Entourage data transfer from old computer

Firewired Entourage Microsoft User info from my PowerBook G4 to the new MacBook Pro>Documents then launched Entourage expecting the old data to transfer. Didn't happen. Even tried to put a copy in hard drive. Anyone know the answer?

It's not automatic unless you manually replace the default user data file that Entourage creates when it's installed. There's an "Import Wizard" under Entourage's File menu. It should walk you through the process. It moves the old data into the new default folder.
The only trouble I had in importing is that, with two HDs and four partitions, I mixed up older backups and the most recent user file that I needed to import. Eventually, my feeble brain remembered where I put it and the import took only seconds.

  • Trouble with "data transfer" from old computer. Cannot open documents. Please help! Thank you.

Apple did a "data transfer" from our old computer onto our new iMac, and we cannot open any of our old documents that were "transfered." When I open them in "TextEdit," all I get is a lot of random letters and symbols. I've tried everything, please help. Thank you!

What old documents, you need to be much more specific. The info we are loooking for is what app created them, what the file extension is etc...

  • Transfer from old computer (to and from iPhoto 08')

So I want to transfer my old computer's iPhoto Library (which is '08) to my new computer with ilife '08. How do I do this so I don't lose my events and such? I don't want to use the migration assistant when transfering. I could use target disk mode on my old computer, but I am not sure how to import that old computer's iphoto library into the new computer's iphoto library. Thank You.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First rename the iPhoto library package on the old computer and then copy the entire iPhoto library package to the Pictures folder of the new Mac. Thendownload and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. That will insure the ownership and permissions is set correctly for the new owner.
Now download and run the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It will let you merge the two libraries while keeping the keywords, comments, titles and albums of both. It's the best option to do that. There is a free way to get the events from one library into the other and keep the comments, titles and keywords but it involves exporting each event from one library to a folder with the same name as the event and using the Include titles and keyword option of the export. Then importing those folders into the destination library. It can be done but is a lot of work.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Backup and data transfer from old to new iphone

I recently upgraded to the iphone 5s from iphone 4 and need to backup and transfer data from old phone to the new phone.  I want to backup using itunes rather than using icloud.  Do I need to disable icloud backup on the old phone before I start the backup process.  Do I need to disable anything on my computer (icloud).  I am using Windows Vista and Itunes Version 10.7.  Would appreciate step by step instructions for backup and transfer..  I am not computer or iphone saavy and don't want to mess things up.

If you backup with iTunes and you restored from the backup and the data are gone, then there is no where to retrieve them from unless you have another backup that contains those data.
Launch iTunes on the computer and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices. You will see a window with all of your backups listed in it.
If you see a recent backup that you are certain contains the data that you need, recover deleted data from iPhone backup.
If your note is gone from iCloud.com there is only a few ways to possibly recover it.
The first things I would check is a iCloud Backup, a iTunes Backup, or a 3rd party email that may have contained the note. To restore from a iCloud or iTunes backup follow this link. This article explains how to restore a device from either back up.
Note if you have backed up since the note went missing, you will not have the note on the backup. Make sure you do not back up if trying to restore from a back up as this will back up the content without the note.
To get to the "Set up assistant" on an iOS device, you must go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. Once the phone restarts, you will be at the "Set up Assistant"

  • Want to transfer from old computer to new computer and discontinue using old computer. Which computer should be the main computer in the setup? Or should I transfer bookmarks and settings by another method instead of using sync?

Have a computer which I will need to retire (bad hard drive), 32 bit OS. Have new computer 64 bit OS. Both computers have Firefox 5. Old machine on Windows 2000, new one on Windows 7. Old computer has all the bookmarks and settings that I need for the new computer. Also have Zotero on the old computer and would like to transfer it to the new computer. Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Much thanks.

    Hi,
Regarding bookmarks, settings and history, Firefox Sync can definitively help even if it's not it's primary goal. You would need to transfer your Zotero configuration manually though.
In order to transfer your data using Sync follow this instructions making your new computer the primary device: [[How to sync Firefox settings between computers]].
Once everything is set up make sure that you have all the information in the new computer. After it, you should be able to retire your old computer without any issue. Remember, that if you remove the bookmarks before disconnecting your old computer they would be removed from your Sync account too.

