Environment::createConnection throws unknown exception

I just have such a simple code:
Environment* env = Environment::createEnvironment();
     Connection* conn;
     try {
          conn = env->createConnection
("user", "passwd", "database");
     catch (SQLException exc)
          cout << exc.what();
          exit(0);
     catch (exception exc)
          cout << exc.what();
          exit(0);
     catch (...)
          cout << "Here I am!!!";
          exit(0);
     env->terminateConnection (conn);
What kind of exception can be thrown from
env->createConnection ("user", "passwd", "database");
when it can't be catched by two previous handlers?
I have compiled it under VC++ .NET 2003 and run
under WinXP Professional with oracle 9.
Thanks for advise a lot, ...

OCCI libraries for developing applications with Visual C++ 7.0 (.NET 2002) are available in the 9.2.0.4 patchset. The default OCCI libraries work only with VC6.
Oracle 10gR1 10.1.0.2 includes OCCI libraries for VC++ 7.0 and VC++ 7.1 (.NET 2003).
The new libraries are installed under %ORACLE_HOME%\oci\lib\msvc\vc7 & %ORACLE_HOME%\oci\lib\msvc\vc71

  • Occi::environment createConnection throws exception

    Hi there,
    I tried connecting to my Oracle 11g database in debug mode but was unsuccessful. I am developing an ActiveX plugin using Visual Studio 2008. I downloaded OCCI 11.1.0.6.0 and instant client 11.2.0.1.0, extracted the the lib and dll files to my project directory, included the header files as part of my project include directory. Release mode works fine but it's debug that I am having issues with. When I link against oraocci11d.lib in debug mode, it gives me the error "error PRJ0050: Failed to register output. Please ensure you have the appropriate permissions to modify the registry." So then I linked against oraocci11.lib and was able to build successfully. However, I get the following error:
    try
              env = Environment::createEnvironment(Environment::DEFAULT);
              conn = env->createConnection("SYSTEM", "pwd", "remoteserver:1521/TEST"); //fails here
    env->terminateConnection(conn);

    Make sure you include th directory that contains all the necessary header files in your project. It should be in your installed oracle directory (eg. d:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\OCI\include) so point to that in Project Properties->C/C++->General->Additional Include Directories. Then link it to oraocci11d.lib under Project Properties->Linker->Input->Additional Dependencies. Also include the following DLLs oraociei11.dll, oraocci11d.dll, oraocci11.dll, orannzsbb11.dll in your debug and release directories.

    Hi Sander,
    It seems like the name or adress of the server is unknown for the machine, it cannot connect to it or the server is not running.
    Is your oCompany object initialized and connected to the DI API before creating the B1DIEventsService?
    Have you tried to run client and server side in the same machine to do a small test?
    The problem is at the .NET Remoting interface, it cannot connect to it.
    Regards
    Trinidad.

    Maciej
    public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws DatabaseException, IOException {
    EnvironmentConfig config = new EnvironmentConfig();
    config.setCacheSize(50 * 1024 * 1024); // 50MB
    config.setAllowCreate(true);
    config.setInitializeCache(true);
    config.setTransactional(false);
    config.setInitializeLocking(true);
    config.setInitializeLogging(true);
    config.setErrorStream(System.err);
    Environment dbEnv = new Environment(new File("db/"), config);
    // setup manager
    XmlManagerConfig mgrConfig = new XmlManagerConfig();
    mgrConfig.setAllowExternalAccess(true);
    XmlManager mgr = new XmlManager(dbEnv, mgrConfig);
    // setup container
    XmlContainer openedContainer = mgr.createContainer("test.dbxml");
    // put document from file to container
    URL url = new URL("file:etc/data/dblp/dblp.xml");
    XmlInputStream stream = mgr.createInputStream(url.openStream());
    XmlDocument xmlDoc = mgr.createDocument();
    xmlDoc.setName(url.getFile());
    xmlDoc.setContentAsXmlInputStream(stream);
    openedContainer.putDocument(xmlDoc);
    }

