EPICS access issues via DSC Module - Array Size Limitations

It seems that LabVIEW/DSC is not paying attention to the EPICS_CA_MAX_ARRAY_BYTES environment variable.  I have set it to a large value which works for caget and camonitor, but LV/DSC only allows me to read 4099 four byte floats in a single array.  If I ask for 4100 or more I get "Unknown Bad Quality" in the System Manager status.
Is there some way I can get larger array bounds?  I have some quite large arrays (20,000+ floats) that I must read and process.

Hello,
Currently there is no workaround for this situation, but I can assure you that R&D is looking into it because there was CAR created for it by one of the R&D engineers. So I can assure you that it is being looked into.

  • Weblogic 9.2 - Singleton accessibility issue in war modules of an ear.

    Hi all
    I have packaged two wars and a jar into an ear. The manifest.mf file of the ear and both wars reference the jar and the application.xml lists the two wars and the jar as modules. This deployed successfully in weblogic 9.2.
    I understood that the two wars would be able to access the classes in the jar. Initially I thought that this was happening fine, but one of the key classes is a singleton and testing has revealed that the two wars are getting different versions of the singleton, so the class loaders of both wars are obviously loading separate instances of the classes in the jar for each war.
    Obviously I want both wars to use the same singleton instance as it contains application-wide config, which can be changed by both/either of the wars, and the only way I have achieved this is by putting the jar in an external directory and referencing it in the weblogic classpath. It would be nice if I could keep everything within the ear - do you know any way how this could be achieved.
    Many thanks for reading my post and for any replies
    Kind regards

  • Array size limitations... and prime number programs.

    What are they? I am an ameteur programmer who wrote an extremely efficient prime finding program, if i do say so myself. The program doesnt find high primes, just prime numbers from 1-1,000,000,000 so far. Thats one version, the next version i use is faster, but because it uses an ArrayList, it can only do the primes 1-10,000,000. I am trying to work the programs up to primes with 50 or more digits, but ArrayList runs out of space, Integer is too small, I dont quite know how to switch all my code to be compatable with BigIntegers, and I cannot find a limit to arrays. I guess that I could find big primes if a) Integer was bigger, b)I tried, but what i wanted to do, because the second program is way more effecient, is to use an array to store primes instead of an ArrayList. The only problem? Arrays cannot be appended, so I need to know the limit in size for an array... So far, from my tests, I have found the limit to be somewhere around, 15,380,277. The only problem with this is that every time i compile, i can use a different number. So I would like it if a) somone could tell me the limit to an array's size, b) ideas for programs that can find primes with 50 or more digits, c) Down below is the code, could someone tell me how to convert it to BigIntegers?
      private void primeFinder1root(int beg, int end){
        int tmp = 0;
        int counter = 0;
        int counter2 = 2;
        boolean flag;
        for(int n = 3; n < end; n+=2){
          if(n%5!=0){
            flag = true;
            for(int d = 3; d <= Math.sqrt(n) && flag; d+=2){
              counter++;
              if(n%d == 0)
                flag = false;
            if(flag){
              System.out.println(n);
              counter2++;
              tmp = n;
              if(counter2%100000 == 0)
                System.out.println(n);
        System.out.println();
        System.out.println("The program looped " + counter + " times. There were " + counter2 + " primes found. "
                             + tmp + " was the last prime found.");
      }That is the first progam that does not use an ArrayList, but is still extremely effecient, it only looped 1,744,118,556 times to find the primes 1-100,000,000 which seems like a lot, but it truely isn't. I realize that by using counters and printing, I am slowing the program down immensly, but i am fine with that.
      public void primeFinder(){
        boolean flag;
        int tmp = 0;
        int tmp2 = 0;
        int counter = 0;
        primes.add(2);
        for(int n = 3; n < end; n+=2){
          if(n%5!=0){
            flag = true;
            for(int i = 0; i < primes.size()/2 && ((Integer)primes.get(i)).intValue() <= Math.sqrt(n) && flag; i++){
              tmp = ((Integer)primes.get(i)).intValue();
              if(n%tmp == 0)
                flag = false;
              counter ++;
            if(flag && n!=1){
              System.out.println(n);
              primes.add(n);
              tmp2 = n;
              if(primes.size() % 100000 == 0)
                System.out.println(n);
        primes.add(0, 1);
        System.out.println(counter + " " + primes.size() + " " + tmp2);
      }This is the code that stores all the primes it finds in an ArrayList, and then compares all numbers to the ArrayList of primes. This is extremely more effecient than the first, looping only 278,097, 308 times to find the primes 1-10,000,000 (the other looped 868,772,491 times). I used 10,000,000 as my example because this program cannot go to 100,000,000 because there are 5,761,455 primes and the ArrayList can only hold ~4,000,000 objects. Because of this ~4,000,000 object limitation on the ArrayList I have set my sites on the Array. This is the reason why I want to know the limitations of an Array if you could please tell me. If you could also, I would like help making my code compatable with BigIntegers as well.
    Well, sorry for the very long post, but thank you if you answer it and took the time to read it.

