Entity to Table Implementation Report

Hi all,
If you remember the info displayed in this repository report includes the entity name, the table name derived from that entity, and a comment. Below it you could include columns details and the super-type/sub-type relationships for that entity with more comments. The second part of the report in the vice-versa: the table name, the entity that has been source for it and a comment.
OK, here is my problem: I would like to include some explanations to be displayed within those "Comments" fields: for example, that an entity hasn't been transformed into a table because of the super-type/sub-type implementation type selected, etc. The problem is that I haven't been able to find where do I have to include those notes so the Comment fields can display them. I've tried all the Comments, Notes, Descriptions, etc fields for the entities, attributes, tables and columns and nothing works: when I run the report those fields are empty.
Does anybody know where do I have to include them?
The Repository Reports version is the 9.0.2.80.4 for Windows 2000.
Thanks,
Ana

hi,
you might also post this question in the designer/repository forum. this forum is covering oracle reports as a product and i am not sure if people here are necessarily the that farmiliar with repos reports and data structures.

• Need custom column widths in Append Text Table to Report

I need to print reports with tables of different column widths specified for each column, as the contained fields vary in width from just 3 characters in one column to 40 characters in another. Also we are trying to match the reports generated by a non-labview routine. In the past I have been able to achieve this by editing the Append Table to Report vi, working my way through the inner hierarchy to replace the DBL numeric COLUMN WIDTH control with a DBL numeric array. The innermost vi, Set Table Column Width, assigns the numeric to a property node in a for loop, so the change is simple: replace the scalor with an array and enable indexing on the for loop. Of course, after each Labview upgrade, I've had to go back in and repeat these edits on the overwritten upgraded vi's. This time there is a problem. The new version of this toolkit is object oriented, and disturbing these vi's wrecks the class methods in a way I don't understand (mostly because I've had no dealings with object oriented programming) and which cannot be undone. I recently tried this and after not being able to fix the problem even with phone support, I had to spend the next two days unistalling and reinstalling Labview! I desperately need a way to achieve this functionality without killing the toolkit, which is used (in its original functionality) by another absolutely critical program. PLEASE HELP!
The hierarchy is as follows:
NI report.lvclass:Append Table to Report (wrap)
NI report.lvclass:Append Table to Report
NI Standard report.lvclass:Append Text Table to Report
NI Standard report.lvclass:tables

There is a highly relevant thread under discussion here:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=features&thread.id=429
You may wish to read it and chime in as it is a discussion of LabVIEW's policy (and possible change in policy for the future) concerning the handling of non-palette VIs between LV versions.

I doubt that it is a simple fix -- our AEs are generally top notch at figuring out solutions for customers -- if it were simple, my bet is they'd have solved it. Asking an AE to work around a bug is different from asking them to rearchitect the toolkit. You are asking them to add a feature that the new version of the toolkit is not
designed to support. The difficulty in doing this is completely independent of the decision to use LabVIEW classes to implement the toolkit. If any piece of software is not designed with a particular use case in mind, what may be a simple tweak under one design may become a very hard problem under another design.
In your case, the solution is very straightforward: Use the older version of the toolkit. Any time you create a custom modification of the VIs that ship with LV or one of its toolkits, you should make your own copy and have your VIs link against the copy. LabVIEW promises to maintain all the public functionality version over version. Usually we succeed at that. What we do not promise is to maintain our private implementation of that functionality. It is impossible for LabVIEW (or any other software library) to maintain all of its private internal operations while still continuing any development. Using a copy of the original VIs shields you from having to recode your changes every version (something you've already mentioned is a chore) and it guarantees that functionality that you relie upon does not disappear.
I hope you are willing to be understanding of this situation and not hold it against the AEs working on this. They try hard to provide excellent customer service, and spend lots of time inventing custom solutions for our users. This happens to be a situation where the correct fix is not to modify the new toolkit version to do something it wasn't designed to do but to modify your development process so that the problem is solved now and into the future.

Hi,
Based on the description, I understand that you want to add subreport in the main report. When previewing the main report, the subreport can be shown in detail. Please see the screenshots on my test:
In Reporting Services, we can create parameters and pass them from main report to subreport in order to control the data dynamically.