    Hi,
    I can try with the reader-2-writer approach. I've taken a look at your suggestion and it looks I only have to write kind of a reader (parser), as the writer for the container is already given, and EventReaderToWriter class I have from the example you told, me, am I right ?
    If so, the reader should override com.sleepycat.dbxml.XmlEventReader class and work as standard SAX parser. The XmlEventReader class uses native reader. Do you have or suggest me some documentation about functionality and arguments of functions from this class like the one below:
    public void setExpandEntities(boolean value) throws XmlException {
    dbxml_javaJNI.XmlEventReader_setExpandEntities(swigCPtr, this, value);
    Thank you,
    Maciej
    ps. The code descibing the idea comes below. Is that what you mean ?
    // setup container
    XmlContainerConfig cc = new XmlContainerConfig();
    cc.setNodeContainer(true);
    XmlContainer openedContainer = mgr.createContainer("test.dbxml", cc);
    // prepare empty document
    XmlDocument xmlDoc = mgr.createDocument();
    xmlDoc.setName("some name");
    // get an XmlEventWriter to create the new content
    XmlEventWriter writer = openedContainer.putDocumentAsEventWriter(xmlDoc);
    // get XmlEventReader to read existing document
    XmlEventReader reader = null; // TODO should I write some event-based parser here ?
    // copy
    EventReaderToWriter r2w = new EventReaderToWriter(reader, writer);
    r2w.start();
    // clean up (EventReaderToWriter does not close its arguments)
    writer.close();
    reader.close();

  • CreateConnection ORA-24960  exception with MSVC6.0 and Oracle10g R 10.2.0

    Hi,
    I need help as soon as possible as the deadline is approaching all so fast.
    I'm getting the following exception "ORA-24960: the attribute OCI_ATTR_USERNAME is greater than the maximum allowable length of 255" when using Environment:createConnection.
    I'm using VisualC++ 6.0 and Oracle 10g R 10.2.0.
    The same C++ code works fine with Oracle10g R 10.1.0.
    Below is the snippet of code that creates the problem:
    #include <iostream>
    #include<occi.h>
    using namespace oracle::occi;
    using namespace std;
              CString connStr = _T("DBNAME");
              ociEnv = Environment::createEnvironment();
         try{
              conn = ociEnv->createConnection(_T("USERNAME"), _T("PASSWORD"), (LPCTSTR)connStr);
         catch(SQLException ex){
              cout << ex.getMessage(); //throws 24960 error
    I need to get the application running on a machine that has the 10g R10.2.0 database installed so to use the oraocci10.dll and oci.dll from that installation. I've tried different combinations of compiling and linking.
    I've tried compiling and linking with include and lib files supplied as part of the 10g R10.2.0 installation in the oci folder - didn't work.
    I've tried compiling and linking with include and lib files supplied as part of the 10g R10.1.0 installation in the oci folder - didn't work
    I've tried compiling and linking with include and lib files supplied as part of the instantclient sdk R10.2.0 - didn't work
    The only way it worked was by compiling and linking with 10.1.0 files and run it on a machine with 10g R10.1.0 database so with the dlls from that installation.
    Please help me as soon as possible.
    Thank you,
    Sorin

    The problem here is created by the strings passed as parameters in the call to createConnection method. They are not objects of the same class as expected by the oraocci10 library.
    In the 10.1 version of oracle there is a separate version of the oraocci10 library built with msvcrt.lib and my own application uses the same version of the crt implementation (msvcrt.lib). The 10.2 release of oracle has only versions of the oraocci10 library built with msvcrt7 or older implementations of crt.
    The work-around is to build my application using the includes and the libs from release 10.1 and package the oraocci10.dll library from the 10.1 release in the same folder as the application so it gets loaded instead of the oraocci10.dll supplied as part of the client installed on the host. This oraocci10.dll will still use the OCI version supplied as part of the oracle client so no functionality will be lost from that perspective.
    IMHO the fix is to get OCCI team to build a version of oraocci10 with visual studio 6.
    Cheers,
    Sorin

