Enterprise Structure for a diversified Business

Hi all,
1. There is a client who is into diversified businessess.
They are into Manufacturing,Hotel, Industrial services, IT etc
In each of the above mentioned businesses there are 3 legal entities respectively. Like Manufacturing business has 3 legal entities and like wise the others also.
But all these businesses comes into a single group.
From the Organisational elements point of view, how should we structure the enterprise structure keeping the Consolidation in picture.
The client wants the Balance sheet at respective industry(Manuf,  Hotel, IT, Industrial services) and also at the group level.
Please share your experiences in designing a fruitful org sturcutre.
2. One legal entity has two branches one in India and the other is in Australia. How to treat these two branches as. As far as i am concerned as two different countries with different legal issues, there should be two company codes. Please correct me if I am wrong. Is there a wayout to create only one company code and treat these two branches as Profit centers ettc.
Please throw some light on to these.
Thanks & Regards,
Goodluck

Hello Ajay,
Thanks for your reply.
1. Its perfect that we have to create Company codes for all the legal entities, but if Clients want to consolidate the Business at Manufacturing, Trading etc level and also at complete Group level is it possible.
What I thought of is, to create these verticals as Business area, and map the respective company codes into the respective BA so that consolidation will happen at BA level and also if we consolidate all the BA we can see financial statements at Group level. Advise.
2. I didnt work on this scenario previously, but tell if we create Profit center for the Plant at abroad(if its plant or sales office), the currency for this will be different from Controling area and company code currency. Will this have any issue.
Let me know how to deal with it.
Thanks & Regards,

So my question how to design logistic enterprise structure for construction business" and how to integrate these with PS

    Dear
    1) Each project you can consider as a plant ( where u can valuate the stock at plant level),
    2) and difeerent storage locations under plants depends on your material types like ROH,HALB,ERSA,FERT...ect
3)purchase organisations like if have a contracts create one referance pur.org and if require create one more pur.org at local purchases
4)PS consultant has to create each project as WBS element ,under WBS element networks, under networs activities
    5) PS-MM integration
When ever Project people requires material as per their planning, they required to accocate the material to particulat activity say if they want cement they need to allocate cement to particulat activity ,
system intern will raise PR at activity level and reservation at newwork level ( item categoty should be L in PS)
base on the PR , purchasing people can create RFQ or PO ,GR,IR Like MM standard Procedure (PR account assignment will be Q orP)
based on the resevation GI will be done (m.type 281 Q)

    hi,
please explain me SAP Enterprise  Structure for Plant maintenance (PM) module.

    Hi,
As SAP PM enterprise structure comprises of Company, Maintenance Planning plant & Maintenance Plant. Company will be defined in Financial Accounting. Production plant will be the maintenance plant. Seperate plant would be created as Maintenance Planning Plant. All the plants (Maintenance Planning plant & Maintenance Plant) should be assigned to the company. All the maintenance plants should be assigned to Maintenance Planning Plant. For all the Maintenance Plants, technical objects would be created.
Company --> Maintenance Planning Plant --> Maintenance Plant.

  • Enterprise Structure for SAP 6.0 for Holding Subsidiary Consolidation

    Dear All,
Please guide me on how the enterprise structure should be made for the following holding and subsidiary consolidation.
    Company A (Business Group)
    Company B (100% subsidiary of Company A)
    Company C (74% subsidiary of Company A)
    Company D (100% subsidiary of Company B)
    Company E (51% subsidiary of Company B)
    Company F ( 100% subsidiary of Company C)
Company G (50:50 JV Between Company F and some other company outside the group)
Company H (50:50 JV Between Company D and some other company outside the group)
All the above companies are separate legal entities and need separate financial statements for external reporting.Consolidated Financial sattements needs to be drawn not only for the group but also for each holding compony and JV as per the requirements of accounting standards.

You need to define each legal entity as a Compnay code.
You need to create all these as Companies also.
The detailed share holding pattern is important only at the time of consolidation and at the time of consolidating investments.

This business sell some kind of good:
    1) Hydro: mogas, diezel, mazut, kerosense...
    2) Non-Hydro: cement, Iron, gas, lubricant...
I should use two org. structure for each kind, or just unique structure. Because each kind is controlled a different method, so I suggest use two org. structure, but its difficult for reporting.

