Equivalent of WSUS "file information" in SCCM 2012 R2

In WSUS, you could r-click on an update, select "file information" and see where in WSUSCONTENT an update was actually located. This was helpful; especically if the update was stored there in an executeable format (not a cab), and you could run
the patch manually. This often works if it won't install through SCCM or WSUS. Does anyone know if it's possible to get this info through SCCM 2012 R2?

Thanks everyone and I do appreciate all the input, I understand how this works, but...
This is another case of where something that was quick, simple, and easy in WSUS has been made ridiculously complicated by MicroShaft in SCCM. The Content Info tab isn't what I want, I want to know where it physically is on my server. When you get to
the content ID you can't stretch the column to read it, you have to mouse over it and the popup with a ridculously long path disappears after a few seconds. In the show members listing you can select the unique ID but not content ID and but in the package
folders it uses content ID. Geez! Now if the content ID, with package, were selectable in the show members window it'd be easy. And to top if off, you can't tell by looking at the console which package an update is in. This is something else MS really
needs to work on. It still boggles my mind how they keep removing simple and easy functionality from programs when they come out with new versions. No wonder I couldn't figure this out on my own.
I don't pull updates from MS. I pull the from another source approved for us. They get dropped onto one of my servers. So.....
I'm going back to what Peter suggested; I'm going to look them up using "file info" in WSUS because it's far quicker and easier.

  • Cannot publish Flash Updates Verification of file signature failed for file SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2 and WSUS all on same Windows Server 2012 machine

I am attempting to distribute Adobe Flash updates using SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2, WSUS ver4 and Windows Server 2012.  Everything installs without error.  I have acquired a certificate for SCUP signing from the internal Enterprise CA.  I have
verified the signing certificate has a 1024 bit key.  I have imported the certificate into the server's Trusted Publishers and Trusted Root CA stores for the computer.  When I attempt to publish a Flash update with Full content I receive the following
    error:
2015-02-13 23:00:48.724 UTC Error Scup2011.21 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Verification of file signature failed for file:

I have redone the certificates three times with no luck.  I can import metadata, but any attempt to download content results in the verification error.
    TIA

    Hi Joyce,
This is embarrassing, I used that very post as my guide when deploying my certificate templates, but failed to change the bit length to 2048.  Thank you for being my second set of eyes.
I changed my certificate key bit length to 2048, deleted the old cert from all certificate stores, acquired the a new signing cert, verified the key length was 2048, exported the new cert to pfx and cer files, imported into my Trusted publishers
and Trusted Root Authorities stores, reconfigured SCUP to use the new pfx file, rebooted the server and attempted to re-publish the updates with the following results:
2015-02-16 13:35:44.006 UTC Error Scup2011.4 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Verification of file signature failed for file:

Is there a chance this content was already created and signed with the old cert, so installing the new cert has no effect?  In ConfigMgr software updates I see 4 Flash updates, all marked Metadata Only (because they were originally published as "Automatic."
No Flash updates in the ConfigMgr console are marked as downloaded.  I can't find any documentation on how the process of using SCUP for downloading content for an update marked Metadata Only actually works.
    Comments and suggestions welcome.

  • WSUS 4.0 and SCCM 2012 SP1 Sync Errors

SCCM 2012 SP1 is installed on a Windows 2012 Std server with the WSUS 4.0 Role installed.
All other links I have found list a 2008 R2 Server with WSUS 3.0 SP2 hence all the "fixes" revolve around hot fixes and patches/settings for WSUS 3.0 or 2008 R2 systems.
WSUS is set for port 8530/8531
SCCM SUP is set for ports 8530/8531
Both are on same machine (single site SCCM 2012 SP1 System)
What does Bad Configuration, SUPs present but no default SUP
mean and how do I fix it?