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that when you upload document in Office 365 site, the event receiver in sandbox solution throws error.
    Per my knowledge, if you want to use event receiver in Office 365 environment, you need to use remote event receiver instead the normal event receiver in an app.
    Here are some detailed articles for your reference:
    Create a remote event receiver in apps for SharePoint
    Handle events in apps for SharePoint
    Thanks

    Hi i have deployed a sandbox solution using visual stdio2012 on share-point 2013 site at my local machine. when i tried to add web parts from custom folder to web part zone following error comes "An unknown exception occurred while executing a sand

    Can anyone help me . reply will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    GuYuming,
    You have not yet addressed the original issue, please DO NOT mark this as answered.  The suggestion to use the ulsviewer would only help in finding out more about the issue, but will not solve the unknown exception.  I have been able to duplicate
    the problem in my Development Environment and it seems to be related to permissions or running the SP 2013 "Development" environment on a Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller (to support single machine development).
    Ritu Ranjan,
    I found a post with a similar issue but might be related to this post as well.

  • Error in upgrading SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1 : "Task upgradebootstrap has failed with an unknown exception"

    I has successfully setup new Dev ENV of SarePoint server 2013 in VMware with 2 servers running om OS: win server 2008 R2 Ent SP1, AD + Central Admin Application Server.
    After that the configuration of SharePoint App and WorkFlow Manager completed as well and many projects run perfectly,
    And after installing SP1 of SharePoint server 2013, and running the SharePiont Configuration wizard to complete the configuration of the SharePoint Farm the Upgrade has fialed on Step2 with the following Error from the Log file:
    Task upgradebootstrap has failed with an unknown exception
    01/04/2015 00:43:30  11  ERR                  Exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException: Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException' was thrown.

       at Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.UpgradeBootstrapTask.Run()

    Also after that I was not able to create like before a new site , and this creating end with error message as follows:

    Is there any solution to my problem with SharePoint server 2013 SP1, this supposed not to cause any bug in stable environment.

    Hi Daniel,
    Thanks for replying on my post, actually I have downloaded the  kb2880552 sp1 for
    enterprise edition from the link
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880552 , and this has been experienced with me before since I had my Standalone Dev machine first installation, and the issue only occurred when the SP1 installed though.
    Anyway, I've tried to install CU Nov 2013 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2889944
    but still facing the same issue,
    I run the Setup of SP2013 from the CD to repair the SharePoint and error message appears,
    The issue related to "Microsoft.Office.TranslationServices" is also related to running
    the repair successfully which leads to the same error message above.
    The Version of SP 2013 from the program file is : 15.0.4571.1502
    The Update snapshot is as below:
    Is there a problem with my sharepoint media file?

  • Throwing an exception from XSLT

    Just wanted to share a finding with the Oracle XDB community and possibly suggest an enhancement to the xdb product development team (care of MDRAKE).
    I had a scenario where I wanted to throw an exception from the XSLT.
    A little Googling revealed this helpful post:
    http://weblogs.asp.net/george_v_reilly/archive/2006/03/01/439402.aspx
    ...so I gave it a shot.
    In my XSLT, I have a <xsl:choose> block with the following <xsl:otherwise> block:
    <xsl:otherwise>
        <xsl:message terminate="yes">Unknown Document Type</xsl:message>
    </xsl:otherwise>I used a stub test to run this through, giving it a file which would exercise the exception:
    select xmltype(bfilename('XML_RESOURCES', 'data.xml'),0).transform(xmltype(bfilename('XML_RESOURCES', 'sanitize_xml.dev.xsl'),0))
    from dual;..and to my 'joy', I did get an exception:
    ORA-30998: transformation error: execution of compiled XSLT on XML DOM failedHmm...would of been nicer to get something like what Eclipse/Xalan pops out:
    file:/H:/eclipse_indigo_workspace/XSLT/sanitize_xml.xsl; Line #28; Column #59; Unknown Document Type
    (Location of error unknown)Stylesheet directed termination...i.e. my custom error message "Unknown Document Type" isn't output by Oracle.
    Just to be safe, I tried a file which would NOT exercise this xsl:otherwise block and it did run through OK.
    So, could XDB report a better error?
    Thoughts?