    Hi,
SAP Project Systems supports comprehensive functions for planning, controlling & organizing all activities carried out during the course of a project. It helps you manage your project structures, dates, costs, and resources throughout the entire project lifecycle. Project Systems is management approach which enables users to compare and analyze various projects effectively with a clear and comprehensive integrated methodology in order to ensure an expeditious management decision making.
Project u2013 activities executed by different departments for a common objective/purpose and in which the total budget satisfies a standard amount for each objective/purpose.
At the highest level of SAP PS, projects are defined and then structured into an organizational form that maps to the specific project.
    1. Work Breakdown Structure : The project is first broken down into work breakdown structures (WBS) which map to specific project deliverables.
    2. Networks : Each WBS can then be broken down into networks of activities.  A network can be thought of as a list of tasks organized into a process flow with specific timing.
    3. Activities:Activities are the key tasks to be completed.  These activities map to internal activities, external activities, cost activities and materials components.
    4. Work Centers:Internal activities are assigned to work centers (resources) to be completed.

  • Error "No extraction structure for event I3" running set up 2LIS_17_I3HDR

    Hi, Experts:
I am trying to activate and run set up datasource for PM 2LIS_17_I3HDR, so that data can be extracted from R/3 into BW 3.5 system.
In R/3 environment, we have 2 clients. client 200 for configurations but has no data, and client 230 has data but can not change configurations.
I have done the following in client 200:
    - Activated datasources for for PM 2LIS_17_I3HDR in RSA5.
    - Made selection in RSA6.
    - Activated extract structures and datasource for application 17 in LBWE and also ran job control. Now I can see the extract structures for application 17 are active in client 200 only, but inactive in client 230. I tried to turn then active in client 230 but got error "Client 230 has status not modifiable".
    - I assume I should run set up tables in client 230 because it is the client with data in tables? But when run set up in OLIIBW, I got the error "
No extraction structure for event I3: Messages active
       Message no. MCEX106
       Diagnosis
You called the setup for the extractor structures of application '17' (Plant Maintenance). However no extractor structure is active for event I3 (messgaes).
       System Response
Data for event I3 is not transferred to the BW interface.
       Procedure
First activate the desired extractor structures for application '17' using the Customizing Cockpit and then start the setup again."
    - I can not manually activate extract structures in client 230 because it is not modifiable. I tried moving transports, the path is not set up. I see extract structures for other applications like 11, 13 are active. So I guess there may be other ways to activate the extract structures in client 230.
    - I also tried to run set up in client 200, which has extract structures for 17 in active status. But got the same error as client 230.
Would anyone please help me with what to do to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Jenny
Edited by: Jenny Chen on Oct 29, 2009 6:38 AM

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
Just update for what we did to solve this. Both clients are for development. Client 200 is only for configuration but no data. Client 230 has data but not modifiable. Usually, when we create a structure, table, program, or active anything in 200. We will see it in 230 right away without transports. But this is not the case for activating extract structure for datasource from Business Content. We end up having Basis guy manually activate the structure for us directly in client 230 with transaction LBWE. That worked.
    Thanks,
    Jenny

  • What is the best data structure for loading an enterprise Power BI site?

Hi folks, I'd sure appreciate some help here!
I'm a kinda old-fashioned gal and a bit of a traditionalist, building enterprise data warehouses out of Analysis Service hypercubes with a whole raft of MDX for analytics.  Those puppies would sit up and beg when you asked them to deliver up goodies
    to SSRS or PowerView.
But Power BI is a whole new game for me.
Should I be exposing each dimension and fact table in the relational data warehouse as a single Odata feed?
Should I be running Data Management Gateway and exposing each table in my RDW individually?
Should I be flattening my stars and snowflakes and creating a very wide First Normal Form dataset with everything relating to each fact?
I guess my real question, folks, is what's the optimum way of exposing data to the Power BI cloud?
And my subsidiary question is this:  am I right in saying that all the data management, validation, cleansing, and regular ETTL processes are still required
before the data is suitable to expose to Power BI?
Or, to put it another way, is it not the case that you need to have a clean and properly structured data warehouse
before the data is ready to be massaged and presented by Power BI?
I'd sure value your thoughts and opinions,
    Cheers, Donna
    Donna Kelly

