Error in changing data type

i have a table test with column data and datatype is varchar2(35).In this date value is stored
now i want to change the datatype to timestamp(3)
i am changing as below
ALTER table test
ADD testcolumn timestamp(3);
its adding column
UPDATE test
SET testcolumn = data;
but its giving error not a valid month

Check for
UPDATE test
SET testcolumn = to_timestamp(data,'date formant in which the data is say if it 01/28/2009 then MM/DD/YYYY HH24:MI:SS:ffx');Regards.

Change data type from number(11,6) to number (11,8)

I have a table, which has a million records...I have to change data type of some of the columns from number (11,6) to number (11,8).
I thought of taking the backup of the table , truncating the original table, change the data type and then insert data back.
Is it a safe option considering so many records ?

Changing data types of fields in structures

Hello,
   Currently we are working for upgrade to ECC 6.0 .
   In some transactions we are using BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA to create material.
We have some additional fields in MARA and MARC table , which we fill using BAPI_TE_MARA and BAPI_TE_MARC structures.
    In these structures we have different data types for fields earlier in 4.6C
Now this function module is only working if we change data types of fields in these structures only to char type. It is going for dump , if we maintain any other data type.
Could any body tell me why should we change for char data type ?

Hi,
Check enhancement category (Extras --> Enhancement Category) for structures before enhancement. For example, for BAPI_TE_MARA structure, enhancement category is given as character type or numeric type. That means you can add the fields of data type only C and N. No other data types are allowed. If you select as not classified then you can add any data type. This option plays important role while enhancement.

How to change data type of attribute in caf

hi.
this is my problem.
i been added a attribute in an entity service called emloyee. named "Birthday", use the data type "com.sap.caf.core.date".
when i tried modify the entity service, i hit exception about "DST Daylight Saving Time".
because of DST, the date will add an hour such like "1957/04/01 00:00:00.0" to "1957/04/01 01:00:00.0", and com.sap.caf.core.date will throw an exception.
is anyone had same problem like me?
how to fixed it(if passable)?
and, how to change data type?

Hi Sruthi,
all you need to do on this is open the report go to the parameters, select the parameter that you wish to change and click "Edit". This will allow you to change thefield to a date rather than a date time.

Replicat : GGS ERROR 171 Unknown data type received 0x54 49 .

I am trying to run an initial load as shown in the tutorial at http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/goldengate/11g/GGS_Sect_Config_WinUX_ORA_to_WinUX_ORA.pdf and I am seeing this error in the REPLICAT process.
I have tried using the SOURCEDEFS clause as well (Even though the source and Target structures are exactly similar), but I run into the same issue.
** Run Time Messages **
*2011-04-14 12:02:15 GGS ERROR 171 Unknown data type received <0x54 49>.*
The only other Indication that I see in the report file is the following Warning message
*2011-04-14 12:02:15 GGS WARNING 201 Rounding up LOBWRITESIZE 32528 to be a multiple of LOB chunk size (16324).*
LOBWRITESIZE = 32648 bytes.

Looks like the error is because we have ASM set up at our place.. and I did not pay enough attention to this part of the tutorial Guide..
Note: When Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is in use, the TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER and ASMPASSWORD must be set in the Extract parameter file. For more information refer to the GoldenGate for Windows & UNIX Administrator and Reference manuals.
Posting the reply here so that It'd be useful for anyone running into the same issue later.

Error changing data type to date in column containing blanks

I am pulling data from an OLAP cube into PowerPivot. My data set contains several date columns wich are formatted as YYYY-MM-DD string values. After successfully importing the data, I am trying to set the data type of these columns to date.
Apparently, when the column contains blank values, the conversion fails:
The following system error occurred: Type mismatch. Datatype conversion failed for [Table: 'SO fact table', Column: 'Shipping Date LastDateDate', Value: ''].
When the column contains no blanks, the conversion succeeds.
Would anyone have an idea for working around this issue ?
Is there some MDX magic that I could use in my query in order to cast blank dates to something that PowerPivot would accept to convert, or to make the conversion to the date format right at the source ?

I did a quick test with data from Excel sheet formatted as text containing ISO date values with one blank value, in Power Pivot I then changed it to type "Date" and it works without an issue; so it must have an other reason:

Error While creating Data type from a XSD

Hi,
I am trying to import a XSD into my Data type. I have changed the namespace in the XSD to match that of the target namespace. I am getting the following error.
Global definition Element: http://ls.sbc.com/OMS/ProcessSalesOrderEFE004,   orderRequest in the schema to be edited will be ignored
Schema to be edited defines qualified element names (elementFormDefault = 'qualified')
Could any help me out in this regard. I don't have much knowledge about XML and XSD.

