Error in creating Text Variable

Hi Gurus,
I have one requirement to create a text variable for the user & the user wants to put the description as input to the variable.
But when i am creating the variable,the variable type "characteristic Value" is by default selected and i am also unable to change the variable type to text variable.
Please any body have the solution to resolve the error.

Hi,
Just select a particular key figure and on the right side you will see its properties..
Now just besides the description of the key figure you will find a symbol for create variables, just click on that.. It will create a text variable...

Select 'Variables' after right clicking on bpel process. IN this window, go to 'Create VAriable' then select 'Element' type. Now in Type Choose, I expanded the my imported schema files. And selected a element type, then click ok to create this variable... I am getting the message...
IN ORDER TO SAVE IMPORTED WSDL/SCHEMA FILES, YOU MUST HAVE A PARTNER LINK LOCATED UNDER THE CURRENT PROJECT DIRECTORY.
What is mean by that.
I have imported the schema files in project. AFter that I have imported them into the WSDL also. Now why I am getting error while creating the variable. However I can create variable directly in .BPEL file then everything is fine. And it is working also. But what is mean with the above error? Why I am not able to create variable through GUI?

I have this same problem this morning, and I was going crazy, until I found this webpage on the internet:

The idea is that the jdeveloper is not very good working with directories with spaces on the directory name. If you move all your work to a directory without spaces, it will work smoothly. At least, it had worked for me.

How can i create Text Variables in Bex Q.D.
I am able to create characteristic variables
but i can't find option to create text variables.
What's the requirement to create Text variables in Bex Q.D.
When i try to create Text variable for 0calDay.. the variable type is characteristic by Default and disabled.
How can i create text variables related to 0CalDay with which i need to work in Customer Exit.

You have to create characteristic variable processing by Customer Exit by considering 0CalDay as a Reference Characteristic
After creation of the above variable, you restrict your KF with the above created variable.
Now you can create a Text variable for the description of your KF. This way it works...........

Creating text variable, urgent plz

Hi friends,
           I would like to create a text variable on fiscalyear/period. the requirement is
when user enters 001.2007   it has to display jan2007
                           002.2007   it has to display feb2007 so on.
   but when I am trying to create on fiscalyear/period it is not allowing me to create text variable. can any one suggest me please, it is an urgent requirement,

we can do this with the text with replacement path and the var which u have created u to put display as text thats it...
take a selection in the rows and create a variable in the text heading and give replacement fron the user entry default variable which the user enters.

User created text variables don't work anymore...What's going on? Help! Captivate 4.

Captivate 4 issue.
Okay, I use Captivate 4 almost every day for eLearning development, so I know the program pretty well.
As our LMS is horribly difficult to use, I typically create a certificate at the end of the course I am working on that will display the user's name on it that they can print and give to their supervisor.
On the first page of the course, I put a text entry box in where they key in their name, and I capture that in a user variable (typically called staff_name) that I then drop into a text caption on the certificate.
This has worked successfully numerous times.
Now, for some reason, it doesn't. One of two things happen:
1. The entire text caption with the variable in it does not display....it's just a blank space where that caption should be, and that includes any other text in the caption.
2. The caption appears with all of the other words...just not the variable.
Is there anything that I might have overlooked? Some strange captivate bug where user created text variables disappear over time.
Oh yea, that reminds me...system variables don't work either. I put the date string on the certificate as well, and that wasn't showing up either.
It's like all of a sudden, the ability of Captivate 4 to drop a variable into a text caption just doesn't work anymore.
Ideas?

Hi Lilybiri.
It's been awhile since this post...I ended up just re-installing Captivate onto my system, and that cleared up the problem.
It has since, however, reared its ugly head again.
I had a lesson set up that had a page counter at the bottom. Simply said "Page 1 of 25" then "2 of 25" etc. on each page using the current slide info and slide count variables.
It worked perfectly up until today when a reviewer suggested changing the caption text to simply "2/25"
So, I edited the caption with the variable, and the exact same symptoms described above came to pass again....any text captions with variables in it will not show up in the running .swf file. I tried deleting the .dat file, and that didn't help. In addition, the variable length is not 0.
As I work remotely and re-installing captivate would take hours upon hours (or a trip to the office) I don't see re-installing it as a viable option at this point.
Anyway, it's pretty frustrating, and an obvious bug. I wish my company would just upgrade to 6 already...
Other ideas, though?