  • ITunes data transfer from old HD is missing songs

I replaced the HD on my iMac. The old HD was OK but I didn't want to take chances. I used super duper to transfer the old data to the new HD prior to replacing it. After replacing the HD I loaded SL and then transferred the data and apps over from the old HD using migration assistant. Now I get random error messages everytime I open iTunes. They say ' "Song Name" is not authorized on this computer'. If I go to authorize the computer it tells me that this computer is already authorized for this Apple ID. Now several of my purchased songs are not showing up ["Song Name" Can not be found] and it seems to find more songs to have a problem with every time I open iTunes. Is this a data transfer error? Old iTunes ID error? Thanks!

Sounds like the data simply did not transfer.
If you still have access to the old hard drive, copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old drive to the new drive.

  • How to transfer from old computer (Photo Album) to new computer (Elements)?

For Christmas I'm getting my wife a new version of Adobe and a new computer, as well.  She has 12,000 photos with tags in Adobe Photo Album 1.0 on the old computer.  I'm installing Adobe Elements 8 on the new computer.  How do I transfer the photos with tags?  Thanks for any advice.

I recommend that you first install PSE 8 on the old computer and convert the PSA 1 catalog to PSE 8.  Then once PSE 8 is running correctly, you can use the backup/restore method to move the catalog and photos to the new computer.  Though it is sometimes possible to do it in the other order, or to do the move and conversion in one step, I strongly recommend not doing that -- it will make the troubleshooting much harder.
Though Adobe claims to support conversion of catalog from previous version to PSE 8, many people with PSA and older versions of PSE have experienced problems.  See this FAQ for details on how to deal with common issues that might arise:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Problems_converting_catalo gs
See this FAQ for how to use the backup/restore method to move your PSE 8 catalog to the new computer:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos_1
As you can probably infer by now, it's very likely you'll run into issues, so expect to spend many, many hours (unfortunately).

  • Data transfer from old to new Palm using HotSync Manager and iSync

I'm upgrading from a Palm m515 to a Palm TX and want to quickly and easily transfer all of my data and applications. I'm using Palm's HotSync Manager but not the Palm Desktop software -- I'm using Apple's iSync to synchronize my data with iCal and Address Book.
Can anyone tell me what steps I should follow to safely accomplish the transfer?
I was hoping someone had written a guide to this, but Web searching revealed nothing. The best info I found was on Palm's site, but these pages don't take iSync into account and assume people are using Palm Desktop:

Just use Migration Assistant when you start the new machine. You can choose to migrate from either the old MBP or your TM backup.
If you have already taken delivery of the new machine and are using it you can still do this by running Migration Assistant.
    It's pretty simple process.

  • Transfer from old computer stymied

Just brought my new MacBook Pro home. Started it up, plugged a firewire cable into my old trusty eMac, started up the eMac with the T key pressed, got the firewire transfer image on the eMac screen. Pressed continue on the new MacBook Pro and got the window calculating sizes of my user account, applications folder and so on from the old eMac. The MacBook correctly calculated the size of the applications folder, network settings and folders and so on on my eMac hard disk BUT calculated my user account on the eMac as containing something like 57,000 gig. hence transfer impossible.
As a result I restarted the eMac and repaired permissions, then restarted the emac via a Mac OS X 10.4 DVD and repaired the emac hard disk. That process resulted in telling me the disk was AOK but that the nesting limit of 100 had been exceeded.
I then re-ran the MacBook Pro startup process and started the migration process only to achieve the original result (i.e. 57,000 gig, so transfer button stays grayed out). HELP!!!!
    Cheers,
    Simon

You will be ahead of the game if you use the Finder to just copy your essential documents, pictures, and music over -- rather than using the migration assistant. And then re-install any applications from their original discs.

  • How to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

how to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

The iCloud data will be on the new computer as soon as you download the iCloud control panel and sign into iCloud with your iCloud ID. What you see in iCloud is stored in iCloud, so it really doesn't matter what computer you are on. Once that computer is signed onto iCloud and the iCloud options are selected, you have full access to all of that information, and much of it is pushed back to your computer.
If you are referring to the data in an iCloud backup created by an iOS device, then that is not something that would be on a computer at all.
Does that answer your question? If not, post back with more info about what you are looking to find out.
