Error after running root.sh on second node

hi,
i have installed clusterware on a 2 node system running on RHEL 5
i followed the prereqs , and solved all the errors i encountered
after clusterware installation , it asks to run root.sh on all the nodes
when i ran root.sh on second node
it gave this error
Running vipca(silent) for configuring nodeapps
/home/oracle/crs/oracle/product/10/crs/jdk/jre//bin/java: error while loading
shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory
so i follwed metalink note 414163.1
after that i called it a day
in the morning , wheni started both nodes
and started vipca on second node
it gave this error
PRKH:1010 unable to communicate with crs services
the i ran ps-ef | grep crs
root 3201 1 0 15:37 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /etc/init.d/init.crsd run
crsctl check crs gave
failure 1 contacting css daemon
cannot communicate with crs
cannot communicate with evm
what should i do to start these services?

crsd and cssd logs were empty and there was no relevant info in crs alert
i am just reinstalling clusterware now
one thing i wanted to ask
why does owner ship of raw files change back to root (after node restart)
even though i chnged them to oracle

    Hi Anand
Can you please control the following points please?
That on node1 in the /etc/hosts file the name of the private interconnect exist. But on node2 or the failing node it's missing the private interconnect in the /etc/hosts file. That should be the reason why the issue occurs.
Solution of The Problem might be to :
    1. Add the missing hostnames to /etc/hosts
    2. Stop and start CRS stack
Please confirm that this solves your issue.

Did you run cluvfy.sh before performing the instalation, if so did it report any errors. I would suggest running it now in "pre crsinst" mode and report any findings back. If CVU says everything is good then I would recommend talking to Oracle Support.
It looks like CSS is running on node1 at the end of its root.sh, yet its dead when root.sh is run on node 2.... makes me wonder if its root.2h on node2 thats killing it.
Run "cluvfy stage -pre crsinst" and post the output back to the forum please?

    On all nodes,
    1. Modify the /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm with:
    ORACLEASM_SCANORDER="dm"
    ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE="sd"
    2. restart the asmlib by :
    # /etc/init.d/oracleasm restart
    3. Run root.sh on the 2nd node

Based on error messages you are getting it narrows down to perl issue and invalid character present in perl script.
Have you or someone modified the perl script? Usually it is required to modify the scripts to point toproper perl location. Sometimes when you modify the script, the text editors could insert some characters in wrong encoding, etc. So I suggest to do comparison to perl scripts from the nodes with the same psu levels where installation was sucessfull., just compare filesize and if its different, then you could possible copy right scripts over current ones.
The GI installations are very hard to investigate remotely, there could be too many things that can be wrong, so oracle support is your friend.
As general thing I always recommend to install latest PSU before root.sh script execution.

    Hi,
I am almost through the clusterware installation. However, I am at the part where I have to run the root.sh scripts. When I run in on my first node I get the following message:

Do I need to worry about this? I'm pretty sure it is suppose to be error free.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Error while running root.sh

Hi, I am trying to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1.0) in my Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 and everything went fine from installing to linking it. But when it´s asked me to run root.sh as root it gives me an error while trying to install LSSV. It´s an dependency error with libncurses.so.4. orclclnt-nw_lssv.Build.71-1 needs this file I mentioned.
Is the installation of my OS with problems? I am not sure if this (libncurses.so.4) should be installed with the OS or if Oracle installs it! After that, I decided to ignore this error and tried to continue with the installation but dbca gives me an error. I don´t think it´s related with LSSV but I would like to make sure is that´s nothing wrong with the installation!
Can anyone help solve this problem? Thanks!

    Hi,
Rename the file and continue the installation again.

  • 10g R2 RAC on Solaris 10 error when running root.sh

hi, I am installing Oracle 10g rac on Solaris 10 with two nodes. In the end of the installation of RAC when a run root.sh I get the error bellow.
    # /opt/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/root.sh
Checking to see if Oracle CRS stack is already configured
Setting the permissions on OCR backup directory
    Setting up NS directories
Failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry configuration

I have done this install using a pair of T2000's and a 65XX SAN. The install doco is not straight forward. I had to compile a number of Metalink notes to eventually get the disk partitions sorted. Of particular help was Note:271621.1.
Since I am not a Solaris admin, the next bit is caveated as "This is how I did it" and maybe not how anyone else would have done it. These things were not explicitly noted, but gleaned through a bit of reading:
    1) you need to throw away the first cylinder of each LUN. I did this by creating the first partition as a single cylinder.
2)then create s4 (or whichever slice you desire) as the rest of the space allocated to that LUN.
    3) Repeat this for each LUN presented
    4) I created a directory /san under which I then created the character mode (raw) interface for each of ocr, vote.
    5) For asm, and for no other reason than being self documenting, I created /san/asm and created character mode interfaces to each of the LUN's for datadg and fradg
    6) repeat steps 1-5 on the other box
I took quite some time (2 days) to extract all this and assemble it to a working system. But has always been stable.

Can I just retry the root.sh on the 2nd node?  or, do I have to do some sort of cleanup and then retry?  Please advise....  Thanks, Adolfo

Are you using raw disk devices for Oracle 11g RAC? You might want to move to ASM. For starters, your version, 11.1 is no longer fully supported by Oracle Corp. You'll need to be on 11.2.0.3 or higher to be supported. The 11.2.0.3 version loses Extended Support in August I think. The 11.2.0.4 version loses Extended Support in January. All of this means your production Oracle RAC database should be on the 12c version by January. And guess what? Oracle 12c RAC does not support raw disk devices.
Since you're starting with this cluster fresh, why not aim for a configuration that will allow you to go forth into the foreseeable future without major configuration changes?
    Cheers,
    Brian

  • Oracle 9i export error after running catexp.sql file

After running catexp.sql file in oracle 9i 9.2.0.7.0 as system user,it gives the following error while logging
ORA-04020: deadlock detected while trying to lock object SYS.DBMS_STANDARD
    please help me..............

"catexp.sql" is to be run by SYS AS SYSDBA.
You'd have to cleanup any extra objects that you created in the SYSTEM account.
Why did you think that you needed to run "catexp.sql" ? Are you exporting using 9i exp against a 10g database or against a 9i database ?

  • Several errors after running catalog.sql

I did a fresh installation of oracle apps EBS 11.5.10.2 on Linux OEL and was trying to do an import/export and it was not working as expected. So after i looked at Oracle's documentation it said catalog.sql has to be run before using the import/export. So i ran catalog.sql first but i did not run it with SYSDBA but ran it as SYSTEM and i saw several errors like access denied etcv. after i ran the catalog.sql i was not able to login via apps or any other user except SYSTEM and was giving me erros like ORA-04065:not executed, altered or dropped stored procedure "SYS.DBMS_SESSION"
After this to fix the issue i ran @?/rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql and @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp as SYSDBA but both executed a lot of grants etc but are haging at some point and not finishing.
The current state of the database is that im not able to login via any user except SYSTEM and i think i corrupted the db dictionary as everywhere i see they say running catalog.sql on an existing database is a bad idea. Can anyone help?

    Hi Dheeraj,
My db version is 9.2.0.5.0 and OS is OEL 5.7.
The doc where it was mentioned to run catalog.sql before using import/export is below:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96652/ch01.htm
Please do not follow the steps in this link and instead follow the steps in (9i Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i [ID 230627.1]).
Currently when im trying to login using apps or any other user below are errors i get.
