Error -2048  and corrupted movies. Help!

I recently transferred several large quicktime movies from one firewire hard drive to another. Now, it appears they were corrupted during the transfer! They display an error -2048 and Quicktime "cannot understand" them.
It's hard to believe that an entire file can be corrupted and beyond repair after moving from one hard drive to another. Is there any program or method I can use to recover or repair them? Thank you

I heard from another forum that there is a way to fix files from the terminal. Does anyone know anything about that? I've got to get these files back...

  • Error 2048 not a movie file

QT 7 pro was working fine at first. Now when I try to play a video file I get "error 2048 not a movie file. The file plays fine in another player. Also QT will play a QT movie but not a file. I have QT installed on two computers with the exact same problem on both. please help.

Yes the format of the files is windows media video files. They play successfully on real player and on VLC media player.
They were also playing on itunes, but now they won't play on QT or itunes. By play a movie I mean the movie was downloaded as a QT movie. The desktop icon says QTmovie. The files That give the 2048 error have real player on the desktop icon.I have uninstalled and reinstalled, even disabling norton before reinstalling still error 2048 on QT. P.S. Itunes and QT were downloaded as a bundle, whatever the problem is is affecting itunes because now when i add files to library they don't show up.

  • Is there a correlation b/w Error -2048 and MPEG-4 files greater than 2GB?

I am having considerable difficulty in getting any of my DVD/movie files greater than 2GB to upload into my iTunes library. Anyone else having this difficulty? Through another problem, I discovered that iTunes ability to play video is based a thinned-down version of the Apple's QT engine, which prompted me to try and open these files using QT Pro; however, there too, I am getting a peculiar -2048 error suggesting it is not a movie file. The files were created using WONDERSHARE and I am experiencing difficulty with only the files that exceed 2GB in size.
For WONDERSHARE users, here are my relevant settings:
    RESOLUTION: 720*400
    CODEC: H.264
    FPS: 30
KBPS: 2,000 or 2,500 (toggled in between both to manage file size for longer movies, like 3 hour Bollywood epics)
Any help on this matter woudl be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Jon,
Thanks for your response. I have inserted commentary below:
    I am having
considerable difficulty in getting any of my
DVD/movie files greater than 2GB to upload into my
    iTunes library.The 2 GB
restriction is usually on your source file -- the DVD
VOB -- or associated with Fat-32 file system. I have
H.264 files as large as 3.8 GB for SD content.
The file system is NTFS. I am not sure what you mean by DVD VOB.
    I discovered that
iTunes ability to play video is based a thinned-down
    version of the Apple's QT
    engineiTunes can access the
entire QT structure. The iPod and TV players are
limited to a modest QT sub-set.
O.K. But, QT still cannot open the file. If the files are corrupt, how come they only become corrupt at 2+ GB.
    however, there too, I
am getting a peculiar -2048 error suggesting it is
not a movie file.If issued by an
Apple application, this error code usually equates to
"noMovieFound" at the referenced location. This could
be a path error or refer to a movie interrupt during
conversion (as when your 2 GB plus source file
terminates prematurely) and the target file is not
closed properly (and is likely not recognized as a
    valid QT file).
    CODEC:
    H.264In which profile?
Again, not sure what you mean by "profile."

  • Error 14 and corrupted software

my iphone 6 has currently been in a locked state for a day now
everytime i restore from itunes the download gets corrupted and shows the message (the software for _iphone_ was corrupted)
i tried manually installing but get error 14

When you say a locked state, are you referring to the fact it is disabled? If so, see this support document. Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
When you say you try to manually install, could you provide a little more detail? Also, you can see this support document for update and restore errors. Seems error 14 is generally related to a USB issue. Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

  • Video shot on my iPhone 5S produces error -2048 indicating that .MOV is not recognized by Quicktime

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 (16G) to an iPhone 5S (16G); my wife from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5C - videos from either phone will not play in QuickTime v7.7.4 (running Windows7). I have downgraded to an earlier QT version 7.6 to no avail. I have reinstalled QT 7.7.4 and continue to get the message 2048 from Quicktime it is not a file that QuickTime understands; I can play the videos previously shot on the iPhone 4 units. I've also tried to open with other video players (Windows Media Play, VLC) with no luck.  Anyone else out there overcome this challenge?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
I got a video share on my mail. It was an .mov attachment. Video shot on iPhone 5. when i try to play that video using quick time i get a pop up message saying
The document “IMG_0110.MOV” could not be opened. The movie's file format isn't recognized.
If i opt for "tell me more" i get to see a screen showing what all formats are supported by quick time player. It says quick time supports .mov formats.
    Please help.
Try downloading the free VCL Player from here
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
And see if that will play it. It plays a lot of formats that Quicktime will not recognize.

