ER unable to compile using javac with java 1.3.1 library (JDEV 10.1.3.0.4)
Hi !
When I try to compile in JDev with javac and the java 1.3.1 library, I get the following error :
Error: javac: invalid flag: -source
The command line generated by JDev looks like :
C:\jdk1.3.1_03\bin\javac.exe -J-mx512m -verbose -deprecation -source 1.3 -target 1.3 -encoding Cp1252 -g -classpath [...] -sourcepath [...] -d [...] @C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\javac54193.tmp
It seems that -source and -target flags do not exist in this version of javac.
But it does not seem possible to remove these flags generated by JDev, so I'm unable to compile with javac 1.3.1 and JDev.
So i'm looking for :
- A workaround to prevent JDev from adding the -source and -target flags.
- A future release of JDev where you could disable these flags, or, much better, where JDev automatically disables these flags when it detects a 1.3.1 library (there may be other incompatible flags I did not mention).
Thank you for your answers :)
Hi,
when you open the project properties and choose the compiler option to tht the compiler to "javac" and then the "source" and "target" to 1.3, wouldn't this compile it for Java 3? I don't think that it is necesary to use JDK 1.3 for compiling the sources
Cross-Compilation Options
By default, classes are compiled against the bootstrap and extension classes of the platform that javac shipped with. But javac also supports cross-compiling, where classes are compiled against a bootstrap and extension classes of a different Java platform implementation. It is important to use -bootclasspath and -extdirs when cross-compiling; see Cross-Compilation Example below.
-target version
Generate class files that will work on VMs with the specified version. The default is to generate class files to be compatible with the 1.2 VM in the Java 2 SDK. The versions supported by javac in the Java 2 SDK are:
1.1
Ensure that generated class files will be compatible with 1.1 and VMs in the Java 2 SDK.
1.2
Generate class files that will run on VMs in the Java 2 SDK, v 1.2 and later, but will not run on 1.1 VMs. This is the default.
1.3
Generate class files that will run on VMs in the Java 2 SDK, v 1.3 and later, but will not run on 1.1 or 1.2 VMs.
1.4
Generate class files that are compatible only with 1.4 VMs.

ThanksIs it possible that GMail only allows access to untagged emails via POP3? Or only to emails from the last x days?
POP3 is the older email retrieval protocol (IMAP4 is the more current one) and only has very limited support for folders (or anything but a single inbox, really). It's quite common that POP3 only allows access to a subset of all emails stored by a provider. -
Using Xerces with Java Web Start
I read that there might be problems using xerces with Java Web Start, because JWS uses Sun's implementation of JAXP internally. My application needs Xerces and I think I am able to get it working using the following settings in the JNLP file:
<resources>
<j2se version="1.3"/>
<jar href="xerces-1.4.3.jar"/>
<property name="javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory" value="org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl"/>
</resources>Hi,
I have packaged the xerces jar into my code jar and it does work. HTH

You can wirte the following code to get the logged in user's ID
try {
IWDClientUser wdClientUser = WDClientUser.getCurrentUser();
IUser sapUser = wdClientUser.getSAPUser();
IUserAccount[] acct = sapUser.getUserAccounts();
String str = acct[0].getDisplayName();

Runtime.exec() fails to run "javac" with "*.java" as arguments
Hello,
I am observing that Runtime.exec() consistently fails to execute "javac" when the Java files to be compiled are specified as "*.java". It fails with the following error:
javac: file not found: /home/engine931/*.java
Usage: javac <options> <source files>
The same command used for Runtime.exec() runs fine from a the command shell. Is this is known problem with the Runtime class on UNIX, because it works fine on Windows.
Any advise is appreciated.
Thanks,
RanjitYour shell is expanding the command when you run javac from the shell. Try constructing your Runtime parameters so that your shell is executed, which then executes javac.
The specific behavior is entirely dependent on the command interpreter that's used. -
Hello all
I have successfully compiled files using javac. The path is set, so I just need to open a command prompt and simply type javac AddServerImpl.java and it compiles with out errors. I do not have to specify any path at all.
But when I try to compile using rmic, that is where I have the problem. It simply says "error: Class AddServerImpl$.java not found. 1 error."
I simply don't understand what the problem is. If the path can work with javac <name>, why can't it work with rmic.
I have even tried copying the java files, to where the rmic file is present and then tried running rmic AddServerImpl. But it still does not work. I have even included the following line under the environment variables "setclass path = %classpath%c:\rmiproject\"
A bit desparate of ideas.
ThankyouIf the path can work with javac <name>, why can't it work with rmic.Because javac takes a path to a filename. rmic takes a package-qualified classname. Different strokes.

Using jce with java 1.3.1
Hi,
I use Java 1.3.1, jce 1.2.2 and eclipse.
To include the packet added it with Project/Properties/ Add External JARs but when I compile the program I get the following errors:
compile:

Is it necessary to expand the classpath in the build.xml file or something like this?
ThanksI know its too late to answer your query... but just thought if not you there might be other people who may search solution for the same error.
Java 1.3 does not contains these packages... these are included in java 1.4 on wards.
If you want to do some encryption / decryption with java 1.3 i can provide you a link that might be of some help.