Issue with Info Object Transport after changing Data Type

Hi Experts,
We have a DSO which is running past 5 years. And recently(3 days back) we added new fields into that DSO. Delta loaded for last three days and new info object (Say XXX) data populated into DSO.
Now the problem is, We identified that, info object data type is not correct. We used data type NUMC instead of CHAR.So Character information is missing for that field.
Example:
Data from ECC: ABC123
Data Loaded to DSO: 123 (Missed character ABC)
So we deleted data from DSO and changed the info object data type in Development system.
And also I have deleted only last three days delta records from DSO and transported my info object to Production. But its giving error as: Info object contains data in DSO".
But that info object field is empty in DSO. I have already deleted last three days delta.
Do I need to Delete all 5 years data from DSO to change the data type of recently added new info object ?
Please give me your solutions and ideas to solve this issue.

Thank you for your answer.
When I changed the data type of info object in Dev, I deleted the content of DSO. And same thing transported to QA as well. Before importing changed info object, I just deleted the content of DSO from QA. So transport done successfully QA.
But in Production we have a history of past 5 years. So I cant delete all contents of DSO.
So just deleted only the delta request's which contains data for that info object(3 days back, we moved that info object(NUMC data type) to production,So last 3 days delta only loaded for that info object). And tried to transport it. But it was failed. I am sure we need to drop all data from DSO, if I am interested to go with same info object.
I have some comments on your first approach,
1. If we delete info objects from Dev DSO and transport to Production will give transport failure, Why because, my previous transports errors clearly saying that info object contains data in DSO . So it wont allow to remove that info object from DSO.
2.We are using same info object technical name in BO Data federator also. So if we change add new info objects again we need to make changes with BO as well. I am thinking this point as my last option if i cant find any other solution.

The reason for the error is you are applying a TO_CHAR function to a character datatype. SIDATE is a character. That field should be a date field. If for some reason, you need it to stay as a character field then you will need to change it to a date then change it back to a character.
TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(SIDATE,'put format here'),'YYYYMMDD')

I have one flat file from here i am locating Gross weight value.. moving it to the text field.. after doing some calculations i want insert this value into ztable.. but in ztable the data type is QUAN.. but in report I was reading from flat file as a text.. while uploading the data it shows me runtime error... Since the table with which you are deaking is a ztable,
find out two things when you post your clarification next time.
1) Do you have an access to change the DE of the field in the ztable
2) Do you know perfectly whether the data from the text file will always be in the same format

Replication - Error with real data type

I have a replication problem on a certain SQL Server 2012 build 2100. First of all:
- Tables are the same on Publisher and Subscriber (double-checked)
The problem is 8152 - String or binary would be truncated. Since I know this error, I looked for the command (xact_seqno) and it shows:

My problem is the value "2.81122997072606E-313" since this field is a real field. I dont understand that. The Value is way to small and a SELECT in the Publisher-DB shows a "1". Does anybody has an idea?

returns "1". The reported value wont fit in a real-field or am I missing something? I tested this and it would fill in a "0" for such a tiny number. Therefore it cant be in the publisher database. Also tested with SELECT MIN(EV_Anteil)
and returned "0.02040816" with another PK of course.
Other Options in Transactional Replication:
Replicate schema changes - True
Copy objects all to false, except clustered index, unique key constraints, Collation and INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE stored procedures
Convert data types = False

Error While Creating Date type condition query

well that problem is a long time back -. I only have in mind that the date I had to transfer to the quesry was in a "strange" format. Have a lock into the documentation for the date field - your date field is not recognised as a date field from the quesry engine and so this fails - but unfortunately I have no idea at the moment how I fixed it last time - how I converted my date field......
Sorry, thast I can not give you the real point - but I will have a lock into the old code - hopefully I find it soon.

Impact of changing data type of a field in Database table

Hi All,
I need to change the data type of a field(which is not a key field and it has no dependency with any other field) from NUMC to CHAR by maintaining the same length. Please let me know if there will be any impact in doing this. Hope the following things need to be taken care:
- Take backup of entire data in the table before doing the change
- After changing the data type, I need to set the option 'Save Data' and then 'Activate and Adjust Database' in 'Database Utility'.
- Use 'Where Used List' to check the related objects.
Please let me know if there is any impact or any thing else need to be taken care apart from the above things.

even if the length is same there would be no impact.
just v need to adjust the database in the database utility.
check the table maintenence generator also. if not reflected there u need to delete it and create it again.