  • Ipad error 37 and white screen HELP!!

    Hi,
I have an Ipad 1 not jailbroken and using itunes on a windows xp machine.
Two days ago I had a notification on my ipad showing an update for the ios was available it started to download wirelessly. When I can back to check the device later it was showing a blank white screen. I have connected to the computer which detects the ipad in recovery mode and attempts to complete a restore. Every time this throws up the error 37.
I have disabled all antivirus software tried the update on three machines and two different wireless providers and still returns the same error. It goes fine up until about 80% and verifying firmware with apple servers then throws the error up.
I have tried everything DFU, restore, ammending windows hosts file and nothing.
The ipad is 2 months outside of it's warranty however it was working perfectly up until apples update
    Any help will be appreciated

    Hi,
Well the apple store was less than useless! They said that it was a hardware failure that apparently occurred by coincidence at the same time as the apple update. the level of customer service is appalling.
In the end after wasting my time with the so called genius staff. They told me without paying 158 to repair it there was no way of fixing it.
So i came home downloaded the latest version of redsnow, jailbroke it, you have to have the most recent redsnow which is a tethered((( jailbreak (if its not the most recent redsnow i was getting the firmware 6000 ms error.
Jailbroke pad and works perfect now, still won't restore through itunes but it works and I've now discovered the benefits of jailbreaking the pad anyway.
will never buy an apple product again though customer service is shocking

  • Error -2048 and beyond...

    Hello everybody,
I've got a very simple question, and I hope the Apple employees will be paying the required attention and thought to the question I'm about the ask:
Why do we, the iPod movie customers, have to struggle so much on finding the right way to convert common movie files (.avi, .mpeg, .mov) to the only two formats that iPod actually supports (MP4 and M4U)?
Just a suggestion - if your product only supports one or two uncommon formats, why not make it easier on the consumer and give him the software which does the basic operation of converting the most common formats to the one or two being supported by iPod.
Why letting the consumer spend another $25-30 on the software on top of what he spent on the product itself?
If anybody here can enlighten me with some new updates regarding the conversion softwares, please do...

"Why do we, the iPod movie customers, have to struggle so much on finding the right way to convert common movie files (.avi, .mpeg, .mov) to the only two formats that iPod actually supports (MP4 and M4U)?"
Nothing common about the .AVI container. Thousands of combinations of audio and video codecs. Use third party convertors on that format for better success in your export.
General rule is that it must first play in the QuickTime Player before it can be exported.
No one from Apple will respond in these Discussions pages. These pages are "peer to peer".
The iPod supports dozens of formats as long as they meet the "specs" used on your particular device.
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html
Open a MPEG 1 file and it will "play" with QuickTime. The "Pro" upgrade can't (never did) export any audio from these muxed track formats. Use third party software to convert your MPEG-1 files.
MPEG-2 (format of most DVD's) also requires third party software help. QuickTime doesn't "play" DVD's.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can convert many of these files to QT formats that can be used on your iPod. It even has an MPEG-4 "preset" export feature that is foolproof.
Non commercial (not "Hollywood") DVD's can be converted via the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component and the tool mentioned above.
iTunes also includes a "video" to iPod conversion feature. Since iTunes is free you may not have needed to spend any money on your "conversions". Just drag your video to iTunes and set your preferences for the proper conversion format.