Hello all:
When I am in my file folder on my university of linux account, which contaning all the neccessary files(they are all in default package, which means that they are not in any sub folder of this folder) to run my program, I use the command(xml.jar is a jar file in the folder)
javac -classpath xml.jar Main.java
to compile my project, it says that it cannot file
symbol(the symbol is the name of a class I wrote in the current folder, so I do not why this error occurs?).
But when I was using the command
javac -classpath xml.jar *.java
No error was output, it compile successfully.
However, when I was using the command
java -classpath xml.jar Main < temp.input
It give me the following error message:

I was so confused about it, because my program runs successful using eclipse. I do not know what is wrong with it? Any advice will helpBut I think it is in linux based system. And when it give me the following error message

Should I have Emacs installed in the same directory as jdk in order to compile with Java script. The example in my book shows a menu bar with the following options: File, Edit, Options, Buffers, Tools, Classes, JDE, Java, Senator, Jdb and Help. The menu bar for the Emacs I downloaded only displays: File, Edit, Options, Buffers, Tools and Help.
Does it take a long time to learn Emacs if I were to go through the Help menu?

How long do you think it would take me to learnEmacs
if I'm a new programmer?Too long to make it worthwhile. Unless you have a
compelling reason to want to learn emacs then stick
with a simple editor. You will have enough problems
learning Java without having to climb the precarious
emacs ladder to get to your Java.
Assuming you will be developing on Windows (and most
people do) then use NotePad or WordPad.
Of course you could always use JEdit (Google will
find it). JEdit will run on any platform that has a
JRE installed and is intuitive to use.How do I compile from WordPad? I wrote the simple program in WordPad like this:
public class FirstSample
public static void main(String[] args)
System.out.println("We will not use 'Hello, World!'");
I saved the text file as FirstSample.java.
Now what do I do? Type in "java FirstSample" in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_02\ directory?? -
Lookup in Xi using XSLT with Java enhancement "Error"
Hi Experts,
I need your advice urgently.
I have done message mapping using XSLT mapping with Java enhancement.
I included the code for SAP DB connection to read from the table.
I imported both the sapdbc-7_6_00_30_5567 Driver.jar and my custom jar into imported archives.
I used the java functions in my XSLT to get the lookup value.
The code was working correctly in NWDS, but when i tried to execute the scenario, it gave me 'SYSTEM ERROR'

Thanks in advance,
MonaHi,
Thanks to all who replied.
I solved the problem.
I was calling the java method from XSLT without passing any arguement.
I realised that the java methods called from XSLT should always have input parameter. So i changed the javamethod call from
public static String getCurrentRecNo() to public static String getCurrentRecNo(Object test)
and it worked.
Can anybody explain me why java methods called from XSLT should always have an input arguement.
Thanks

How to use connec with java 6.0 ?
I often use the function below to connect Database:
public Connection getConnection(){
try{
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
conn=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:EmployeeManagerDB","sa","sa");
System.out.println("Get connection successfully!");
catch(Exception e){
System.out.println("Error: " +e);
return conn;
but now, with Java 6.0 . don't use "class.forName....for method"
can you tell me how to use it??
thanks !but now, with Java 6.0 . don't use
"class.forName....for method" Where did you get this idea?He's perfectly correct. JDBC 4.0 takes advantage of the Java SE Service Provide mechanism in Java 6 to do away with the requirement. So, if you have Java 6 and a JDBC 4 driver (it's a mandatory feature) you simply omit the forName() call.
The only problem is that there aren't that many complete JDBC 4 drivers out there yet. -
Help/Tutorial on Using Xpress with Java
Hi forum:
Can anyone point me to a tutorial or article on how to use Java method from Xpress (in NetBeans).
I have created a java class in the 'Custom Java' folder for the IDM prodject in Netbeans - I am not terribly sure what next steps to take.Yes..The sun documentation does seem to be written in such a way to try and impress rather than to inform.
But...
XPRESS and Java, you only got one or two options.. as the previous guy said.. look at the Workflow, Forms and Views docu. There is a section called Java and Javascript expressions in the XPRESS language section.
I guess the <invoke> is the most commonly used XPRESS command with java. You invoke a method of a class.
The trick is figuring out how to introduce your new class into the IDM environment so that your XPRESS can find it.. and then call the method via the XPRESS invoke.
Typically, you create a .jar of your custom classes, drop this .jar into $WSHOME/WEB-INF/lib and restart your App server.
Do a search of the forums for "custom classes"
I totally agree with you that SUN documentation is a perfect example of the 80/20 law. -
Hi, I am writing a database program, and I decided I should try and use MySQL since many people have told me it is the best way to make a database. Does the java version that Sun provide come with the api to create mysql databases?
Also, I would like to know of a good tutorial that teaches MySQL with java.Hi, I am writing a database program, and I decided I

You are more than a bit confused so please stop here until you understand the following.
JDBC is the API for communicating with relational databases in Java. It is not a database in and of itself but it can communicate with any database that provides JDBC API access in the form of a JDBC driver.
Also, I would like to know of a good tutorial that

Using headless with JAVA 1.3
i have wrote a program which draws images, acording to its input.
when working with java 1.4, one can set the system property "java.awt.headless" to "true", and by that creating images in offscreens programs.
I am using a server which runs on Free BSD, and java 1.3 and it is not working there.
what else can i do to make it work?Maybe this will help you:

For those using JDK 1.3 and before, there's the Pure Java AWT (PJA)
Toolkit, available from eTeks. It's a headless Java server that's
configured
in much the same way as the 1.4 Sun version, via a set of -D property
flags.
You'll need to download the jars, put them in your classpath, and then
set the following flags:
Dawt.toolkit=com.eteks.awt.PJAToolkit
Djava.awt.graphicsenv=com.eteks.java2d.PJAGraphicsEnvironment
With the IBM JDK, you may find you need the following properties where,
lib/pja is the location of your PJA jars:
Djava.awt.fonts=$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/fonts
Djava2d.font.usePlatformFont=false
Duser.home=lib/pja
You can download the PJA Toolkit from eTeks' Web site.
