Is there a fix or do I go buy a different brand of printer?

  • PDF from Google Apps gmail/gdrive by Cloudprinter failed on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One

    Dear forum contributors,
    1. HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One
    2. Linux OpenSuSE 12.2 64-bit
    3. Failed , after the failed message is a very long URL to my gmail attachment.
    4. This issue occured from the beginning, I have this printer only for one week.
When I print different kinds of PDF's from Google Apps (gmail and gdrive) by Google Cloudprinter I got a failed message at the HP eprinter Recent Print Jobs list.
Other prints from Google Cloudprinter, for example a webpage or a Google Docs document (not PDF) is working fine.
Also sending the same PDF's directly to my @hpeprinter.com e-mail address is working fine.
Is this a problem by Google Cloudprinter or HP e-print? How to solve the problem?
    Thanks for helping,
    Jurjen

After much research, I was unable to obtain a direct answer for two reasons: HP doesn't support Linux or Cloud Print beyond initial setup.  I was not very satisfied with this answer as I knew you would not really be either so I found some links and this may be the last I can provide any assistance here due to the two reasons above.  These links cover everything and should provide for you additional links to all of your questions I believe.
--Serving a Printer to Google Cloud Print from Linux--
    --Google Cloud Print on Linux--
--Installing Google Cloud Print on a Linux Server--
Otherwise, if ePrint is not working within the apps using a Windows-based computer I am more than happy to assist you.  You may continue to get support here from other community members regarding Linux but I may not be of much assistance.  I can say the first place to check is www.eprintcenter.com and see what the error messages say there under the print history, cancel any pending print jobs and try again.  Keep me posted on any additional information you may want to add regarding a Windows PC, otherwise I should direct you over to some great support provided by Google Cloud. Linux is suppose to work with these functions so I will leave you with this final excerpt from a Cloud Print Help site:
"Why is my document not printing?
    1. Make sure your Google Cloud Print connector is running on a computer with Mac, Windows, or Linux.
    2. If you're using Windows XP, make sure you also have the Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.
    3. Confirm that the computer connected to your printer is powered on and that you are logged in."
This printer should support this feature so to make sure, you can log into www.eprintcenter.com and select ePrint Settings under the customized email address on this page and ensure you have Print Services ON.  I wish I could be of more assistance however.  I strongly recommend contacting the manufacturer of the apps you are having the problem with as these functions work when you use them like ePrint was intended (via email and mobile devices).  Good Luck!

  • HP officejet pro 8600 plus need to reset, but no screen access due to head error

    hi,
I had some HP's 8600 but one of them it is dead as printer and it was replaced.
I need to use it only as scanner (no printing since its problem are the printing heads). The problem I cannot access to the menu through the screen since it is stock with the message mentioning the fail on printing head. The next option it is to watch a demo about heads.
Im trying to access in order to fix a new static ip for the scan.
Is there a way to reset so the printing gets an dhcp ip add? So far the scanner works fine through USB connection.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello @Rodrigo_cl,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer has encountered a hardware Printhead failure and is not allowing you to scan using a static IP because of this. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
Now, due to the error on the front panel of the printer, you will not be able to perform any resets on your machine. But, if your printer is currently on the network with an automatic IP we can utilize the embedded web server to configure a static IP.
Is your printer currently on your wireless or wired network?
Once I know if your printer is currently on the network, I can guide you towards configuring the static IP through the computer. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One - N911n cartridge errors

Please help! I have an Officejet Pro 8600 all in one that is just over a year old, just out of warrenty... We don't use it much and so just had to change the ink cartridges for the first time. Once they were changed out, the printer gave me the warning that there is a cartridge error and that the Cyan failed. Even though it was a brand new cartridge, I bought another one and changed it again. I still get the same error message with the 2nd new one. I have been through everything on the HP website for troubleshooting this problem and nothing works! Please, does anyone have anything else I can do????

Sorry to hear you are still having this problem. So the yellow was out and you replaced the yellow and then the cyan failed?
Printers when left not used for some time, may have printhead issue, but if it's not even recognizing the cartridge, then more likely a hardware or board issue that may need professional service.
One thing you can try is to update the firmweare (if not already), http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL41945/bi-101905-5/OJP8600_N911a_R1322C.exe

