Erratic Behavor When Using Encoders in Move a Fixed Distance VI

I have constructed a VI to have a FTC Robot drive in a Square using the Move a Fixed Distance VI in the Competition Toolkit for Labview 2012. Sometimes the VI works great, then sometime it appears to skips over code or just stop. I am using the Move a Fixed Distance VI followed by a Stop Motors for each segment (series of move straights then 90 deg turns). Also, I am using a Wait Time greater than the time required to move the fixed distance. The same Erractic behavior occurs whether I down the VI to the NXT brick or run VI from the NXT Brick. The Brick is using the lastest Firmware for Labview 2012
I have had problems with erratic behavior in the Move a Fixed Distance VI for years. I have NO such problems with Robot C move fixed distance routines.

I'm sorry you are seeing erratic behavior with Move Fixed Distance. What type of motors are you using? Have you noticed anything more specific about the type of behavior you are seeing, e.g. the motor does not move the complete distance, or the motor does not stop after the specified distance?
If you can come up with a VI which isolates the problem, even if it works 90% of the time, that would be really helpful for me to reproduce on my end.

How to get multiple Move A Fixed Distance vi's to work?

OK, I've seen other postings where people didn't have luck with this vi. Hopefully, the debugging I'm working on will help the community in figuring it out. I'm looking start with a really simple FTC autonomous prototype to drive (straight) down the ramp, turn (towards a goal - hopefully we'll have a sensor too), deploy goal grabber, then drive backwards a specific distance and orientation (to the parking zone), then spin to deposit the goal. So, the first challenge was drive forward, turn and back up. This should've been a 30-minute exercise. We probably have dozens of man-hours invested so far - with no luck.
So, I've included a series of vi's:
3movedistance_test doesn't work: it only goes forward; in fact it doesn't go exactly 360 degrees
ditto on 2movedistance_test
1movedistance_test seems to work fine
when I dial down the power on 1movedistance_test to 20%, one motor moves ~360, the other moves ~120
[oops - gonna have to upload the rest of the files separately - only 3 attachments allowed]
3movedistance_parallel - I can dial down the speed to 1, and both motors turn exactly 180 - it looks like they're taking turns though, they individually index about 30 times
That's phase 1 of the research.
Phase 2 was to get the sledgehammer out and skip the Move A Fixed Distance vi, and use the Wait For Rotation vi with a standard Move Motors vi. MoveDistanceJC has the following characteristics:
at 80% power, Motor B goes ~2-1/4 revolutions (obviously greater than 0.1") and Motor C goes 2-1/3 revolutions
at 50% power, Motor B goes ~1-1/4 revolutions and Motor C goes 1-1/3 revolutions
at 20% power, Motor B goes ~1/3 revolution and Motor C also goes 1/3 revolutions

No sound when using Airplay for Movies on Apple TV

For reasons unknow, when I try to stream full length movies (Lion King and Nemo bought from iTunes) from my iPhone or Macbook Pro using Airplay, there is no sound. When I stream smaller movies, like Boundin' the Pixar Short, there is no problem.
Side note 1: Why do purchased movies not show up like purchased TV shows on Apple TV? I feel like I shouldn't have to use Airplay for movies if I don't need to use it for TV shows I buy.
Side note 2: For some Netflix movies played directly from Apple TV there is no sound. Other movies work fine and the movies that work or don't work seem to change day to day.

Apple has not negotiated the rights to allow this is the assumed reason.
We can't even play Purchased music or TV Shows from the cloud in UK.

Noise when using isight in Movie 08

I have substantial noise when using iSight in iMovie '08. Please see my example on Youtube Mirno63 labeled test. I would like to have my daughter practice for a recital using isight but the noise is so loud. Please help!

If I am listening to the correct YouTube video, I think that at least some of the sound that is troubling you is background noise. Sookyas may also be right that feedback is causing your problem.
In either case, using an external Mic that is positioned closer to the voice you want to record than to your MBP should help you.
I use this Logitech USB Desktop Microphone when I want to get sound from a person who is not close to my Mac. My Logitech does a GREAT job on spoken words. Although it is not advertised as (and does not cost as much as) a music microphone, it gives better sound recordings than my laptop's built-in mic unless the voice being recorded is very close to my laptop. It certainly meets my singing and other amateur music needs. However, other brands should work, too.
Unless you can buy one from a trusted retailer who will give you full exchange or refund credit if a new microphone does not correct your problems, I suggest you take your wonderfully portable MBP with you when you shop, add any needed driver, and test the mic before you buy.
Here is how I would perform the test.
• Leave "AudioMide" settings at default. (You should not need to change these settings when using iMovie except in extraordinary circumstances.)
• Set your  > System Preferences > Sound > Input to use the new mic as your input device.
• Extend the microphone's cable away from your MBP, and start recording.
• Leave the computer where it is and physically move near the mic so your mouth is approximately half a meter from mic.
• Sing or speak in a normal voice for a few seconds and then stop the recording.
• Now change your System Sound Input preference back to user you MBP's built-in mic again.
• Start recording again.
• Leaving the MBP in place, move back to the same place where you tested the external mic.
• Sing or speak again at about the same volume you did when using the external mic.
• Stop the recording, and play back both recording so you can compare them.
This test should let you easily determine whether the external mic meets your needs.
If the noise is still there when recording from the external mic, there is most likely something wrong with your Mac. Contact Apple or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider.

