapter 3 sends you to F appendix and F appendix says do nothing before having than all in chapter 3 :
    In F.1.1 page F-2 it is said :
    See Chapter 3 for a complete discussion of physical standby database preparation,including initialization parameter settings. You must perform all necessary preparation tasks described in these chapters before RMAN can successfully create the standby database files and mount the standby database.
    Any way I'm looking for a procedure or clear article to create it.
    Many thanks before.

  • Physical standby database Version 11g Creation over grid control 10g

    We are useing oracale 11g enterprise edition and want to create a physical standby database on another machine:
    On primary host we've installed "standard database" and turned on archive log mode over em.
    On the standby host we've installed only oracle without a database and without a listener.
    On a third machine we've installed grid control and registered the primary and standby hosts. Using EM with Data Grid I'm attempting to create a Physical Standby on standby host. Everything is working except for the last part as noted here:

    What is to do?
    What mean's in this case:
    "ORA-01152 file string was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
    Cause: An incomplete recovery session was started, but an insufficient number of redo logs were applied to make the database consistent. This file is still in the future of the last redo log applied. The most likely cause of this message is forgetting to restore the file from backup before doing incomplete recovery.
    Action: Apply additional redo log files until the database is consistent or restore the datafiles from an older backup and repeat recovery."

    Thanks for your immediate reply,
    but there's a problem: We don't create the standby database manually. The creation is done by data guard over grid control. And the "automatic" creation stopps at this point.
    Unfortunatly we don't know, wich steps of a manuall standby database creation are done and wich steps are not done at this point.
    The oracle documentation (for release 11g) to create a manuall standby database is "B28294-02". But there's no step 5 "alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session". Do you mean step 4 of chapter 3.2.6?
    Is there no way, to create a standby database automatically over grid control? Or do we have to do something else before creating the physical standby database? Perhaps we have to create a full backup after switching to archive log mode?

  • RAC to RAC physical standby DB creation

    Oracle version : 11.2.0.2
    Platform : Solaris
    I have created Physical Standby DBs of standalone DBs using RMAN's DUPLICATE command. Now , I need to create a Physical Standby
    for a 2-node RAC primary DB. The standby will also be in a 2-node RAC.
    In the standby site, Grid is succesfully installed , ASM instances are up and Diskgroup for the standby DB is ready. What are the extra changes that I need to make for RAC to RAC standby DB creation.
    Currently, this is what I am planning to do
    After
    1. Establishing connectivity from standby to primary
    and
    2. Moving backup to standby
    and
    3. Starting the standby instance (not MOUNTing it)
    From Node1 of standby server, I will run
    primdb -- The tns entry to connect to Primary DB
    $RMAN target sys/mypass@primdb auxiliary /

    Whatever procedure you are looking, All provided by Mseberg
    Addition to that,
    As you are in 11g, You can perform duplicate from active database without backup. here you no need to copy those backups to standby server.

  • Creation of logical standby by shipping the  redologs from physical standby

    Hi all,
    I have to create a logical standby database using redo shipping from my PHYSICAL STANDBY while it is in mounted state .Is it really possible to do it??
    Please send me any docs regarding this to my mail id ([email protected])
    Thanx in advance

    It is possible to do what you ask by using cascaded destinations. See the Data Guard Manual (online at OTN) http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/cascade_appx.htm#i636046
    for the information. This relies on the standby creating and re-transmitting redo log data.
    Hope this helps

  • Standby Redolog Creation for Physical standby

    I want to migrate my primary database from one server X to standby database which i want to create on other server Y. once Primary and standby will get SYNC , i will do Fail over to make standby as primary and divert current application on standby considering as full functional Primary.
    Is it mandatory to create SRL ( Standby redo log)? or I can create physical standby without SRL? If Yes, on which side (primary or standby) i need to create SRL?
    Appreciate your help..

    Hello,
    Now, My standby database has configured. Since i had restore and recover standby database from standby controlfile instead of RMAN Duplicate. I had done following step:
    ON standby side:
    $rman target /
    RMAN> restore standby controlfile from '/app/oracle/standbyctl.ctl'
    RMAN> sql 'alter database mount standby database';
    RMAN> restore database;
    RMAN> list backup of archive log all;
    RMAN> RMAN> recover database until sequence 1670;
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
    •     On Primary:
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=ENABLE;
    •     On Standby:
    SQL> select sequence#,applied from v$archived_log order by sequence#;
    I am at this stage now. My primary and standby database in synchronization. As per my first thread above, we will have planned outage to move application to standby database and make it full functional primary database. once application will move on new server( standby database). we will not use current primary database anymore.
    what are the procedure i need to do on primary side and standby side when migrate application on new server.? rightnow my standby database in MOUNT mode and archive log is shipping from primary to standby. we have no dataguard broker configuration. i need to do it manually using SQL command.