    Here is a more fine tuned version for your code
       public static long findPrimes(int max, ArrayList out){
          long count=0;
          FastList primes = new FastList((int)Math.sqrt(max));
          primes.add(2);

             int al_size = primes.size();

             boolean prime_flag =true;
             boolean loop_flag = prime_flag;
             for (int j=0; j<al_size && loop_flag; j++)
                int val = primes.get(j);
                if (i%val == 0)
                   loop_flag = prime_flag = false;
                else if (val > sqrt)
                   loop_flag = false;
                count++;
             if (prime_flag)
                primes.add(i);
          primes.addToArrayList(out);
          return count;
    Following a data structure to store the prime numbers while processing
    Since this holds first number of primes in an array instead of in an ArrayList
    the get will work much faster and for those elements the casting is not required
       static class FastList
          ArrayList list = new ArrayList();
          int cache[];
          int pointer = 0;
          int fastAreaSize;
          public FastList(int fastAreaSize){
             cache = new int[fastAreaSize];
             this.fastAreaSize = fastAreaSize;
          public void add(int i){
             if (pointer < fastAreaSize)
                cache[pointer] = i;
             list.add(new Integer(i));
             pointer++;
          public int size(){
             return pointer;
          public int get(int i){
             if (i<fastAreaSize)
                return cache;
    else
    return((Integer)list.get(i)).intValue();
    public void addToArrayList(ArrayList al){
    for (int i=0; i<pointer; i++)
    if (i<fastAreaSize)
    al.add(new Integer(cache[i]));
    else
    al.add(list.get(i));
    When running in my pc
    above code detected primes within range 0-10000000 in 281809517 iterations within 6.718secs
    while your original code did the same in 278097308 iterations within 13.687 secs.
    By the way i removed the check for '5' thats why my code does more iterations.
    Notice that I have relocated code like Math.sqrt and ((Integer).....).intValue() to reduce the re calculating the same thing. That saved a lot of time.

  • Using Interactive Report with SQL query accessing tables via db link

    Is there a known issue with using the interactive report in version 3.1.2.00.02 with SQL that is accessing tables via a database link? I get the error 'not all variables bound', I do not get this error when using the standard report for the same SQL?

  • Proper array size to be used in bulk insert

    What is the proper array size to be used in bulk insert?
    I have around 1 million records. Should I insert them all at a time or distribute them over many iterations.

    I'd generally expect external tables to be more efficient than SQL*Loader if only because you don't have to spend cycles loading data into a staging table. Depending on the file, Oracle may be able to access the data in parallel via the external table interface.
    From a pure efficiency standpoint, it would be best if the processing could be encapsulated into a single multi-table insert statement. Whether that is realistic, of course, depends on your logic, how complicated that SQL statement would be, etc. If you have to resort to PL/SQL, bulk processing is surely the way to go. it doesn't matter too much what LIMIT size you choose-- something like 100 or 1000 is generally appropriate-- but the marginal difference is pretty small. On a load of only 1 million rows, it may not be particularly easy to measure.

  • Formula Node: Array Size can be specified by wiring an input ?