I'm new into posting to this forum, but I always come here when I need some answers and I find them almost everytime.
But now I couldn't find a solution for my problem so I decided that maybe you can help me.
I'm using BEx Broadcaster (I'm working on a SAP BW 7.0, SP17) to broadcast to SAP Portal some Excel files generated from a query.
I use Filter Navigation, because the query provides me with information regarding Sales Orders from all my customers and I need to broadcast an Excel file per customer. This is working perfectly, meaning, with this query I put the Broadcaster generating an Excel file per Customer.
The problem is that I needed that each Excel file had a different name on it.
For example, for Customer1 the Excel file name should be something like Customer1_SalesOrder.xls, for Customer2 it should be Customer2_SalesOrder.xls and so on.
At the present, the Broadcaster generates each Excel file using the technical name of the Query that originated the file. You can use some stardard text variables that broadcaster has available, but these standard text variables don't solve my problem. I needed to create my own Text Variables so I could have the Customer ID on the file name.
Can someone give me a light on this?

I have a similar requirement, where I publish my reports on to the SAP PORTAL KM folders.
In my broacast setting for the web templates, I have the fisrt tab called
TARGET in PORTAL
File Name : ReportXX MONTHLY_<MONTH_ID> (F4) List
Currently I use the sys variable <MONTH_ID> which gives me the curr month;
My requirement is
If the report is run in the first week of the month, I want to generate a filename_PREVIOUS MONTH (label) and
if the report is run between 7th-30th of the month then to generate a filename_CURRENT MONTH (label)..
On BI.7 POTAL is it possible using some exit variables instead of the system variable which are given in the F4 List.
If so where do I create the exit variable in BW backend or the PORTAL itself so that I can access it from the F4list of of the filename column.

Error while Creating Presentation variable

Hi,I am new to OBIEE
I am facing this error:
"A numeric value was expected (received "max("Sales Measures".Dollars)").
Error Details
Error Codes: EHWH2A7E"
1.I am using paint rpd.I want to use presentation variable.
2.So i took two column in criteria 1.Region 2. Dollars
3.In Dollars edit formula ,I created presentation variable i.e. @{Doller_presentation}{max("Sales Measures".Dollars)} in the column formula.
4.And In the same column i use filter
Add ->presentation variable->variable exp =Doller_presentation and default =max("Sales Measures".Dollars)
5.I have added this request on dashboard page,but error is coming.
6.Also i have created dashboard prompt,
Set presentation variable to "Doller_presentation"
and in column formula :@{Doller_presentation}{max("Sales Measures".Dollars)}
and took that prompt on the same dashboard page.
so promt with 2 values are coming.1.All choces 2.13087528..may be ths is max value of dollar but on click its showing error as
"Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).

But i have one more doubt i.e if have created the Presentation variable in the dashboard prompt and I want to use it in a report
i.e the scenario is If I have created a new column i.e " Revised Salary " in the Presentation Services and want the values to be entered there dynamically upon end users choice. For ex the end user selecrts value of 1 then the report would display an increament of 500 to all the employees in the " Revised Salary " column and if the end user select value of 2 .. the report would display a decrement of 500 in the " Revised salary column".

Got an error while creating bind variables using sql database.

iam going to use sql database for ADF-BC .
i created the bind variable and apply the bind position for the corresponding variable in the view object editor.when i click test it shows me "query is valid". when i tried to run that it gives me two errors.
1) sql error during statement preparation.(ie) select empid ,empname......from the emptable where empid like :'emp' and
2) [Microsoft][SQl server 2000 driver for jDBC] invalid parameter bindings
i need help to know the solution for this...(or) is there any other way to create bind variable ......

The 3 binding styles supported by JDev:
Oracle Named - ie. SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = :vEmp (note colon and variable name)
Oracle Positional - ie SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = :1 (note colon)
JDBC Positional - ie SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = ?
Literally this query is sent to the database to execute, then the bind variables values are applied as a separate database operation. If SQL Server doesn't suport any of these binding styles, it's not going to work. As Chris Noonan suggests, try the JDBC Positional style though as you're using a JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server and it should support that style (the others are Oracle styles), and make sure you've switched the binding style on the VO query page to "JDBC Positional" too.
You must also on the VO bind variable page define your bind variables.
Also read the 10.1.3 JDev guide on ADF Business Components and View Object bind variables.

Error in creating Formula Variable

I'm having problems in creating formula variable. Trying to create FV on a characteristic using replacement path with attribute value , but the wierd part is it's not giving me any attributes it's just blank. Any help would be appreciated....