15" MBP erratic pointer when using trackpad

Just in the last few mins. and seemingly without changing anything my pointer has gotten very erratic while using the trackpad. It will jump around when zeroing in on something to click and even takes a few taps to register. I can even hold my finger in one place on the pad and not move it but yet the pointer will dance around sometimes inches apart. Any idea what could cause this? I've restarted, hard restarted and reset the PRAM. Nothing has helped so far. Thanks.

Scale does not work for the target movie when using a poster movie

Hello,
I have various size video files that I want to scale to a certain display area on a website. I'm using the scale="tofit" attribute. It works fine for the poster movie but when the target movie is loaded it does not scale! Is this a QT bug or by design? Is there a workaround to this or am I doing things wrong? All help is greatly appreciated.

Dell inspiron 8200 Windows XP Pro

After quite a lot of Googling I found what I was looking for. This solution was quite hard to find. I found it on http://blog.deconcept.com/2005/01/26/web-standards-compliant-javascript-quicktim e-detect-and-embed (I'm using Geoff Stearns's script to embed my movies, it works great!)

Reader 9.3 locks up when using icons to move within doc & print

I've run into an issue with Adobe Reader 9.3.2 under XP SP3 all updated...
When I try and read a PDF and move through the documents using the various icons at the top menu - such as the arrows or printing icon - it hangs up. If I use the slider bar on the right to move through the document I don't have an issue. But consistently clicking on any of the icons seems to hang/lock up any PDF.
I've uninstalled all of the adobe products and reinstalled everything from adobe site and still have this issue with the icons.
This is on an HP Probook with a touchpad and a ms wireless mouse. Stumped. So is IT.

Beeping noise when using script to move to new field

I have a PDF form with multiple text fields and check boxes. For each of the text fields I have a custom keystroke script that sets the focus to the next text field if the Enter key is pressed or if the field is full. Below is part of that script:

The script is working (the focus changes to the next text field if Enter is pressed or if the field is full), however when the cursor moves to the next field there is a beeping noise. It's pretty irritating... is there a way to suppress that?

So you want to auto-tab to the next field if Enter is pressed or when the field is full? First of all, you have to set the field as multi-line, otherwise Enter would just commit the value and you won't be able to differentiate it from other characters and catch it. If you do that what you can use is the change property of the event object, like so:

     event.rc = false; // reject the Enter value
     this.getField("NextField").setFocus(); // tab to the next field
} else if (event.fieldFull) { // If the field is full
     this.getField("NextField").setFocus(); // tab to the next field
Of course, you'll have to set a maximum allowed number of characters for the fieldFull property to become relevant.

When using webcam for movie making no sound heard

i am trying to use the web cam to make a movie, but when i play back what i rerecorded no sound heard at all
i checked the mic settings and it seems working OK. if you have any ideas it would be greatly appreciated

Cannot show dock or use hot corners when using CGEvent to move mouse cursor

I have the following code:

This code allows me to move the cursor to a new set of coordinates mouseX and mouseY. It works fine and I can move the cursor around, but even if the cursor is moved to where the hidden dock is the dock does not appear. Also even if the cursor is move to one of the corners say (0, 0), the hot corner action I have set is not invoked. I am confused as to why this is so because I thought that things like hot corners use the cursor's position to see if it need to do something. Any advice is appreciated.

The university requires all computers to have anti-virus software and recently switched to Sophos from Symantec, in July I believe. That was a new software install. Since it just works in the background and I never actually access it, I had forgotten about that. I hope that is not the problem, as I am required to have antivirus software.
And no I have not created a new user to log in. It is erratic enough that I don't know how long would have to be on to see if the problem recreated itself. Sometimes it seems like just minutes after I start the computer up and sometimes hours. Right now it is still working since starting this morning.

My iPad has started running slow when using YouTube how do I fix it?

When I play vids on YouTube it's started taking forever to buffer! Never had this problem before but tried few things like restoring iPad, turning it on and off and turning my Internet modem off. Can anyone help pleas?

I also have this problem and have search the support boards at apple and other websites. I have tried the suggestions and nothing so far has helped...changed DNS, tried YouTube using safari, rebooted my iPad..killed all apps, etc. I use iPad at my library and Internet here is great. I can't make changes to their routers as some sites have suggested. Funny thing is I end up using my Samsung Galaxy SII to view these same YouTube videos and it's lightening fast at my library...a little slower using my data plan but not by much. Wish I could use my iPad as the screen detail would be better but too slow, lags to the point of not even being fun. This is my 1st apple product and it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth....from what I see posted on the boards this is a BIG problem for many, many users...can't even believe apple doesn't know about it and have an official solution!