    Dear All,
    My original question was:
what's the optimum way of exposing data to the Power BI cloud?
Having spent the last month faffing about with Power BI – and reading about many people’s experiences using it – I think I can offer a few preliminary conclusions.
Before I do that, though, let me summarise a few points:
Melissa said “My initial thoughts:  I would expose each dim & fact as a separate OData feed” and went on to say “one of the hardest things . . . is
the data modeling piece . . . I think we should try to expose the data in a way that'll help usability . . . which wouldn't be a wide, flat table ”.
Greg said “data modeling is not a good thing to expose end users to . . . we've had better luck with is building out the data model, and teaching the users
    how to combine pre-built elements”
    I had commented “. . . end users and data modelling don't mix . . . self-service so
far has been mostly a bust”.
Here at Redwing, we give out a short White Paper on Business Intelligence Reporting.  It goes to clients and anyone else who wants one.  The heart
of the Paper is the Reporting Pyramid, which states:  Business intelligence is all about the creation and delivery of actionable intelligence to the right audience at the right time
For most of the audience, that means Corporate BI: pre-built reports delivered on a schedule.
For most of the remaining audience, that means parameterised, drillable, and sliceable reporting available via the web, running the gamut from the dashboard to the details, available on
    demand.
For the relatively few business analysts, that means the ability for business users to create their own semi-customised visual reports when required, to serve
    their audiences.
For the very few high-power users, that means the ability to interrogate the data warehouse directly, extract the required data, and construct data mining models, spreadsheets and other
    intricate analyses as needed.
On the subject of self-service, the Redwing view says:  Although many vendors want tot sell self-service reporting tools to the enterprise, the facts of the matter are these:
    v
80%+ of all enterprise reporting requirement is satisfied by corporate BI . . . if it’s done right.
v Very few staff members have the time, skills, or inclination to learn and employ self-service business intelligence in the course of their activities.
I cannot just expose raw data and tell everyone to get on with it.  That way lies madness!
I think that clean and well-structured data is a prerequisite for delivering business intelligence.
Assuming that data is properly integrated, historically accurate and non-volatile as well, then I've just described
a data warehouse, which is the physical expression of the dimensional model.
Therefore, exposing the presentation layer of the data warehouse is – in my opinion – the appropriate interface for self-service business intelligence.
Of course, we can choose to expose perspectives as well, which is functionally identical to building and exposing subject data marts.
That way, all calculations, KPIs, definitions, and even field names, and all consistent because they all come from the single source of the truth, and not from spreadmart hell.
So my conclusion is that exposing the presentation layer of the properly modelled data warehouse is – in general - the way to expose data for self-service.
That’s fine for the general case, but what about Power BI?  Well, it’s important to distinguish between new capabilities in Excel, and the ones in Office 365.
I think that to all intents and purposes, we’re talking about exposing data through the Data Management Gateway and reading it via Power Query.
The question boils down to what data structures should go down that pipe.
    According to
Create a Data Source and Enable OData Feed in Power BI Admin Center, the possibilities are tables and views.  I guess I could have repeating data in there, so it could be a flattened structure of the kind Melissa doesn’t like (and neither do I).
I could expose all the dims and all the facts . . . but that would mean essentially re-building the DW in the PowerPivot DM, and that would be just plain stoopid.  I mean, not a toy system, but a real one with scores of facts and maybe hundreds of dimensions?
Fact is, I cannot for the life of me see what advantages DMG/PQ
has over just telling corporate users to go directly to the Cube Perspective they want, that has already all the right calcs, KPIs, security, analytics, field names . . . and most importantly, is already modelled correctly!
If I’m a real Power User, then I can use PQ on my desktop to pull mashup data from the world, along with all my on-prem data through my exposed Cube presentation layer, and PowerPivot the
heck out of that to produce all the reporting I’d ever want.  It'd be a zillion times faster reading the data directly from the Cube instead of via the DMG, as well (I think Power BI performance sucks, actually).
Of course, your enterprise might not
have a DW, just a heterogeneous mass of dirty unstructured data.  If that’s the case,
choosing Power BI data structures is the least of your problems!  :-)
    Cheers, Donna

  • Business Area in Enterprise Structure

Can someone please explain the purpose of Business Area/Business Unit in the Enterprise Structure? I'm wondering, functionally, how it is different from personnel area and personnel subarea, as we use the PA and PSA to distinguish  between departments and business units, respectively. Are there integration differences, or is there not a significant difference?
Thanks for any replies and help.
    -Nick

    Hey Nick,
If you bring up the help on Business Area within the IMG, you get the following:
    Define Business Area
    Use
In this section you create business areas. A business area is an
organizational unit within accounting that represents a separate area of
operations or responsibilities in a business
    organization.
When defining a business area, you enter a four-character alphanumeric key
and the name of the business area.
In a client, you can set up
several business areas to which the system can assign the postings made in all
    company codes defined in
this client. To ensure consistency in document entry, you should give business
areas the same name in all company codes.
You make all other specifications for your business areas in the Financial
    Accounting Implementation Guide.
So as this and Theo also indicated above, this is relevant for FI.
    Hope this helps!