    Ok,
    Let's verify the following:
Right click on Computer, then click on Properties and locate the Computer name.
Ensure it is written in English characters and without any special characters.. modify t if required.
From the Control Panel go to Programs and Features, uninstall the HP Officejet 8600 Basic Driver and Software.
Click both the Windows Logo and the R keys of your keyboard to launch the Run dialog.
Type %temp% and click on OK.
Locate and open the HP installation folder, it will start with the 7z characters.
    Open the utils folder.
open the x64 folder for a 64-bit operating system or the x86 for a 32 bit OS. if you aren't sure simply try both of the folders, if it is not intended for your OS an error will appear..
Launch the RemovePreinstalledDrivers.exe file and allow it to complete.
Once you are done, go back to the 7z folder and launch Setup.exe to reinstall the HP software.
Reboot your PC once you are done and check again.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Network connection error message in EWS

I just got an Officejet Pro 8600 Premium.  The printer is connected to the network via a network cable.  When navigating through the EWS, sometimes the message "Network connection error.  Check network and try again." message is shown (the message could appear in various pages, such as Settings, Tools, etc.).  Refreshing the page should get rid of the message.
At first, I suspected if it was a problem with the network. So I pinged the printer's ip address continuously.  It did not miss a single beat.  The printer prints and scans well via the network.  So I think the error may be caused by something inside of the print, such as bug of EWS software, or internal error.
Anyone see the same message during the use?  Any suggestion?  Does it indicate there is hardware problem with the printer?  Thanks.

HP Support has escalated the case.  I referred this thread in the support request.  Hopefully, they can have a look at the issue.
For me, the only setting does not stick is "Use the same time zone set on this computer" in Settings\Date & Time.  I've created another ticket for this issue.  8500A has the same problem.
You can try to restart the EWS.  Unplug the power cord while the printer is on.  Then wait 15 sec and reconnect the power cord.  Press the power button if the printer does not turn on by itself.
If you would like to reset to the printer and reconfigure from scratch, you can check here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/How-to-reset-Officejet-Pro-8600-Plus-P...

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600: "Unable to Communicate with Printer" error message

I receive the error message "Unable to Communicate with Printer" regularly when I print. Sometimes it will print 3 or 4 times just fine before I get this message. Sometimes it happens my first try at printing. I then have to reboot my computer to get it to work again. My OS is Windows 7 and my printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8600. My printer is wired to my computer. I have tried re-installing the printer software but this did not help. I've had this printer for only four months. Started happening after the second month. Any suggestions?

I finally solved it.  Reflecting back on previous message boards I decided to try one last time.  Some posters have found the problem in the Antivirus, Firewall protections.  (By the way, I had even upgraded my router with no luck).I have Norton AntiVirus provided by the cable company.1. I turned off everything in the firewall.  Although this left me vulnerable for a few mintues, I needed a fast test.2. It worked!  I was able to print something immediately.3. I went back into the firewall, turned everything back on but turned off an individual switch within the firewall that said to "share the printer. "4. After turning it off, I was able to print and still have the most important parts of the firewall. This ultimately met my needs.Perhaps HP could:1. Do a better job at beta testing prior to release, including various brands of firewalls.  Is there even a beta test process?2. Provide a better description of the error since all indicators within the drivers say the printer is connected.  There should be a message indicating that it's connected but unable to print due to firewall protections.

  • Unable to Communicate with Printer Error - Officejet Pro 8600

My printer was working fine last week... printing from my Mac desktop via wireless.
Now, when I try to print, the progress window is just hanging... trying to find the printer.
I deleted the printer in my settings and tried to reinstall. Now, I am getting an error message that says: Unable to Communicate with the Printer at this Time.
    Help, please!

Hello K_D123, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are having wireless issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would recommend powering off your computer and printer.  Once they are both off, I would unplug the power from the back of your wireless router, wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.  After the router has begun broadcasting, power on the printer and computer.
I would also recommend following the steps in this document on Wireless printing center Troubleshooting Issues.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • 'Connection Error' message on HP Officejet Pro 8600

Hi.  Would really appreciate help on this.  I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600.  Working wirelessly.  All connections are fine, print & scan etc works fine.  However when i touch the screen on the printer, for example to click 'Apps', I get the following message:
' Connection Error.  The printer was unable to connect to the server.  Check your internet connection and try again.'
I don't understand why I am getting this message, nor how to resolve it.  The connection seems fine because I am printing and scanning wirelessly without an issue.
Can anyone help me on this?  Thanks

I know this will sound like it shouldn't work, but turn the printer off and back on, then try the apps again.  If that doesn't work, or you've tried it, turn off your router and your printer.  Turn your router back on, but leave the printer turned off.  Wait for the router to stabalize, about 1-2 minutes normally.  Turn the printer back on and try the apps.  If that doesn't work, let me know.

    Hi Liam,
The installation CD that came with your 8600 will definitely not work with Windows 8.1 and is not same as the latest online download which you will need to install on Win8.1.
Are you running Win8.1 Pro 32 or 64 bit?
Also make sure you select the right model of your Officejet. There are 3 different models.
HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer series - N911
     HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One Printer series - N911

Try uninstalling printer from the control panel and reinstall using the Win8.1 download from the link above.