  • WSUS Keeps failing on SCCM 2012 R2

    Hello all
I am hoping I could get some help with this strange issue:
I am trying to install WSUS on my sccm server prior to the software update point. This what I have done so far:<o:p></o:p>
In server manger I select to install the WSUS role>Click next (I notice there is a feature option to install Windows internal database)
I unchecked this option because I am using my existing sql server for the WSUS instance. I cant seem to find anything that say tells me that when installing sccm 2012 on Windows Server 2012 and you are using the sql database instance for WSUS to do xyz. In
my case as mentioned before  unchecked the Windows Internal Database Feature. Then under Roles Services there are three option: WID Database, WSUS Services, Database. I chose WSUS Services and Database. On the next page I defined my source for the downloads,
then the next page DB Instance I entered the instance of the sql server which in my case is also on my sccm 2012 server VMSCCM is the name> Click Check Connection and that was successfully connected to the server. <o:p></o:p>
So here is where everything goes wrong. I then select to install everything at the confirmation page. reboot the server<o:p></o:p>
once rebooted I open server manager and there is message that says Launch post - installation configuration. I then get the following error "Post-deployment
configuration failed see log below is a image for the log located in c:\users\username\appdata\local\temp\tmpFC3D\
    <o:p></o:p>

I had similar issues with the WSUS integration with ConfigMgr 2012 R2. I also have the WSUS DB hosted on the same SQL instance where ConfigMgr 2012 installs it's database.
I found WSUS would not function correctly until I added the SYSTEM account to the WSUS Administrators group under Local Users and Groups:
    Hope this helps! :-)
    Reference Article -->
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712696.aspx
Look under Plan for WSUS Installation heading. You can also add
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account as a user for the WSUS database (SUSDB) and configure a minimum of the webService database role membership as an alternative to the above
    Hello again,
How would I add this account. When I go into th WSUS admin group on the local machines I cannot search for the this type of account. It returns nothing.
    Thanks

  • How does WSUS work when an SCCM 2012 R2 server is newly installed? Should WSUS be installed and configured on same server?

    Let me clarify.
We had a functional WSUS server delivering our updates to ours workstations. The location of the WSUS server was pushed out by Group policies.
Later, an SCCM 2012 R2 installation was installed. The original WSUS server was removed. Now WSUS type services appear to be broken.
I tried to start WSUS on the SCCM 2012 R2 server and it does not start. (I assume its not configured).
I want to get WSUS running again but am not sure how to do this safely in conjunction with our SCCM 2012 R2 installation. Do I just reinstall WSUS on the SCCM server and configure? Or is there other preferred methods?
I was not involved in SCCM's installation, so I do not know what was done.
    Geoff.

Update functionality is provided via the Software Update Point
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712312.aspx
... which requires WSUS to be installed - it basically takes control of WSUS.
Any existing group policies defining WSUS servers should be removed so that the SCCM client (which I assume is installed on computers already) can configure accordingly. Otherwise you will have group policy and SCCM client over writing one another to configure
    the update server

Looking at the newly release WSUS update KB2938066 and wondering if I need to apply it to my SCCM WSUS component. If so, what type of impact on the SCCM clients should I be aware of?
    Orange County District Attorney

As the update is about securing and hardening WSUS and also the communication with WU/MU, I would definitely apply this update.
The client-side is going to be tricky, depending on the configuration of your windows updates. Jason did a very good post about this here:

  • Remote WSUS integration with SCCM 2012

    Hi,
We are currently having WSUS already in place for Patching , but not used at all its just installed.
can remote WSUS be integrated with SCCM 2012 server which is on different server ? what is the best practice ? is it to have WSUS on same server as Primary server?
or I decommission it and install a new WSUS on same server as SCCM server.
what steps have to be taken care if remote WSUS is integrated ? any documents or steps to be taken care .
    Thanks in Advance

When you install SUPs, they automatically configure the underlying WSUS instance to sync from an upstream server based upon your ConfigMgr hierarchy.
A couple of notes here though:
    - You generally shouldn't use an existing instance of WSUS for ConfigMgr. Once integrated into ConfigMgr, WSUS should no longer manage approvals, update binary downloads, or update binary distribution as these are all handled by ConfigMgr separate from WSUS.
Using an existing WSUS instance where this was the case can be problematic at best and will cause unexpected behavior and results.
    - Clients do not choose SUPs based upon boundaries or location so using a remote SUP is typically not beneficial and in many cases will cause additional network load. The exception to this is if the SUP is within a secondary site.