• No data found error on Form on a Table with report

Hi Everyone, I'm using Application Express 4.1.0.00.32 on Windows 7. I built a Form on a table with report. Earlier I was using rowid as a passing parameter but then I had to change it to primary key column from report to form.
So in the "Fetch row process" I changed the "Items containing primary key value" and "Primary Key column" to P1004_PERSON_ID and PERSON_ID respectively. Which is my primary key.
My Form is working exactly fine but at on point it throws "no data found error".
I have a required date field in the form. So if the user doesn't fill in the date field and try to save the form, it throws the "Feild required error" and then when user enters date and try to save then it throws the error "No data found.". here is the snapshot... snapshot
How can I fix this error.I'm really stuck.
I checked debubber..it is as follows... in debughger it's still showing rowid. I don't know why. How can I fix that.

• How to Use Temporary table on report builder

Hi community!
Well, i'm trying to build a temporary table based report in Oracle Report Builder. in "After Parameter Form Trigger" I've placed a stored procedure that populate a temporary table and I've based my report on it. The problem is Report shows no data. When i execute this procedure directly on database and i perform a select on my temporary table, it show all inserted data.
I hope somebody can to help me because I tried many ways to build this report with my temporary table and always looks blank.

Temporary tables are session specific.
If particular session is closed then no data will be found on your temporary table in an another session.
My suggestion is, on "After parameter form" trigger you directly populate the GTT without using procedure.
Hope this will help.

• Form on Table with Report works in one environment but not in another.

Here's a short description of the problem:
Created a form on a table with report (using the wizard) in an ApEx application. The form and report work perfect in development environment. Once the application is moved to the Test environment, the insert feature of the form does not work. We have verified that the underlying table the form is based on is there with all the fields, primary key, sequence and trigger.
Any ideas?

Ben,
I assume that apex_public_user has all the approporiate privilegesapex_public_user requires no privileges other than those it is created with during installation and the execute privileges on procedures it may acquire as URL-invokable procedures are developed and registered.
Marc - What are the symptoms of the problem (insert does not work) ? What does the debug output show when you run the page in debug mode? Does the "request" value of the button (create button?) match one of the request values recognized by the DML process?

• Exporting a 2D table from Report to Excel

I have created an automatic populating 2D table in the Report window. I would like to copy the contents of the table into excel format. When I try to copy/paste into excel, I just get a bunch of code. Is there a way to copy the contents of the 2D table from Report and paste them into another program?
Steve

Steve,
When you copy an object in REPORT (such as a 2D table), DIAdem will copy the code required to create the object, not the numbers in the table. This is by design and there is no direct way to copy the actual numbers from a REPORT table.
A possible workaround is the "Transfer to VIEW" function on the REPORT toolbar. That function will take the current REPORT layout and copy it into the VIEW area. In VIEW you can highlight the values in the table and Copy/Paste them into Excel. To copy a complete column, click in the first row of the column and the pres and hold Shift&Control" and then hit the down arrow. That will select a complete channel.
I hope this helps with your question,

• Table in report based on metric data

Hi!
I want to add a simple table to report, showing the data from the metric I have in my plug-in. The metric has near 50 columns.
As far as I understand, I need to write SQL statement that selects from mgmt$metric_current view.
The problem is that the data is presented 'vertically' in this view, meaning that I have one column with metric column name and another with metric column value, so if I want to get a table that represent my metric I need to write 50 inner joins in my SQL statement, which is extremely unefficient.
Is there any other way to select metric current data in an efficient way?
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Alex,
You do have to write a query to join across MGMT$METRIC_CURRENT to get multiple metric columns into a table.
But for a reasonably sized table (column-wise), the performance should be fine. Why would you want to have
a table with 50 columns? You'd have your end user doing quite a bit of horizontal scrolling all of the time; that
wouldn't be very usable. Perhaps the better approach would be to have a number of tables with selected columns
in each that are closely related. It seems that even regardless of this, that 50 columns is a lot in a single metric.
Would it also make sense to break this metric up for usability as well? If so and you had originally put all 50 columns
in a single metric for performance reasons (i.e. perhaps the overhead to connect to the source is big), you could
keep that big metric as is, and have sifferent aggregate metrics that just consist of particular subsets of the
columns. These aggregate metrics aren't "collected" like the base one.

