Error: 0xc0000001 windows/system32/winload.efi missing or ..

i have msi ge60 0nd series leptop and recently i want to recovery my system and go back factory settings but end up this error and i can' t recover. Need your help.

The error code: 0xc0000001 indicates that there might be some issues with the booting device or some booting files are corrupted. It might also happen if some problem happens with the boot sector of the computer. I would suggest you to un-plug all external
devices, except the keyboard and mouse, then try to boot the computer.
If issue persists, I would suggest you to perform Automatic repair and check if it helps.
1. Hold power button to shut down the system.
2. Press power button to start system.
3. Repeat the steps multiple times (twice or thrice until you see the recovery page).
4. After that, select "advanced repair option" in Recovery page
5. Select "Troubleshoot" in Choose an option page.
6. Select "Advanced options" in Troubleshoot page.
7. Now click on “Automatic Repair” and follow the on-screen instructions.

I have a new 2 month old(Aug 2014) hp eliteone 800 all in one computer running win 8.1 64bit. i have two  1 tb hard drives raid configuration. left computer on for an afternoon and when I came back it was off mysteriously. tried to turn on and it
attempted to repair and was never able to repair. hp sent a new windows 8 software to install, they said os was corrupt. installed three times now i get error code: 0xc0000001 file: \windows\system32\winload.efi  missing or contains errors. hp said installation
disc probably corrupt and sent me another. installed twice with same result, error code: 0xc0000001 file: \windows\system32\winload.efi  missing or contains errors. This began after the computer was just one month old and after i had placed 300-400
gb of my personal data from other computers on it. I need all of these files so can't just recover/delete all of the files on the computer, although i have read that that may be my only solution? If i do recover will the files still be on the second hard drive??
can you help with this problem?? thanks.

    Hi Richard,
Did you try to repair or reinstall the system when you insert the new media?
Have you tried to carry out a system recovery, which will restore your system back to factory defaults and how was the result?
In addition, I suggest you use the new installation media to do a clean install(full format the old system).

Note: If you have important personal data, remember to insert your drive into another computer to backup your personal data before you do any operation.

  • Windows 8.1 - \windows\system32\winload.efi missing or corrupt Code: 0cx000000f

I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad U330 Touch 4th Gen i5 for 5 months now, and last week, lots of blue screen errors started appearing. Here is a list of the BSOD Errors I had DURING ONE DAY:
    BAD_POOL_HEADER
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
    MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
    KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
    PFN_FILE_CORRUPT
    BAD_POOL CALLER
    ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY
Anyway, It worked fine this morning, but after I came back from lunch, It told me that my computer needed to be repaired, because the file \windows\system32\winload.efi was either missing or contained errors.  I have 3 options on this screen which are:
"Press Enter to try again" - which does nothing
"Press F8 for Startup Settings" - which does nothing
"Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings" - which works and takes me to the "InsydeH2O Setup Utility"
What do I do to get my laptop working again??

    Hi,
How about your problem now? According to your description, the only way except reinstall OS to fix your problem was create a system repair disc, USB drive is OK. Then connect to your computer to fix this problem.

  • Try to reset to factory settings/missing file"windows\system32\winload.efi

    I have Toshiba Serial #XXXXXXXXX, model P75-A7200

It is getting slow and someother minor issues while on internet, so I want to do a Full Reset to facory settings. I have tried the Refresh option and the Reset option. Both come back with error message ;oxc0000001, missing file: Windows\system32\winload.efi
So how do I fix this since I didnt make a recovery or start up discs? I can reboot the computer just fine, I just cant do a computer reset.
I am running Windows 8.1, came installed with windows 8, I upgrade to 8.1 shortly after I bought it.

  • Windows To Go windows/system32/Winload.exe corrupt or missing

I have a windows to go hard drive and an error came up recently saying "windows/system32/winload.exe corrupt or missing". I made a recovery drive from normal windows 8 but it cant detect the windows to go hard drive (I think its because its only
looking to internal hard drives). any help would be appreciated. thanks
EDIT:: it should say winload in the title