    Now with respect to message the question is where...
    We 'could' output into the same buffer as is used by DBMS_OUTPUT, but that has limits in terms of the amount of output that can be generated.
    We could write it to the trace file, but that may be difficulat for a developer to get to
    We could write it to a log file in the XDB repository, but where and how to name it...
    We could another parameter to XMLTransform, which would be a Message Buffer
    All of these are in effect enhancements..
    BTW I checked with XML Spy and they seem to ignore message too, so I'm wondering how widely used this is...
    We cannot add it to the output of the XSL since XMLTransform defines the output of the XML to be well formed XML, and adding a random set of text nodes would viloate that rule..

  • Export with BiarEngine.jar works, using the API it throws an exception

    I'm using BiarEngine.jar to export from my CMS. it works fine.

    It is possible. I'm going the same way here. However, I remember I needed to contact support because it was not a standard feature of the Ant task. They provided me with the patch that allowed me to use -configSubProjects parameter in export.

  • JNDI: DirContext::list throws on exception when existing context is in LDAP

    I was able to import tutorial.ldif using LDAP Browser/Editor without incident:
    http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/~gawor/ldap/
    My LDAP now has the following tree:
    o=JNDITutorial
    ou=Groups
    5 cn entries
    ou=People
    10+ cn entries
    However, when calling DirContext::list("ou=People"), it throws the following exception message:
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: [LDAP: error code 32 - No Such Object]; remaining name 'ou=People'
    Here is the code:
         final static String ldapServerName = "backbone.seamonkey";
        public static void main(String[] args) {
         // Set up the environment for creating the initial context
         Hashtable env = new Hashtable(11);
         env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
         env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://" + ldapServerName +"/o=JNDITutorial");
         try {

             DirContext ctx = new InitialDirContext(env);
             // Return enum of people, but throws an exception...
             NamingEnumeration people = ctx.list("ou=People");

    I tried the same with a known LDAP service: OpenLDAP.org, and I get the same exception NameNotFoundException thrown with the following code:
         final static String m_ldapServerName = "OpenLDAP.org";
        public static void main(String[] args) {
         // Set up the environment for creating the initial context
         Hashtable<Object, Object> env = new Hashtable<Object, Object>();
         env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
         env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://" + m_ldapServerName + ":389/");
         try {
             // Create initial context
             DirContext ctx = new InitialDirContext(env);
             // Return enum of people, but throws an exception...

    I'll spare you the frustration of these past 24 hours, needless to say I've read most (if not all) of the threads related to compiling a swf into a ipa.  As it is, I'm very close and can't seem to get it to compile.
    On a Mac: the CMD line I am running is this:
    ./adt -package -target ipa-test -storetype pkcs12 -keystore  Certificates.p12 -storepass *P*A*S*S*W*O*R*D*  -provisioning-profile Team_Provisioning_Profile_.mobileprovision APPNAME.ipa  APPNAME-app.xml -C /Applications/Adobe\ AIR\ SDK\ 2.6/bin/ APPNAME.swf -C /Applications/Adobe\ AIR\ SDK\ 2.6/bin/AppIconsForPublish/ . -C /Applications/Adobe\ AIR\ SDK\ 2.6/bin/ Default.png
    The APPNAME-app.xml file is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>

    For the life of me, I can't figure out what / why this is throwing an exception.  Having battled through the missing icon 303 errors and getting to what I think is the final issue, please... can anyone debug why the SWF is not compiling?