• Ora-20001 when creating a form on table with report (bug?)

Having some trouble creating a "Form on table with report".
1) I pick my table
2) take most of the defaults on the page where you pick the report type (interactive) and the page number (I changed it to 950). next->
3) Do not use tabs. Next->
4) Select all columns for the report. THEN (here's the problem) set an optional where clause of system_role_name like 'ODPSPOPUP%'. Next->
5) choose standard edit link. next->
6) Specify a page of 951 for the form (leave others defaults). next->
7) Set the form primary key (defined in table). next->
8) use existing trigger. next->
9) choose all columns for the form. next->
10) Leave actions to insert, update, delete. next->
11) Get to the summary page and click Finish
Then I get an error page saying:
ORA-20001: Unable to create query and update page. ORA-20001: Unable to create query and update page. ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
If I go back to step 4 and erase my where clause the wizard completes successfully.
Also if I change the report type in step 2 from the default of "Interactive" to "Classic" the wizard completes successfully. However upon running the report I get a query parse error. Looks like the where clause in the report sql is: system_role_name like ''ODPSPOPUP%'' (two single quotes on each side).
It looks as if you cannot specify a where clause with a quoted string. The wizard is expecting a bind variable.
Workaround(s):
1) Don't specify a where clause when report type = Interactive in "create form on table with report" wizard.
or
2) Specify a bogus where clause using bind variable syntax such as "system_role_name like :BOGUSVARIABLE". Then edit the report query once the wizard finishes and change the where clause to the constant string you wanted to use in the wizard (e.g. "system_role_name like 'MYSYSTEM%'")

• Best Practice to implement Reporting Exits

Hello,
I want to know the best practice to implementing reporting exits.
We have a case statement there and i_vnam.
THen we write like
WHen i_vnam
Code for filling the variable values.
The above method has a drawback that if one person is changing the program another person cannot at the same time and if one person transports it all the other changes are also transported. So if there is some code which is not ready to be used even it will be transported.
Another option is if we creae an include for each variable eg. ZBW_'variable name'...
And then for each variable we just have to transport the include and not the entire exit...
Do you see any drawbacks in this method or is there any other better way?

Hi,
You can create your program in SE38 for your own variable & call ZXRSRU01 program in it & pass the value to a variable which will in turn pass to to variable for CASE ivnam = "".
in this way the ZXRSRU01 will become accessible & can be called in any program.
But it will impact all the variables.
Its a good practice so that ZXRSRU01 is not impacted after that.
Hope it helps.
Thanks,
Rashmi.

• How to Highlight the CURRENT RECORD in a Table with Report Form

Hi,
I have created a Table with Report Form....let suppose the table is - EMP
Report page - 1
Form page - 2
Now, when I do Create / Update on Page 2,....the control is back on Page1.
Suppose in the Report Page (Page1)..we have 10 records....NOW how should I highlight the CURRENT RECORD in Page 1 with some color to identify the record which I have updated/created just now...
Thanks,
Deepak

Hi Deepak,
You could do that with a custom report template. I've done that here: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=267:175]
Go to Shared Components, Templates and create a new Report template as a copy of your existing one. Then edit your template. In the above example, the Column Template 1 setting was:
<td #ALIGNMENT# headers="#COLUMN_HEADER#" class="t18data">#COLUMN_VALUE#</td>I copied this into the Column Template 2 setting and updated the Column Template 1 setting to:
<td #ALIGNMENT# headers="#COLUMN_HEADER#" class="t18data" style="background-color:red; color:yellow;">#COLUMN_VALUE#</td>I then set the Column Template 1 Condition to: Use Based on PL/SQL Expression
and the Column Template 1 Expression to: '#EMPNO#' = '&P178_EMPNO.'
(In my example, P178_EMPNO is the single item on the linked to page.
Save those changes and go to your report and change its template to the new one. As long as a selection has been made and P178_EMPNO has a value, the condition will make sure that the report uses the first template for the row with the matching EMPNO value. All other rows get the template from Column Template 2.
