  • MS Access equivalent for Mac

    Hi there,
    Does anyone know if there is a decent MS Access equivalent for Mac ... and please do not say FileMaker as it has a different interface and table management logic that I do not really understand (Is it good enough to make it worth trying to learn?)
    If there is something that works like access (queries, multiple tables, relationships etc.) I would be very happy to take a look at it.
    Cheers

    Hi,
    start from here:
    http://guide.apple.com/
    and search Software>Productivity and Utilities>Database and similar items
    But remember: Filemaker IS the database for Mac and it is FAR better than Access.

  • I have repeatibly loaded Adobe Acrobat Reader but the Plugin Check gives me Adobe Acrobat Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 Outdated Version Update. While the plug in check is important it is quite bothersome at present. Please help.

    EVERY TIME the browser boots it kicks off the plug in check. I understand that this is important but it is currently a pain. Once I update Adobe Acrobat Plug in the browser does not recognize that the plug in has been installed and keeps coming up and up an up an up.
    This is the message I get.

    Please get back with me regarding a fix.

  • Creating a template in Pages is straight-forward as answered here previously. Is there and equivalent for iBooks Author which can start with a blank page and build up the template as required? or can one only adapt a ready made template?

    Creating a template in Pages is straight-forward as answered here previously. Is there an equivalent for iBooks Author which can start with a blank page and build up the template as required? or can one only adapt a ready made template? This has proved unsatisfactory to me so far. Lines are left in etc.

    There are two basic menus for fonts - one from the main menu bar and one from the toolbar. You can also bring up the font manage dialog.
    I don't recommend trying to hard to force an otherwise foreign font, as it inevitably needs to be usable/supported on iOS as well, and that can get tricky w/3rd party fonts, as an example, even with the expanded font support in the latest iBA.
    If you need to discuss fonts more, I suggest starting a new thread....preferably with a slightly more brief title, thanks.

    Mobile Me was so handy. I pushed the little sync button and everything updated. Is there any equivalent for I Cloud?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Unfortunately, iCloud does not offer equivalents to Mobile Me’s iDisk, Gallery or Web Hosting services. You will need to find a third party solution to replace these services. You might consider DropBox, SugarSync, MediaFire or any other service that offers online storage. (not all these alternatives offer all the services previously provided by iDisk)

  • ARD equivalent for XP and Vista

    Unlikely me: the other guy (the PC guy) at the school I work for left and now the responsibility of managing a XP lab (which will have to go to Vista at some point) is on my shoulders.
    The one nice this that I like that the computers are all MacMinis, dual-booting to both XP and OS X. My question is:
    I use Apple Remote Desktop to manage all of the Macs in the school, and I need some advice on an equivalent for Windows. I would like something similar to ARD in the sense that I can 1) remotely control a single computer, and 2) most importantly, I can roll out updates, patches, and software installs to all the computers at once.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    have a look at RDC from Microsoft http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781938.aspx
    There are also packages for OSX http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/networking_security/remotedesktopconnectio nclient.html

  • How can I sign My applet for IE and Netscape without JavaPlugIn?

    I think we can sign our applets with Javasigner.exe but this certificate is not being
    supported by IE and Netscape. If you want to use this certificate with IE and Nets.
    you must install JavaPlugIn to all users. I dont want to choose this way.
    I think we have one alternative for this purpose.
    For Netscape: Signing Tool
    For IE: The program that included SDK-Java
    But I could not find SDK-Java any where.
    I think Microsoft have gave up to support the Java certification...
    I am not sure.
    How can I prepare signed applet that can be run on IE and Netscape?
    This applet will have some permissions.

    The tool you need for signing cab files for the MS JVM is signtool.exe. I beleive that the .NET version of this tool can be used, as the signing process was not Java specific. You do need certificates in a different format than for jarsigner or the netscape signing tool. Verisign will happily sell you two different certificates, but there is probably a way to convert between formats using openssl or similar.
    You'll also need to package your files in a cab instead of a jar. cabarc.exe is what we use here. Again, it does not seem to be Java specific, so you can probably still find it despite Microsoft no longer making their Java tools available.

  • Problem with OpenLDAP and JNDI

    I'm having problem working with OpenLDAP and JNDI.
    First I have changed LDAP's slapd.conf file:

    rootdn          cn=Manager,dc=antipodes,dc=com
    directory     "C:/Program Files/OpenLDAP/data"
    rootpw          secret
    schemacheck offthan i used code below, to create root context:
    package test;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import javax.naming.NamingException;
    import javax.naming.NameAlreadyBoundException;
    import javax.naming.directory.*;

    I haven't done any chages to any schema manually.
    I know I'm missing something crucial but have no idea what. I have tried many other code from tutorials from net, but they are all very similar and throwing the same error I showed above.
    thanks in advance for help.

    I've solved this.
    The problem was that all codes were using classes from Microsoft Active Directory, and they are not supported in OpenLDAP (microsoft.schema in OpenLDAP is just for info). Due to this some fields are not the same in equivalent classes ("user" and "person").
    so partial code for creating user in root would be:
    import java.util.Hashtable;
    import javax.naming.ldap.*;
    import javax.naming.directory.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import javax.net.ssl.*;
    import java.io.*;

         public static void main (String[] args)
              Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
              String adminName = "cn=Manager,dc=antipodes,dc=com";
              String adminPassword = "secret";
              String userName = "cn=Albert Einstein,ou=newgroup,dc=antipodes,dc=com";
              env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");

  • Is there a logic:match equivalent for JSTL?

