Error 8004230f and 2155348075 "Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes."
Hello,
When I try to run a system state backup with this command: wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:<drive letter>
I get the error
"Failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.
ERROR - Volume Shadow Copy Service operation error (0x8004230f)
The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation."
I'm not sure how to fix this. I'm logged into the machine as an Administrator.
Windows Server Enterprise 2008 SP2 64-bit
Any suggestions??
After I re-registered the dll, I'm still getting the same error in the command window. The DLL registers successfully and the "MS Software Shadow Copy Provider" starts fine.

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:
“failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).”

We aren’t really seeing anything that gives any hint on what the issue is.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance! We are trying to back up folders/files from 2 local drives (C: & D:), both of which have only 10% space used, and 100 GB free.
We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.
This is Windows Server 2012, not running Hyper-V and is a physical server not a VM.
Thank you for the link.

Failure to create a shared protection point during Windows Server 2012 R2 backup.
Several partitions on a system disk have been extended as well as the backup destination partition. After that Windows Server 2012 R2 failed the backup of a system disk with the following error message 0x8004230C. The Server stated it had failed to create
a shared protection point on source volumes and indicated a problem with volume shadow writer. What needs to be done to fix this error and does it have anything to do with partitions being extended?
Vladimir ShipitsynHi,
What destination did you use to do the previous unsuccessful backup? You could try the steps in the article below to troubleshoot errors where the cause is reported by an underlying layer to Windows Server Backup.

Error in File... Failed to create the Crystal Query Engine.
I am attempting to use Compliance Suite 4 to open a report. The error I get is:
Error in File
S:\Applications\Apps\CSuite\Reports\schedstu.rpt:
Failed to create the Crystal Query Engine.
S:\Applications\Apps\CSUITE\Report\schedstu.rpt
When we attempt to open the report with Crystal Reports XI we get the following:
NO SAVED DATA
This report file does not contain saved data and cannot be viewed.
These reports will open for the same account on a different PC. Has anyone seen this? Thanks! You'll probably get a quicker answer from the people at Compliance Suite. All that error is telling me is that the database engine does not understand what it is that you're throwing at it in terms of a database connection or data type. As it's a 3rd party app, I do not know how this is implemented so that is all I can say...

Windows 7: Windows Backup failed 0x81000031
Windows backup ran, and my once-pristine and empty backup drive now has something filling its space, so I assume some files were successfully backed up. Thing is, the Action Center icon has the red x on it and it comes up with one issue: Check, your backup (Important). Clicking this issue produces the following dialog:
Windows Backup: Troubleshooting Options
Check your backup
Windows Backup failed while determining libraries location of one of the users included in the backup.
Details: BitLocker Drive Encryption cannot be used because critical BitLocker system files are missing or corrupted. Use Windows Startup Repair to restore these files to your computer.
Options:
*Try to run backup again
*Change backup settings
Error code: 0x81000031
Thing is, I'm using home premium. I don't see bitlocker as an option and I'm not terribly enthused about having to repair bitlocker when I can't use it to begin with. (Primarily, because I use Windows 7 Home Premium. Even if I used a version which supported bit locker, I'd never use it to begin with - I lack a TPM chip which means that anybody who has physical access to my machine could compromise my security regardless of bitlocker, it'd just take slightly longer for them if bitlocker were present.)
I'm digressing, the point is I don't use bitlocker and I don't know how not having bitlocker prevents Windows 7 from copying files from one drive to another and making a note in a logfile that the files were backed up. I realize I simplify the method of backing files up but it doesn't get much more complex than copying them to a separate location and timestamping them.
tl;dr: Windows Backup produced error code 0x81000031 because bitlocker drive encryption cannot be used. I don't want to use bit locker drive encryption I just want to back my files up to an external drive. Suggestions? Preferably ones that don't make me run Windows Startup Repair.Well 4 years later same problem simple fix, did every thing else as suggested by microsoft sys repair start up repair etc etc and just removing the drive that was included in library fixed the issue i have spent hours on
now have to reinstall all that sys restore removed...SO EVERYBODY do what Sneha said first..
Clicked "Start", then "Computer".
Right clicked on the "Library" I wanted to modify, and selected "properties".
Immediately saw that my DVD drive was an included folder in the library.
Clicked on the drive in the list, and the Remove Button became active.
Clicked on "Remove" and it removed the drive from the list.
Clicked on "Incude Folder" and added in my real backup folder location (not required, I just want a libray connection to
it).
Clicked on "Ok". thanks ath1234 for the process..Cheers -