Right click on the FM, create -> Characteristic -> attribute value -> but the attribute are not showing up. This happens if the attribute is of key figure type. I was able to do this in another system (ASIA DEV) but now trying in Europe Dev.

How to Create a Text Variable

Can you please explain me how to create a Text variable...
In my Cube i had 3 different date fields....
and as per my requirment i need to create a rolling report for which will display data for 6 months rolling.
As the date field which i need to use is not mapped to Time Char's (Cal Year,Cal Month...etc)
For that reason i created below customer exit variable and used offset variables to achieve the rolling 6 months report
Code used for Customer Exit VAriable:
WHEN 'ZC_Cmonth1'. " Current Cal Month Car Expiry
IF i_step = 2.
      CLEAR l_s_range.
determine date
    LV_SYDAT     = SY-DATUM.
    LV_YEAR_ACT = SY-DATUM+0(4).
    LV_MONTH_ACT = SY-DATUM+4(2).
Set begin date of intervall
CONCATENATE LV_YEAR_ACT LV_MONTH_ACT '01' INTO LV_DATE_LOW.
Set end date of intervall
CONCATENATE LV_YEAR_ACT LV_MONTH_ACT '31' INTO LV_DATE_HIGH.
Fill ranges-tab with: include all values between beginning of year
and actual date
CLEAR E_T_RANGE.
CLEAR L_S_RANGE.
L_S_RANGE-SIGN = 'I'.

In your specific requirement select the which ever the keyfigure you want to analyse, go to edit mode of keyfigure propeties there select the newvariable type and create the Text variable by maintaining the proper offset start and length and also maintain the in whcih format u want see the month name in column headers. Maintain the Text format or key format. it totally depends on u r requirement.

Text variable creation Error.

Hello gurus ,
I am working in BI 7
I have to design a Report in which i want follwoing key figures in column
Net volume (User entry range of month)      Billing Product (same range of month)
Now the trickiest part is that whatever user enters on Selection Screen i.e the range of month of year they wanted to see the output,
they also want to see the same range entered in Report output.
For e.g.
user enters   Jan-March 2007
Then in query output it shuld show
Net volume (Jan-March 2007)      Billing Product (Jan-March 2007)
Like wise.
So if it aggregates the data for January to March , there is no worries.
What i did?
I restricted Net volume in Selection screen with Fiscal year/period.
I restricted Fiscal year/period with Standard Interval range variable.(Because in its technical name the prefix was "0")
Then i tried creating Text variable, and tried to include it in Description,
BUT OVER THERE WHILE INCLUDING IT , I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE INTERVAL RANGE VARIABLE.
So i tried creating my own variable, and tried to use it.
IF i use my own created variable everywhere i dont get output.
But if i use Standard SAP provided variable everywhere, I am unable to include it while creating Text variable.
Where did i go wrong ?
For text variable i followed this procedure
Message: Create Text Var - >Type of var - Text ->Processing type - Replca Path ->Time char on which u hav created the interval var ->Replcaement Path - > Replacement Tab : Replacement Variable -Variable - > Variable - Giv the Interval Variable
- > Replace with key or text.

Noviced,
Best to create your own but you will need two. One to show you the From value and one to show you the To Value.
When you are selecting the display type, you will see an option on that Dialogue box to show the From or To.

SSM 7.0 - Text variable error - Could not acces to Reports

Hi SSM experts,
We are implementing SSM 7.0 SP6 HF1.
After the implementation of a text variable in PAS in order to include it in a report we have lost the access to the reports and the entry and approval settings.
These are the main steps we followed:
1.- Data model created via Cube Builder
2.- Data loaded via Entry and Approval.
3.- With that model the Scorecard and a set of reports were working as expected.
4.- After that we created a text measure directly in PAS via the following command: CREATE yearly TEXT NONKPI50_ACT 'KPI text'.
4.- Due to this creation we have lost the access to the reports in SSM UI and to the Entry and Approval settings in SSM Admin.
Could anyone please advice us in order to solve the problem?
We have realized that if we delete in PAS the text variable created everything returns to the original situation and everything works ok.
Did we create the text variable ok? Is it possible to create text variables in a model created via Cube
Builder and loaded via Entry and Approval?

this text variable is just a variable to be used in a navigator report, not to be used in SC. Sorry if I was not clear.
Robert, I will deal this probelm with the customer message team but if anybody has came up with this problem in any project please let me know how to solve it.
Anyway I will check how CONSTANT TEXT works. I will appreciate if you would let me know the result of your checkings.
