Environment setups

In our environment we are installing olite and the database on the same server - AIX 5L to be precise. We do not use Application Server, instead we use the stand-alone OC4J.
I'm curious to hear the types of environments people have setup. Any advice/comments would also be appreciated. Thanks.

If possible, you should try and seperate the database server from the application server. You probably will have to deal with some performance issues if you place them on the same machine. I have done both and I much prefer seperating the two. Do you need Oracle Application Server? It is recommended that for production you use Application Server, but I have deployed stand-alone to a database server supporting 1000 users. It's a powerful server running 8 CPUs mind you but it is doable.

    Putting that many servers together for a 500 seat company is madness. Go for the text book small farm deployment at most, in reality you'd probably be better off just having three servers total (1 WFE, 1 App, 1 SQL).
    I can't remember how much you should reserve for the hypervisor but if you allocate 1GB for that i think you're ok.
    For a three server deployment you'd probably be ok with 32GB, 8GB for the WFE and App server, 7GB for SQL and one for the hypervisor. 64GB would give you a lot more comfort.
    If you want more options like the enhanced workflows and OWA you'd need servers for each of those as  well.
    You can always overprovision CPUs on the hypervisor but more than 12 Cores would be wasted on a 3 server deployment for 500 users.

    I just purchased this M-Audio device and need help setting this up in the Logic Pro environment.
    My Setup is simple:
    Mic --> Mic Pre Amp --> M-Audio Firewire Solo --> Powerbook/Logic Pro
    So the M-Audio device is my only hardware I need to setup.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you for posting this response. This hit me last year and I could not for the life of me remember what we did to address this. Your note saved me gobs of time :)
    In that spirit... I'm including some notes we made on seeing this sort of error on the remote tier when using the native API (installing the automation server on the remote tier so the API is accessible to our native portlets). Ideally someone else finds value in this.
    P.S. - ignore the preachy/information tone on bits of this. It's written for our internal documentation, so I had to do it up all classy-like :P
    Error: "Datadirect license file not found at configured location: [license file directory goes here]\DDplm.lic"
    This error will occur if you use certain portions of the native API on the remote tier. When you use the native API you typically install the "automation server" (job processing server) - this is more appropriately thought of as a "light" portal install where the underlying portal logic / process libraries are installed and registered on the server, but the user interface portions are not available (EX: no web interface).
    When you install the automation server and portal cross-platform database libraries are installed to abstract out behavior specific to MS SQL, Oracle, etc. The automation server installer does not, however, install 100% of the files used by the portal - specifically, the license file(s) required by this cross-platform database library.
    To resolve this issue you must do two things.
    =========================================================
    1. Copy the license files from the portal to the automation server
    =========================================================
    * "Share" or terminal service over to a portal server. Navigate to the following (or close to it) directory path to find the license files generated by the portal installer.
    \\MyPortalServer\d$\Program Files\plumtree\ptportal\6.0\bin\
    * Find the folder "assemblies" and locate the file "DDplm.lic"
    * Copy the "assemblies" folder to your automation server, matching the path/location

  • Portal DEV Environment Setups

    I am still having problems setting up portal DEV/Debugging environment and fishing for some info on how everyone else had setup theirs.
    I have followed Plumtree's guide for basic portal DEV setup, but having issues with it.
    Does pretty much everyone had setup their environment that every elements needed are installed on their local machine? (ie., IIS, Tomcat (web app server), Plumtree portal 5.0.2 installed, VS .NET 2003 resident in their machine launching starter app as http://localhost/server.pt)???
    Mine (due to resource difficulties) was setup as such, VS .NET 2003 and source codes are local, then installation of the portal 5.0.2 that is referenced by the project is in remote machine in the network, this remote machine has IIS installed, portal 5.0.2, Tomcat, .NET framework. All the eight .csproj files were copied to this remote machine also and referenced by the solution when launched within my .NET IDE.
    Just fishing for some guidance from anyone who had their setups similar to mine. At the end of the steps I have taken, I am getting this error when debugging, "Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Unable to map the debug start page URL to a machine name. You may also want to refer to the ASP.NET and ATL Server debugging topic in the online documentation."
    Any help, ideas or guidance greatly appreciated.

    Never having tried to set up a multiple machine development environment, I can't speak in favor or against your remote IDE setup. However, you mentioned that your starter app URL is http://localhost/server.pt. This is incorrect. It should read http://localhost/portal/server.pt.

  • Background jobs - AE session environment setup incorrect ?

    I am trying to accomplish a small email queue myself,
    as due to the current privileges I have no access to the
    HTML Mail queue myself.
    Thus I stored emails to be send in a regular table..
    Sofar so good.
    In order to really email the pending messages, I have created a
    procedure which loops through all the pending messages and pushes them into
    the HTML email queue using :

    I have tested the procedure manually, and it works..
    To be user independent I have created a DBMS_JOB which call above procedure once an hour,
    but this will give me following error on all pending emails :
    ORA-20001: This procedure must be invoked from within an application session.
    So far I can interprete this message is that a specific session environment has to be setup,
    which ofcourse DMBS_JOB is not doing.
    Therefor I tried :

    end;
    The job gets into the queue, and I suppose it will set the environment so that all will go ok.
    Unfortunatly I do not see any activity on the pending emails.. It appears not to be executed at all,

    Now my question is how to submit a job using the correct HTMLDB session being setup ?

