Erase partition; reinstall osx from itunes

When I get the the download screen from the repair menu i click install osx, then I'm asked to connect to iTunes. I enter my password correctly then nothing happens. I hit install again and I'm prompted to enter my password again and nothing happens. I hit install again. Etc etc...
Any ideas? This is ridic.
Long story short: I tried repairing the only partition I have (I've never messed with them before as I'm not computer saavy) but it was unrepairable. I was asked to reformat so I erased the partition. After his I tried reinstalling.
There was nothing wrong with my comp in the beginning I just had problems getting postregsql to download and I have to have that for an application I run. I have no data on my comp that in worried about losing so I figured why not fresh install.

Ok, I unsderstand a bit better. What I don't understand is, that you talk about iTunes: a re-install or repair of the OSX has nothing to do with iTunes??????.
There are 2 methods of a re-install of the OSX:
- a fresh install: this means you format the main disk (and loose everything on it) and install the OSX completely new.
- a new install of the OSX where all your data will remain in place (like an update).
Remember: both have nothing to do with iTunes!
For the fresh install:
Download the OSX, before installing make a bootable stick with the OSX on it. Then from the "Recovery Partition" start DiskUtility and format your main disk. Then insert the bootable stick and install the OSX on your freshly formatted disk.
For the Recovery of the OSX:
Restart while holding the CMD+R keys, this will start your "Recovery Disk", choose Recover OSX, this will renew your OSX installation, but leaves all your data alone.
Of course you have TM or other backups, when something should go wrong.
Did I analyze your request correctly, or did I miss something?.

  • Cannot erase and reinstall osx

I am attempting to erase and reinstall osx 10.8.5 on my imac with no success.  I have tried booting up with command option R and using disk utilities.   The problem is that the erase or the partition functions are greyed out. Any suggestions?

Download Lion from the Mac App Store, not the iTunes App Store which is only for iOS apps.

  • Trying to Erase and Reinstall Yosemite from install drive

I am trying to prepare my 2009 Mac Pro for selling. I erased the startup disk from disk utility, and now I'm trying to reinstall Yosemite using an install file on an external hard drive. Every time I boot to the external hard drive, choose "Install OS X" from the utilities menu, and then wait for the "Preparing to install" screen. After preparing to install, however, I get the error message:
"An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again."
I had a working Yosemite install on this machine before erasing the disk, so I know it can handle it. The external hard drive is a LaCie Rugged connected via Firewire 800 (I also tried via USB). My Mac Pro also has two additional 1TB drives in bays 2 and 3 (both erased and empty).
    MY SYSTEM
    Early 2009 Mac Pro
    2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    16GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB

UPDATE: I just reset the NVRAM, and that seems to have solved the problem.

  • App hung on "waiting"; during update, I lost my wifi connection; now cannot delete to reinstall (no X), syc does not help; itunes store says it is installed and I cannot reinstall; deleting from itunes and synching does not remove "hung app"; HELP

App hung on "waiting"; during update, I lost my wifi connection and the app hung; now cannot delete to reinstall (no X), synching does not help; itunes app store says it is installed, therefore I cannot reinstall; deleting the app from itunes and synching does not reinstall the app on the ipod; the app developers have not helped and told me to check with Apple (which I am doing, since I am past my 90 day tech support). Hoping someone can help with this hung "waiting' app problem.

    - First try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next download the app on the computer and try to sync.
    - Last, restore from backup.

  • Erase iPhone 3 data from iTunes without erasing 4S dataa

How do I erase the contact, calendar, and iPod data from my old iPhone 3G? I have a Mac. My data is on iTunes. It is on both my old phone and my new iPhone 4S? I am trying to erase the data from the old phone without erasing it from iTunes or from my new phone so that I can pass it on. In the old phone under settings - general. I selected "reset" but it wants me to sync with my computer. I am afraid to. Help

If you plug in to your old computer, you can select your device and click Restore. When it is done, you want to select "Set up as new iPhone."

  • Erase and reinstall OSX server (Mountain Lion)

I would like to do an erase and reinstall of my Mac Mini Server (Fall of 2011) that now has Mountain Lion on it.  I have data on the second drive but would like to erase the primary drive and reinstall mountain Lion and mountain Lion server.
Is this possible, and if so would you point me in right direction for instructions to do this?
    Thank you

Just hold down Command-R during startup,
From there use disk utility to erase the primary drive then use the reinstall option to load up a fresh copy.

  • Wipe laptop and reinstall OSX from app store??

I bought OSX Mountain Lion from the app store and now want to wipe my laptop and install the OS clean.
I have alot of random stuff on my computer that i do not want anymore. Is there some way to do this? or do i have to have a physical DVD?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Lion and Mountain Lion have got OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 This allows you to reinstall OS X without a disc.
To start from OS X Recovery, hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting. After doing it, follow these steps:
    1. Open Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    2. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
OS X Recovery will download OS X from Apple. As you purchased Mountain Lion before, you can download it as many times as you want free of charge

I bought a 160gb iPod classic every time I try to put music on my external hard drive only copy up to 1500 songs and then freezes Itune me and I can not close, asks me to restore the ipod as factory, and do nothing . I try to close the program and itune will not let me, I try to turn off the computer and I can not shut, I looked to see if the iPod disk errors and says it's okay. I restored it about 8 times and I've put music and videos but I always delete everything. I crushed and Selection Menu to enter diagnostic sistemade or ipod and I put the manual test where I enter the IO and q tells me everything is fine. I have already given several Format directly from the Windows 7 and anything either, I always delete everything from passing over 1300 songs and I congeal whole team. No longer have to think of this company because Apple gives no solution has this issue.
iPod classic, Windows 7, ME BORRA TODO Y SE CONGELA

  • Forgot my password, trying to reinstall OSX from disc

I have forgoten/lost my administrative password for my Macbook running latest version of Leopard with bootcamp. I have tried not only a osx leopard disc purchased bu the install discs that came with the computer to either use the utility to reset the password or just wipe my system clean and start over.
Every time I try to boot from the disc by holding "c" on startup is just continuoulsey restarts itself... can't get to the install utlity

No it shouldn't be. Try {starting up in Safe Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455] and see if you manage to fully start up. If this works there is a chance that restarting normally after this may resolve the issue.
You should then use Disk Utility to check your hard disk for any issues. See [this|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417] document for details.

  • Wiping hardraive and reinstalling osx from disk

So.. I know there's a few of these threads around, but I can't find one that answers my problem directly...
I've tried to wipe my harddisk and reinstal my os (snow leopard) from the install disk that i got with my macbook pro when i bought it. I manually backed up, started up holnd cmd-R and wiped the harddisk from disk utility. Then tried to run the instal software and when you get to the select a disk to install on screen, i have only one option (my single inbuilt harddrive), however it says that i can't select that hardrive, doesn't offer an explantion why.. Any ideas?
One thought i had was that it might be due to the fact maveric is still on that drive? It's not installed but i can still install from it if i want and i can see it in disk utility, though i don't seem to be able to anything to it there. Do i need to delete it some how before snow leopard will install? If so, how? Obviously i need to be fairly sure that'll work or else i'll end up with no os at all...
Thanks in advance, let me know if i've left out any crutial info..

    http://www.macworld.com/2001/10/bc/howtoimac/
is an article describing the process. It's not that hard, IMHO. If you've never done it before, plan on maybe an hour. A magnetic tipped phillips screwdriver will be the most important tool, as the little buggers can easily fall into the case if you're not careful. And there will be a fairly disconcerting crack when you open the iMac. Just make sure to follow the directions for a slot-loading iMac if that's what you have, the tray loading directions are listed first.
