Error calling external procedure on remote server
Hello
I have written an external procedure that runs correctly when it is on the same machine as the database from which I call it. (Windows XP Professional/Oracle 9.2)
When I try to call the procedure from a database on another machine (also Windows XP Professiona l/ Oracle 9.2) I get ORA - 28756 "lost RPC connection to external procedure agent" or ORA - 28758 "protocol error during callback from an external procedure". Using filemon I can see that the DLL is never searched for or called. The problem seems to lie in the communication between the two machines. When I observe network traffic the machines communicate on port 1521 (the listener) and then switch to the port that the listener returns. Shortly after that the connection is terminated with the above error reported in the PL/SQL routine.
The Oracle Administrator's Guide (9.2) states that "the agent must reside on the same computer as the application making the external procedure call." However there are several entries on the internet that show how to do what I am want to accomplish - I suspect I am making some small mistake.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here is the listener on the machine with the DLL.

Problem in Calling External Procedure
Hello,
I am trying to call external procedure written in C from PL/SQL.
Here are the codes :
For external procedure:
#include<stdio.h>
void extproc_fn ( void )
FILE * file_handle;
if (( file_handle = fopen ( "/root/cprogs/extproc.out", "a" )) != NULL )
fwrite ( "External Procedure Testing", 26, 1, file_handle );
fclose ( file_handle );
I have created library as :
create or replace library extproc_lib as '/root/cprogs/extproc.so';
And the procedure :
create or replace procedure extproc_proc as
external
name "extproc_fn"
library extproc_lib
language c;
My listener and tnsname is configured correctly.
But when I try to connect to Oracle by that tnsname, extproc program core dumps under $ORACLE_HOME/network/log directory. Under WinNT, it creates a Dr. Watson error.
Any idea what might have gone wrong.
Thanks in advance.
Soumen Ghoshhi there,
everything u did is correct as far as i recollect about external procedures ,the only thing that i suppose is missing is that u forgot to grant permissions on the library to the user...pls check this once i hope this works...

Can't call a VI from remote server
I have a VI running on a labview development machine(Labview 2010), the main function is handling excel report using report generator. I follow the link http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14469/en to set up labview machine and teststand machine respectly. But when I tried to call the VI from remote server, it is still not able to load the VI front panel and show the connectors. See the attachment. It looks like it still trying to load VI from local drive because it can't find the builded-in subvis for report generator function.
What should I do to make it work? Thanks!
Solved!
Go to Solution.
Attachments:
TestStand error.png 107 KBFor those interested in the solution, the problem turned out to be two things.
The first is if you want to be able to load a prototype of the VI in TestStand, you will need to either share the VI or create a dummy VI. If the shared VI uses subVIs you do not have access to, then you are better of creating a dummy VI that has matching connector panes.
The second problem had to do with how the remote VI path was specified. If you have shared the VI, then you will enter in the shared folder path as your remote VI path. If you have not shared it, then you will need to enter in the VI path as it is on the remote machine.

When I connect to the SharePoint site that contains the lists I need to build my query from , Power Query enumerates the list and displays them in the tool. I can click on the system tables and view the records but any table
in the list I created returns this error.
I can connect fine with InfoPath
[DataSource.Error] SharePoint: Request failed: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. (An error occurred while processing this request.)
thank you for your help
Andrew
Hi Andrew. In order for us diagnose this issue, you'll need to capture some network traces using a tool such as Fiddler and share them by sending a Frown.
To capture a trace using Fiddler, start Fiddler, enable the Tools > Fiddler Options > HTTPS > Decrypt HTTPS traffic option, start the capture, reproduce your issue, then stop and save the capture. You can find more information here.
Once you've done that, please send a Frown through the Power Query ribbon and attach the traces.
Thanks,

Seeing this error when retrieving data from a SharePoint list. I have full access to the list. Any help would be appreciated.

I think I figured out how to use Fiddler. Here's the information I captured-
This is a Tunnel. Status: OPEN, Raw Bytes Out: 3,797; In: 7,604
The selected session is a HTTP CONNECT Tunnel. This tunnel enables a client to send raw traffic (e.g. HTTPS-encrypted streams or WebSocket messages) through a HTTP Proxy Server (like Fiddler).
To enable Fiddler's HTTPS-decryption feature and view decrypted traffic, click Tools > Fiddler Options > HTTPS.