    Hi!
    My name is Long.
I've got the same issue like you and resolved that without repartition and reinstall window to to.
I will so you step by step what i did to resolve the error with winload.exe corrupt or missing. I hove that will help you resolve your problem too.
As you known: Window to go run in a external harddrive with 2 partitions. The first Partition have 350 MB (FAT32, active partition and it contain boot files). The second partition have remaining space (contain window files).
The first you need a computer have a working window 7 or 8 OS(recommend window 8 or highter)
Plug your window to go hard drive to the window.
Assign the first partition 350 MB by disk manager with letter Z: (normally the fist partition 350 MB is not mounted)
Assign the second (contain windows files) with letter O:
Delete all file in the partition Z:
Open CMD and do the command.
           O:\windows\system32\bcdboot O:\windows /f ALL /s Z:
Restart and boot to window to go.
If you want to know why i did that, read below:
    (External Hard Drive = EHD)
i found a lot of the suggests in the internet and did that.
    - I had try to replace the winload.exe file in the second partition but it not effect.
    - I replace the registry data in folder \windows\system32\config but it not effect.
    - I did some commands found in the internet but not effect too. (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/1b2045b9-7fef-47f0-aea3-1e185fb7544c/fix-winloadexe-is-missing-or-corrupt-no-its-not)
    - System repair not work with EHD.
After i did all the ways found in the internet, i think that, the problem is not due to winload.exe file.
I read the tips to install window togo again and i try to reinstall the window to go without repartition.
    The install have 2 steps:
    - 1: Partition and set active.
    - 2: Copy file and make boot
I ignor the first step because my EHD have got 2 partitons like the tips.
I delete all file and folder relate to window except my pertional data (in the 2nd partition).
I extract install.wim file and copy all to the 2nd partition. I restart and boot to EHD but it still got error.
I'm used Bootice and check the MBR of EHD and i got unknown MBR. I think the the problem.
So I used Bootice software, set MBR of EHD = Windows NT 6.x. and I
Set PBR to 2 partitions are BOOTMGR boot record (FAT32/NTFS/ExFAT).  I restart and boot to EHD but it still got error.
Next, I delete all file in 1st partition of EHD.
I Open CMD and do the command
    "o:\windows\system32\bcdboot o:\windows /f ALL /s z:"
after that, i restart and boot to EHD and it worked. The window to go work perfect but i lost all settings :)
So i think the 2nd partition and all files is ok. The problem is by the 1st partition.

    thank you in advance.

That error means the Registry is corrupted.
The registry is made up from the following files:
    c:\windows\system32\config\system
    c:\windows\system32\config\software
    c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    c:\windows\system32\config\security
    c:\windows\system32\config\default
You can restore these Registry files from the hidden System Restore folder on C: Drive.

If it was my own laptop and if it was a desktop I would just make a clean installation. Delete all partitions and install new windows. But his laptop got these ones........
    disk 0 partition 1 200 mb system
disk 0 partition 2 227,7gb all free, primary
disk0 unallocated space 194 gb all free
    disk 0 partition 3: lenovo 29gb 8mb free, LOGICAL

  • Error message windows\system32\config\system does anyone know what to do to get it working again

    Hi
This above errot message comes up when i try to booth up the computer, when bought the compyer did not come with disk butwas pre installed, its rather urgent as my dad's medical files are on there, any help will be appreciated

    Hi silvanavandijk,
It would be very helpful if you post the whole error and not just the filename. Also it would be very useful to know what OS version/edition (for example: Windows Vista Prof x64) and thinkpad model you got.
I have seen errors that appear right when Windows start to load with a black screen that says windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt or something like that. Is that what you experience? I have also only seen this problem with computers running Windows Vista, are you using Vista?
If this is the problem you see the solution is to boot from a Windows DVD and choose the repair option instead of starting the windows installation. That should fix the problem. Another option would be if you got a image backup of the computer. Without the DVD i don't know how to fix this problem or if it's even possible.

I do not have any windows 8 install disc since it was preset on my computer and i don't know what to do if anyone can help me please reply to this and thank you for your time

This is clearly an issue with the drivers in your boot image. Yes, for boot image driver issues you must update the boot image and ensure it's been updated on the DPs for it to be effective.
It happens before you get a change to select a TS because its an issue with the boot image itself which must fully load for anything task sequence wise to actually happen.
When testing boot image image issues, always make sure that you know which boot image you are updating and which one was downloaded to the system as its possible they are two different things.
Also, for SP1 CU3, the boot images are based on Win 8 so make sure that you are using Win 8 compatible drivers in the boot image itself.

    Hi,
0xC000000E, or STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE: the drive went unavailable, possibly a bad hard drive, disk array, and/or controller card.
Please also contact your hardware vendor HP to check the health of your hard disks.