    By 'not having access to the mail queue' I mean I do not have the priveleges to look at the mail queue using the regular HTML DB userinterface....

    I can however submit new emails into the HMTL queue programmatically as described by using the HTMLDB api calls.
    My programmed procedure just submits a new email to be send using the HTMLDB api calls.
    If I call the amentioned procedure from within a 'legal' HTML session
    HOME => SQL => SQL Commands
    it is executed just fine...
    Execution of amentioned procedure outside of a legal HTMLDB session, e.g. by a regular DBMS_JOB will give the amentioned error...
    The question now is :
    *) How to programmatically build or instate a valid HTMLDB session so the procedure being called will run as if it was called from within a legal session.
    My procedure submitting the emails must first setup a valid HTMLDB session before
    submitting any emails via the HTMLDB api.
    I was thinking in lines of :

  • EP6 disaster recovery environment setup

    I would like to check if anyone on (EP6 SP2 patch 5, Windows 2003 server platform, Oracle database) who may have setup a disaster recovery (DR) environment (obviously in a different location to their production environment). We are also using KM and collaboration.
    We need to create an off-site DR environment for our EP6 solution and need to replicate data to this site every 4-6 hours so that we could recover in the event of a disaster (and not lose more than 6 hours worth of data).
    If you know have experience or know of someone who has done this before,(Windows platform), pls let me know.

    Duplicating your EP6 installation on a differend server is rather straightforward, so I will not go into that part.  With respect to your Oracle DB, one way of doing this would be to cross-link your log files to the DR server.  Then in case of recovery, you would only need to bring-up the Oracle DB, apply the log files, and then startup your EP6 instance.  Depending on the hardware you're using, your DR environment shoud be able to take over within a matter of 10-15 minutes.

  • CCB DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT SETUP

    Hi, I downloaded the SDK for CC&B from "eDelivery". And my company bought CC&B for customer service purpose not for the development purpose. And i want to set up the development environment using the CC&B and SDK, All the setup has been done. And I added a change handler just to make city as mandatory while adding a premise. But my CHandler do not show its effect and i am able to add a premise without specifying the city.
    IS that the CCB environment itself has got some setting that is not allowing it to show the effects. Also while installing CC&B the option "IS it used for Development purpose was false" later i changed it to true using cnfigureENv.cmd.
    But still my handler is not validating city while adding a premise.
    Can anybody suggest me whether it is the SDK limitation that is downloaded frm eDelivery (something like trial version) that prohibits CHANdLER to work.

  • Help required in RUEI 5.1 environment setup

    I am working on a customer demo and setting up the RUEI 5.1 environment.
    I am almost at the last stage of installation and trying to install the reporter software by using ruei-install.sh.
    it is installing the ux-collector package but giving error in installing ux-core package. the error is "cannot connect to the database" where as the database was created successfully and I have started the services using oracledb script.
    Could you please help me in that.

    If data is coming from 2 different systems ...you need to create two different connections and two different universes.
    otherwise you need to upgrade from BO 3.1 to 4.1...then you can build only one universe using multiple source enabled option using relational connection.
    or you need to develop one more server 3 combining with Server 1 and server 2 and then on top of server 3 ...you can develop single universe.  but i suggest upgrade from 3.1 to 4.1

    We are trying to set up our production environment. We are using Tortoise SVN for our repository. We have 2 servers "devl" and "prod". We have 2 runtime environments, one on each server. Currently we have only one copy of the applications on "devl" in Tortoise SVN.
    There has been some discussion lately on whether or not we need to keep a copy of the application in its production state on "prod".
    For those of you already in production environments using Tortoise SVN (Subversion), what have you found works best and your reasoning behind it.

    Hi Mary,
    This isn't really a JDeveloper question, but relevant nonetheless. Let clarify some issues before answering though.
    1. From what I understand you have two server for RUNNING your application, is that right? One is devl for development, integration and acceptation? While the other is prod for production? If so, then your question is not really valid. Normally you keep your repository on a single server (or a more complex topology if you have a really huge development team) that is NOT necessarily (and often not) the same as the runtime servers. This is quite useful for backup purpose, maintainability and scalability among other things.
    2. What do you mean by "you already in production environments using Tortoise SVN (Subversion)"? If you mean having a system in production that used SVN as a versioning system, then yes, and it work just like I mentioned above using the branch and tag features of SVN to mark the code when it goes in production and when an experimental feature needs to be developed.

  • RAC environment setup for OEM Grid Control

    Hi All,
    One of my customer is setting up RAC environment for OEM Grid Control, he has following questions.
    1) Can I use the DirectNFS client on each RAC node to mount SAN storage created with an OCFS2 filesystem?
    2) Can I use the DirectNSF client to mount the shared filesystem loader directory?
    3) Should I be using DirectNFS for the shared filesystem loader at all? Or should I just use a normal Linux NFS mount?
    4) Is OCFS2 preferred over NFS for the shared filesystem loader?