  • "Try Selecting a Different Printer or File Type" Error - iPad2 - Officejet Pro 8600 - ePrint error

    Greetings...
I just got an Officejet Pro 8600 and I've been trying to get web pages to print using HP ePrint from my iPad 2 (iOS 7.0.6). I go into the ePrint app, go to web page of choice, and then click on my printer option to print. It renders on screen and then throws out the following error:
"Try Selecting a Different Printer or File Type" "Officejet Pro 8600 [5124FC] doesn't support this file type."
I can use ePrint from the iPad to print pictures from camera roll.
This only is problematic when I try to print web pages (I tried amazon.com for test).
I have no problems doing this from my iPhone...only the iPad.
I've tried rebooting device and trying again....same thing.
Anybody know how to fix this? I really want to be able to print web pages from my iPad.
    Thanks in advance...
    Possie

    Hello Possie,
Thank you for the update.  I have to say I'm surprised and disappointed that the uninstall and reinstall did not resolve the issue, especially since you can print the page from your iPhone.
I have spent some time researching this and working with my colleagues in HP's Cloud Services and we have a couple of suggestions/questions.
Do you get the same error when you try to print the web page using Apple's AirPrint feature?
Please ensure the iPad is connect to your home wireless network and try to print again.
Please try changing the settings in the ePrint app before printing the web page.  Please ensure that the paper quality is set to normal (see screen shot below) and that the paper size is set to letter (see 2nd screen shot below).
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Apps Error - 'Connection Error'

    Hi,
Newbie question maybe, but it's got me a little stumped.
I've an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus on a wired connection to my Sky router/ADSL modem, using a static IP.
when I go into Apps it pulls down a list of the installed Apps OK, but when I select any one from the printer control pad it tries to connect then throws an error.  I can;t see a place I should set anythign up.
I have a woerkign hp ePrint Center account, ePrint works (eventually!) when I email docs to my eprint email address, adn also via Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint.  While it;s not ruining my life, I would like all of the printer functions to work :-)
I can print to a network folder, as long as it;s on a PC, although my NAS it won;t print to for some reason, but I guess that's a further question :-)
    Any help very much appreciated!!!!
    MF668

    Hi MF668,
Try setting an alternative DNS and check if that may help:
Press the wireless icon on the top of the printer screen and locate tis IP address.
Browse to the printer's IP through the web browser on your PC.
    Click the Network tab.
    Under Wired click on IPv4.
Under DNS Address Configuration select Manual.
Set the Preferred address as 8.8.8.8
Set the Alternate address as 8.8.4.4
Click Apply to confirm the change.
Now turn the printer Off and back On and check for any difference.

  • Error message "paper too short to autoduplex" on Officejet Pro 8600

I have this problem with my new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  I have standard letter size paper in Tray 1, and have all the printer setup set for letter size paper.  No matter what program I print from, I recieve the error message "paper too short to auto-duplex". I click the close button, and the page prints.  It is aggravating to take the extra step to close this error message every time I print.  I shut the printer down for 30-60 seconds and this took the problem away. Is this normal?  Will I have to do this often?

The fix is available in printer firmware (Software within the Printer). You can download it from hp.com and install from you pc to printer.

  • Officejet pro 8600 Premium pick motor stalled error message

I have the Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer. I'm getting the message "pick motor stalled" after two and a half months of stellar use with this printer. There is no paper/print jam. I'm using the same paper I have always used. Help, is this a problem with this model?

Also having this issue with an Officejet Pro 8600 Premium too. Bought it in May 2012 to replace an Officejet 7410. Running on a wireless network to a Win 7 32 bit laptop. Started getting the popular Pick Motor Stalled error after two months of ownership of the 8600. Have been able to get the printer to reset this error in the past with combinations of powering down, running diagnostics, and having the printer execute either a print head clean routine or a print printer status routine - that is up until this weekend. Trying to print tax returns so I can get them in the mail by the 4/15 deadline tomorrow and, of course, the Pick Motor Stalled error shows up again. Spent several hours trying usual tricks, this time nothing works. Finally, as a desperate last resort, I powered down the printer and completely removed the second printer tray assembly from the bottom of the printer. Powered back up running only the single main tray and that did the trick. Printing restored. For those that might conclude there was a paper jam on the machine and removing the second paper tray assembly fixed it, trust me. I have been in and out of that machine. There was no paper jam. There is some glitch in either the electronics or firmware, or both on these printers that is causing all the Pick Motor Stalled errors that the user community for this HP device has been dealing with.