  • Windows 8.1 Freezing and Refresh Failed - winload.efi error 0xc0000001

Hey, everybody. I'm new to these forums so I'm sorry if I do anything wrong, and sorry for the long post.
I own a three-month-old Toshiba Satellite S50D-A that came with Windows 8 installed and ran perfectly. I was eventually asked to upgrade to Windows 8.1, and assuming it was a minor update, I immediately accepted.
Unfortunately, ever since "upgrading" to Windows 8.1, my computer has suffered some severe performance issues. Browsing the internet has become slower, games run poorly, and worst of all, my computer will randomly freeze constantly. I am still
able to move the mouse around but clicking does nothing or sometimes has a very delayed response. The computer usually resumes after a few minutes, but sometimes it suddenly resets on its own. This has become increasingly frustrating, especially when I am
in class (I am a university student) and trying to take notes when the computer freezes and sometimes resets, losing my notes.
Researching on the internet has revealed that this is not an uncommon problem with Windows 8.1, but the solutions presented online have failed to solve my problems. I've upgraded every driver on my computer which I thought was the issue but the problem has
    persisted.
A couple of days ago, I left my computer for a few minutes and returned to find it had shut down and refused to turn back on. I was eventually able to restart the computer after contacting Toshiba and learning there was a reset hole I could poke a pin into,
but that episode convinced me to give up on fixing the issue and to simply return my computer to factory defaults.
If anybody has any solutions to the freeezing issue and other problems with Windows 8.1, that would be preferable, but otherwise, this brings me to my new problem. I stumbled upon Windows Refresh, the ability to return to default system settings without
losing my files. This sounded perfect as I am willing to reinstall all of my programs if it means having a properly functioning computer again. However, upon attempting the Refresh, I was presented with a blue screen that read:
    RECOVERY
The Application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
    File: \windows\system32\winload.efi
    Error code: 0x0000001
It proceeds to tell me that I can use recovery tools to repair my computer, which brings me to my next trouble... I did not create recovery media when I still had Windows 8. I plan to go out and buy a 16gb usb stick tomorrow and create one but I'm not sure
if the Windows 8.1 recovery media will work or not.
Long story short, my computer has suffered constant freezing since updating to Windows 8.1, and my attempts to use the Refresh feature have failed due to error code 0x0000001. If anybody has a solution to any of these problems, your help would be extremely
appreciated. As a full-time student, these technology troubles have become extremely infuriating.
    Thank you!

Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    Expand Custom Views
    Click Administrative Events
    Right click Administrative Events

If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The
work around is to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do

  • Flex 15D errored within an hour of purchase with winload.efi

I unboxed my new Flex 15D an hour ago, very pleased with it, until it rebooted to install windows 8.1 updates.
When it rebooted I ended up at a blue screen saying that the file \windows\system32\winload.efi is missing.
Enter just loops back to the error, F8 flashes the screen and takes me back to the error.
    Can anyone help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would do a few things.
    1. Go into the bios and enable legacy mode + disable safe boot
    2. If that fails, use a windows 8.1 DVD image to "repair startup" (part of the advance options, before installation proceeds).
    3. If that fails, then use the OKR system and try to update to Windows 8.1 again, before you load your personal files/programs. Since you got 1 hour run-time on it, I doubt you have much on the laptop. Hence, this might be your best and quickest option.
    4. Or you can wait for a Lenovo Support Specialist to respond. lmao ,,,, They might have something better than the above lol.

  • Windows 8.1 Error 0xc0000001

Recently I've been trying to refresh my computer lately because its been running really slow, so i tried refreshing it but at the end it ends up telling me I have a file missing or it needs to be repaired  (file: /windows/system32/winload.efi) and
to insurt a disc but my laptop didn't come with any discs, I don't know what to do. I can't update my apps or even go to my app store. How can i fix this?

How did you install Windows 8.1? Windows store upgrade? If so, you may need to find Windows 8.1 installation disc to make system refresh. Microsoft doesn't provide any method to make system refresh for the User that upgrade their system to Windows 8.1.
While, if you encounter any problem such as your provide in title, please provide the details about this problem.

Please upload "winload.efi" for L855-S5366. This is loacated in C:/windows/system32. My laptop after booting says, computer needs to be repaired and a file ie C:/windows/system32/winload.efi is missing or corrupted. I dont have recovery media and not in position to get it from Toshiba.
    Thanks in advance

Tried to look for that file with the link given by you but wont find... please guide how to download that file.
Forget about that file. It's a red herring.
my laptop boots with Toshiba logo and after that it gives that error page.
So Windows does not start? You neglected to tell us that.
This all happened when I tried to partition my C drive with Easeus partition master. ...  Am newbie
Now I'm beginning to understand. You fooled around with a partition manager - in spite of the fact that you're a newbie.
Your best bet is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. See the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 54 of the User's Guide.