Nothing we seem to try fixes this any idea's would be appreciatedHi David,
The problem can occur due to the following reasons:
Not enough space inside the virtual machine's VHD.
The Integration services installed is not installed.
The OS is unable to auto-mount the snapshotted VHDs during the backup process.
Also have a look at the following link and see if the symptom matches your problem:

ADT: Web Dynpro view/window error "Failed to create the part's controls"
Hi, all
Most of the things in my ADT work fine (e.g. programs, structures, domains), even the Web Dynpro Componentcontroller can be edited.
However, with Web Dynpro view and window I get this error message: "Failed to create the part's controls".
In SAP GUI everything works fine.
Why could this happen and what can I do?
My system details:
32-bit Windows 7
Eclipse Luna Release (4.4.0)
ADT from https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/kepler, according to these instructions: SAP Development Tools for Eclipse.
SAP GUI 7.30, patch level 9.

As it is not popular to post long logs unnecessarily, I will skip the rest of it for the moment - let me know if it could help and I will post it.
Thanks for help!
KR,
IgorHi Ponraj,
note applied without any problem.
I'm still facing some difficulties accessing a WD component, maybe you could suggest me how to solve/proceed:
in Eclipse Luna, I can access now a WD but "Layout" tab doesn't work - HTTP 403 Forbidden - Service cannot be reached. I guess it's a missing configuration, could you help me out on this?
EDIT: This one is solved; I just missed to activate a service in SICF (WDY_AIE_VD_PREVIEW).
That Eclipse module however seems not to be very stable; I tried to open a standard SRM WD view (wd component /SAPSRM/WDC_DO_SOCO_GAF_1, view V_AO_SOCO_GAF_1) and that resulted in the message:
500 SAP Internal Server Error
ERROR: Conversion of type C LENGTH 255 to type TABLE OF DEEP_STRUCTURE not supported. (termination: RABAX_STATE)"
is there a way, from the Methods tab, to access directly to a particular method's implementation? The only way I found is going manually under the IMPLEMENTATION tab and CTRL+F with the method's name.
is there any way to access to a particular enhancement made on the WD? Using SapGUI, there's a special "vortex" button to switch on a specific enhancement, but under Eclipse I can't find the alternative command.
I know we're getting a bit OT with respect to the topic, anyway if there's a guide that could help clarifying my doubts please, share that documentation

While updating my iphone 4s to ios6, I had to restore it. Now every time I connect to itunes, I get the "Set Up Your iPhone" window with the set up as new iphone and restore from backup options. After the restore, I got everything except my apps and music back. Do I need to set the phone up as new again?

Hi,
We have a back up that is failing.
The error is "BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE RPS. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.".
As I understand it the backup application log is at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\LOG. From that all I get is
2014-03-05 14:49:29.41 Backup Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2014-03-05 14:49:29.41 Backup BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE myDb. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
The command I am using is
BACKUP DATABASE [MyDb]
TO DISK = N'D:\Domains\SQL_Backup\DB\myDb\Mydb_FullBackup_20140305_1100.bak'
WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, NAME = N'mydb-Full Database Backup', SKIP, NOREWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10
GO
The database is Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64-bit) Version 9.00.1399.06.
The computer is Windows server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2
The Db is 191 Gb and there is 227 Gb available on the D drive where it's being backed up to.
Any thoughts as to how I can track down the problem.
Is the 227Gb of spare disk space big enough to back up a 191 Gb database?
If not how much is needed?
ThanksHello,
Can you apply latest service pack .I dont know but guess that can be issue.Once faced ,not quite sure. Also can you just make your command like
BACKUP DATABASE [MyDb]
TO DISK = 'D:\Domains\SQL_Backup\DB\myDb\Mydb_FullBackup_20140305_1100.bak'
WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, STATS = 10
GO
Just a simple one .Is backup failing immediately or after some time .Error is not so helpful as it does not shows any information

Hi Experts,
We have installed UISKPI01 in SAP NetWeaver Gateway System for Fiori Analytical Apps (KPI modeler is necessary to model the KPI) but while trying to create and Save the Group, we are Getting an error in KPI Modeler as "{"customMessage":"failed to detect the sap language of the current session language","status":500}". Similarly, when we are trying to edit the existing KPI template and assigning the Variants and Evaluations, we are facing the same error as failed to detect the sap language of the current session language","status":500.
Any idea on above error?
Thanking you,
~ MahendraHello Mahendra,
Check if you have entries in the T002 table of SAP_SSB schema.
If not follow the steps mentioned in the admin guide of SAP Smart business to populate data.
This should resolve this issue.
Note: My assumption is that, you are accessing the KPI modeler in English Language.
Thanks,