  • SCCM 2012 using SUP to Windows 2012 R2 WSUS

I have the following environment setup:
    1. Windows Server 2012 R2 with SCCM 2012 SP1
    2. Windows Server 2012 R2 with WSUS installed
    3. Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2012 SP1
I am trying to connect SCCM to the WSUS server as a SUP.  I have reinstalled and configured countless times.   I've tried Sebastian's steps near the middle-end of this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/29135ae5-5f0c-49d9-b7ad-f4d5e9664a33/sccm-2012-sp1-sup-on-windows-server-2012?forum=configmanagerdeployment
I keep seeing an error in the WCM.log that the WSUS version is not supported.  The WSUS version on the Windows 2012 R2 server is 6.3.9600.16384
Permissions should not be an issue.  I have configured a Domain account and have added as a local administrator and also the WSUS Admin group.  Firewall is not an issue as ports are open.
Do I have to switch my WSUS server to 2008 R2?  Or remove it entirely and let SCCM install it as a SUP?  This is environment is entirely from scratch.

I was finally able to get this to work.  My logs were continuously showing that SCCM2012 was looking for WSUS 3.0 SP2 (+ KB).  I installed WSUS locally on the SCCM 2012 server and added a SUP there.  I was then able to successfully add the
remote WSUS server and it seems to be working now.

  • SCCM 2012 hardware Inventory

    I want my
Inventory for Printers and Scanner (USB or Network Model), network devices such as Switches and router and any devices attached to POS terminals such as PDT, Monitor, and Keyboard. Can SCCM 2012 R2 can do this.
How to configure this feature if SCCM 2012 can do
    Rgds, SSJE

ConfigMgr can run a network discovery, however the information you will get back on the objects will be limited to IP address, hostname and mac address. Check in the discover methods in the Administation workspace.
You can extend the hardware classes to gather more information on printers - some info here
    http://www.74k.org/find-printer-information-in-sccm-2012
You already get monitor details in ConfigMgr. This blog gives you some info on how to get a little extra from the EDID data. http://exar.ch/collecting-monitor-serial-numbers-with-sccm/

  • SCCM 2012 Report equivalent of WSUS Report

In the old WSUS admin console you could set your display under All Computers (and other computer groups) to show patches that were Failed/Needed/Applied. I found this EXTREMELY useful. I can not find an equivalent within SCCM 2012. Does such a report exist
and if not, how do I go about making one? Software Updates A - Compliance, Compliance 1 is sort of close but it makes you click multiple times to get one report and you have to do it for each group. In WSUS all you had to do was click once or twice and I see
no option equivalent to All Computers.

  • SCCM 2012 CU3 / WSUS - Update files are being deleted

We have been running this configuration since April of last year and haven't had any problems.
The problem is a majority of the window/security updates files in the WSUSContent folder are missing.  I have ran wsusutil /reset and it takes a day or so but it will successfully download the 80GB of missing files.  But after a few days they are
once again missing.  We do run our EPP updates through WSUS and we have no problems with those.
I have searched endlessly through the log files, I can see where it goes through and skips them due to being superseded.
Do not see any database or communication issues between SCCM and WSUS, per the wsyncmgr.log it sees the thousands of that are available from our WSUS server.
So, any suggestions as to what might be causing the update files to be deleted from the WSUSContent folder?
    We are running this on:
    Server 2012 / SCCM 2012 CU3 / WSUS for 2012

So, just to make sure I understand.  Is that we should be deploying updates from the SCCM Configmgr?
If you want to use the integrate experience, then yes.
but the problem is that a majority of updates are showing Downloaded = No when looking under All Software Updates
You need to either manually initiate the download of updates or set up an Automatic Deployment Rule (ADR). Either will cause ConfigMgr to download the updates placing them into an update package (which in turn gets placed on a DP where the clients can access
    and download the updates).
wsynclog shows the sync of the update catalog, i.e., the metadata, and not the actual update binaries.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 WSUS wsyncact error 0x8013141A

i have new servers with Server 2012 R2, SCCM 2012 R2, and SQL 2012 SP1 CU6. SCCM will not sync with WSUS. "Synchronize Software Updates" fails and no updates appear and the scheduled sync in "SUP Component Properties"\"Sync
Schedule" runs, the WSUS servers do not sync with their upstream servers. There are no errors in the WCM and WSUSCtrl logs. The wsyncmgr log has these errors:
Sync failed. Could not load file or assembly '5120 bytes loaded from wsyncact, Version 5.0.0.0, Culture=-neutral, PublicKeyToken=(alphanumeric string) or one of its dependencies. Strong name validation failed. ) Exception from HRESULT: )x8013141A). Source:

Moving the servers to an OU with no policies does not help. Setting registry entries to turn off strong name validation does not help.
I did find one post that said the ports in IIS and in SCCM need to match. My do, IIS and SCCM both have 8530/8531.
    Suggestions?
    Ben JohnsonWY

    SOLVED. FINALLY!
Do an internet search for "Keith McGuinness" and "Strong name Validation Failed (Exception from HRESULT 0x8013141A)"
You need to create these two registry keys:
    [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\StrongName\Verification\*,123adf9123]
    [HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\StrongName\Verification\*,123adf9123]
You need to do this key pair for each 0x8013141A error you have that has a unique PublicKeyToken. Note that the "*,123adf9123" is a key, not a DWORD or anything else. Also, you have to change 123adf9123 to the PublicKeyToken(s) showing in your
error messages within WSUS. You can then force a new sync by setting a sync time a couple minutes in the future with configure SUP under Administration\Sites.
Note: I did this on the site server.

  • SCCM 2012 Hardware Inventory - Custom Inventory Class ( to Include a registry information in to HW Inv)

    Hi,
I am trying to include information from a registry into SCCM HW Inventory, I would need some help in extending the HW inventory.
I have followed one of the blog which says that the change needs to be done on both Configuration.mof and also import the .mof in "Default Client Settings".
In Microsoft documentation I see an option to just import a .mof file, I did follow the option of importing the .mof into HW inventory and it was imported without any error (I used a mofcomp -check to compile the code)
    Result:
I see following errors in the InventoryAgent.log which are related to the class that I imported and the information or the fields are not yet available in the resource explorer
    =================================================
Invalid Query for class abcd: 80041017, will retry to remove invalid properties
    Collection-Retry:Ignore invalid property DeviceType

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 and MDT 2012 Task Sequence Templates, MDT File/Settings Packages

We're setting up SCCM 2012 integrated with MDT 2012 for our OSD. My main issue is finding actual reference material for the MDT task sequence templates when integrated with SCCM. The MDT documentation has a lot of information on variables and task sequences
    outside of SCCM integration.
One thing I'd love to find information on is what's actually going on during an MDT Client Task Sequence template. I found this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/645a77b2-5be6-431d-818c-57d24b1435cc/understanding-mdt-task-sequence?forum=configmgrosd but
it doesn't delve into the kind of detail I'm looking for. I can dig up information through the MDT reference material on some things, but I just can't find anything out there that actually walks you through an SCCM/MDT task sequence template. For instance,
under State Restore what is being referenced in Install Software with base variable name PACKAGES, vs Install Applications and base variable name COALESCED APPS. And, where are you supposed to put these applications? That's just a specific example, I'm hoping
to find some kind of walkthrough.
Two things I'm hazy on are the MDT packages. What exactly are the MDT Settings Package, and the MDT Files Package? What are they used for? What benefits do you get out of using them? And, how exactly do you use them? I know one of them has something to do
with customsettings.ini, but what's the point of using SCCM with MDT if you still have to muck around in the customsettings.ini file?
Either way, it seems like there are a lot of references to SCCM task sequences, and a lot of references to MDT task sequences. But, not together. Which is a bit annoying since the MDT-integrated task sequence templates are very obviously different than either
SCCM or MDT by itself. Any help would be appreciated, even just information on where to look. Maybe I'm just really bad at finding reference material for SCCM/MDT. Thanks.

When MDT integrated with SCCM, We need the following MDT components to be created:
    MDT Boot image
    MDT Toolkit Files
    MDT Settings
The MDT boot image (for example) gives you extra abilities over the standard ConfigMgr boot image such as the ability to display a HTA Refer here:
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/forum/98-frontends-and-web-services/
MDT Files once created, you will find UDIWizard_Config.Xml file in which you can start User driven Installation OSD using UDI designer.
Refer these links for better understanding:

    Thanks, Prabha G
Thanks for the quick reply. But, what about the MDT Settings Package? Also, both have a pretty big folder structure for each package. Surely it does more than just provide a couple xml and ini files? I'm not looking for anyone to spoon-feed me the information,
but at least a pointer in the right direction for finding the reference material. It seems for SCCM/MDT integration you have to go all over the place finding scraps of information to put together.
Also, any info on the SCCM/MDT task sequence templates? Thanks.