    In a search page I execute a query which returns an array of objects (All objects are of the same object type and are cast to Object[]) and each object has many attributes. I tried using <logic:iterate>, but I was never successful in having it display any results. I believe this had something to do with the entire array being passed via session scope instead of just one record and me not specifying it properly with <logic:iterate>. I was able to successfully use <c:forEach> and it worked right away. I stuck with using that because of its "just works" ability in addition to using a lot of other JSTL code. However, one of the attributes that is being printed out needs to be parsed and is of the form "Yxxx". <logic:match> covers this very nicely, but when I specify it in the below code it is not able to find my variable in any scope.
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
        <logic:match parameter='${myResults}' property='pin' value='Y'>
            <c:out value="Preeti"/>
        </logic:match>
    </c:forEach>I have done several google searches, but I haven't found a JSTL equivalent for <logic:match>. If there is one could someone please tell me what it is? In addition, although <logic:match> is great I still need to print out a substring of that attribute. Could someone tell me how to do that? If this is not possible could someone please tell me if its possible to use <logic:iterate> with an array of objects like I was attempting to do initially so that I could use <logic:match> at least?
    Thanks to all of you for your time.

    Yes you can use the logic:iterate tag. I think you have to specify the type of the exposed variable though. I prefer the forEach loop.
    I think you are using the wrong attribute in the logic:match tag. You should be using the "name" attribute rather than "parameter"
    Parameter attribute refers you to a request parameter, and I pretty sure you don't want that.
    So given the collection of objects in the session attribute "result"
    This should loop through them all, and see if they start with the letter 'Y'
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
        <logic:match name='myResults' property='pin' value='Y'>
            <c:out value="Preeti"/>
        </logic:match>
    </c:forEach>As for the latter bit, are you using a JSP2 container and JSTL1.1? It would appear so seeing as you are trying to use EL expressions in the logic:match tag.
    If so, you could make use of the JSTL function library:
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
       <c:if test='${fn:startsWith(myResults.pin, "Y")}'>
          <c:out value="${fn:substring(myResults.pin, 1, -1)}"/>
        </c:if>
    </c:forEach>And I've just spotted a very cool function in there: substringAfter
    <c:forEach var="myResults" items="${sessionScope.result}" varStatus="status">
          <c:out value='${fn:substringAfter(myResults.pin, 'Y')}'/>
    </c:forEach>Cheers,

  • My web site has a link which automatically configures an email. Doesn't work in Firefox 5.0 but OK in IE 8, Opera and Netscape. v

    My web site is generated by Second Site , author John Cardinal, and contains email links which when selected automatically createsan email which all you need to do is fill in the body and send it. This has worked in the past in Firefox and does work now using IE 8, Opera, and Netscape browsers but does not work when using my Firefox browser neither locally on my computer or in my Internet website. Firefox is my browser of choice. This has worked in the past using Firefox.
    My web site is www.schulteis.com/omnibus/. On the presentation page, on the bottom, where it identifies Genealogist: Site Administrator. Select it and it may work for you. John Cardinal tested it on his local machine and it worked for him. His response to me was,
    "It's very likely that this is some sort of browser configuration error, and it's probably related to using a web-based email client, In
    Firefox, look under Options > Applications and see how the "Mailto" Content type is configured. It should probably say "Use Yahoo Mail" [it does]. I have never configured a browser to use a web-base email client, so I can't help more than that.
    Since this works fine on my computer and on my Internet site when using browsers IE 8, Opera, and Netscape but not Firefox, and I didn't do anything special for any browser to cause it to work, don't know what I could have done wrong for Firefox.
    I am using Yahoo mail.

    I'm also running FF 36.0.4 on a Win 7 machine.  Here is what I see when I "open" the map (from the server - not inside DW):
    The map area stays white with no image even after several minutes.  The cursor does change to a hand when over the area where the map should be and if I click and drag there the cursor switches to the closed hand - so it's acting like the map is there and can be moved - but just no map shows up.
    I'll run it though the validator.  Thanks!

    Email not opening on my iPad2 This is a sudden thing, email had been working fine since purchasing the device then today would not stay open,  now it will not open at all. After trying to open mail I receive a white screen for a nano second and the app closes.

    Have you tried closing the Mail app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • OpenLDAP and multiple users sharing same account

    Hello.
    I have been running an OpenLDAP directory for a while now and users' homes live on an NFS share, which causes problems when the same user is logged in to multiple computers at the same time.
    I can tell which users are logged in to which computers and then disable the accounts that are used more than once.
    Is there a way to disallow multiple logins or automatically log users out when they log in to different machines? I have 600+ users.

    Hi
    You need 2 accounts.

  • I can't download any app into my iPAD, but I have no problem downloading app into my iPhone. Using same Apple ID for both my iPAD and iPhone.

    HELP!
    I couldn't download any app into my iPAD. Puzzled by this strange condition, I tried downloading the same chosen app into my iPhone. It worked!
    I use the same Apple ID for both my iPAD and iPhone. So why is it not working for my iPad? Previously, both devices were working fine!
    I hope that somebody can help me solve this problem.

    Do the apps show as installed on the Purchased tab in the App Store app ? If they show as installed, then have you got any restrictions set on Settings > General > Restrictions (e.g. Allowed Content > Apps) that might be hiding them ?
    You could try closing the App Store app completely and then seeing if it downloads after you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e.not with the App Store app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the App Store app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    You could also try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    And try logging out, and then back in, with your iTunes account : Settings > Store
