Hi Everybody
I was able to reslove my issue. After I got the first error Oracle support asked to run it agian and I did not roll back anything.
opatch napply -skip_subset -skip_duplicate
The -skip_duplicate will not install the portions currently installed.
Second time I got following error:

Firstly, do you have a backup to fallback in a worse case situation?
Is the import still running at the OS level - please check whether there is any active tp process at the OS level and the import log files in the DIR_TRANS/tmp directory getting updated ? What are the contents of the files?

crystl32.ocx was retired in version 8.5 - almost ten years ago... Only reason I mention this is that if MS added something to oledlg.dll that makes the ocx not work, there is absolutely nothing that can be done in terms of fixes.
Now, to try to address the issue, you will have to provide more information:
    1) What version of CR are you using?
    2) What is the OS you are on?
    3) What is the actual error message?
    4) Can you duplicate the error on any computer that has the MS patch installed?
    5) What message do you get when you try to manually register the ocx?
    6) Do you have the latest patches for your version of CR?

  • New Archived log entry in alert log after cpu patch 19 applied

Has anyone applied October critical patch for 11.1.0.7? I applied the cpu Patch 19 (8892977) for 11.1.0.7 on several windows2008 servers and after the patch the alert log displays a new message everytime a redo log transfers. This only happens on servers that have archivelog on. It looks like there is some kind of trace set. Anyone know know what the message is?
    Thanks,
    Kathie

    Hi Mark!
Yes, Oracle informed me that this message is normal and is only used for formational purposes. I should just ignore it.
Did you apply patch19? I have also found issues with a high amount of "waits" of type of "other". Some jobs are running slightly slower also. Also, if you check your "database health link" on dbconsole home page you will see consistant "non-critical" alerts. I don't have these alerts on servers not yet patched. This alerts appear to be caused by wait events of "other".

  • How to apply CPU patch

    Hi...guys...
I want to apply the CPU patch for 2-NODE RAC Database..
Actually I never applied patches..plz can any one guide me how to apply the CPU patches for RAC...
    As per as my knowledge..
    1.apply the patch for clusterware.
2.apply the patch for database level...
    is its right...
Another thing is how to upgrade the 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4 for RAC ...
    plz help me..

    Hi,
you are right, clusterware always has to be on the same or higher patchlevel as/than the database so you will patch it first. Generally, the hardest part is finding the patch on metalink, once you have found it, there is a readme with every patch that has very detailed instructions on what to do. For CPUs and other patches, you will generally bring down services on one node, then run opatch on that node. Once it is done patching, it will tell you to restart all services on that first node and shut down services on the other node(s). Once you hit OK opatch will continue to patch the remote hosts.
The upgrade to 10.2.0.4 will be a bit more complicated. AFAIR there is a real installer with that one and once you are done patching the software you also have to patch the database itself which means downtime.

  • Oracle cpu patch apr/july/oct/jan

    Hi Guys,
    Need you advise here.
Do you guys always apply the cpu patch upon released by oracle? Is it a good practise to do so?
Does CPU patch only consist of security fix or also bug fix?
    thanks

It is recommended to apply CPU patches as soon as possible. CPU patches only fix security issues, they do not contain other bug fixes.

  • APPLYING CPU PATCHES

    Hi Hussein:
I am planning to apply the CPU patches for my EBS instance. I know that the application server and the Database server patchsets are cumulative. So I can apply the latest CPU.But the EBS patchsets are not cumulative. In order to get the list of all the patches that needs to be applied since April 2006,I need to query AD_APPLIED_PATCHES with the EBS patch numbers since April 2006 right? Is this the right approach.
    Regards,
    Bala

    Bala,
If your instance release is 11i then you are correct. You need to query AD_APPLIED_PATCHES (I would prefer querying AD_BUGS table) to get the list of applied patches.
In R12, CPU patches are cumulative.

  • CPU Patch Project

This is the project i have been assigned need suggestion, queris to check CPU,(qualified DBs), Road map...etc, any other suggestion
    PHASE I
    1) Identify all the existing oracle versions across the board for the preparation of cpu patch ===> you can logon to many servers and find out or contact the individual DBA to do it for you or ask India team to help you.
    2) Identify the oracle versions qualified for cpu patch on non-prod env for the preparation of cpu patch
    3) Identify the oracle versions need to be upgraded for applying the cpu patch on non-prod env for the preparation of cpu patch
    4) Identify the oracle versions qualified for cpu patch on prod env for the preparation of cpu patch
    5) Identify the oracle versions need to be upgraded for applying the cpu patch on prod env for the preparation of cpu patch
    PHASE II
6)Check with the customer if we can test/install the cpu patch on the lab server & upgrade/cpu patch if we get the approval
    7) Work with the customer to get an outage on non-prod qualified databases and schedule the change window for cpu patch
    8) Work with the customer to get an outage on prod qualified databases and schedule the change window for cpu patch
    9) Work with the customer to upgrade the oracle versions if the application is compatible with the upgraded version of oracle
    10) If the customer provides acceptance for the upgrade, the databases will be upgraded and the cpu patch will be installed by the DBAs with in a maintenance window.