So can any one tell me whats the problem. ?You got an NEP on the server, which points to either a misconfiguration of the server (is hte adf runtime installed?) or an error in your app.
What did you deploy? an EAR? Are the connections configured correctly? Have you check other logs on the remote server?
Which jdev Version? Which remote server?

Error calling a procedure from AM
Hi,
I am getting the following error while trying to call a procedure from AM. I have checked and all the parameters are being passed correctly. Not sure why this is throwing error. Below is the error message.
oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'AbcPositionDetails'
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
PKPk,
The exception "wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'AbcPositionDetails'" means you are passing wrong parameter types to the procedure or the parameter arguement is differrent.
for example if the procedure definition is AbcPositionDetails(*x* in varchar2, y in varchar2) , you are calling in AM
Like Call procedure (begin AbcPositionDetails(*z* => :1 , t => :2) ; end;
To resolve the issue, you should call the procedure (begin AbcPositionDetails*(x* => :1 , y => :2) ; end;
i.e. The definition of the procedure should not change
(or) You can call like this (begin AbcPositionDetails( :1 , :2) ; end;
thanks,

Error using EXTERNAL PROCEDURES on UNIX
I'm having troubles to run external procedures on UNIX. I'm following the extern.c example that comes by default. It works very well on my NT enviornment, but not on Unix.
I compiled the share library on my solaris OS, and then I create the library, procedures,etc.

Package: Difference between calling external procedures vs. internal
I have a package which has a bunch of procedures. I have decided to move one of the procedures outside the package because there is a user that needs control over the SQL in it. I pass 2 dates into it so I don't think I can create a view. My question is this:
What is the difference in syntax to call a procedure outside the package as opposed to one inside the package?I don't think I've ever been in the position of having a stand-alone procedure with the same name as a packaged procedure and needing to call the stand-alone one from within the package, but it is still possible:
SQL> CREATE PROCEDURE p
2 AS
3 BEGIN
4 DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('This is the stand-alone procedure');
5 END;
6 /
Procedure created.
SQL> CREATE PACKAGE pkg
2 AS
3 PROCEDURE testit;
4 END;
5 /
Package created.
SQL> CREATE PACKAGE BODY pkg
2 AS
3 PROCEDURE p
4 IS
5 BEGIN
6 DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('This is a procedure in package PKG');
7 END;
8
9 PROCEDURE testit
10 IS
11 BEGIN
12 william.p;
13 END;
14 END;
15 /
Package body created.
SQL> exec pkg.testit;
This is the stand-alone procedure
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

Error calling external web service over HTTPS
Hi everyone
I'm trying to call an external web service over HTTPS, and continually get the following error:
com.sap.engine.services.webservices.espbase.wsdl.exceptions.WSDLException: Peer sent alert: Alert Fatal: handshake failure
I haven't tried doing this before, so not quite sure where to start. I have a client certificate that must be used to access the remote web service, and I think the problem is associating the client cert with the web service call.
Has anyone else tried this before? Any suggestions of where to look?
I've had a brief look at Key Storage in NWA, but it's not something I'm familiar with - so not sure if it's even the right place to be looking.
Some help on this would be great!
Thanks
StuartThanks Aleksandar
Here's the output from the trace. Unfortunately the SAP forums don't allow attachments, so it may be difficult to read. Please let me know if you see anything that may help.
Thanks
Stuart

How to call stored procedure in remote database
Hi:
I have a stored procedure in Oracle 8i database A on server A. I would like to call a stored procedure in Oracle 8i database B on server B. Both servers are on the same network.
Is there an easy way to accomplish this using PL/SQL?
What's the "best practice" for this?
Thanks for your help!
RobI simply want to make a call from a procedure on server A to an insert procedure on server B. The procedure which is on server B should execute on server B. Is this what I need?
Thanks!
I assume you want to initiate the procedure from server B and executed on server A. Is that right ?
1. Create a database link on server B
CREATE DATABASE LINK databaseA.world CONNECT TO username identified by password using 'DATABASEA';
2. Create synonym for the procedure
CREATE SYNONYM proc_on_databaseB for [email protected];
3. Execute the procedure using the new synonym.
HTH,
Allwyn

Error calling stored procedure from MFC using odbc
Hello,
I am using MFC to call a stored procedure written in PL/SQL, but when I make the call I get the next error in Spanish:
"No se enlazaron columnas antes de llamar a SQLFetchScroll o SQLExtendedFetch", which more or less in English means:
"No rows were binded before calling SQLFetchScroll or SQLExtendedFetch".
I am using a CRecordset derived class to access the stored procedure. I am unable to find the error.