ORA-03106 when using OCIStmtFetch! How to fix it?

ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error.
The version of oracle is 10gR2 and the client and server in the same computer( for developing ) with windows xp sp2. My program use OCIStmtPrepare2 to enable statement cache.
The preparing and executing is ok, oci returns successfully:
OCIStmtPrepare2(svchp, (OCIStmt**)&stmthp, errhp, (OraText*)query.c_str(), (ub4)query.length(), (OraText*)0, (ub4)0, (ub4)OCI_NTV_SYNTAX, (ub4)OCI_DEFAULT);
OCIStmtExecute(svchp, stmthp, errhp, (ub4)0, (ub4)0, (OCISnapshot*)0, (OCISnapshot*)0, (ub4)OCI_DEFAULT);
The OCIStmtFetch call always failed after several successful calls. Sometimes the first 25 or more OCIStmtFetch calls success, but the next one will faild with ORA-03106, and after this, all oci calls will be failed with this error.
I see the number of threads in oracle process, it always be 22, never changed.
Why this error occurs? Does my program has any fault for this error, or it only matter the oracle configuration?

Because I am writing a library that wraps OCI, so the code is not continuous. I do these things in program:
1. Make a oci session to do some common thing, such create tables and so on, and make other 2 new connection to same oracle server( the completely new, the 2 OCIEnv is allocated), and use these new connections( begin new session with same user/password) to write large amount data to a table in 2 threads. The table contain 6 columns, the first 5 are number(*,0), and the last one is blob.
2. In the data writing mentiond above, the first oci connection is idle, and do nothing. Other 2 connections in threads is busy to write data using "insert" to the same table. I am working in windows xp sp2 and with Oracle 10gR2. When inserting data, I using OCIStmtPrepare2, OCIBindByPos and OCIStmtRelease.
3. It cost about 2 minutes to complete the data writing. The 2 connections is closed after this. I can see the number of threads of Oracle server is decreased.
4. Then I commit the transcation, try to read the data just wrote. I also use OCIStmtPrepare2, and bind all columns of that table. But I do not use lob locator. I bind unsigned char* buffer directly to that lob column, using SQLT_BIN type constant. These operations also in a new thread, not in the main thread of program.
5. So, the error ORA-03106 some times occurs. The reading mentiond above is execute for many times, about 2 seconds one time. And the first 15~30 times successed, but then in one reading, I complete the OCIStmtExecute, but failed in OCIStmtFetch with this error.

Problem saving a report when using rpad in query for fixed-width

I'm using 9.0.4 and trying to make and save a report that will eventually produce a fixed-width text output (as opposed to delimited).
I keep getting: REP-1051 Unable to save document to file mypath/filename
REP-1070 Error while opening or saving a document - Non-specific file error occurred.
My sql query is a large string that RPADs everything and concatenates into one very long string (about 600 characters). The report runs fine while I'm working on it, but I can't save it. I finally pared the query down to a small fraction of what I need, and it did save, but as soon as I started adding back to the query, it failed again.
Does anyone know how to work around this? I don't have any flexibility with my version of Reports, as the client will not update their version.

Also, make sure there aren't any programs running in the background or launched sitting idle.
Make sure there aren't any startup items in your login that you really do not need running in the background.
Background apps and other apps in your dock sitting idle take up CPU cycles.
Also, 4 GBs of RAM is really, truly not enough RAM
With every new version of OS X, you need more CPU, GPU and RAM power.
4 GBs is fine for running the operating system, alone, but not enough RAMmfor running both the OS and something as CPU, GPU and RAM intensive like most high end CAD and graphics/drawing programs.
Are you running Autocad version for Mac or running a version of Windows on the Mac.
The latter would make your Mac even slower with only 4 GBs of RAM.
You need a lot more RAM!
Consider purchasing another 4 GBs of RAM and/or bite the bullet ( RAM for this iMac is not that expensive) and purchase enough to get you to 16 GBs of RAM.
That will help your issues.
Your running applications that need to have that extra RAM in there.

Video quality deteriorates when using title tool or color.

hi there, I'm currently editing a HD project in FCE 4,0,1. All goes well, except when I use the title tool (lower thirds) or when I use color to adjust a certain shot. When using color, the movements begin to jitter. When using the title tool, the video in the background + the title itself becomes pixelated, meaning that the quality drops far below the original HD quality. The bad quality remains when exporting the movie. When I move the title just a tiny bit, the quality goes back to regular HD, but when I render it, it goes back to inferior video. Any ideas, suggestions, insights, ... ? Thank you