See also the Oracle On Demand Best Practices Critical Patch Update white paper which is a good reference document on CPU patching project.
However it seems that since July 2007, CPU patch will now also include many bug fixing for non security issues which might change application behaviour and raise the question about application testing needed. For example,
4711525 - PARSING BITMAPPED PLANS IS 3X TIMES MORE COSTLY
    4712638 - ORA-00600 [15160] ORA-7445[KKOGBRO]
    4722645 - ORA-7445 ON COMPLEX QUERY
There are 319 fixes in 6079588 (10.2.0.2 for Linux) but only 19 security fixes according to http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/critical-patch-updates/cpujul2007.html#AppendixA.

I am using SUNOS SPARC 64 bit server. I am going to apply JAN 2010 CPU patch. In the README.html file, i see one step as below.
If CPUOct2009 has not been applied, ensure that MLR (Merge Label Request) bugs 9054847 and 9054851 have been applied.
My question is, how do i ensure that, MLR has been already applied? Any help is highly appreciated.

If patches 9054847 and 9054851 have not been applied, you will need to apply them before proceeding to apply the CPU patch. Pl see the README files of the two patches for install instructions.

  • Apply quaterly CPU to CRS home?

    Hello experts,
I am in the process of upgrading 4 node RAC cluster from 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.3. However I have a doubt to which I am unable to find a good solution or document yet.
I have two ORACLE_HOME, a CRS and db_1 home on my Linux server and they both are on 10.2.0.2. My db_1 home has upto date CPU applied.
Now my question is, before upgrading to 10.2.0.3, do I need to apply the CPU patches to CRS home? I am bit confused.
Also is there any metalink document (other than the document that comes with the upgrade patch) on how to safely upgrade to 10.2.0.3?
    Thank you in advance.
    --M M

Thanks troach, I agree with you that latest patch set has all the fixes upto point. However, since I have two oracle_homes and the fact that I have applied the patches to db home only (not CRS home), I am not quite sure if I need to apply security patches to CRS home too so that both homes can be on the same patcheset (CPUs) before I start upgrading.
The reason I am asking is, according to Upgrade Document, CRS version should be higher or equal to the current db home version and I am not quite sure if I need to apply CPUs on CRS home first to make it consistent the db home before upgrading CRS to 10.2.0.3
Also, thanks for the advice to go to 10.2.0.4. However, my company's policy is against upgrading to newer patch set right away.
    Thanks for your time again...

  • Oracle10g CPU patch

Hello, I need some more explanation about oracle cpu patch.
here is the DB i am using...
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.4.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
It seems like, they are applying oracle cpu patch for this DB. What is CPU patch? What is the purpose the CPU patch? I googled and not very clear. Any help is highly appreciated.

    Hi,
Just FYI.. Oracle releases CPU patches every quarter and recommends to apply these patches ASAP. And CPU patches are always cumulative. So Qtr 4 patch will contain all cpu patches related before for the version.

  • CPU Patch related question

    Hi all,
We are using Oracle 9.2.0.6 on RHEL4 64 bit
What is the use of CPU patch.Ealier we are using Sun Solaris server but after migrating to rhel, we are getting problem in one of the applicaion module.
but i don't know whether we are haing any cpu patch applied on the sun server.
and which patch should i applied for oracle 9.2.0.6 and how to apply it.
Does the steps to apply the CPU patch is same as it is applying the patchset of 9.2.0.6.
    Please suggest me.

As CPU's are security patches (which you can get from Metalink), did you even consider visiting Metalink?
    You would have found
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:10:5691407109246679955::::ALLTEXT,ANYTEXT,EXCTEXT,NONTEXT,KNOWLEDGE,PRODUCT_ID,PLATFORM_ID,SS,ST,NUMHITS,FILTCRIT,FILTCRITVAL:CPU,,,,TRUE,,,0,DR,100,2,Support.CriticalPatchUpdates
Metalink answers all questions on CPU.
You should use available resources, as per the Forums Etiquette post, PRIOR to asking them here, forcing volunteers to summarize or abstract information which IS already on your doorstep.
And you would have noticed you need 9.2.0.8 to apply CPU's.
I also suggest you only ask questions after you have done some research. You shouldn't ask questions like this, and they don't deserve an answer. You can find the answer yourself with little effort.
You seem to think the only thing you need to know to work as a DBA is how to use this forum to ask all of your doc questions. You won't get far this way.
