EP6 SP2 ICrawler (deprecated) - XCrawler java docs?

Hallo all,
I want to implement a Crawler for EP6 SP2 and found out in the Java docs that ICrawler is deprecated for EP6 SP2 and that XCrawler should be used. But I can't find any information (e.g. java docs or sample coding) for XCrawler replacing ICrawler. Neither do I find the necessary libraries for implementing a crawler.
Could someone please point me to the right place to look for libraries/docs/samples? Or does anyone know something about ICrawler / XCrawler implementation on EP6 SP2?

Hi Helga,
with XCrawler, it seems that (I)XCrawlerService is meant. In fact, there is no XCrawler class provided with EP6 SP2.

I have resolved it !!!
That's usually caused by the database not containing a valid config framework tree. In all cases so far this happened as part of the user killing the java vm in a situation where one should have waited for the cancel button to return.
I restored the target database with the backup
taken before started the migration and rerun the tool on
the target. You can continue to use the MigrationInput.zip file.

EP6 SP2 Jco / System Alias Question

Hi all,
I'm developing a number of Iviews on an EP6 SP2 system connected to a 4.6C box. I have two problems that I'd be grateful for some help with.
1) How do I make use of the System Aliases set up in the portal via Jco ?
I know I can use the direct connection
JCO.createClient("001", // SAP client
          "<userid>", // userid
          "****", // password
             "EN", // language
                "<hostname>", //
          "00"); // system number
but it would be much easier if I could use the configured System Alias called "UKSAP" which has been set-up in each Portal box.
2) I believe that EP6 SP2 will not require connection pooling in the jco code. Is this correct ?

We are trying to do pretty much the same thing you are, I am trying to get my Java iview to use the System Alias to connect to an R/3 JCO destination.
Could you elaborate on your findings in this regard. I am currently getting the following error : "Target for system alias SAP_R3_HumanResources not found in system landscape"
I have entered the connection info for this target into the jcoDestinations.xml and I've created a system in the portal with the alias SAP_R3_HumanResources...

KM feature difference between Netweaver and EP6 SP2.

Folks,
I need to come up with advantages of upgrading our EP6 SP2 ) environment to Netweaver stack. . I have heard a lot about it. I now need to document this.
Now I want to make a solid case of this to my Management and get their buy in.
Where can I find information where I can get a comparison primarily from a KM standpoint, and overall portal feature set.
Based on this I have to come with a ROI model that will help us migrate to Netweaver stack.

via user id pwd mapping.
But it is giving me an error saying java.lang.null pointer exception.
I guess the parameters its not taking.
Here are some details:

I know that onecan access a webdynpro(deployed on WAS6.40) through a webdynpro-iview-template in EP6-SP2.

do you want to run your WDs directly on the EP6 SP2 host? If so: No, you can't deploy them there, as EP6 SP2 is based on SAP Web AS 6.20 Java which does not provide a web dynpro runtime.
You can of course as you already mentioned integrate a remote WD application in SAP EP.

License in Failover/Backup Portal - Ep6 SP2

Hello,
We run EP6 SP2 and we copy the database and portal server file system to different hardware as a diaster recovery method. We we bring up the portal on this new server it loads fine, but it says that it is not licensed since the Hardware key is different.
Does anyone know if I can import a license on the current server with the hardware key of the DR Server so that it will be licensed when you start it?
Any ideas / suggestions?

Question about the java doc of String.intern() method

hi all, my native language is not english, and i have a problem when reading the java doc of String.intern() method. the following text is extract from the documentation:
When the intern method is invoked, if the pool already contains a string equal to this String object as determined by the equals(Object) method, then the string from the pool is returned. Otherwise, this String object is added to the pool and a reference to this String object is returned.
i just don't know the "a reference to this String object is returned" part, does the "the reference to this String" means the string that the java keyword "this" represents or the string newly add to the string pool?
eg,
String s=new String("abc"); //create a string
s.intern(); //add s to the string pool, and return what? s itself or the string just added to string pool?greate thanks!

Except for primitives (byte, char, short, int, long, float, double, boolean), every value that you store in a variable, pass as a method parameter, return from a method, etc., is always a reference, never an object.
String s = "abc"; // s hold a reference to a String object containing chars "abc"

I'm not familiar with the -overview option, but I bet
it's complaining about your overview.html file.That is a good suggestion but actually the overview file is being processed and shows up in the java docs. The "package.html" files in each of the source folders are being ignored. There are 10 source folders, 10 "package.html" files and 10 errors.
Any other ideas or suggestions how to call javadoc?

Deprecation in Java

I don't know what is deprecation in java please tell me brief about it?

It means that it is no longer supported and only kept around for backwards compatibility. If you can help it do not use them because they are not gaurenteed to be in future releases.

How to know whether a method is thread-safe through the java-doc?

In some book, it says that SAXParserFactory.newSAXParser() is thread-safe,but in the java-doc,it doesn't say that.

I want to know, how to know whether a method is thread-safe?

System.out is a PrintStream object. None of the methods there use the synchronized modifier, but if you look in the source code, you will find out it is thread-safe, because it will use synchronized blocks whenever it writes some text.
The source code is in the src.jar file which you can extract.
I didn't find any comments about that PrintStream is thread-safe in the API.

Java Docs for the Module Process Classes

Hi,
I would like to start creating my own JDBC and file-based modules for interface development. I have found several SDN contributions which step through the creation of these modules. These are very helpful.
However, I have not yet found comprehensive documentation describing the classes used in module develpment. i.e.:
- com.sap.aii.af.mp.module.Module
- com.sap.aii.af.mp.module.ModuleContext
- com.sap.aii.af.mp.module.ModuleData
Does anyone know where to find the Java Docs for these classes? Or is there any other equivalent explanation of how to use these classes, their methods and fields?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are the enhancements made in EP6 SP2 patches 28 & 29.
What I mean to say is that what are the new features added in Patches 28 & 29. here I exclude Bug fixes.
I can go to the central note for patch 28 : 793582 and can get a list of notes which indicate bug fixes done in Patch 28
Similar way, I can go to the central note for patch 29 : 803871 and can get a list of notes which indicate bug fixes done in Patch 29
What I am really concerned is regarding new features added in these two patches (Patch 28 & 29) separately.
Are there any new features added in these two Patch releases. If yes, Where are they documented.
Are they documented separately or their respective guides are updated.

Not quite right, Robert, I don't know what a dreadfully old version you have looked on... It is listed, but it is explicitely said that both patches, 28 & 29, have
"no new features or enhancements to existing functionality. It is cumulative as of Patch 5. Please refer to Patch 5 and Patch 27 documentation for information about previous enhancements."

It's a pity that SAP publishes the version name within the link, so if a new version exists, one has to know (or to look via service.sap.com).