  • Problem creating physical Standby database with RMAN

    Hi All
    I am trying to learn oracle dataguard and as part of the process learning creating standby database.
    Platform : Sun-Fire-V250 Sparc, Solaris 10
    Database Version - Oracle 11R2
    I am creating standby database on same server, so directory structure is different.
    Following the instructions on Oracle site I managed to create a functional physical standby database. But I am not able to create standby database using RMAN. These are the steps that I followed-
    1.Set up all necessary parameters on primary database as done while creating physical standby database manually, eg setting force logging, creating standby logs etc.
    2.Edited parameter file on primary database as done while creating manual pysical standby database creation. Some of the changes done are-
    On Primary Database:
    *.FAL_CLIENT='orcl11020' #Primary database unique name
    *.FAL_SERVER='stdby_11' #Standby database unique name
    db_file_name_convert='/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020'
    log_file_name_convert='/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020','/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11/redo_mem','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020/redo_mem'

    *.log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=orcl11020 LGWR ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)
    db_unique_name=orcl11020'
    3. Add relevant information in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files and then restart listener.
    3. Created password file with same credential as primary database.
    4.Up-to-date RMAN backup of primary database available.
    5.Create standby controlfile with rman
    While primary database s open (I tried with primary database in mount mode as well)-
    $>rman catalog rman/paswd@rman target /
    RMAN> BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE FOR STANDBY;
    6. Open a new terminal and startup standby database in nomount mode using parameter file created -
    $>ORACLE_SID=stdby_11
    $>export ORACLE_SID
    $>sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL>STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile='<location/initfilename.ora'
    SQL>quit
    $> rman AUXILIARY / target sys/passwd@orcl11020 catalog rman/passwd@rman
    RMAN>DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY DORECOVER;
    RMAN finishes without error but archive logs are not being tranported. Looking at the log, following caught my eye-
    Error 1017 received logging on to the standby
    Check that the primary and standby are using a password file
    and remote_login_passwordfile is set to SHARED or EXCLUSIVE,
    and that the SYS password is same in the password files.
    returning error ORA-16191
    FAL[client, ARC2]: Error 16191 connecting to orcl11020 for fetching gap sequence
    Errors in file /<>dir>/diag/rdbms/stdby_11/stdby_11/trace/stdby_11_arc2_24321.trc:
    ORA-16191: Primary log shipping client not logged on standby
    Errors in file /<dir>/diag/rdbms/stdby_11/stdby_11/trace/stdby_11_arc2_24321.trc:
    ORA-16191: Primary log shipping client not logged on standby
    So on both primary and standby I confirmed
    SQL> show parameter remote_login_passwordfile
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    remote_login_passwordfile string EXCLUSIVE
    To make double sure that password files are same, I shutdown both databases, delete password files and recreated with same credentials.
    Password files are called - orapworcl11020 and orapwstdby_11
    Can someone guide me where thisngs are going wrong here please.

    Not sure if I understood it clearly.
    SELECT * FROM V$ARCHIVE_GAP;
    returns no rows so there is no gap.
    But could you please explain me the result of the previous query. To catch up again, on standby when I check
    SELECT SEQUENCE#,APPLIED FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
    SEQUENCE# APPLIED
    75 NO
    74 NO
    76 NO
    77 NO
    I understand that though archive files have been copied across but they are not applied yet.
    On primary when I give your query -
    SELECT name as STANDBY,SEQUENCE#,applied, completion_time
    2 FROM v$archived_log
    3 where dest_id=2
    4 and sequence# BETWEEN 74 and 80;
    I get -
    STANDBY SEQUENCE# APPLIED COMPLETIO
    stdby_11 74 YES 28-JUN-11
    stdby_11 75 YES 28-JUN-11
    stdby_11 76 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 77 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 78 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 79 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 80 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 75 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 74 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 76 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 77 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 78 NO 07-JUL-11
    I have intentionally given
    sequence# BETWEEN 74 and 80
    because I know in the current incarnaion of the database, max sequence is 78.
    So my understanding is, the rows between 28-29 June are from previous incarnation, correct me if I am wrong
    Archive files of the current incarnation, since I successfully created standby database are shipped but yet to be applied - am I right?
    Then my final question is, when will these archives be applied to standby database?
    I am sorry to ask too many questions but I am just trying to understand how it all works.
    Thanks for your help again

  • Creating physical standby database from another physical standby database

    hi,
    We have one production database and one physical standby of the production. Now we have situation where we need to create one database from either production or from standby. As production is loaded we can not do it using active database option. Now we have the only option to copy the database from standby.
    As of now we open the standby and copy it using rman duplicate database and again we put it back to standby mode.
    Is it possible to create standby database from standby database only?
    Oracle version : 11.1.0.7.0
    I have seen procedure allowing to do the same in version 11.2.0.3. I have tried searching for the difference but didn't find when this feature was introduced.
    Thanks,
    Ketul Patel

    Hello;
    Active duplicate should work when connected to Standby as source Database. However there's a bug 11715084 which is not fixed until version 11.2.0.4.
    If patch 11715084 is available for your version it may work, but all the 11.1.0 are gone so I have no way to test.

  • Logical Standby Creation Problems "Create STatus Unknown"

    We are using Grid Control 10.2.0.3 on Oracle 10.2..0.3 databases, Windows 2003 sp2 machines.
    We have a primary and fsfo physical standby working properly. We went to create a logical standby on a separate server and had problems. it turned out that the listener on the server was not discovered on the target. we fixed that problem and finished the creation of the logical standby and it seems to be functioning properly now.
    However, the status on the data guard page for the logical standby shows Create Status Unknown and we are unable to proceed on to create an additional standby database for other purposes. We have tried removing the logical standby target and re-discovering it but status still shows Create Status Unknown.
    Is there any way to clear this status without having to drop the logical standby and completely recreate it.

    The status on the agent shows it uploading successfully.
    We resolved the issue by removing the logical standby from the configuration and selecting to retain the log apply. We then re-added the standby selecting to manage an existing standby database and the status went to normal.
