SCCM 2012 SP1 and MDT 2012 Task Sequence Templates, MDT File/Settings Packages

We're setting up SCCM 2012 integrated with MDT 2012 for our OSD. My main issue is finding actual reference material for the MDT task sequence templates when integrated with SCCM. The MDT documentation has a lot of information on variables and task sequences
outside of SCCM integration.
One thing I'd love to find information on is what's actually going on during an MDT Client Task Sequence template. I found this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/645a77b2-5be6-431d-818c-57d24b1435cc/understanding-mdt-task-sequence?forum=configmgrosd but
it doesn't delve into the kind of detail I'm looking for. I can dig up information through the MDT reference material on some things, but I just can't find anything out there that actually walks you through an SCCM/MDT task sequence template. For instance,
under State Restore what is being referenced in Install Software with base variable name PACKAGES, vs Install Applications and base variable name COALESCED APPS. And, where are you supposed to put these applications? That's just a specific example, I'm hoping
to find some kind of walkthrough.
Two things I'm hazy on are the MDT packages. What exactly are the MDT Settings Package, and the MDT Files Package? What are they used for? What benefits do you get out of using them? And, how exactly do you use them? I know one of them has something to do
with customsettings.ini, but what's the point of using SCCM with MDT if you still have to muck around in the customsettings.ini file?
Either way, it seems like there are a lot of references to SCCM task sequences, and a lot of references to MDT task sequences. But, not together. Which is a bit annoying since the MDT-integrated task sequence templates are very obviously different than either
SCCM or MDT by itself. Any help would be appreciated, even just information on where to look. Maybe I'm just really bad at finding reference material for SCCM/MDT. Thanks.

When MDT integrated with SCCM, We need the following MDT components to be created:
MDT Boot image
MDT Toolkit Files
MDT Settings
The MDT boot image (for example) gives you extra abilities over the standard ConfigMgr boot image such as the ability to display a HTA Refer here:

MDT Files once created, you will find UDIWizard_Config.Xml file in which you can start User driven Installation OSD using UDI designer.

Thanks, Prabha G
Thanks for the quick reply. But, what about the MDT Settings Package? Also, both have a pretty big folder structure for each package. Surely it does more than just provide a couple xml and ini files? I'm not looking for anyone to spoon-feed me the information,
but at least a pointer in the right direction for finding the reference material. It seems for SCCM/MDT integration you have to go all over the place finding scraps of information to put together.
Also, any info on the SCCM/MDT task sequence templates? Thanks.

  • Distribute Customer Updates in SCCM 2012 (CU's) using a Task Sequence

I want to utilize a Task Sequence to Distribute Customer Updates to SCCM 2012 Clients.  I currently have 2 collections for pre-CU 4 clients, one for 32 Bit Clients (x86) , one for 64 Bit Clients (x64).  I have a package pertinent to each collection
which I use to distribute the updates.
However, instead of segregating them by collection, I would like to have one big collection, and have the Task Sequence sort out which package should load on which collection.
I've tried using the RUN COMMAND LINE, and INSTALL PACKAGE options to no avail.  Is there a way to utilize a Task Sequence for this undertaking, or should I just continue the way I'm currently doing it.
    Thanks ,
    Dan

You can set Collection Variables for the two collections, then add running condition in the Task Sequence Steps for corresponding collections.

  • Deploy Java Updates using SCCM 2012 SP1 and SCUP 2011

What is the best way to deploy Java updates using sccm 2012 SP1 and SCUP 2011?

    I didn´t find Kent´s blog useful when talking about Java. I can deploy Adobe products fine, but I have to import Java manually because not having Shavlik certificate. So with that said, I have the fallowing problem;
I have full offline installer unpacked, .msi file and Data1.cab. When I´m importing these binaries to SCUP, I only can point to .msi. Doing that, installation fails in client side fails because of lack of data1.cab fine, which is the main file.
Should I use some other downloaded files of Java? I couldn´t find any Java-update-file only type of files to download.