    Tried a variation of the above CMD line:
    ./adt -package -target ipa-test -storetype pkcs12 -keystore  Certificates.p12 -storepass PASSWORD  -provisioning-profile Team_Provisioning_Profile_.mobileprovision APPNAME.ipa  APPNAME-app.xml -C /Applications/Adobe\ AIR\ SDK\ 2.6/bin/ APPNAME.swf Default.png AppIconsForPublish

  • LookupXRef not throwing any exception

    Hi All,
    We are using ESB Cross referencing out of box functionality provided with 10.1.3.3 SOA Suite.We have a case where we need to have some busineess logic when the value we are trying to look up in the Cross Ref table doesnot exists , in that case we tried to use needAnException(set to true()) field in the lookupXRef function inside the transformation.However its not throwing any exception in the BPEL Process.Instead it is avoiding other fields in getting populated underneath it in that complex type.As a result we are losing important business data inside the BPEL Process.Same is the case for PopulateXRefRow function as well while we are trying to insert a duplicate value into the Cross referencing table from BPEL Process.
    We need an exception for the above two cases.Are there any work arounds for these.
    We are in an urgent need of it.Can any one help us?
    Regards,
    Venkat.

    i try to use (after a reboot of soa suite), xpath function xref:populateXRefRow inside a assign task of my bpel 10.1.3.3.
    i have the following exception :

  • BIB-10310 An unknown Exception Occurred

    Hi ,
    I have developed reports and given the BA,Wokbookbook acces to the USER_Role which is given to the users.
    Now users are able to login and see other workbooks in Discoverer Viewer except 1 report.
    The error message tehy see is as follows :
    Oracle BI Discoverer was unable to find the worksheet that was requested.
    BIB - 10310 An unknown exception occurred.
    L_APPLICANT_V 4.Last_Name
    The report is built based on custom view Report_Cus_V, which join multiple views inside.(One of those multiple views is L_APPLICANT_V ).
    The query is working fine when ran from Toad, I am able to access the report in Discoverer Plus & Viewer.
    Could you please help to solve this issue.?
    I am into production support and this is a high priority issue...All suggestions are very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vj

    Hi All,
    Thanks for your help.
    I had raised an SR for this issue and was discussing with them for last few weeks. Though they said that some of the properties could have been changed as part of EBS upgrade, I have not been provided with the list of such changes. When requested I was told that I can find the change by comparing eex files before and after upgrade.
    As an alternative we are planning to write some scripts which picks up data from the following tables:
    EUL4_US.EUL5_BAS - Business Areas
    EUL4_US.eul5_objs - Folders in Business Areas
    EUL4_US.eul5_ba_obj_links - Link between business areas and folders
    EUL4_US.eul5_expressions - Item's under a folder
    But I have a small question, what does exp_type in the expressions table denote... I was trying to google and learnt that it could be one of these :
    'CI' , 'CO' , 'JP' , 'FIL' , 'PAR'
    But not sure what each of them denotes? Please suggest.

  • Deploying simple SharePoint 2013 feature causing error: "Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': An unknown exception occurred while executing a sandboxed code solution request in the worker process."

    When trying to deploy a sandboxed solution containing only a feature with a simple associated event receiver from VS 2013, I'm getting the following error:
    Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': An unknown exception occurred while executing a sandboxed code solution request in the worker process.\r\n|0
    I'm working in Visual Studio 2013, deploying to SharePoint 2013.
    The SharePoint project is very basic. I've only added a feature and an associated event receiver. It works without the event receiver. Then after I simply add the event receiver I get the error.
    I've tried deploying directly from VS 2013 as well as publishing to a .WSP and uploading via web interface. Same error reported using both methods. I'm doing this using an Administrator account that I've confirmed is a site collection administrator.
    Additionally, I've found that if I change Sandboxed Solution to False, deploy it, retract it, then change Sandboxed Solution back to True, then I can successfully deploy it. But this doesn't seem to be a permanent solution as the error will resurface a day
    or two later...

    Hi Steve,
    Are you running your SharePoint 2013 on domain controller?