  • SD Sales BOM and Stock Movement--Help please

    Hi,
    Scenario:
Client is dealing with Value packs. i.e. He creates a finish good by using 2 finish goods as components by creating Sales BOM.
Basic Requirement: To have component level treatment i.e. pricing delivery to be incorporated for components.
Item cat grp selected as LUMF for BOM parent Item in material master.
But the requirement is that stock movements should reflect for both parent as well as BOM materials upon PGI. Header stock is required to check the stock availibity.
By this approach no movements can be seen for parent which will give a wrong picture of the stock positions for Parent Material.
How this can be handled whereby we can see the stock movements for both Parent as well as components.
    Please suggest
    Regards,

    Hi,
Please Use Two Different Item Categories and Schedule Line Categories in this Scenarios and Please ensure that both should be relevant for Delivery.

  • Installing ML and corrupted disk help

So I was  trying to install mountain lion and when I selected my macintosh hdd to install it to it said that it couldn't be installed there because it couldn't boot my h (or something like that) So I went into disk utility (by hitting the back button and choosing my language and then selecting disk utility) and verified my hdd it said it needed to repaired but the repair button was shaded out. When I moused over it it said that I couldn't be repaired because the disk could not be written to! Thanks in advance for the help. (also I was using a 13' MacBook pro 2011 if that helps)

ML checks the integrity of the install disk before proceeding to install. Start up with your Snow Leopard disc (or whatever installation disk that came with your system) and run Disk Utility to both verify and, if needed, repair the disk (if it can be repaired). If DU fails to repair the disk, it's probably hosed.

  • Error 2048 (qtvr and .mov)

First, hello and thanks for any answers.
    Second, in before "download VLC"
Using QT 7.6.4 and i am unable to view qtvr files from websites as well as any .mov i have on my pc. When attempting to view a .mov on my pc, i get error 2048 and neither IE nor firefox, (or Safari for that matter) will play qtvr files on websites. Combed through plenty of posts regarding this issue to no avail. Tried a simple uninstall and reinstall, changed file associations and reset them. What am i missing.
    OS is Vista sp2
Thanks again and sorry if this was already addressed.

I (and another people, see this thread - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2153482&tstart=0) seem to be having a similar problem. The only advice I got was to wait for a new update to QuickTime, but some people in the thread I posted a link to gave some suggestions that may help you.

  • Error-2048

I expect this forum abounds with questions on this issue but I have not seen anything yet to help me that works.
I have the full QTPro version 7.1.3 and every time I try and open an mpeg2 file (that plays fine in Media Player) it says error-2048 not a movie file.
Can someone please help me to fix this as I want to covert mpg2 files to mpg4 in QT for easier emailing and quick viewing in iTunes.
    Thanks

I just wanted to second QuickTimeKirk. Downloading MPEG-2 Playback fixed my 2048 parsing error as well.
I'd also like to add my two-bits regarding QuickTime's Application lack of feedback. When trying to play a Client's Windows generated MPG on the Mac running QuickTime 7.1.3 the only error message generated was a very generic "Can't open File" or something equally as vague. I was totally at a loss. It wasn't until I tried to open the same file in iMovie that I discovered the "couldn't parse - 2048" message which led me here. Come on Apple... if I am going to believe your ad campaign comparing Mac's multimedia prowess compared to Windows, why not try a little harder! Very frustrating to have to spend an hour troubleshooting QuickTime in 2006!!!

  • Windows Media File error 2048

Anyone know how to convert a Windows Media file to run on Quicktime? I get a message that say's Error 2048 and that it's not a movie file.... Thanks.

Be aware that even if you get Apple's MPEG2 QuickTime Component, that if the file uses AC3 audio QuickTime Player will not be able to play the audio from that. Apple use the feeble excuse that this is because QuickTime does not support muxed video files (where the audio and video are mixed together). Normally QuickTime files keep the audio and video as separate streams in a single file.
I regard this as a feeble excuse because a) it should have been fixed years ago, after all other software does not have this problem even WMP copes with this, and b) even when using QuickTime and Apple's MPEG2 component the free third-party tool MPEGStreamClip (for Windows or Mac) can play AC3 audio in these files. I repeat this tool uses the same QuickTime and Apple's MPEG2 component and yet it can play AC3 audio when Apple's own QuickTime Player cannot.

I recently upgarded my flash player to the most recent version.  I am using Windows XP Home addition 32-bit system.  Now when when the flash content tries to run I receve an Error 2048 and "failed to load the resource" and "can not access the resource file".  It apparently is not an installation proble.  Is there something on my system's security settings that is keeping the flash content from working?  How do I clear that up?