    All
    I have a formula node where I have a module which operates on an array. I want to keep the size of the array generic. So I tried keeping the array size as an input N, and initialized the array as xdim[N]. It shows an error in my formula. what am i doing wrong ?
    Kudos always welcome for helpful posts

    I had exactly the same issue as Spartan00.
    Just for curiosity, I was comparing labview speed in initializing a gaussian array through both the normal graphic code and the formula node.
    The formula node proved to be MUCH, MUCH faster.
    float m = 0.5, s=0.5, x;
    int i;
    float y[1000000];
    for(i=0; i<1000000; i++) {
    x=i*1e-6;
    y[i]=exp(-pow((x-m),2)/(2*s));
    Unfortunately, I can't wire the array size as an input.
    (By the way, I simply enclosed the formula node in a for loop and let it run 10000 times to get the average execution time. I did the same for the equivalent graphical code and it turned out to be much slower).
    Has anybody ever tried to do the same?

  • Questions re: Licensing & Feature Availability of the DSC module

    Hello,
    I transferred a project to another development PC. When I opened it, some of my network shared variables (NSV's) were flagged with Feature Errors: "Initial Value: Not licensed or cannot be edited outside of LabVIEW." I found out that it's because I didn't install the DSC Module on the newer machine; removing the "initial value" feature made the error message disappear.
    That error itself wasn't a big deal, but it got me thinking and investigating. http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4679/en says:
    If you want to use the features of the LabVIEW DSC Module, you must host the shared variables on Windows. The LabVIEW DSC Module adds the following functionality to network-published shared variables:
    · Historical logging to NI Citadel database.
    · Networked alarms and alarm logging.
    · Scaling.
    · User-based security.
    · Initial value.
    · The ability to create custom I/O servers.
    · Integration of the LabVIEW event structure with the shared variable.
    · LabVIEW VIs to programmatically control all aspects of shared variables and the shared variable engine.
    Question 1
    I did not realize that the Initial Value feature was part of the DSC Module. If I use it in a project, does that mean that my customer would need to buy a DSC runtime license? (I'm not using any other DSC feature)
    Question 2
    In my project, the NSV's in question were hosted on a cRIO target, yet my prototype (which had Initial Value enabled) ran happily without issues. This contradicts the documentation above which says "you must host the shared variables on Windows". Is this expected?
    Question 3
    I created a new NSV on my new machine (which doesn't have DSC installed). I saw the "Scaling" option. Is Scaling part of the DSC module or not?
    Question 4
    Initial Value and Scaling are generic features, unrelated to data logging/supervisory control. Why are they in the DSC Module? Should they not be in the base SV Engine?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    1. Yes, any build that uses DSC features require a runtime license.
    2. That's a recommendation for more reliable operations.
    3. No, it is a native LabVIEW capability. The DSC modules simply adds more features regarding communication to protocols, alarming, etc
    4. Initial value, Yes. Scaling, no. I believe is for easy access. Old school method is the one shown in here at the section "Initialize Your Shared Variables".

  • Iteration Speed issue when Indexing 3D array wried to a while-loop

    Brief Description of my Program:
    I am working on the real-time signal generation by using LabView and DAQmx (PCI-6110 card). My vi reads the big data file (typically 8MB txt file containing about 400,000 samples (complex double precision). Then, the signal is pre-processed and I end up with a huge 3D array to feed while-loop (typically 3D array dimension is N x 7 x M where N & M >> 7). Inside the loop, that 3D array is indexed and processed before the results are written to the DAQmx outputs. I have a speed issue when indexing the large 3D array (i.e, 3D array having a large sub-array size). My while-loop could not run fast enough to top-up the DAQmx AO buffer (at the output rate of 96kHz). It could run faster only if I use smaller 3D array (i.e, smaller-sized sub-arrays). I do not quite understand why the size of 3D sub-array affects the rate of looping although I am indexing same sub-array size at each iteration. I really appreciate your comments, advices and helps.
    I include my 3D array format as a picture below.
    Question on LabView:
    How does indexing an 3D array which wires to the while-loop affect the speed of the loop iteration? I found that large dimension of sub-arrays in the 3D array slows down the iteration speed by comparing to indexing the same size of sub-array from smaller-sized sub-arrays of the 3D array to perform signal processing inside the while-loop. Why? Is there any other way of designing LabView Program to improve speed of iteration?
    attachment:

    Thank you all for your prompt replies and your interests. I am sorry about my attachment. But, I have now attached a jpg format image file as you suggested.
    I had read the few papers on large data handling such as "LabVIEW Performance and Memory Management". Thus, I had already tried to avoid making unnecessary copies of data and growing arrays in my while-loop. I am not an expert on LabView, so I am not sure if the issues I have are just LabView fundamental limitations or there are any other ways to improve the iteration speed without reducing the input file size and DAQ output rate.
    As you request, I also attach my top-level vi showing essential sections such as while-loop and its indexing. The attached file is as an image jpg format because the actual vi including Sub-VIs are as big as 3MB in total. I hope my attachment would be useful for anyone who would like to reply my question. If anyone would like to see my whole vi & llb files, I would be interesting to send it to you by an e-mail privately and thus please provide your e-mail address.
    The dimension of my 3D array is N x 7 x M (Page x Row x Column), where N represents number of pages in 3D array, and M represents the size of 1D array.  The file I am currently using forms 3D array of N = 28, & M = 10,731.  Refering to the top-level vi picture I attached, my while-loop indexes each page per iteration and wrap-around.  The sub-VI called "channel" inside the while-loop will further index its input (2D array) into seven of 1D arrays for other signal processsing.  The output from that "channel" sub-VI is the superposition of those seven arrays.  I hope my explaination is clear.

  • How to get list of users who have access to a SAP module

    Hi,
    We are developing a tool in Java where we will pull the data from various modules in SAP (like Purchase order, Invoice etc). Lets take Purchase Order Module as example. I can get the data using BAPIs (like BAPI_PO_GETDETAIL).
    However to implement Authorization, I also want the list of users/groups that have access to Purchase order module. Is this possible? Or can we get the ACL information from the tables in database like EKKO for Purchase order?
    I have tried searching for solution but couldn't find any. Please suggest if there is some standard way by which we can pull the ACL information via Java, or if this can be achieved by some custom RFCs.
    Thanks,
    Anurag

    Anurag,
    The best way is to wirte a RFC Function Module (It will fetch the roles of the user from agr_users table) which will take user id as import paramter and will give you assigned roles.
    Please let me know if you still need any further information.

  • Error in Extraction with Generic Datasource via Function Module

    Dear Gurus,
    Iam working for BI-HR module.We are extracting data with generic data source via function module. The client some more extra fields in already existing DS. So we made a copy of that Function module and tried to create new generic DS, we got error while extraction like "Error occured during the extraction process". Can you please help in resolving this issue, your valuable suggestion would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks and regards
    Arun S

    Hi,
    Which structure are you using??
    Are you using the same old structure for this function module as well.
    Have you enhanced the structure with new required fields.
    New extrac fields needs to be added to existing structure if you are using the same or create a new one and make sure that you have all the fields in the structure which you are going to use in the data source.
    You need to take care for the append as well and the issue could be in the code as well.
    Make sure you have written the proper code and just for the new fields done an append
    Thanks

    I am thinking of comparig the last x-axis value to the current one, and if it is the same, then not parse that row.  The attached VI is as far as I got.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    hiNi

  • Guidelines for setting Application Module Pool Size Parameters?

    Are there guidelines for setting the application module pool size parameters, such as initial pool size, maximum pool size, etc., based on the expected number of users or other factors? I've read the developer guide sections (ch 28-29), but still don't have a good feel for how to correctly set the optimal values for the pool configuration parameters? Even more importanty, how do I monitor the pool's efficiency during runtime to determine if the pooling parameters are configured correctly?
    This will be critical to performance and scalability, so I'm looking for a way to get some visibility into how the pooling is working during production operation to assess whether there are bottlenecks/constraints/ineffeciencies?
    Note I am using Tomcat as the java runtime container; ADF BC / JSF jdev 10.1.3.1
    Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

    KUBA - were you able to resolve these issues and if so are there any lessons learned you can share?
    I'm hoping someone from the ADF team can answer our original question including guidelines for setting pool parameters and how to monitor the pool's performance while running in production.
    thanks