I am installing SCCM 2012 SP1 with SQL 2012 SP1 in Stand-Alone mode. But I am receiving error:"the service broker endpoint cannot listen on port 4022 because it is in use by another process"
I saw in SQL (SQL Server Configuration Manager) that I am using port 4022 without dinamic port.

  • Exe compiled in LV 2010 crash - Since installing LV 2012 SP1 and 2013

Exe compiled in LV 2010 crash - Since installing LV 2012 SP1 and 2013
Double-click on exe icons (LV apps written in 2010), the application icon appears on taskbar then disappears (program crashes).
I have tried re-installing the exe's but doesn't fix.  Is there an issue with the new LV RTE's?
    Any suggestions for fix???

    battler,
Have you tried making your exe into a debuggable exe? You can do this through your project build specification Advanced>>Enable Debugging. Make sure you check the box for Wait for Debugger. This means when you launch your exe you can connect to it from LabVIEW and see your block diagrams, use highlight execution, probles etc. It is quite possible that you are running into an error case while your program is loading and it is exiting.

  • Setting the Administrator password on a MDT Server Task Sequence

I've created a SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 MDT 2013 task sequence using the Server Task Sequence template to deploy Windows Server 2012 R2. I'm not doing a capture but just using the .wim file from the source DVD. The problem I'm having is setting the local admin
password in Apply Windows Settings. It's not taking the password that I've assigned it. I'm not sure how many others have created a Server Task Sequence or not but I'd be interested to know how to get around this problem.

Sorry, in Apply Windows Settings I've selected "Enable the account and specify the local administrator password" and entered the local password there. When the system is imaged and I try to log in locally it gives the the error "The user name
or password is incorrect. Try again." error.
I have checked that the local administrator account is enabled so I know it's not that and I've tried multiple times. I even took one of our client task sequences that I know works, made a copy of it, and added the Server 2012 R2 install to it and get the
    same result.

  • Issue while Upgrading vmm 2012 sp1 to vmm 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are trying to upgrade the vmm setup to 2012 r2 ,we retained the existing vmm database
While upgrading to vmm 2012 r2 , got the below warning message:
"The VMM database contains one or more services in a failed state. Upgrading to VMM in System Center 2012 R2 is not recommended. Retry the upgrade after you have reinstalled VMM for System Center 2012 SP1 and repaired or removed these services. Click
    Cancel to exit the upgrade."
Tried to find the bug using the vmm logs file like
    errlevel
    setupwizard
    vmmserver
In erlevel log, the entry was "0".
Any idea what the issue is????

    1. You just need CU3 - these are cumulative
    2. Sure, you can take a temporary snapshot. You need to take a SQL backup also.
    3. Don't forget to test the upgrade process on a copy of your site database (use /testdbupgrade)
    This guide may help you

  • Upgarde SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR5

    Upgrade SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR5
We are planning to upgrade our SCOM2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR5. One of our MS accidentally upgraded to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 already. I need to know if I can use the below to upgrade all of them to UR5
    http://www.ms-opsmgr.eu/?p=48
Is this the correct path or is there any other documentation or precaution , I need to take

I used this link to update all my SCOM instances to SCOM 2012 SP1 CU5 and it worked fine for me.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2904680
Since the these updates are cumulative, I guess one MS already CU4 should not affect the SCOM functionality. But still lets wait for other experts to comment on this.

  • Task Sequence fails on "Apply Driver Package" when PXE-booting but not with bootable media

I have an issue where my Task Sequence fails during 'Apply Driver Package' when PXE-booting but works ok when booting from CD or USB-stick. It fails withe error code 0x80070002 and when pressing F8 and checking the ipconfig there's a 169.254.x.x address.
Somehow it looses it's real ip during the process.
    I'm grateful for any advice!

Please enable verbose logging for Task sequence, then upload the smsts.log to Skydrive.
0x80070002 error is too generic, which cannot be used to determine the cause.

    Hi,
Please see titlte. When I try to apply an CM captured WIM via an MDT task sequence, it starts, applies but stops after 15 minutes.
Logfile says it "cannot find the file specified".
Full error: "Installation of image 3 in package mypackage failed to complete. . The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002, Source: Windows).
